After wine tasting from the Carlton, Yamhill, and the Gaston area, and being semi-stuffed. We wanted to eat a bit more here at Bites. Located in the downtown Forest Grove area, close to Pacific University. Seems like a local hangout, and now issues finding parking, as we've always found street parking in front of the place. As we entered, it wasn't very busy, and no one greeted us at the entrance. But no big deal really, as the waitress (possibility manager) sat us at a table close to the kitchen. Service was pleasant and courteous, and on-point with the water refills. The dining area was pretty large and clean. I can only imagine, pre-pandemic, how popular this place would have been. Second time here, unfortunately no a/c to cool the place down. The guy serving us busted his arse to keep the place open for business. We had small samples bites and wanted to leave. $11 Korean BBQ Boneless Wings were glazed up good and not too hot in my opinion. However, the menu offers a lot to choose from, and the pricing is reasonable. Thus far I have not been upset with any of the dishes I've ordered. Would I come back? Yes, it's still a decent spot to hang out at, so long as there's good air flow and nice weather outside. read more

So a few things to say here. Got here around 12:30 on a Thursday, expected them to be at least slightly busy. No one inside at all except two older ladies who had just arrived. There was one worker there seating them and us. It seemed like there was another person there who disappeared almost immediately. The person working told us he was actually a cook, who had been left there by himself- and he wasn't sure about waiting on tables, but would his best. We ordered quickly, and he went back and started cooking. We had the Korean boneless chicken wings, chicken tacos, and my wife had a burger. The wings were fantastic. Literally perfect. I could eat a couple of orders. Perfect balance of heat and sweet. My chicken tacos were also perfect. Loved them. The Chipotle sauce was a great complement to them. The kimchi fries stole the show. I'd go back just to get then and the wings. My wife liked her burger too. I didn't try it, although it looked good. So- the weird thing is nobody else was working. 3 or 4 more tables arrived as we were finishing, same guy doing everything. Props to him for being a hard worker and a great cook. Stopped by here for a quick bite during the FG wine walk. I'm not sure how to categorize the food, but it seems to be a bit of asian fusion. I had the korean bbq chicken tacos and found them to be very tasty (although a bit sticky when the meat inevitably fell out.) While I was satisfied as I wasn't too hungry, I would have appreciated 3 tacos instead of 2. Another in our party had the breakfast tacos for brunch. Enjoyed them, but also wished for 3. DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT! I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant and came in hungry, hoping for a good experience. Unfortunately, it was disappointing from start to finish. The menu felt all over the place, so I went with a Santa Fe salad thinking it was a safe choice. Sadly, it was anything but. I genuinely tried to enjoy it--diced the avocado, mixed it thoroughly--but the taste was off, and it just wasn't good. When the owner asked how everything was, I was honest and explained I didn't want to eat the salad. I had taken only a few bites, and more than half of it was untouched on the plate. Instead of handling it with any kind of customer care, she got defensive and insisted no one had ever complained before--basically implying the issue was with me. I was respectful and made it clear I wasn't trying to be rude; I just didn't want to pay for something I couldn't eat. Rather than showing understanding, she insisted I still had to pay because she "served me" and said it was my personal issue. I've never had a restaurant argue with me or make me feel like I was wrong for speaking up about a meal I didn't enjoy. The lack of accountability and the way the situation was handled left a really bad taste--worse than the food itself. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was unacceptable. DISCLAIMER: LOCAL FOOD EXPERT In the perfect spot in downtown Forest Grove, perfect distance from everything and really great atmosphere. Wow. I was impressed with the outside and inside in it's appearance. Looking at the menu, I noticed the steep prices. 15+ for average burgers. Oh, and it doesn't come with a side. The side is 4 extra dollars. "Ok," I'm thinking.... "the food must be great then, very gourmet," was I wrong.... I decided on the chicken sandwich for 12 dollars and decided to add the tots for an extra 4 dollars. I told the waiter to add cheese, an extra 75 cents. My food came and they put the cheese on my tots instead of my sandwich. A slice of cheddar melted over the top of the tots. I tried my cheese-less sandwich and it was indistinguishable from a Mcchicken. A good fried chicken sandwich is crispy. This was soft. and soggy. If you look at the picture, you can see the patty and you can probably recognize it as a pre-made frozen chicken patty. I will give them some credit as they didn't charge me for the sandwich, though being retroactive in service in not sustainable. Baffles me how the place was busy. read more

We went here pre-tasting at SakeOne. It was located less than 5 minutes away from there so it worked out perfectly. We were meeting a friend here, and she was very late. Our server was very patient as we waited for our friend. We ended up ordering the Mozzarella Egg Rolls while we waited and didn't tell our late friend we did so. They were rather on the smaller side, so it maybe wouldn't have been enough for 3 anyways, even though it came with 3. I had the Avocado Tacos, what's not to like about that. A cute spot along the main drag in historic Forest Grove. They have a couple of tables outside along with plenty of indoor seating. When we arrived, no one was there. We grabbed an outside table. My friend and I ordered Kalbi tacos and a Southwest salad to share. Our food arrived pretty quick. The tacos were served 2 to an order, we didn't get sides. They were good sized. We were starved, so gobbled them right up. Nothing stood out as super flavorful, but they weren't bad. The Southwest salad was supposed to have avocado (the picture showed a good portion) but it had none. The "grilled chicken" reminded us of what you'd find in a convenience store salad. We've frequented this place twice in the 5 years we've lived in Forest Grove (that should tell you it isn't a bright spot to score some food). We gave it a shot, again, to our misfortune. It was not good. Bland. Subpar. We ordered two bowls of Tonkotsu ramen. Pretty sure they gave us the butter shoyu since it was creamy white colored and tasted like nothing except garlic. I know real Tonkotsu is thick, rich, creamy and full bodied. This wasn't it. We picked up the order so we were unable to ask for a remake. The chasu was cut thick, the egg was cold and jammy but not marinated well, we found large pieces of garlic and ginger (knobby with the skin) in our bowls. There was no green onion. The "fresh" noodles are laughable. Not chewy as fresh should be. I could have made better noodles from a pack of top ramen. Needless to say we ate the meat and egg and left most, if not all, the noodles and broth in our bowls. What a waste! Only silver lining- the broth was wicked hot. That's it. Utterly disappointed. Will not return. I wish Bamen Ramen was still alive and well, they had a great option for ramen in this area. read more

Perhaps it was just a bad night but last night this wonderful place on Main Street Forest Grove was no longer an example of a mix in delivering a cultural fusion of food experiences. All four meals we ordered were pretty bad and not the usual quality or selection of options. We ordered salads, pasta and the chicken donburi. The menu was mostly burgers mixed with everything else. Nothing wrong with a large burger menu but a miss on the balance of the fusion side of things beyond tacos. So I hope this was just an unfortunate miscue as we know that the restaurant business is hard enough during this period of time but was significantly thumbs down which saddens us. So we hope this place returns to its fusion roots and not another burger bar. read more

This is a great Asian fusion restaurant. There are a lot of dishes with kimchi on the side, there seems to be a heavy Korean influence on the menu. We were seated as soon as we came in, and the drinks came out fast. The food seemed to take a while, but we were there at prime dinner time. A note about the kimchi, it was spicy but it also had a really food flavor to it which some kimchi lacks. We ordered the dumplings as an appetizer and they were gone within minutes, they're so good. I ordered the Kai Dow with chicken. The chicken tasted like it had been marinated for a while, and it was really tasty. My husband had a dish with kimchi and noodles. He can't remember the name and it's not on the menu online- maybe it's something new? Anyway, this is a great spot for some awesome Asian inspired food. Definitely worth checking it out. I think a group could come in and order a bunch of appetizers and eat a great dinner that way. read more

And talk about expensive!?!, for $18.95 + $4.00 I got was some smelly, old Salmon (4 little 1" chunks), slapped onto a bun (at least it was brioche) with barely any sauce with tasteless onion and tomato (the lettuce was just fine, thank you). And for that extra $4.00 I got to eat tater tots that seemed to have been fried in last month's (year?) oil. Sigh. Their menu is so enticing and I was looking to go back for more but I get this feeling it'll be at least another four years before we're back. Unless I forget. read more

We wanted to grab dinner out before doing lots of holiday cooking the next few days, originally we went to food carts in Hillsboro but they were all closed but one. We decided to head over to Bites instead and we were super glad we did! There was one young lady working the restaurant and making drinks and she did such a good job! She checked in frequently and made outstanding drinks! The food was all great, we enjoyed our meal very much. We shared the garlic Parmesan green beans which had a lot of flavor and were crisp and nicely battered, I had the beer battered salmon and my husband had the salmon tacos. A really solid place to get quality food. The Santa Fe bowl is packed full of flavor and something I would highly recommend. They really stepped up their game during the COVID pandemic but I think are under new ownership since then. We've ordered from them recently and still really enjoy the food so the new owner is still producing good food. My only complaint is I feel the food is a couple of dollars too expensive but then again I think a lot of food lately is too expensive (we're all looking at you Subway and your mediocre foot longs that cost $12!). A salad for $16? Sides are $7-10? Price doesn't fit the area for lunch. These are more dinner prices. 4 - Food - kalbi tacos are good, tempura green beans are good, tots are good. Let me just start by saying that the food is great here! This was the first time coming here and the food did not disappoint! The Kickin Cauliflower! It was not what I expected! It tasted and looked like orange chicken! We also got the Stuffed Jalapeños which was super creamy and the batter was tempura so it was extra crunchy! For entrees, I got the Spicy Ramen (which had a good amount of heat!) you wouldn't really know just by looking at it but personally I thought there was way too many bamboo shoots in there...but the pork was super decadent! My fiancé got the short ribs bowl which was good but the best had to be the Fish and Chip our friend ordered! It was salmon! Super flavorful and not at all greasy and heavy! My only complaint is the place got super smokey while we were waiting for our food! They had to open up the doors but when we left we all ended up smelling like smoke on our clothes! Bites is definitely one of my favorite restaurants around the Pacific University area. Huge menu here with tons of interesting options to choose from. It's the perfect restaurant to have when you're unsure of what to eat and want some variety. From burgers to ramen to rice bowls, there's a bit of everything here at this Asian fusion restaurant. We ordered the kai dow rice plate w/ short ribs, the udon, and the crab cake bites. The crab cake bites were a bit disappointing as well as the udon as the flavor was very bland (if you want noodles, the ramen looked way better). I really enjoyed the kai dow though! It was definitely lacking some flavor as well (sriracha helps) and the rice in this isn't typical fried rice, but the overall dish is great and the short ribs here are delicious. Portion sizes are also very solid, and prices weren't too bad! The service here is fast and friendly, the restaurant is very spacious. They even have a bar here! I love restaurants with huge interesting menus, so if you're into Asian fusion food and want variety, this is a great choice! I'll definitely be back to try some of their other stuff. read more
