When we went in to the restaurant the vibes were great, servers instantly sat us down and complimented us. The experience was 5 stars until they gave us water and there was LIPSTICK on the cup. We replaced it and continued ordering food, and when we got the food it looked great, but the taste was honestly disappointing, the fruits were way too bitter, and the coffee was mediocre. We came here for the first time ever this morning, waiter was super sweet and sat us as soon as possible! Food came out super quick and it was delicious! Our coffee was hot and fresh, our breakfast was incredibly well seasoned. Personally I'm not a breakfast person, my partner is and today, I was very impressed and genuinely enjoyed having breakfast today! I ordered their country fried chicken platter and my partner ordered pancakes and he said it was the closest we can get some homemade pancakes! I drove in excess of 40 miles this morning for breakfast at Tom's and have no regrets. Wouldn't want to make the drive everyday, but really enjoyed breakfast here. The environment is very warm and welcoming. Staff members were friendly. Our server, Laila, went above and beyond to provide us with an excellent experience. She kept my coffee full, and came by at perfect intervals to ensure we had all that we needed. She also made excellent recommendations from the menu. I had the Dutch German pancake, a.k.a. the Dutch baby, and it was everything I had hoped it would be. A very eggy treat with a lovely, crispy finish. Once I added butter, lemon juice from fresh wedges, and powdered sugar, it was perfection. My dining companion had the carb free breakfast with sausage and bacon, but she added onions, bell peppers, and broccoli ($1.25 each) to create what she described as "the perfect omelette", and added that her bacon was prepared delightfully. I am a coffee snob, so often do not order coffee from cafés and such, but went ahead and gave them a try having read a review about their coffee being good. It is. It's very good. Restroom was as clean and well-stocked as it could be. Pulling into the parking lot, you would expect this to be an amazing local treasure. I hesitate to write negative reviews about any business because I know it may affect their patronage, but I would be doing a disservice to fellow yelpers if I didn't write my truth. I came here with my partner as part of their welcome to Beaverton promotion which gave us $20 off our bill (very much appreciated) and that got us to try a place that we would normally not bother with. Even though there were large groups of people waiting for tables, the turnover was pretty fast and we were seated within 5 minutes. I ordered medium rare steak and over easy eggs with hash. The entire dish was disappointing as the steak looked and tasted like a quickly charred boiled steak. Absolutely no seasoning on anything, not the eggs, not the hash, not the steak. I had to drench my entire meal in A1 sauce and salt and pepper to get any flavour out of it. I was hoping the coffee would at least be a redeeming quality but for $3.50 for a poured pot that tasted like day old watered down coffee, it was another disappointment. My partner ordered the blueberry crepes which were just ok but it tastes like they use mass produced buckets of sugared preserved fruit instead of making fresh blueberry toppings. All in all, I could have made the same food for cheaper at home that tasted 5x better. I will say that the staff are super friendly and the service was quick which is why it's not a 1 star. Finished our entire meal and I forgot to take pictures beforehand because it was so good and we were so hungry. We went on a saturday morning at 10 and it took about 10 minutes to get our seat. I got the crepes with fresh strawberries and whipped cream and it was good. and my sister got the corned beef hash which is a winner. Went there yesturday morning. I had a small stack of pancakes. Recieved 3 pancakes with 1 small syrup. I asked for more syrup and you would of thought i asked for a free.meal. the look I got from the waitress. She never gave me thebsyrup until I had to trackball down and ask for it. She then arrived with my syrup and kind of threw it on the table. Now I love pancakes but these did not taste good at all, and it's a pancake house! The syrup did not taste good and the pancakes didn't taste good either. I had a few bites and was done. After we left, my coworker asked why I didn't eat the pancakes and I must not have been hungry. I told him I love pancakes but those were not great and I have had better. I don't know what kind of syrup they use, it was a dark syrup that lacked taste. Sorry Tom. Big mixed feelings about this place. It is cute, welcoming, nicely located, but the service and food quality is so highly inconsistent, that the last two times I had to either send the food back or complain about the service (which I don't to lightly). On the right day, with the right waiter, you can have a great time at Tom's. On an off day, you will regret having spent the higher cost this place has compared to other brunch places. It is very nice that they offer gluten-free pancakes, but they are ultimately not that great. Some of their omelet are pretty good. Their steak-based option is an absolute no. Their coffee is good! (But getting a refill will often require chasing down their staff.) Overall a good option. But I would not say great! read more

I met my Son here at 7:30 AM a few days and Tom's was already hopping with a largely blue collar crowd and a mostly full parking lot. I chose it because it was close to the Hyatt House and David's apartment, and had a cool and distinct "Road Food" Vibe. Tom's also has lots of room, so getting seated was no problem. Service was fast and efficient throughout our stay. I had 2 poached eggs, sausage, and pancakes. All were delicious, although I only got through half of the 3 pancake stack. My Son went for the toast for his well-received combination, which perhaps was more manageable. Tom's Pancake House is open daily from 6 AM - 8 PM, and also for to-go orders, curbside service, and delivery. There's a separate Lunch/Dinner menu, but I'd be tempted to do breakfast here anytime. Stoped in early, the front of the house staff were friendly. I ordered the country fried steak with hash browns and eggs over easy, as well as black coffee. The eggs came out perfectly cooked. The hash browns, while out of a box, were nicely browned with just the right amount of crispiness. They lacked seasoning but were still good. The country fried steak came out either a golden crust. The steak was a real hand pounded and hand breaded steak. The breading had the addition of semolina or fine corn meal giving it some additional texture. There was also a hint of onion and garlic powder in the breading, which was well seasoned as well. The gravy was silky smooth and flavorsome. I'll admit that at first I was disappointed with the quantity of gravy compared to the generous size of the steak. Then I found that most of the gravy was put down on the plate first, then the steak - cleaver! All in all a very good value and terrific meal. read more

Tom's Pancake House is your typical diner with some of the weirdest (yet coolest) artwork on the walls. This place always looks packed and busy but we were seated rather quickly. The food was just okay (pancakes were dry but the hash browns were actually pretty good). Despite the mediocrity of the food, the customer service was really great. Our server was friendly and so on top of it. Since someone else took our drink order, our real server double-checked what drinks we ordered so she knew what drinks she had to refill. She even helped with our food order to make sure we weren't going to be overcharged. Stuff like that really goes a long way with me so I'm grateful she was extremely helpful. Like a spiritual riddle straight out of their "Jesus books for sale" corner, you just have to have "faith" that the math makes sense. Spoiler: it doesn't. They even have a whole section of Jesus books for sale, but apparently the "Thou shalt not lie" part didn't make it into the business model. And if you're into religious merch and novelty beans, you'll love their front counter selection -- just don't expect the coupons to jump the same way. This is a popular place but don't be put off by the line. The wait was short (they predicted 15 minutes and it was 7 minutes). The service never faltered. The atmosphere is pure diner--bustling, productive, and a bit loud. It's clean and well organized and maintained. I liked the vibe. The food was the only stumble. It was just okay. The coffee was bitter and the omelette was blah. The pancakes were fluffy but lacked flavor. We didn't finish our food (there was a lot of it, but it wasn't tasty). On a recently visit to Portland My son suggested Tom's Pancake House. On a Saturday morning it was busy but they got us in rather quickly. Our server was really nice and was sweet towards our outside 1 month old granddaughter. Our food was really good, I had the Spanish omelette that came with pancakes. This was a lot of food and I almost finished it all. Coffee was excellent and our server left is a pot for the table so at no point was I worried about getting my cup refilled. The prices were reasonable $19 a person and that was including tip. My new granddaughter will keep us coming back to Portland and our pleasant experience will bring us back to Toms Pancake House. read more

We placed an order through a delivery app for pickup. The food was "ready" as per the app, but we ended up having to wait about 40 minutes after the pickup time for our food. The employees were apologetic, but it was still a bummer. Some of the order was wrong/missing, most of it was bland. Chicken was not crispy (probably because it sat for so long, I don't know.) But for the price, I wasn't too upset about the taste- just the wrong or missing items & having to wait so long that it wasn't even breakfast time anymore. The only wow-worthy food was the pancakes. Tom's has been a landmark restaurant for years. It's our go-to for breakfast and lunch. When entering the parking lot one can see how popular it is. Don't be discouraged if the parking lot is almost full. There are more seats open in the restaurant. Service is prompt and friendly. The food is always excellent with big portions. The Old Fashioned burger at lunch is, in my opinion, the best burger in town. read more

I generally never write reviews after only having one dish, but this was so good that 8 hours later, I'm still telling people on Instagram about it. I ordered the Dutch Baby pancake, which was the most amazing, and probably best pancake I've ever had in my entire life. Oven baked to perfection, I had it with powdered sugar and a generous dose of fresh lemon juice. Unfortunately, they didn't have any real maple syrup, and I've never really liked fake syrup. Good decision, because it was SO good with just those too condiments, that I didn't offer my boss a single bite. Nah. Screw that. This was MINE, and MINE ALONE. You never forget your first kiss.... or at least your first GOOD kiss. This was the first pancake that kissed back, and I look forward to many more visits to revisit that first pancake kiss. While the service is friendly it can be hard to get anyone's attention for more water or coffee. The quality of food is hit or miss. During consecutive visits I ordered the Minced Ham and Scrambled Eggs. The first time was good scrambled eggs with ok pancakes. The second time the "scrambled eggs " were more like fried eggs that had been chopped up - dry, hard, tasteless overcooked eggs scraped off the grill. I couldn't eat them. It spoils a meal with friends when the meal is inedible whether you complain (to a missing server) or suffer in silence. Very good visit to Tom's as usual. The server Ceci, was again quite friendly, efficient, and timely. I especially want to comment that Angel, the server assistant, was excellent. He brought the water, initial cup of coffee, and refills and different jam options. The ham and cheese omelet was terrific also, and the biscuits were a perfect accompaniment. The only two negatives in the experience was the initial seating by the hostess who has zero personality, and just placed the menus down on the table ahead of us. Also, the hash browns were not evenly cooked. The bottom of the potatoes were over done and they needed to be cut by a knife. My friends, my brother and I went to Tom's Pancake House after work, and unfortunately the experience was very disappointing, especially given how busy and popular the restaurant was. After we were seated, our server (a blonde older woman with curly hair, about 5'5 I believe her name started with an "L" similar to the name Leila ) took my brother's order. He asked for the fresh strawberry waffles , and she responded that they were not available because strawberries were not in season, but that strawberry jam was an option. My brother acknowledged this and began to order the strawberry waffles with jam, but before he could finish, the server cut him off in an elevated and rude tone, saying loudly, "we don't have fresh strawberries? They are not in season" she just started going off after that. She said this so loudly that people at nearby tables stopped eating and looked at us. The server continued taking the rest of our table's orders while I went to ask the a host for another server. The host brought the manager over, and I explained how disrespectful and embarrassing the interaction had been. The manager then spoke with the server a few steps away, but within earshot of us, where the server complained about us and continued to argue about my brother ordering the strawberry waffles . The manager ultimately took over serving our table. Later, the server returned to give an apology, but it felt very defensive and insincere, as she continued to complain about the order while apologizing. Throughout the entire interaction, she had a noticeable attitude that made us uncomfortable and unwelcome. I understand that the restaurant was very busy, but that does not excuse rude or humiliating behavior toward customers. Unfortunately, this experience left a negative impression of Tom's Pancake House, and it made what should have been a simple family meal very stressful. read more

My friend and I decided to try this place for the first time, and unfortunately, it ended up being a very ...uncomfortable experience. When we were seated, we ordered quickly, but a few minutes later, I realized I had made a mistake with my order. I'd assumed the "potato pancakes" were more like latkes (I come from a Jewish background), but when I looked online, I saw they were literal pancakes with sliced potato inside. To avoid sending back food after it arrived, we flagged down our server (I believe her name was Roxy?) and asked to change the order. Roxy told us flat-out, "No," explaining the food was almost done and couldn't be changed. She seemed annoyed from the start, using a hostile tone and saying, "We don't do that here." We asked if the kitchen could serve the dish to someone else or give it to staff, but she refused. My friend clarified, "So we'll have to pay for something she won't eat?" and Roxy said, "Yes, but you can order something else on top of it." When we asked to speak to the manager, she said she'd get the owner, then walked off and whispered to a coworker as she went. A few minutes later, the owner came out holding the food we'd tried to cancel. He insisted I try the potato pancakes, claiming they were the restaurant's "famous recipe," and hovered while I tasted them, which made both of us very uncomfortable. He kept explaining how I could eat them and even asked, "What do you want me to do, throw it away?" which felt unnecessary and dismissive. I already knew I didn't want the dish, so forcing me to try it wasted the food anyway. When he asked, "What did you think you were getting?" I explained that it was my mistake, but we had tried to correct it before the food came out. As expected, I didn't like the dish, and the server eventually returned with the menu to take a new order. By that point, my friend was so uncomfortable that we decided to pack everything to go. While packing up, my family (in california) called me about the current wildfires, so I stepped outside to take the call. While I was gone, the owner approached my friend and asked, "Oh no, did you say something that made her want to leave?" This comment was SO unprofessional and inappropriate, especially given the situation. To top it off, as we were leaving, the owner started complimenting my outfit, which felt like an awkward attempt at damage control. Overall, the entire experience was strange and unwelcoming. I understand that the initial mistake was mine, but we tried to handle it politely and early on. Instead of being accommodating, the staff made us feel uncomfortable at every turn. To their credit I guess they did take the meal we did not eat off our bill....but I wouldn't come back here again, and I wanted to share this for anyone else considering trying the place. I just had to write a review (which I rarely do) because the disparity in Yelp reviews just leaves me puzzled. I've been having breakfast at Tom's for something like 15 years, sometimes 2 or 3 times a week. I've never had a meal that wasn't superior, and rarely had one that wasn't stellar. The service, whether at table or counter, has always been top notch - even when every seat has been filled with folks waiting in line. In my humble opinion, the three very best breakfast restaurants in Oregon are (in no particular order): Tom's in Beaverton, Banning's in Tigard, and the Original Pancake House (either one) in Salem. JSYK, I'm 81 and have lived in the Willamette Valley all but 2 years of my life, so I think I may have some perspective. read more

Tried this place for brunch. It's one of the few places who have freshly squeezed orange juice. I really love the food there but I am disappointed with the service.
