I was in town for work and this place was highly recommend recommended both by staff and what we saw online from reviews. A colleague and I made a reservation and while it was for an outside table, they were able to accommodate us to sit at the bar which we really appreciated because of the weather. The menu is mostly small plates and they recommend 2 to 3 dishes per person. We ordered five total. I ordered the jicama salad, octopus and snapper-- all of the items were delicious and there was nothing left on my plate. The Bartender forgot my colleague drink, but once we let them know, got it right away and comped it. Overall, an amazing experience and would highly recommend. Staff was super friendly and sat me early since I checked in early, made it absolutely no big deal even though they were a little busy. I was in no rush but it was appreciated. Black bean and plantain empanadas were awesome, grilled octopus was awesome. Iberico Secreto was solid. It was a pork dish and it was good but definitely not 45 dollars good. We had dinner here and the food and drinks were excellent! We started off with a couple of cocktails that were very enjoyable. I had a mal humorado, which had a little bit of a spicy bite, but not so much so that it took over. Well balanced. My wife had the paletero, which was refreshing and smooth. The food is served as shareable small plates. What we found was some were very small (2 scallops for $23?) and some were surprisingly large. If when we go back - we will definitely order the jicama salad. I'm not usually a jicama fan (I find it boring) but this was excellent. It had hazelnuts and an outstanding dressing that made it to the highlight of our meal. We would also order the cheese and corn fritters. They were great on their own, but it came with a salsa Verde that really brightened them up. I've already mentioned the scallops. They were reasonably well prepared but very much overpriced for what we got. With regards to service, our server was Ella, and she was fabulous! She helped us select our drinks and our food and her recommendation to her spot on based on what we told her we liked. She was also very friendly and always had a smile on her face. So, what keeps Le Chon from receiving five stars? The host who sat us was not very welcoming or friendly. In general, the front of the restaurant seemed a bit overwhelmed with what I would call a reasonable crowd. However, once we were seated, the rest of the experience was excellent. The good news: the welcome experience is easily fixed (maybe they were just having it off night), and if that doesn't matter to you, then this restaurant is five star worthy. read more

Bone marrow: Low-key, when I first saw it, I was very skeptical. I was honestly scared to eat it. Thank goodness I was with people who had tried it before and assured me it was a good idea. Then they handed me a little piece of bread topped with bone marrow and green sauce, and OMG!!! it was so good. This was hands down the best introduction to bone marrow I could have asked for. The bone marrow was incredible and such a unique experience. I never knew I needed it in my life. It literally melts in your mouth. All the flavors work together perfectly. It isn't oily or overly fatty like you might expect. It's buttery, smooth, rich, and slightly smoky. I even learned that the marrow bones come from a female cow. The salad was also really good, especially the sauce. Overall, the entire experience was fantastic. When you walk in, the atmosphere is calm and relaxing and not overwhelming at all. The seating is spread throughout different rooms instead of being one large dining area, and each space has its own vibe. It never felt crowded or rushed. It was easy to relax, enjoy the food, and have a peaceful meal. The only thing I'd mention is that it was pretty cold where we were sitting, so I'd recommend bringing a light sweater. It wasn't a huge issue, but you'll probably be more comfortable with an extra layer. We also tried the hot honey fermented chicken, and it was delicious. It had great flavor without being overly spicy. The chicken was all white meat, tender, and didn't have that strong "chicken-y" taste that some people don't like. Tasted like real chicken from a real farm! Best chicken I've had ever! Topped with a green sauce and corn that is actually insane. OMG!!! Not okay. Definitely an unforgettable meal. On the edge of the bag by the water, Lechon is a unique dining experience with high quality food and service! Highly recommend! LOCATION: right by the water close to the edge of the downtown. Can be hard to find street parking, but it's one of the only option. Give yourself some time to find it. The host was nice and our server came by to check on us frequently for water and anything needed and how the food was. Great service overall! This is my favorite place (so far) in Portland! Years ago, I went here while I was visiting PDX and had the best meal of the trip. The bone marrow was mind blowing! Now that I live in Portland, I enjoy heading to the bar for happy hour and trying new things. Everything has been stellar! Their burger is absolutely the biggest, best, juiciest and most creative burger I've had here yet! The bun is fresh, meat patty is thiccc, cheese is yummy and the sauces just take it over the edge. Ask for extra napkins! Their mushrooms, bread and egg sounds simple but it's mind blowing how much flavor it has and everything is cooked perfectly. Their corn and cheese fritters are like corn bread cakes with crack sauce. Their mushroom bao are bursting with flavor in fluffy fresh buns. They have a huge vegetarian menu and also cook meat very expertly. Something for everyone! Omega and Hunter run the bar with efficient and friendly service. They are masters of their craft cocktails. I love the ambiance. 80's music. Jellyfish tank. Separated dining areas keep the acoustics from being too loud and it gives it a more intimate feel. Bathrooms are clean. What is wrong with this place? Racism? This was my first time experiencing something like this in Portland. The food wasn't bad, but I am never coming back. We arrived early, and the restaurant wasn't busy, yet they guided us to a cramped corner table. When they noticed my expression change, they made up a ridiculous excuse, claiming "people usually prefer corners." Meanwhile, every non-Asian party that came in after us was seated at the nice tables in the center. Every single Asian couple that walked in? Guided straight to that exact same corner. We eventually asked to change seats, and so did the Asian couple who came in right after us. After we moved, they filled that tiny corner with yet another Asian couple who arrived later. That's when it hit me: this is what subtle racism feels like. I will never step foot in this place again. I came here because I heard the food was good, but the experience left me deeply upset. A restaurant doesn't just sell food; it sells its philosophy and service. While this might have been an issue with that specific host, the owner is ultimately responsible for failing to properly train their staff. This was an absolute favorite dinner on my trip to Portland! We showed up on a Friday night without a reservation and asked to sit at the bar, which was also full. There was a wait, but we were able to order some drinks while we sat by the front, and we were quickly seated after! Whenever I visit Portland my friends and I go to the best restaurants we can find. It's always fun to try a new place that's also highly recommended. Let's get into it. We arrived after a short walk as it barely drizzled. We ordered cocktails and perused the menu. The shrimp ceviche was bright and delicious. The scallops were cooked perfectly. The bone marrow was quite good. Corn cakes were cheesy and great with the dipping sauce. Mushrooms and a fried egg was divine. Smoked duck was VERY smoky. Cocktails were strong and good. I also tried some mocktail here that was one of the best mocktails I've had. For food we tried: Pan seared scallops: scallops cooked perfectly and the polenta sauce is to die for, the corn flavor is heavenly. We were scraping the last drop of the sauce. Our favorite dish. Peruvian fried chicken bites: glazed chicken bites with really delicious and unique sauces with a little bit of corn! Amazing appetizers Octopus: again, the sauce is amazing and unique but the octopus was a bit tough this time. I think last time we visited, it was a bit more tender. The potatoes on the side were very good. Foraged mushroom: super umami, mushroom flavor packed! Flank steak: wow, this was mind blowing! It has a dark feel with a some community seating in one long food table area. Nice bar and plenty of family style booths/tables. I really like the large fish tanks they have - nice blue ambiance. Shrimp ceviche is a must - the sauce and the freshness of the shrimp is superb. Corn fritters... are also a MUST. Surprisingly very flavorful and the dipping sauce it comes with... i dipped everything in it lol. Peruvian chicken bites were a surprise - I don't expect them to sauced up and I loved it. They were crispy, sweet and juicy. Chicken lovers will love this. Grilled octopus: I usually love this wherever I go but this was a little bland and felt overpowered by the other ingredients. I recommend a sous vide method + searing, and making it more of the star of the dish instead of an equal contender. Dessert was amazing, light and flavorful. For such a vibey restaurant (there is a jelly fish tank), I think coming for date night and doing the whole deal is well worth missing HH. If you happen to be there early, you'll save about 10 bucks! The happy hour burger was good, it's busy with buttery pickles and lots of frills (big too). But the fish is why you should come! I don't know that they have a bad thing on the menu, but I can say that the hanger steak is hands down the best flank steak in Portland. FLANK That smoky candy bacon jam and red sauce just works really well together on the plate. I think it was a romesco but I'm not sure because I don't usually like romesco but loved this. I was regretting not ordering the ribeye to share but when I checked that first bite, I forgot about all other food. EMPANADA The empanadas are bomb with their dipping sauces, but if he had to choose which one to get, I'd say -- get the brisket. SCALLOPS The pan seared scallops are bomb - they are in season and we're perfectly cooked. If I changed anything, it would be to not put them on top of so much polenta. The polenta was too sweet for my liking without heat or more acid. I probably could've ate more if I had more of those roasted tomatoes but they're just weren't enough to balance that bowl. MUSHROOMS The forged mushrooms were delicious. They were served under toasted brioche with a sunny side egg. I wonder if we waited too long to eat this because the flavors were great but the toast wanted something more like a warm side sauce of sauce just to reheat the plate and make the toast a little less dry. I couldn't get into whatever sauce was on the plate, but I think it was roasted garlic purée? Anyway, I would skip this in the future, but glad I tried it. PERUVIAN FRIED CHICKEN BITES The Peruvian fried chicken bites were a straight party in the mouth. I really didn't want to order fried chicken from here, but my friend interested and I ended up liking it more than her. It's dynamic, crunchy, sweet, bright and bold - just get one and share. I don't think you'll be disappointed. DESSERT I loved the Ube ice cream that came with the chocolate cake. The chocolate cake was beautiful and delicious and the chocolate cream. There was just one layer I couldn't stand. I had to remove the pistachio kunafa. I love Dubai chocolate which is why I ordered this, but it didn't work for me here. It was a texture issue - I don't want kunafa unless it's crunchy. Otherwise, I could eat that chocolate cake without that kunafa layer any day. I'm not a banana person, but the banana tart was tangy, and my banana loving friend was kind of into it. I prefer the chocolate cake and absolutely went bonkers over that Uber gelato. Walked in on a Tuesday night to eat my feels and got seated immediately at the bar. I don't usually enjoy perching on tall bar seats and trying to juggle my belongings but I was mesmerised by the jellyfish tank behind the bar. Super cool to watch all the jellyfish bop around ; their movements were so graceful. As for the food, three out of the four dishes, I ordered were bangers so pretty good showing. I was mildly disappointed that they didn't have the whole grilled Bronzino on their menu (the last time I was here it was during the summer, so perhaps that's a seasonal thing). The Wagyu steak tartare was very tender and rich, but the highlight was actually the crostinis that came with it. Probably the best crostinis I've ever had honestly - so crispy and buttery and chewy. it perfectly complemented the tartare and was more than just the vehicle for the protein. It was the star of the show. The clam and chorizo pasta was also a hit, what really tied the dish together was the grilled lemon that we squeezed on top. It really brightened up the sauce and made everything bright and delicious and honestly, we were scraping the plate to lick up some of that sauce. The smoked duck breast was also a highlight. I love duck, and the smokiness from this one was exquisite. The duck breast was perfectly cooked, juicy and so delicious and flavorful. The bed of mushrooms it came with was also stellar. unfortunately, the scallops were a bit of a miss for me. I don't particularly like polenta and this one felt a little loose/soupy for me (too much cream?). The scallops were good ; well cooked but nothing to write home about. Now, onto the food... We decided to go with the Chef's tasting menu, plus an order of smoked bone marrow. Every dish was incredibly memorable. #1 Patagonian Prawn Tiradito: refreshing and citrusy flavors, surprisingly paired so well with the complementary chips! #2 Golden Buns: one of my favorites. The bun was soft, and the texture nicely blended with the sauciness of the crab & shrimp salad. Taste was subtle, yet with good hints of seafood aroma. #3 Compressed Watermelon Salad: satisfying plate of salad that felt light with the pepita vinaigrette. My favorite was the crunchy texture from those pecans! #4 Smoked bone marrow (a la carte): I've had handful of bone marrow dishes in the past and this one did not disappoint. I particularly loved the chimichurri sauce. #5 Clam and chorizo pasta: this dish had the least "wow" factor for me, however was delicious! It was not too creamy, and ingredients were plentiful. #6 Iberico Pork Chop (forgot to take a picture!): flavorful and tender meat, nicely crisped on the outside. For the bigger dishes we went with the lomo saltado and the roasted smoked duck breast, and honestly, cannot pick a favorite of the two- they are both 100% worth ordering!! This place completely made up for the lackluster birthday dinner I had last year. It had been years since I'd visited--and only for lunch before--but dinner exceeded all expectations. Three of us went with the tasting menu, and while every dish was excellent, the scallops were a standout. My mom had the salmon, and we all agreed it was hands down the best salmon we've ever had. Honestly, I could've eaten just that and been perfectly satisfied. We also had more people join us than originally planned, and despite how busy the restaurant was, our server quickly came up with a solution so we could all sit together. The food was absolutely delicious! However, the service and staff need some help. The waiter we had was 6 days into his job, which was nice he let us know. Of course he was busy and new so the service was disjointed and slow. The main thing that was very strange was he literally mansplained to me that a dirty martini was only alcohol and olive juice. I told him no, there's also vermouth, and he practically scolded me and told me I was wrong.....so weird! read more

We had a reservation for two and got seated in a roomy booth spot with views of the gorgeous fish tanks! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and can't wait to come again. It might be our new favorite, the food is so flavorful. There's so many things we didn't order that we wanted to try so we're looking forward to coming back. Our server helped us choose when we couldn't decide but I seriously don't think you can go wrong with anything! I did notice some tiny tables of two that looked uncomfortable and in the walkway path and I'm glad we were not sat there. read more
