The ambiance is another huge plus-the 50s diner aesthetic is executed perfectly. The Highlights: Friendly, professional service and a truly cool atmosphere. The Feedback: My first meal was a bit of a mixed bag. The chicken fried steak (and my wife's French toast) lacked flavor, and the potatoes arrived over-charred to the point of half of it being inedible. That said, the team was clearly working through some staffing challenges (as noted by a sign on the door), so I don't think this visit represented their best work. I forgot to take a picture.....I was enjoying the food too much! First of all, location. If you are coming from the east, The Diner is behind all the other buildings. We were a party of five so we had a wait of about 15 minutes when we were all there at 11. That is my only "complaint". Once we were seated we were greeted with the nicest server! She was fantastic! We were doing brunch and the table got two mimosas, two bloody Mary's and one screwdriver. Drinks were great!! Very well made, and very affordable! Four out of the five of us got a hash. They were accommodating for a request for no mushrooms and the food was fresh and fast. I had the diner omelette, add spinach, with a pancake and the potatoes-----Amazing. Food was fresh and tasted like it was made with love. The restaurant didn't feel crowded, even though it was busy, the chairs were super comfortable. I wanted to love this place so very much. I'm in love with their mission to give proceeds to Meals on Wheels. The place was clean, our waiter was attentive & friendly. The fries were pretty good but the hamburger (Western BBQ) was by far the worst burger I've ever had. I'd just come from a medical procedure that requires fasting so I hadn't eaten in over 28 hours so I was famished. Anything would have been delicious, but both the bacon & the smashed burger patties were so over cooked that not only were they dry, but had that bitter burnt flavor. The onion rings on the burger were good (I ate them separately). After 2 bites I decided to take the burger home to see if adding more of my own BBQ sauce would help, but it didn't, I'm afraid. The food was great but never mind the review of the food. This place is amazingly well maintained and manicured inside considering that they have been open since 2019. It still looks new. I visited once before for brunch years ago and decided to give it another try again over the weekend. It was a little busy when I arrived and it took a few minutes to be seated. Cute and small diner, very clean. I had to wait a bit for the waitress to come take my order. The items ordered was the French toast and also the chicken pasta. The pasta was good. Very creamy and not bland but not overpowering. The French toast was not that impressive. Thick but not crispy. It tasted like plain toast and the powdered sugar and maple syrup barely helped. I do love that some of their proceeds go to meals on wheels so I will definitely come by to try other items. Maybe I'll have better luck next time around. read more

This was our first visit to The Diner Vancouver. I was surprised that the proceeds go to support Meals on Wheels and they are dedicated to making sure seniors don't go hungry and have social needs met at the restaurant as well. Even if they didn't have that goodness going for them I would highly recommend them! The food was generous and delicious. My husband and I both got veggie omelettes. He added mushrooms and spinach to his. I had mine regular and loved it. Big generous chunks of onion, bell pepper and tomato. I opted for an "cream biscuit" with mine ($1.50 extra) and it was worth it! It tasted homemade-in a good way. I also liked the "country potatoes" that came with our eggs. They were thinly sliced in rounds with a hint of garlic. Sooooo yummy and a nice change from hash browns or other potato options at breakfast spots. Come give this place a try! My dining companion had biscuits and gravy, which were okay but I've had better. They offer country gravy or bacon gravy; we sampled the country but perhaps the bacon is the way to go. Next time. How to describe Diner Vancouver?...cozy....definitely cozy. The restaurant is tucked away into a little cove off Mill Plain. It is adorably 50s retro-modern with comfortable seating and a decidedly unrushed, chill vibe. The staff members are genuinely pleasant and helpful. Our dishes were freshly prepared. I had my usual sweet/salty combo: pancake with a side of bacon. Hub had the breakfast platter. Pluses: fluffy eggs and pancakes, yummy pepper bacon, amazing Zenner's sausage, and tasty coffee. Minor minuses: margarine (not butter), sugar for the coffee is not cane sugar and made the coffee taste odd, and the pancake syrup lacked flavor. Again, these are just quibbles. Overall, we had a lovely meal at Diner Vancouver. Their mission is in giving to the senior community. All profits, tips, and donations go to the Meals on Wheels program. They provide fair wages and benefits for their employees. During this insane time, in which we are currently living, Diner Vancouver is a shining beacon of how we can live a better life through cooperation and generosity. We will certainly be back for another great dining experience and continue to donate to and fully support their benevolent work. read more

Service was good, they were busy but we got seated immediately and didn't have to wait long to place our order. I got the breakfast sandwich and asked for my potatoes extra crispy, which they were not. Very weird form of breakfast potatoes too, they were sliced instead of diced or shedded. I asked for the egg over medium, and it was over hard. However!!! Very generous slice of ham, the bacon was deliciously crispy, and the bacon jam was incredible and the sandwich was toasted up to perfection. I'm going to start off with a three hoping this visit was a fluke. $13 only gets you bread, eggs and potatoes. Closer to $20 if you crave meat. If you upgrade that bread choice to French toast they only give you one piece and there's an up charge. We were seated very efficiently by a host and served by two people. The lady that took our order and brought the food looked like she'd rather be anywhere but there. I get it but it's not the vibe you want on first impression. We had to ask someone else for a refill and the lady who did that was awesome. She got us the bill, helped me find my credit card that I'd dropped and even offered one last soda to take with us. Your experience may vary based on which server you get. It's pricey eating out anywhere so this place isn't an exception by any stretch of the imagination. We decided to check this place out because we were looking for diner food. Upon entering the place I was happy to see how clean it was. Very nicely decorated and very clean. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. You don't really get just one waiter (whoever is available is who checked in on us). My group got pancakes (pretty good), the breakfast sandwich (not a fan of the bacon jam), the breakfast burger (good), Mac and cheese (heavy on the garlic or something), and a piece of pie (good). I loved the look and feel of the place and the prices run you about $10-$15 per person. They don't encourage tipping but do accept donations for Meals on Wheels on the check. I think what they are doing is great but I hope the staff gets paid better than minimum wage. read more

The menu is not real expansive, but they have the basics and a little more. The service was excellent, and the place is very comfortable. I don't drink coffee so I can't really tell you about that. The food arrived in a timely manner, and it looked quite good. I ordered The Main, two eggs, breakfast potatoes and choice of bread, I chose the pancake. The eggs were cooked perfectly, and the pancake was quite tasty. My complaint, and the reason they lost stars, was the potatoes were cold in the middle and could have used some more seasoning. When you walk in you will be greeted not only by A friendly waiter but also by a freshly designed diner-style ambiance. After we have been seated we got the menu and you have to take your time cause they combine old-style dinner classics with almost new age menu options. It was really hard for us to decide which items we wanna try first (cause spoiler alert: we will be back) So we ended up with the avocado toast with a sunny side up eggs and the classic veggie burger which isn't classic because it is made out of the plant-based beyond meat burger. We also had their strawberry Mimosa and a slice of peanut butter pie. I tell you all was so delicious the veggie burger contained also avocado spread fresh onions and a little delicious sauce on top of it to bring it all together. The avocado toast was just that avocado spices and toast you don't need much more if it's made fresh! The pie was delicious not too sweet just the right amount the only thing I was missing was a little bit of real whipped cream. That is all combined with a very reasonable price and so we left as a happy customer who will come back to this place for sure, even when it is a bit of a drive for us from Portland.
