Great food and wonderful outdoor space green grass and I think they may have live music sometimes

The Ace is more of a sports bar than a tavern. The first time I walked in I expected it to be a dive bar in a tiny burb with mostly locals lined up on bar stools. Turned out that in addition to a cold brew (or two) the food is pretty decent here. I usually have a beer and a burger but the breakfasts are also pretty good here. Massive portions at reasonable prices. VERY noisy if there is even a small crowd inside. But overall I like the place. Staff is great and you will definitely not walk out hungry. Gaston is a tiny whistle-stop burb sort of between FG and Newberg. It's on the main drag so easy enough to find. Don't get out this way very often and surprisingly, Gaston has several good choices for watering holes and restaurants. I like the town and the people who live there so always look forward to returning. read more

What a delight. we went right outside to a picnic table and the server was hot on our tale for drink orders! The 4 of us had nice meals, burgers were great, and drinks. Really nice setting, with nice lighting and outdoor games. Indoors there is clearly a local group, so you feel like a bit of an outsider heading thru them to the restrooms, but not intimidating. nice people mostly in the bar area. Always a chill vibe. Even when busy and the bartenders are hustlers. They bust their asses to keep their customers happy. Not to mention I love that Everytime we go, we see familiar faces and I think it's awesome that everyone gets to know each other. It's just a friendly and fun place. The chef salads are the bomb. Could have a better whiskey and tequila selection but they have an amazing back patio and fire pit area that is a lot of fun and nicely done as well. Great tacos and burgers as well. read more

Had the High Roller, split it with the hubs. Two biscuits and country gravy...two chewy huge pieces of bacon, two large sausage, two ham , crispy hash browns , 3 eggs. French toast ,pancake and your choice of toast... all for a grand total of : 20$ we even had leftovers. The hubs was in the Navy and he can eat a horse... so that's says a lot. My SIL asked us to meet her and the family there on a day of wine tasting. I grew up very near by, but had never gone to Ace before. It was a curious choice of restaurant, but then she mentioned that her high school classmate owned it. Ok, we're down for it. We entered and were pleased with the big, open, clean environment. Feels new and mostly updated. Ok, so far so good! Then the food.... The husband and I decided to split the nachos. I specifically asked if they were big enough to share. Our waitress said absolutely. They were $15, so I also assumed that meant they were shareable. We received them and they had a slight sprinkling of cheese, a passing amount of ground beef and some jalapenos...etc. They were served on a standard serving plate. Not sure what I was most disappointed in...the lack of cheese on a cheese-centric dish, or the overall size of the nachos. Here we are in Gaston, and they are serving a fairly small portion for $15? Doesn't quite make sense. The rest of our family seemed to enjoy their dishes; I heard no complaints. We had a nice server, and our food was served fairly quickly. read more

Breakfast should be one of the most wonderful meals of the day,asy to prepare, and something to be proudly presented to the customers. This I can say is not the case at the Ace. Update, one year later. Went to the Ace to give it a second chance.... ordered one hamburger and one cheese burger, this with a side order of onion rings. Yep, still a Big Fat 1 star. Grim presentation, poor quality mixed with a side dish of insult to injury - over $30.00 for the meal. Drive by, don't stop, move on without any hesitation. read more

Ok, so I am recinding my previous review. They must have had a bad cook on the grill the first time I went in, becuase I have since had the burgers here, and they are acutally pretty good. People seem to like hanging out at the Ace, and the patrons all know each other. Sort of a small town version of Cheers. 25 bucks for 2 mediocre hamburgers and greasy undercooked fries... Hire a new cook? Better portion to cost? Maybe they just capitalize on the fact there isn't much around for choice? Definitely not going there for lunch ever again. read more

My parents and I got 3 bacon cheeseburgers last night and they were burnt, so we had to go back as this was a take out order. They did remake them, but we were not impressed by this turn of events. Just make sure you check your order before you leave. read more

The upgrades on the building look nice.... but their busiest night of the year/they have 5 bartenders behind the bar/1-2 bartenders outside.. THEY HAD TO SHUT THEIR BAR DOWN FOR 10 MIN TO CATCH UP!!!!!!!! This is a small bar. There was MAYBE 110 people there and they couldn't keep up? The owner/manager started whistling at customer telling them to form a line to order drinks. That's not how bars work!! IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE HEAT GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN (OR BAR). I wouldn't be posting this horrible review, but the bartenders were RUDE as hell about being packed. You can still be busy and behind without being rude to your customers!!!!!! read more

OK, this place is no plush fine dining restaurant, but the food, and prices can't be beat. After you walk in the door you will notice that it looks pretty worn down, and the language, at times, can be quite "colorful", but don't let fool you; the food is the reason that we come here. Their secret is the meat that they use. All of it comes from Carlton Meats. The 12 oz. Rib Eye (sometimes 15 !) is hand cut from large cuts of meat that they purchase from Carlton meats. For $15 you get the steak and all of the fixin's. My wife loves their cheese burger basket. $5.50 really fills you up. I really like the chicken burger. And their chunky soups are awesome and homemade. One of the local business owners swears by their shrimp salad (not listed on the menu wall); and he only orders a 1/2 order, because it is soooo large. The tap beer selection is limited to four choices, and don't even think to ask for their wine list, but they make a mean mixed drink. The owner, Mark, is a "kick". He is an ex-jockey with a wooden leg. You can spot him easily; the short guy walking around with the Greyhound drink in his hand, checking with everyone to see how their meal was read more

Fish and chips were good considering it's a tavern not located on the coast. I was pleasantly surprised. My husband ordered the BLT and the bacon arrived BLACK! It was extremely overcooked. I honestly couldn't believe they put it on his plate. Had it been me, I would've asked them to remake it. My husband is not a picky eater and opted to eat it anyway. He was surprised by how much he enjoyed it. Good stop if you're passing through and can't wait until Newberg/Mac/Forest Grove for wider variety. Prices are a little more than I'd like to pay for tavern food, however. 4 stars if prices were better. read more

New the real ace when you left the real ace from zegher you smelled like a cartoon of cigs because he wouldnt turn on his exhaust fan but he had actually a good cheeseburger and steak. Now they have good service and a good deal on beer but the food sucks and it looks like a mini primetime with dq seats. read more

Stopped here after a day on the lake. Seriously one of the best burgers I've had in my life. $9 for a cheeseburger with the normal fixings and fifty cents per add on. Where else can you add bacon for 50 cents?! A must stop if you're around the area. And if not, well worth the drive!!! One of the best burgers I've ever had!! And excellent staff! $22 tab and we left a $10 tip! And that wasn't enough for the execellent food and service! read more

The burgers and fries are good and so is the service. But if you don't enjoy very loud people who use the f word every 5 words, and general insensitive/unintelligent bar banter then stay out, its probably now always this way but why chance it. LOL If someone can explain to me why people have to talk like this in a public place I'd like to know. Last time I went in she gave me a beer in the bottle without asking if I wanted a glass with it. Longest wait I have ever had in my whole life to be served ( close to 2 hours ) , waitress was super polite and apologetic, it took so long we thought multiple times that they had forgot our order but we were assured that it was on the way , I am suspect that because we weren't locals that our order was being pushed back , we were not given any answer why it took so long , this was the first and last time I will ever go here , we should have drove for a extra hour to get to a restaurant that would have served us , we won't make this mistake again read more

Place looks nice but... if you are not a local or known to the waitresses expect a loooong wait. Pool tables meant that we had someone's a** in our face as we waited & while we were trying to eat. Acoustics were very poor as the place wasn't even half full & way too loud with random music playing intermediary. Food was mediocre and the microwave(s) were in constant use. read more

the noise is too loud and the patrons look at you oddly if you aren't from there one of their own but if you walk to the other end of town the people are great nice, friendly and its very clean and the food is awesome they make you feel right at home.So if I had to choose from the Ace Tavern or the other establishment at the other end of town sorry but I choose the other one they also have live music on weekends read more
