LISTEN. Now, it's been a minute since I've nodded to naughty language but I have no self-control when I speak about the Screamin' Chicken Diner... IT'S SO F***ING GOOD! HOLY CRAP BALLS! After a morning in the mounts visitng wineries, we were hungry. Borderline hangry, but for sure starving. A friend that was with said "I think there's a little cafe down in Gaston, let's check it out!" and we did! First, when you walk in, you're greeted warmly and they got us seated quickly. Menus were provided and then we heard the magic words... "What can I get you guys? Coffee? Water? Tea? A beer? A glass of wine?" A WHAT? Ma'am! It is 11:00 AM. Did you just offer me BEER and WINE? Yes, yes she did. And yes, yes we accepted. So let's pause. If you've not thrown back a glass of white wine with eggs, you're missing out. Seriously, rethink your life and try it. You're welcome. This is adulthood and how we survive it. We order. Annie's Delight, Scrambled-Egg Breakfast, Chicken Fried Chicken, and a 2-Egg Breakfast. When I say holy-crap-ton-of-food, know I'm not joking. We literaly ran out of table there was so much food. Now we all know that myself and my crew have a healthy appetite but good lawd havemercy... never have I ever... the food was stupid. Just supid good. Ridiculous. Each bite it got better. Burned the crap out of my mouth but the wine healed it quickly. $25 for the biggest breakfast I've ever had and a huge glass of wine. Seriously, you can't beat that with a pole. The service was awesome... the coffee that accompanied the wine and water never ran dry and was refilled to maintain being piping hot the entire visit. The ambiance is kitschy and perfect. The staff are locals who obviously take great pride in their little Cafe and they SHOULD! They have worked hard to own the pride in there little gem in the heart of Gaston. Can't wait to go back. I've swept all the brunch places in all of Portland trying to find anyone who can do a solid Chicken Fried Chicken that well... needless to say, I've failed. It's been a number of years since we have been here, seems it's always full when we stop in. So we went at 5pm Saturday before the crowds. I received one of the biggest prices of chicken I have ever even! The food is just like grandma used to make. Delicious and giant servings. By the way, always get the biscuit for a side. Lunch on a Friday at 1:00 pm and this place is busy but has plenty of seating. No outside seating is available and I wouldn't recommend for a group. It's a cozy and comfortable diner that is locally and family owned. I had the fried chicken, fries and slaw for $19.00. Choose between dark, white or mixed meat battered in a slightly sweet batter. The slightly sweet batter didn't cover all of the chicken which was disappointing but the skinless chicken was moist. The thick cut fries aren't crispy more like a baked potato texture but good. Stopped in here with the fam on the way out to the coast. It's right on the highway. The breakfast portions were huge, and the $5 kids' meals are a great deal. Their pancakes were really fluffy. The hostess also brought out crayons, which was a nice bonus. (I am still not the kind of parent who remembers to bring fidget toys for the offspring when we may have a wait...) Really big menu, I'm not sure how the one cook in the back handles everything since it is all made to order. We were lucky being the first table in that morning and we got our order in quick, but it looked like the other tables had a bit of a delay to get their food. Totally excellent! My husband got the pork chop breakfast. I got biscuits gravy sausage and eggs. I want to try the bananas foster french toast next time! Food hot, service great, prices comparable, servings generous. A hidden gem on the way from Yamhill to Forest Grove. A cozy diner with lots of chicken doodads, great ambiance. Fun little place. Clean. Nice, hard-working people. I splurged on the prime steak & eggs. Ordered and got med rare on a dinner plate by itself - huge! No lie!! Eggs, crispy hash browns, toast on a second plate! Prime steak was close to an inch think - not cardboard like so many other places! $26 is a lot for me for breakfast, but WELLl worth it! At the Screamin' Chicken, you're gonna eat well, rich and you will go home FULL and possibly with a box! Portions are heapin'. It's a small restaurant with about 10 tables and the largest one seats 6. Its decorated with... you guessed it, lots and lots of chickens! Chicken art in every size, shape, form and medium. The food is delicious. We haven't found a dish that we didnt like. Everything has been homemade and tastes like 'Nana Mirtle' is in the kitchen making it! By far, my fav is the Chicken, Chicken fried steak. It's a lightly breaded chicken breast that is fried to perfection. It's lightly breaded and super super moist. Not pounded out to span the entire plate. It was a nice thick breast coated in a crispy batter, not breadcrumb. And it was not oily.. Then its topped with a really good white gravy that is in between traditional gravy and alfredo sauce. I opted for the buttery, creamy grits that are more like polenta than southern grits. My daughter had the huckleberry pancakes and my husband had the biscuits and gravy. Both also really delicious! Staff is real nice. We met the owner today and she's a real spitfire! The older lady scoffed every time someone walked in the door the entire time we were there, including mg when we walked in. She served us and didn't say one thing to us other than what was absolutely necessary, and was so rude. I had my small purse on the table and she didn't ask me to move it or say anything at all, but glared at me and I asked "do I need to move my bag?" And she said nothing, just continued to glare at me. She should not have a job working around people or she should just retire. It was actually crazy how far she went out of her way to be rude. This is a great little diner! We stopped for lunch when we were out for a drive. The service is very friendly and doesn't rush you (the menu is extensive with breakfast and lunch served all day!). I had a bowl of chili - full of meat chunks, tomatoes, and beans. Very good! He had the French dip - also wonderful! I don't get out Gaston way very often. Most recently it was for the car show held pretty much across the street from this place. Gaston is a tiny little burb and the parking lot for this restaurant is tiny indeed. But there's plenty of parking on the main drag or on one of the side streets. I mostly go here for the abundant breakfast. The townies are working folks who are used to starting the day with a big meal and that's what you'll get here. Nothing fancy. Just good food and plenty of it at a reasonable price. I've had various menu items for lunch/dinner over the years and I've never had a bad meal here. You can't go wrong with the buffalo burger or the reuben. The waitresses are always a kick to chat with. Not the sort of wait staff you are likely to find in any of the eateries on NW 23rd. I have food sensitivities: My usual take-out order is an Angus Burger, med rare with Swiss cheese, and grilled onions & mushrooms on a GF (no potato flour ) bun with Cole slaw instead of potato fries. They ALWAYS get it right. I frequently ask for fried grits instead of any type of potato they usually get it right although Jay, the owner does it best and though I can't get GF SOUR DOUGH, potato-free garlic bread, I can Always get GF garlic toast Prime roast on the weekend. My husband likes the comfort food. If I have a craving for GF, potato free pancakes, this is my go to. The staff is efficient ( mostly family and long-standing employees ), helpful and sweet or sweetly crusty. The ambiance is small family style diner lavish in mostly customer-gifted "Chicken Memorabilia". My out of state relatives get a kick out of Jay 's T- shirts and ball caps. read more

We were out hiking around, when we found this place on Yelp, boy, are we glad we stopped in for breakfast. First of all, this is a cute diner, with maybe 8 - 10 tables & bar seating, that serves breakfast all day. Bonus points right away for that. I had the combo 2 pancakes with fresh Marion berries, applewood smoked bacon & scrambled eggs. The eggs were delicious! Probably because they have so many chicken farms around to get fresh eggs from, not overcooked at all! The pancakes w/Marion berries were so juicy, I basically didn't need syrup. I like to cut up my bacon and so I get a little sweet from the pancakes & a little salty from the bacon, there's a party going on in my tastebuds! Delicious! We must have tried it on a very bad day. I've heard great things and we were excited to hit Screamin' Chicken for breakfast on a sunny Saturday. Unfortunately, the waitress (owner?) was not having a good day and she didn't care who knew. Service was AWFUL. Like, so bad we almost walked out bad. They were not busy, maybe two other tables with a couple people the whole time we were there, but waitress was still complaining. I asked a simple question while ordering and got a scowl and she answered in a very rude tone "I don't know" without offering to ask the cook. She clearly could not care less. Food took forever and was just okay, it looks a lot better in the photos than it tasted in real life - but the food wasn't the problem. Coffees were never refilled. She never came back to see if we needed anything. Thank goodness we had cash because we would probably still be sitting there if we needed her to do anything after she dropped off the check. It took over 40 minutes to get what I'd ordered BUT the place was packed (c. 11 a.m., on a Saturday). When I was handed my plate of Denver Omelette, I was blown away. The Omelette was huge and the huge pile of Hash Browns were perfectly crispy as I had ordered them. The Omelette also had many chucks of ham that were loose and I considered them extra. It was delicious. To my amazement, I ate the whole thing including the sprig of parsley and wedge of orange. I hadn't had this dish since quite a while before my wife died last February. We love this homey place! Everyone who works at Screamin' Chicken is friendly and efficient. The food is unfailingly delicious. Today it was corned beef day! I had the Reuben: grilled to crispy perfection with the exact right portion of beef to Swiss to sauerkraut. No soggy bread here! Stan did the corned beef hash and eggs. Quite possibly the best cbh we have ever had (heck yeah, he had to share!) chunks of corned beef, mellow potato pieces, peppers and onions!
