We were recommended Oteo's from my sons nurse and we were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is small but hip and adorable The menu is simple and easy to manage. You get low prices yet a high class presentation that you'd get at a swanky restaurant. They were so kind to offer us a delicious appetizer of Platano Macho and we absolutely loved it! The flavors weren't what we'd expect but were pleasantly surprised. My mother and I split the hanging steak tacos and the Molote. Molote has got to be my favorite! This place feels very unassuming from the outside, but it's a really cute and unique place! They've got some delicious, fresh, and modern Mexican dishes that I haven't seen anywhere else in Utah. My favorite dish was the Avocado tacos. They're a vegetarian option, I'm a meat eater, and these rocked my world. Oteo has a very intimate feel that makes for a great date night. We went to Oreos last week for the first time. Yum! It's a foodie place for sure. Their tacos are so so good. I had 3 tacos, steak, chicken, and pork. They are all good and the meat is just amazing. What a difficult place to review. The food is delicious, pro. The portions are very small and very expensive, con. Everything is fresh, pro. The menu is small, pro to me. So hold onto your butts and let's go on a journey together. I have been wanting to go to this place for a long time, a lot of tasty looking pictures, but I had no idea what the prices were until I got there, and I was a little taken aback... aback is such a weird and stupid word. I apologize for using it. The queso fundido was a great blend of cheese, complemented with the corn tortillas that were quartered. Don't eat it too fast, but don't eat it too slow. It will burn your mouth, but it also solidifies very quickly. Overall I like it, I could have used more tortillas, for the 8$ price tag. Tacos... I mainly got these so I could try every meat that they have, the only one I didn't get to was... I don't remember. Pork taco was really well marinated tasty toppings, I could have used a little less unnecessary vegetables but they really like to dress it up. The chicken was crema and chicken... my least favorite of the three meats. Both tacos for 11$. That is not a typo 5.50 per taco, kind of the opposite of a taco Tuesday, I am sure the explanation would be, "We use fresh ingredients." I will take less veggies, and honest I could go with just meat and tortilla if that will bring prices down... good golly miss molly. Molotes - Good, once again very dressed up, salsa, crema, cabbage sitting on top of delicious steak, on top of two massa cakes, resting on a black bean puree. I very much enjoyed this, once again... not a big cream fan, but the steak was marinated well and tasted so good, definitely my favorite meat of the three and I wish I would have just ordered that and the salsa. Delish. Churros - The one thing that might take them from a 3 to a 4 would be the fact that they offer these for free if you check-in. So... don't forget to check in. They taste so fresh, the perfect amount of doughy to crunchy ratio for me and with the leche dulce... mmm the ideal end to the meal. THE VERDICT: Let's do some math... Two tacos 11, 2 Molotes 12, Queso fundido 8, Churros free. About 37 with tip, and unfortunately I was still hungry. I am a fairly controlled eater. I don't gorge. I was still pretty hungry. I am teetering between 3 and 4 because I totally believe the food here is delicious, but I also will never go here again because the cost to taste ratio wasn't working for me. I ultimately will give them a 4-star because of the free churros available to everyone (if you check-in). But I want to make it very clear, you will spend a lot of money to fill yourself up. The burrito was good but wayyy too expensive for what it is. After tax, our entire meal was $37. It's not that the food was bad, it's just not good enough for the price. But that's the problem, they are small so you need more than two or three in order to leave satisfied but they are pricey as I'll get out so, getting more than two or three will send your bill over the edge. So I walk in with my girl, hottest girl I know (just being honest ‍), and a ten year old boy greets us and sits us. Some people may think child labor is unethical, we thought it was adorable. The queso fundido was indeed fun. Delicious melty cheese that you scoop into literally the best corn tortillas EVER. Little bursts of salty flavor mixed with the cheese and sweet plantains with spicy jalapeños. Just so good. My husband got the chicken tacos and the steak tacos. The steak was amazing. The chicken was mind blowing. I'm not exaggerating. The flavors just keep coming. The chicken was moist, flavorful, covered in the most delicious cabbage slaw with creamy cheese and Rosemary. I had the lobster tacos special. Lobster cooked to absolute perfection with a creamy, delicious sauce, tons of toppings, and lots of spiciness. Ughhh. So, so delicious. And like I stated above, tacos are wrapped in the perfect corn tortillas. The flavor is amazing and they hold together 100% despite all the sauces and toppings they are holding. We ended the meal with a Cronut. It's like a donut but covered in sugar, filled with cream and topped with Carmel, raspberry and chocolate sauce. I was freaking out a little bit at this point. Oteo is amazing! Best flan I've ever tasted -- most flan isn't worth eating -- in my opinion. This one was vibrant with hints of citrus which melded really well with the custard and caramel. The entrees were unique and fresh and really good! I would highly recommend the sope. A layered and wonderful dish! There are delicious plant based options (fresh avocado) available for every entree. We had a large group and had to wait for a table, through no fault of the people at Oteo the large group that was there before us took their time. Because we waited, Oteo gave us so many extras to make up for it -- free appetizers and desserts -- it was wonderful to be able to taste all the things.
