OMG!!!! We live in Seattle and popped in here on a whim after staying over at the McMenamins grand lodge. Let me tell ya, we were NOT disappointed and I would drive out to forest grove again to eat their delicious Chicken fried steak (CFS). Diamond in the Rough brunch spot!!! Hands down one of the best places I've had for breakfast and I've tried allll over the PNW. Food - fantastic! Yummy. Classic but simple. We ate the CFS, which was soo good we order another one to go! Breakfast burrito which came with TWO huge burritos and tasty too. Our friends had the omelette, shared it and had plenty of leftovers too. Service - the staff were the sweetest, very friendly and attentive. Price - a steal for all the food you are getting and the taste too! Random little restaurant in a Safeway parking lot. We just moved to Cornelius and decided to give this local spot a try. The service was good, nice servers and you can tell they have a connection with the community. The food is mediocre at best. My wife ordered a scramble and the bacon was undercooked and overcooked. My son ordered an omelette that had an excessive amount of cheese and hash browns over cooked and bland. I ordered steak and eggs breakfast. I ordered my eggs over medium but got over hard and my "ribeye" felt like chuck roast meet cooked on a flat iron and was not medium, it was more on rare side. To top it all off the home made biscuits are more like very dry bland corn bread. Ambiance is great and give the feel of a small mom and pop diner, just needs some major TLC in the kitchen. read more

Summary: Excellent service, decent food, phenomenal allergy accomodations. The atmosphere in here feels very "contemporary farmhouse." Modern gray decor mixed with black and rubbed bronze metals. Lots of kitschy signs and paintings on the walls. The server and staff behind the counter were all super friendly and accommodating. I definitely got the feeling that they could identify regulars by name. My husband had the chicken fried steak with sausage gravy, eggs over easy, and hash browns. The chicken fried steak was very thick but still tasty. He pronounced the whole thing great and cleaned his plate. When I asked if their grits were fork (thick) grits or spoon (watery) grits, they said they could make them however I wanted. Sadly for me, they came out absolutely *drenched* in butter. More grits for the kids, who enthusiastically gobbled them up. They then made a whole new bowl of grits for me and they were delicious! Just enough firmness to give texture, but still cooked enough to be creamy and thick. I had the Belgian Waffle with bacon and egg whites. Always a good sign when a restaurant will do egg whites. The waitress asked if I wanted the bacon regular or crispy. I asked for as crispy as they could get it and they definitely delivered! The waffle was rather small, so if you're hungry, get two. The kids had the hot cakes with sausage and the kids chicken strips with fries. The sausage had a nice crisp skin with a sage flavor and a bit of spice on back end. The chicken strips were huge and the fries were excellent. Some of the fried foods did appear to be pre-made, such as the chicken fried steak, fries, and chicken strips. And the pancakes and waffles had a slightly spongy texture that felt like the batter might be over mixed. It would have been better with a little ground sausage and some salt and pepper. The potatoes tasted like they had been sitting in a bin for a while and reheated in the microwave. They had a slight rubbery texture. The chicken fried steak was clearly frozen and flash fried. The sourdough toast was typical sourdough. Nothing special. Eggs, Bacon and hashbrowns with biscuit. Eggs and bacon were cooked right. The hashbrowns needed more grille time. Get some color on the potatoes. The biscuit was HUGE! HUGE....But, it tasted like flour. We had to put a lot of butter and honey or jam on it just to make it edible. They could have done something with these to make them stand out like a rosemary or herby type biscuit to make it really pop. Staff was friendly and the place was a typical breakfast diner. Lots of lighting and typical diner decorations. The place was pretty packed when we arrived. We waited about 15 minutes. read more

Staff was courteous and friendly, the place is clean, and the food was really good! The biscuits were sort of hush puppy style, and the gravy was phenomenal!!! The wait staff was super friendly, we had prompt service with a smile, and the food was out super quick. All this while being very reasonably priced. The service was fine. The place is cute. But the food...the bacon is the only thing that saved it from being a one star. The bacon was good. The egg was oily. Not sure how an over-medium egg can be icky but it was. It was slippery with oil. Not bacon grease or griddle oil - it was like it was simmered in an inch of cooking oil. And the "Belgium" waffle was a toaster Eggo with a scoop of faux-butter on it. I had hope cause the place is old-towny and filled with regulars. My mom is in a care facility out west so we're on constant lookout for breakfast places to eat prior to visiting her. This was today's attempt. It wasn't fancy but it was clean. Think small town diner with locals. People serving us were nice. When Princess wasn't sure about ordering biscuits and gravy the sweet woman brought us gravy in a cup with a spoon for her to try. She noted it was homemade and we could get it just white without pork sausage as well. Princess liked it, with the sausage. I tasted it and it was surprisingly well seasoned and tasty. Unfortunately the "biscuits" were weird. Spongy squares baked in a casserole dish they reminded me of beer bread in texture. Too bad because that yummy gravy deserved better. My denver omelette and hash browns were fine, neither bad nor stupendous. Same for hubbys pancakes and scrambled eggs. Coffee was a bit watery but passable. I don't like their puffy blobs of margerine for toast and pancakes but prefer foil wrapped butter pats. They do have sugar in a pour cannister and cream in little pitchers. That's cool.Princess liked her chocolate milk and the bacon was ordered crispy and came that way. I don't know that I'd go out of my way to return but its an ok place to grab an egg and some toast. read more
