Continue to come here, as I live in town. They have an outdoor, heated seating area that is open year round, although I don't go out there myself. Just not my preference. The food is really good, almost all handmade (such as the fresh bread option.). They have a new specials board and try new things out, which are usually variations of the menu, so it's nothing too jarring. For example, I tried a breakfast bowl that had German sausage instead of sausage. No big change but still a nice addition. Seating area has been changed a bit to take out more booths and make them tables, but there are a few booths. Service is fast and friendly, and everyone is usually on top of what's going on. Kitchen is in plain view, so nothing being hidden in how they cook or what their process is. This is a great institution in Dallas, locally owned, and the owner cares about how her business serves people. One time my order got missed somehow, and not only was my server upset about it, but the owner came and told me she'd comp me that breakfast and my next one. And she did, even though I didn't remind her the next time. Seriously great place. Check it out if you're in town. The only reason it isn't franchised with lines out the door all the time is that there isn't a lot of reason to come to Dallas, Oregon. So consider it a hidden gem. :) read more

Heard but never been here until today! Pumpkin Pancakes with pumpkin butter and whip cream was wonderful! Loved the gravy also!! YUM! The cafe is adorable with its quirky little details. Service was impeccable! Made an accommodation for the pork protein on the special and no additional charge. The food was delicious! I ordered the Special waffle it was fluffy and moist. The apple compote was lightly sweet. The sub was a chicken breast grilled perfectly, The other order at our table was the Pork chop breakfast. Quaint little place, definitely a hole in the wall. I almost got lost looking for the main entrance. The parking is right off of Jefferson St. The servers there was kind and got me seated quickly. The kept my coffee topped off, and the older server lady took my order. The only reason I knocked off a star was because of how long the food took. It was about 45 minutes before I received my order and it wasn't hot; it felt like it sat out for a while. Besides that the food was delicious and cooked correctly to my specifications. I went there for lunch and had their chicken sandwich. It was very good. Chicken was nice and crispy and the bun was soft. I only gave 4 stars instead of 5 because my onion rings were a little undercooked. I took them home and put them in my air fryer. But I would definitely go back. A gem of a find. 4.5 stars but I can only give whole but don't feel the slight flaws in service and order accuracy warrants a full star downgrade. This is a place popular with locals tucked inside a renovated house that has a unique interior decor. They have tables a couple booths and half booths. Seating has been expanded to the covered patio outdoors. Overall quality and value for meals is good. If you are looking for cheap this may not be the place for you. If you are looking for a tasty meal at a fair price with good portions then give them a whirl. They adapted the Monte Cristo into a breakfast sandwich but also sell a traditional. The German sausage and eggs is very good and the crisscross cuts on the sausage gives it some eye flair. I thought I ordered a scramble but it was prepared as an omelette. I chose to have hollandaise with it. Absolutely yum. Too much so I had leftovers. Flaws in accuracy include undercooked eggs and buttered English muffin instead of dry. Both occasions the error was corrected immediately. The eggs were ordered over-medium but were barely over-easy with runny whites. As soon as we brought it to the server's attention new eggs were prepared and delivered. The last visit the cook realized they buttered the muffin in error and a new set was toasted and brought out. In both cases there was no additional charge or attitude. The staff is kind and polite. They could be a bit more attentive by checking on tables either looking to see if patrons are looking to get their attention so any issues can be swiftly resolved or circulating with coffee or water. Overall, I have never been disappointed and look forward to when a visit fits in my travel schedule as they are nearly 20 miles west of me. read more

Went out today based of the reviews. 930 am we seated right away and waitress was attentive . Order was taken and drink came out fast . The food on the other hand took 40 mins to hit the table . During our wait we noticed a guy get up behind us and walked out stating the cfs was flavorless and tough . He was giving the option to replace it and he declined . Meal was comped . Another couple behind use were complaining about their meal and the politely took it out in a box . There was a mom and kids across from us and the young man had the steak and eggs and was having to really pull hard to get a bite . Waitress said they sometimes get tough steaks and sometimes tender ones . Leaving it with a fork standing up on it and didn't finish his breakfast . My wife asked about the wait and why one of our meals were under the heat lamp so long instead of being brought to the table . Waitress stated they can stay under the lamps for a long time . Overall our visit was slow , food marginal , the staff tried to do their best but .... Seeing the amount of food not being eaten , it taken to go was disappointing . Three meals were comped including ours even tho we didn't ask for it . I left the staff 40 dollars and we left . Won't be coming back . Super disappointed. We are new to the Dallas area and decided to try take out from Taters for Lunch because some of the locals seem to rave about it. We called ahead and ordered off the menu. Here is what we ordered and how we felt about it: Breakfast #2 with sausage and over easy eggs - husband says everything was great, the portion size was a little small, but otherwise great. Classic Burger with fries - was good, no complaints. Fries are a little soft, but that is probably just because it was to go. 3 pancakes - not so great. The first pancake was perfect, a golden brown and wonderful. The other two underneath it were burnt and inedible. They had a very distinct burnt flavor. Cheese Blintzes - these were fried in a deep fryer, but it's like they were left on one side too long. The one side was burnt and had a bitter flavor, but the other side was soft and gooey, and underdone. I did call and let them know. The gentleman that answered the phone did tell me that if we brought it all back they would remake it. But honestly, I just didn't have time for that. It took about a half hour to get it to begin with, and we don't live super close to Taters and are on our lunch break, so my time is limited. My kids are around the burnt parts of the pancakes and we just threw away the cheese blintzes. I'm also not sure that the prices on the menu on here are current or up to date - there was about a $6 difference in the total from this menu and what we were charged. But it may just be old pictures. Was not a great experience :( read more

We got a 5-star breakfast here at Tater's, starting with my country fried pork chops. But the real star of the show here is the bread. My pork chops came with bread and it was really, really good and an incredible amount of food. I am a hearty breakfast guy and this is definitely my kind of place! Service was reasonably fast, maybe a tad disjointed for some reason because we ended up having about 3-4 different people serving us. But I wish I could go back! I was a tourist in Dallas and I wish we had this restaurant where I live, it would be an instant star. I'm going to say it's a treasure, I like it so much! I have no idea how anyone could give less than 5- stars for a breakfast like I experienced. It was flavorful in spite of the complaining reviews. We got served quickly. The food was obviously fresh and well prepared. The coffee cups were always full. I loved it! Heck they even had all the strawberry jams--restaurants typically run out of those (is it bad that I notice that? Whatever I'm a strawberry jam guy.) I would go here for any meal. I had been looking forward to visiting this place after being told about their food. I thought they were only open for breakfast & brunch but they are open until 9pm. We stopped by around 5pm. They serve breakfast all day. The foods tasted good and they gave large portions. I want to go back and try the cinnamon roll. They are huge!
