I had to add the last two to our reservation at the last minute and the hostess who answered the phone was so sweet and double checked for me that it was ok we bring our own cake. Our server was patient and made excellent recommendations. The ambiance was perfect for our little gathering and everyone kept asking who picked the restaurant because they loved the food so much. Personally, I think I ended up getting to try half the menu and it was all good, but the corn fritters, plantain empanadas, ceviche, and patatas were all next-level good. I don't know what they put in their sauces, but I wanted to bring home bottles of all of them. Splitting the check up at the end was kind of chaotic, but they were patient with us while we did the math and, if they were at all stressed out by the large number of diners, we couldn't tell. This is my favorite place (so far) in Portland! Years ago, I went here while I was visiting PDX and had the best meal of the trip. The bone marrow was mind blowing! Now that I live in Portland, I enjoy heading to the bar for happy hour and trying new things. Everything has been stellar! Their burger is absolutely the biggest, best, juiciest and most creative burger I've had here yet! The bun is fresh, meat patty is thiccc, cheese is yummy and the sauces just take it over the edge. Ask for extra napkins! Their mushrooms, bread and egg sounds simple but it's mind blowing how much flavor it has and everything is cooked perfectly. Their corn and cheese fritters are like corn bread cakes with crack sauce. Their mushroom bao are bursting with flavor in fluffy fresh buns. They have a huge vegetarian menu and also cook meat very expertly. Something for everyone! Omega and Hunter run the bar with efficient and friendly service. They are masters of their craft cocktails. Five star dining experience. Literally I have no notes to give them. Everything exceeded our expectations. We had a reservation and were show to our table right away. We came for dining month and we were absolutely in love with the food. The three of us left so stuff but so happy with such a delicious meal. That empanada start was so impressive, perfectly made with a great crust but soft inside. All the flavors were done so well and fit together perfectly. Whenever I visit Portland my friends and I go to the best restaurants we can find. It's always fun to try a new place that's also highly recommended. Let's get into it. We arrived after a short walk as it barely drizzled. We ordered cocktails and perused the menu. The shrimp ceviche was bright and delicious. The scallops were cooked perfectly. The bone marrow was quite good. Corn cakes were cheesy and great with the dipping sauce. Mushrooms and a fried egg was divine. Smoked duck was VERY smoky. Cocktails were strong and good. We came for Happy Hour and drinks. I was kind of skeptical but man did it deliver. The drinks were right up my alley, we got the Mal Humorado and the Lechon Margarita. I would re-order any of those easily. Then for food I got the Shrimp Ceviche, Fried Olives and the Foraged Mushrooms. The flavors were insane especially on the ceviche which really stood out for me. Staff were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The seafood empanadas were tasty but not my favorite. Brisket empanadas are AMAZING. The shell is soft and the meat is very tender. Shrimp ceviche is a must - the sauce and the freshness of the shrimp is superb. Corn fritters... are also a MUST. Surprisingly very flavorful and the dipping sauce it comes with... i dipped everything in it lol. Peruvian chicken bites were a surprise - I don't expect them to sauced up and I loved it. They were crispy, sweet and juicy. Chicken lovers will love this. Grilled octopus: I usually love this wherever I go but this was a little bland and felt overpowered by the other ingredients. The happy hour burger was good, it's busy with buttery pickles and lots of frills (big too). But the fish is why you should come! Here's what we tried: Brisket empanada - very good, great dough texture, flavorful filling Plantain & black bean empanada - much too sweet for my taste Gaucho bread and chimichurri - excellent, best thing on the menu Peruvian fried chicken bites - quite good with a great crispy texture but covered in a sauce so cloyingly sweet we couldn't eat much of it Pork tacos - very good, lots of pork, my companion's favorite dish Pork belly baocitos - great flavor, but again too sweet Ahi tuna tiradito - just ok, sauce was overwhelming and too much of it Pastel de choclo - Small looking dish that is actually filling. But there is no discernible corn. The topping is probably made with polenta or something corn-y but no kernels to be found anywhere. They describe it as a beef and corn pie. But if you're a Spanish speaker from Latin America and see the words "Pastel de Choclo" (literally Corn Pie) you are expecting a very different dish. So that was misleading. Still, the flavor was very good. Will definitely be back to try more items. I think the key might be to order strategically to create balance. I don't know that they have a bad thing on the menu, but I can say that the hanger steak is hands down the best flank steak in Portland. FLANK That smoky candy bacon jam and red sauce just works really well together on the plate. I think it was a romesco but I'm not sure because I don't usually like romesco but loved this. I was regretting not ordering the ribeye to share but when I checked that first bite, I forgot about all other food. EMPANADA The empanadas are bomb with their dipping sauces, but if he had to choose which one to get, I'd say -- get the brisket. SCALLOPS The pan seared scallops are bomb - they are in season and we're perfectly cooked. If I changed anything, it would be to not put them on top of so much polenta. The polenta was too sweet for my liking without heat or more acid. I probably could've ate more if I had more of those roasted tomatoes but they're just weren't enough to balance that bowl. MUSHROOMS The forged mushrooms were delicious. They were served under toasted brioche with a sunny side egg. I wonder if we waited too long to eat this because the flavors were great but the toast wanted something more like a warm side sauce of sauce just to reheat the plate and make the toast a little less dry. I couldn't get into whatever sauce was on the plate, but I think it was roasted garlic purée? Anyway, I would skip this in the future, but glad I tried it. PERUVIAN FRIED CHICKEN BITES The Peruvian fried chicken bites were a straight party in the mouth. I really didn't want to order fried chicken from here, but my friend interested and I ended up liking it more than her. It's dynamic, crunchy, sweet, bright and bold - just get one and share. I don't think you'll be disappointed. DESSERT I loved the Ube ice cream that came with the chocolate cake. The chocolate cake was beautiful and delicious and the chocolate cream. There was just one layer I couldn't stand. I had to remove the pistachio kunafa. I love Dubai chocolate which is why I ordered this, but it didn't work for me here. It was a texture issue - I don't want kunafa unless it's crunchy. Otherwise, I could eat that chocolate cake without that kunafa layer any day. I'm not a banana person, but the banana tart was tangy, and my banana loving friend was kind of into it. I prefer the chocolate cake and absolutely went bonkers over that Uber gelato. Walked in on a Tuesday night to eat my feels and got seated immediately at the bar. I don't usually enjoy perching on tall bar seats and trying to juggle my belongings but I was mesmerised by the jellyfish tank behind the bar. Super cool to watch all the jellyfish bop around ; their movements were so graceful. As for the food, three out of the four dishes, I ordered were bangers so pretty good showing. I was mildly disappointed that they didn't have the whole grilled Bronzino on their menu (the last time I was here it was during the summer, so perhaps that's a seasonal thing). The Wagyu steak tartare was very tender and rich, but the highlight was actually the crostinis that came with it. Probably the best crostinis I've ever had honestly - so crispy and buttery and chewy. it perfectly complemented the tartare and was more than just the vehicle for the protein. It was the star of the show. The clam and chorizo pasta was also a hit, what really tied the dish together was the grilled lemon that we squeezed on top. It really brightened up the sauce and made everything bright and delicious and honestly, we were scraping the plate to lick up some of that sauce. The smoked duck breast was also a highlight. I love duck, and the smokiness from this one was exquisite. The duck breast was perfectly cooked, juicy and so delicious and flavorful. The bed of mushrooms it came with was also stellar. unfortunately, the scallops were a bit of a miss for me. I don't particularly like polenta and this one felt a little loose/soupy for me (too much cream?). The scallops were good ; well cooked but nothing to write home about. We almost ordered a second order of BOTH the ceviche and empanadas, they were THAT good. But opted to wait for our bigger dishes. For the bigger dishes we went with the lomo saltado and the roasted smoked duck breast, and honestly, cannot pick a favorite of the two- they are both 100% worth ordering!! Now, onto the food... We decided to go with the Chef's tasting menu, plus an order of smoked bone marrow. Every dish was incredibly memorable. #1 Patagonian Prawn Tiradito: refreshing and citrusy flavors, surprisingly paired so well with the complementary chips! #2 Golden Buns: one of my favorites. The bun was soft, and the texture nicely blended with the sauciness of the crab & shrimp salad. Taste was subtle, yet with good hints of seafood aroma. #3 Compressed Watermelon Salad: satisfying plate of salad that felt light with the pepita vinaigrette. My favorite was the crunchy texture from those pecans! #4 Smoked bone marrow (a la carte): I've had handful of bone marrow dishes in the past and this one did not disappoint. I particularly loved the chimichurri sauce. #5 Clam and chorizo pasta: this dish had the least "wow" factor for me, however was delicious! You have got to try the bone marrow, this stuff is so delicious and will keep me coming back time and time again. If you are gluten free, mention it and they do have gluten free bread to go along with it. We came early to take advantage of the happy hour, which features discounts on a decent number of plates and drinks. The flavors of the foods pop with the spices and sauces, but none so much as the salad small plate (enough for 2). Small pieces of items such as jicama add texture, and the dressing was addicting. Among the meat options, our favorite was the brisket empanadas. Items come out as they are ready, but for our meal, they seemed paced so that we always had something at our table. We were also seated at at able close to the kitchen, which allowed us to see the preparation and service, which worked like a well oiled machine. It is recommended to make reservations but for a party of two we were able to squeeze in right at the bar counter top. The menu is sectioned between land, sea, starters, and bigger tapas. It also has a vegetarian/vegan menu which is cool. Of course we picked one from every section. The ceviche was amazing!! The brisket empanadas.. heavenly, great scallops. Also, if your into bone marrow it was to die for. It came with a "nan" bread and I would order this bread alone. I also got a glass of a Merlot from Argentina also amazing. Lechon is quintessential Portland. Located along the historic waterfront on SW Naito Parkway, this South American-inspired spot seamlessly blends the fiery cooking of Argentina, Chile, and Patagonia with Pacific Northwest sensibility. I arrived right at 4pm for an early dinner and snagged a seat at the community table facing the open-air kitchen. Perfect view of the action and the somewhat out-of-place (but mesmerizing) jellyfish aquarium. The space features dark wood throughout, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Timing was clutch--I caught their happy hour (Tuesday-Saturday, 4-5pm), which offers full-portion dishes at happy hour prices. The menu is tapas-style with four sections: Sea, Bites, Garden, and Ranch. I went with the Foraged Mushrooms (happy hour price) and the Roasted Duck Breast. Both dishes absolutely blew me away. The foraged mushrooms featured local mushrooms with caramelized onion purée, aged parmesan, and a silky sunny-side-up egg on toasted brioche. But the roasted duck breast? Hands down the best duck breast I've ever had. The richness paired beautifully with a spiced crema. From the atmosphere to the food to the service, Lechon absolutely nails it. We had a wonderful meal at LeChon! We ordered the Clams and Chorizo Pasta, Bone Marrow, and Lomo Saltado. Our favorite dish by far was the Bone Marrow -- rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The ambiance is great, and the fish tanks add a fun, lively touch to the space. Since we were celebrating a birthday, the staff even gave us a thoughtful handwritten card, which was such a nice personal touch.
