Amazing vibe, service and good. Foraged mushrooms, flank steak and grilled snapper were unforgettable. True Grit one of the best cocktails I've had in a long, long time. Absolute must try!

We came for dining month and we were absolutely in love with the food. The three of us left so stuff but so happy with such a delicious meal. That empanada start was so impressive, perfectly made with a great crust but soft inside. All the flavors were done so well and fit together perfectly. The tuna was so good on its on but the sauces elevated the dish wonderfully. Everything else was great too and the dessert tied everything together so well. We will definitely be back but that was such a value deal for dining month, you definitely won us over and guaranteed to return! Thank you!

Whenever I visit Portland my friends and I go to the best restaurants we can find. It's always fun to try a new place that's also highly recommended. Let's get into it. We arrived after a short walk as it barely drizzled. We ordered cocktails and perused the menu. The shrimp ceviche was bright and delicious. The scallops were cooked perfectly. The bone marrow was quite good. Corn cakes were cheesy and great with the dipping sauce. Mushrooms and a fried egg was divine. Smoked duck was VERY smoky. Cocktails were strong and good. So much so, we got a round of the passion fruit tequila cocktail we loved TO-GO. Our server Adam was great and he was personable and knowledgeable. We'll be back again soon to try the rest of the menu. 7.9/10 Thanks!

We came for Happy Hour and drinks. I was kind of skeptical but man did it deliver. The drinks were right up my alley, we got the Mal Humorado and the Lechon Margarita. I would re-order any of those easily. Then for food I got the Shrimp Ceviche, Fried Olives and the Foraged Mushrooms. The flavors were insane especially on the ceviche which really stood out for me. The only downside it Happy Hour runs from 4-5pm which can be kind of tricky with traffic most of the time. That's just my one teeny tiny issue.

Hands down the best restaurant in PNW! Everything is bursting with flavors and perfectly cooked! Service was very professional and friendly. I also tried some mocktail here that was one of the best mocktails I've had. For food we tried: Pan seared scallops: scallops cooked perfectly and the polenta sauce is to die for, the corn flavor is heavenly. We were scraping the last drop of the sauce. Our favorite dish. Peruvian fried chicken bites: glazed chicken bites with really delicious and unique sauces with a little bit of corn! Amazing appetizers Octopus: again, the sauce is amazing and unique but the octopus was a bit tough this time. I think last time we visited, it was a bit more tender. The potatoes on the side were very good. Foraged mushroom: super umami, mushroom flavor packed! Flank steak: wow, this was mind blowing! Didn't expect such a great steak from a non traditional steakhouse, but I think it beats most steakhouses in PNW. The meat is cooked perfectly - the outside is slightly crispy and charred, and the inside is insanely juicy and tender. And the sauce is amazing. We literally drove from Seattle to try this restaurant the second time, and it was totally worth it!

I've been wanting to come here for months and finally decided to stop by randomly one evening. There is usually a wait so be prepared for that. It has a dark feel with a some community seating in one long food table area. Nice bar and plenty of family style booths/tables. I really like the large fish tanks they have - nice blue ambiance. Staff were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The seafood empanadas were tasty but not my favorite. Brisket empanadas are AMAZING. The shell is soft and the meat is very tender. Shrimp ceviche is a must - the sauce and the freshness of the shrimp is superb. Corn fritters... are also a MUST. Surprisingly very flavorful and the dipping sauce it comes with... i dipped everything in it lol. Peruvian chicken bites were a surprise - I don't expect them to sauced up and I loved it. They were crispy, sweet and juicy. Chicken lovers will love this. Grilled octopus: I usually love this wherever I go but this was a little bland and felt overpowered by the other ingredients. I recommend a sous vide method + searing, and making it more of the star of the dish instead of an equal contender. Dessert was amazing, light and flavorful. Can't go wrong with chocolate, pistachio, and ube. Drinks were amazing as well. The staff here has a breadth of experience and I bet you'll have a good time here.

This place has been around for 10+ years and for good reason. Solid food from Chef Jaco every time I drop by for Happy Hour or dinner. Nice blend of South American dishes with some other flavors mixed in. Had the corn and beef pastel - excellent. The pork belly Bao buns were perfect and the scallop crude sublime. Good wine choices by the glass too. Well done!

    Pan Seared Scallops with polenta

Scallops and polenta, brisket and fontina empanadas, lobster corn dog... just a few of the must order items at Lechon. We attended the happy hour (btwn 4-5) and it is a few (2-3) dollars off full sized portions. For such a vibey restaurant (there is a jelly fish tank), I think coming for date night and doing the whole deal is well worth missing HH. If you happen to be there early, you'll save about 10 bucks! The happy hour burger was good, it's busy with buttery pickles and lots of frills (big too). But the fish is why you should come! The shrimp ceviche was so plentiful in a beautiful yellow sauce and crunchy delicious taro and other seasoned root chips. My only ouch is that unfortunately, the octopus was fairly chewy. My mocktail was kickin', cucumber NA gin and jalapeños tho! Good PDX service, hard workers bringing out gorgeous small plates.

Overall a good meal and overall experience! Tuna: Bright sauce with a nice mild spice. Potatoes add some sweetness but the avocado didn't really do much for me. The tuna flavor itself wasn't very apparent in the dish for me. Brisket Empanadas: Crispy, tender brisket, nicely seasoned, and had a great cheese pull! A standard spicy aioli but pairs well. Octopus: Light char and slightly chewy - which there was more char. Flavorful herb paste with refreshing lemon aioli. Fried potatoes in this were so good! I recommend eating components on one bite - came together much better. Fritters: Crispy outside and nice fry. Felt like just a hush puppy but more elevated with the cilantro sauce and jalapeños. Corn Pie: Kind of like Chili? Nice spice, tasty - alright overall. Flank steak: Best dish of the night - definitely recommend. Smoky, tender, well seasoned. The ancho like sauce and bacon jalapeño jam was such a nice touch, adding depth and sweetness. Banana Caramel Pie: Delicious and balanced! Real banana, not too sweet, great way to end the night. Staff were really friendly. I came for my birthday and they left a nice card at the table. The space is a bit tight and can be overstimulating.

Coming back to update this review after my second visit and can confirm still one of my favorite restaurants in Portland! This time we got the chicken bites, a different salad, scallops, bao buns, and the brisket empanadas. We finished with the banana Dulce de leche pie and omg. Chef knows what they are doing here. Go for HH for a little discount on drinks and small plates!

    Ahí ceviche
    Courtney R.

Came for mid day ceviche and left with an experience! Each dish was explained to us when presented and the flavors were otherworldly. The ahi tuna ceviche melted in your mouth. Seating is tight and limited, so you'll need a reservation for dinner- we were lucky and slipped in without much wait around 3pm by sitting at the bar.

    Plantain & Black Bean Empanadas
    Rayna A.

I don't know that they have a bad thing on the menu, but I can say that the hanger steak is hands down the best flank steak in Portland. FLANK That smoky candy bacon jam and red sauce just works really well together on the plate. I think it was a romesco but I'm not sure because I don't usually like romesco but loved this. I was regretting not ordering the ribeye to share but when I checked that first bite, I forgot about all other food. EMPANADA The empanadas are bomb with their dipping sauces, but if he had to choose which one to get, I'd say -- get the brisket. SCALLOPS The pan seared scallops are bomb - they are in season and we're perfectly cooked. If I changed anything, it would be to not put them on top of so much polenta. The polenta was too sweet for my liking without heat or more acid. I probably could've ate more if I had more of those roasted tomatoes but they're just weren't enough to balance that bowl. MUSHROOMS The forged mushrooms were delicious. They were served under toasted brioche with a sunny side egg. I wonder if we waited too long to eat this because the flavors were great but the toast wanted something more like a warm side sauce of sauce just to reheat the plate and make the toast a little less dry. I couldn't get into whatever sauce was on the plate, but I think it was roasted garlic purée? Anyway, I would skip this in the future, but glad I tried it. PERUVIAN FRIED CHICKEN BITES The Peruvian fried chicken bites were a straight party in the mouth. I really didn't want to order fried chicken from here, but my friend interested and I ended up liking it more than her. It's dynamic, crunchy, sweet, bright and bold - just get one and share. I don't think you'll be disappointed. DESSERT I loved the Ube ice cream that came with the chocolate cake. The chocolate cake was beautiful and delicious and the chocolate cream. There was just one layer I couldn't stand. I had to remove the pistachio kunafa. I love Dubai chocolate which is why I ordered this, but it didn't work for me here. It was a texture issue - I don't want kunafa unless it's crunchy. Otherwise, I could eat that chocolate cake without that kunafa layer any day. I'm not a banana person, but the banana tart was tangy, and my banana loving friend was kind of into it. I prefer the chocolate cake and absolutely went bonkers over that Uber gelato. Service was really good. Sophie was a wonderful server and we'll definitely be back to see her.

    Ask the Community - Lechon

How is walk up on a Saturday evening right now, best time?

We went early on a weekend and lucked into a table! Blue hair special at 5:30-6 worked out.

    Are there any Vegan options?

They have a couple vegan options on their menu

If you can't find a table via reservation, can you still swing 2 spots at the bar? Is that a viable scenario for this place?

Yes, if you show up 8:30 you should have no problem. Regardless if you come during the busiest time the staff is helpful and cheery (they're a little short staffed so be prepared) so they'll take your name and seat you as soon as they can. Without… Read more

    Is it kid friendly?

We've been many times and seen a few kids (~10-12yrs). The restaurant is very friendly. I'd say if you're confident that your kids will like the food, go fo it!

Where is the safest place to park during the late evening for this restaurant? Is it a safe area to walk around when sun goes down?

There is a parking lot just steps away from Lechon. You can park there or on the street. Walking around the area after dark is pretty much like everywhere else... proceed with caution. Enjoy... it is delightful.

Any parking lots or recommendations to park other than the street?

What is the appropriate wardrobe for dining at Lechon?

It's actually casual, I just went in a summer dress, my husband wore shorts and a t-shirt or you can dress up as well.

    Outdoor dining available?

When we went, there were a few tables outside but that was in october

    What time is happy hour?

Their happy hour is pretty the same from open to 6 pm . Though they open later now at 4:30 pm

Does Le Chon allow you to bring your own wine and if so what is the corkage fee?

I would recommend that you contact LeChon directly. I am not sure that they have a set published policy.

Is this place good for large groups?

I would say so. When I was there I was with a group of five. I also saw a group of eight.

Does this restaurant have a tasting menu?

Yes. Its called the "Chef's Tasting Menu". It is posted on a blackboard in the restaurant and obviously the wait staff also knows.

If we arrive during happy hour, can I order off both happy hour and dinner menus?

Hello, Yes, you can absolutely order off of both the happy hour and dinner menus.

Ate kids allowed to do happy hour or is it just in the bar?

I believe they are allowed, HH is included in the main dining area

Can you make a reservation for happy hour?

Thank you so much for your inquiry! We unfortunately do not take reservations for happy hour as… Read more

When did they update their happy hour menu? (I ask because the menu on their website has outdated pricing vs menu actually in restaurant)

Happens all the time, things move fast in a restaurant when they're focused on your great food and an amazing guest experience. I LOVED this place and this is something that should be somewhat expected.

What time is happy hour? Are there happy hour cocktails?

    4:30-5:30pm

    Does Lechon still serve brunch?

They are open for brunch on week days. Not on weekends.

Do they still have beef tartare on the menu? I cannot seem to find it.

I did not see it. I do know that they change their menu periodically.

To speak about Teardrop Lounge, I should probably start with this:…read more Ladies and gentlemen, I present my favorite cocktail bar. Not the best -- I'm not arrogant enough to claim that. I haven't been to every cocktail bar in Portland, and saying something is the best usually says more about your lack of experience than your conviction. But favorite? That I can stand behind. And I want to get that out of the way early, because of the amount of praise I'm about to pour on this place -- fully earned, completely intentional. The biggest crime here is that I only discovered it two weeks ago, after living in Portland for a year. It had been recommended to me countless times, and I ignored it. A mistake. A painful one. But now that I've found it, I don't plan on making that mistake again. I'm not typically an Old Fashioned drinker. In fact, I usually hate them. But somewhere between curiosity and too many episodes of Mad Men, I decided to try one anyway -- fully expecting to confirm my bias. Instead, it completely flipped me. Bright, almost citrus-forward in a way that felt unusual but entirely intentional. Balanced, smooth, just enough burn to remind you what you're drinking without overwhelming it. It was the first time I actually understood the appeal. I'm pretty sure I grew a few chest hairs that night. That alone would've been impressive. But it didn't stop there. The space is beautiful -- clean, intentional, but not cold. The staff are excellent: personable, engaged, and most importantly, authentic. Not scripted, not performative. The kind of people you actually want to talk to, and hopefully, eventually be on a first-name basis with. Now, all of that gets it close to a perfect score. But what pushes it over the edge -- what makes this place stick -- is the White Russian. One of the first drinks I ever had. My dad's drink. Not because of The Big Lebowski -- that came later -- but because it's just always been his thing. And at some point, it became mine too. Typically, when bars try to "elevate" a White Russian, they ruin it. They overthink it. Swap ingredients, tweak ratios, add unnecessary flair. And more often than not, it ends in disappointment. Teardrop does the opposite. They respect it -- but refine it. The coffee liqueur actually tastes like coffee. The heavy cream is properly integrated, not just dumped on top. The vodka -- whatever they're using -- is clean, present, and perfectly measured. There's a subtle complexity to it without losing what makes the drink what it is. It's the best White Russian I've ever had. No hesitation. I've gone back twice just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. It wasn't. If someone asked me what my death row drink would be -- this specific cocktail, from this specific bar, is in the conversation. Easily. Teardrop Lounge doesn't just make great cocktails. It reminds you why cocktails matter in the first place. And that's why it's my favorite.

One of the best parts was how approachable the bartenders were. We asked for custom drinks based on our preferences, and both came out perfectly tailored. Creative without being weird, and strong without being sloppy. What really stood out was the price point. For the quality of cocktails, the prices felt very reasonable compared to similar craft cocktail bars in other cities. The vibe was also great -- relaxed, cozy, and not pretentious. It felt like a place where you could come for a special drink experience without feeling like you had to "perform" or order off a rigid menu. We liked it so much we actually came back a second time during our trip. Highly recommend if you're into well-crafted cocktails, friendly bartenders, and a laid-back but elevated atmosphere.
