We recently had a disappointing and alienating experience at Our Nest. Our family of four came in for breakfast and were seated promptly on the patio. Coffee and water were brought out quickly, and everything started off well. When it came time to order, my mother asked if she could order from the kids' menu. She has a medically documented digestive condition that significantly limits how much she can eat. Because of this, she carries a physician-issued medical card and occasionally requests a smaller portion when dining out. Many restaurants have been understanding and either allow her to order from a smaller-portion menu or offer an adjusted portion at a reduced price. The owner Sam was our server that morning and declined the request. While every restaurant has the right to set its own policies, what felt discouraging was the lack of willingness to explore a simple accommodation or have a brief conversation about it. The interaction left our family -- especially my mother -- feeling dismissed rather than welcomed. It really bummed us out as we were looking forward to trying this place and my mother was the one who found and suggested this place. We ultimately paid for our coffee and chose to dine elsewhere. We had an outstanding breakfast at TJ's Restaurant on Lambert, which has been around as a local favorite for a long time, and offers great food options at roughly half the cost of most menu items from Our Nest. I'm hopeful for a more flexible and compassionate approach in situations involving legitimate medical limitations and it begins with ownership and goes from the top down. As someone who worked in both Front of House and Back of House in many restaurants and bars over the years, I can assure you that small accommodations can go a long way in making guests feel valued. First time here and happy to say it did not disappoint!! Came on a Sunday morning but didn't wait too long to get seated. Service was great the whole time. I loved that there was plenty to choose from for both drinks and food. Serving sizes were generous and the quality and taste was on point! My toast was absolutely delicious as were the chilaquiles. I haven't been to the Fullerton location but I was told this location in Brea is bigger, plenty of seating. I loved the outdoor space too, outdoor seating is needed in SoCal! This was our first time dining at Our Nest. Coffee prices were a bit high compared to other locations. The food prices were comparable and maybe a little higher than those of similar establishments. I thought my burger and fries tasted great. It came out warm. While my friend's dish with tater tots came out cold. She did inform the server, and right away, she did offer a replacement. My friend declined; she just wanted to inform the server. My friend is not easily pleased with most things she eats, so I would take everything she says with a grain of salt. Lol. Must try and a great spot to keep on your eatery rotation. Excellent flavors from a solid menu with good and friendly service. Ambience is simple, nice and clean, but it can get a bit noisy when they are full and busy. This Brea location serves as a much better spot from the old Placentia location. We must add that we did have one bad experience around service that had us waiting an hour for our food, keeping us at the restaurant for two hours for a party of two. After that we did not let that bother us since they were still settling into Brea, and we went back a few times after the experience. Rather than write a bad review from that one experience, we can say we got caught in a gap of their production cycle, which was during peak lunch hour on a Sunday afternoon. If I were to sum up our dinner experience at Our Nest in one word, it would be quality. Quality customer service. Quality food. Quality ambiance. You wouldn't expect a brunch place to serve an upscale dinner, but that is what Our Nest has done. We haven't been for breakfast, but thought we'd get a more casual menu at dinner since it's a brunch place. No, the menu was legit. The dimly lit but not dark atmosphere made it so quaint and cute. Very nice for a date night. My husband got the steak sandy with tallow fries and I got the sea bass with garlic mashed potatoes. Both of us cleaned our plates. The steak was excellently cooked with a perfect balance of chimichurri and pickled onions without being overpowered. The tallow fries were "too good", with a deep earthy flavor and tons of crisp exterior. Perfectly fried. My sea bass was cooked well, and paired well with the buttery sauce and fresh roasted veggies. The mashed potatoes were soooo yum. My husband also ordered their version of a espresso martini. He said it was very good, and he loved the flavors. It was very stiff though. Our waters were refilled frequently throughout the night, and the owner came to visit our table as well. The wait staff were extremely friendly. So why not 5 stars? Well, you are paying a pretty penny for the quality you receive. I get it...the restaurant industry runs on tight margins and a decent meal at a fast casual restaurant nowadays is easily $20-25. Our entrees were each $40+, so we paid $150 for the two dinner entrees, a $20 cocktail, plus tax and 20% tip. It was pretty pricey. Also, the amount of fish I got was a little on the smaller side, and the food took a little longer to come out than I expected. However, all of these things didn't detract from our experience much, and we would love to see this place thrive and stay open. Definitely will be back for breakfast and dinner again! read more

Honestly, I'm not a fan of NYs, I'm a Rib-eye type of guy, but these steaks hit the spot! The steaks were quality and cooked exactly as requested, medium rare. I also liked the presentation. Fried in a proprietary tallow fryer that does not do anything other than make tallow fries. They come as an app, or a side to a tasty burger. These fries do not go into the normal fryer. They do not go into the French toast fryer (that's right, this place cares so much about their food that they have three separate fryers!!!) perfectly crusty and very satisfying. That burger? Snake River farms ground beef. Yup. Name brand wagyu. No cheaping out on ingredients here. Also delightful is the bread pudding. I am a bread pudding snob. Personally make one that is requested regularly at work potlucks and birthdays. A friend even asked if I would make it for her wedding. Believe me when I say, I don't like most bread puddings. This one though... I was stuffed silly... and I still wanted every last bite. The texture... amazing... the balance of salty sweet is perfect. The caramel is wonderful.
