I stopped by Oromo one afternoon for a quick pick-me-up. The woman working the register was so sweet and welcoming. I asked her for some recommendations and she suggested one of the frozen drinks. I'm so glad she did because I have been craving it ever since! They have a few frozen drinks to choose from, but I went with the cold brew + hazelnut truffle. It's made with housemade hazelnut milk, cold brew, cacao, frozen bananas, housemade coconut caramel, maple syrup, vanilla, and seasalt. Trust me-- it is just as heavenly as it sounds! I forgot to get photos of it because I drank it so quickly--sorry! The space is so cute inside and it's in a fun area to wander around, right in the heart of Lincoln Square. I wanted to love Oromo Cafe. I popped in for lunch during a visit to Lincoln Square, primarily because the menu sounded fabulous - so many plant based options, including house-made milks. Unfortunately the menu overpromises and the food underdelivers, at least that day. -Lentil soup: good flavor, but very watery, more like broth than soup. The amount of soup barely reached a third of the way up the bowl, and the price of $7 for the bowl size was candidly just not worth it. -Beet hummus sandwich: again, good flavor, but I was anticipating a sandwich (as per menu description). What was presented was a single piece of naan spread with a thin layer of beet hummus, scattered with a few toppings. For $13 my expectations were higher. The beet hummus was delicious; with the goal of recreating this at home I asked a member of the staff about the ingredients. Unfortunately rather than saying, "I'm not sure, but let me check," they responded with "I don't know. I just started and I don't know most of the menu items." There is a lot of fabulous food in Chicago. Although Oromo Cafe is fine, I recommend saving ones dining experience and money for something truly fabulous. read more

What a cute concept and I adore the fact that they have vegan, gluten-free, refined sugar-free desserts that taste so so good! That brownie I had was delicious and actually satisfying for a sweet tooth like me! The rose latte was enjoyable and once again, they had gluten-free bread to offer for the sandwiches/paninis. Not only that, they are actually a dollar less than the regular one because they say it's smaller. Less - you read that right. Anywhere else they up-charge for the gluten-free version, even if it's just frozen Udi's. It wasn't so here! Really cool Turkish cafe! They have a pretty big selection of vegan food items. When I went I was curious about the Turkish delights, and the girl at the counter was so sweet and let me try one of the bites they usually give out with the coffee as a sample. She was really nice, I came around an hour before closing so they were out of many baked goods however she said that if I wanted something that wasn't there she could go to the back and check if they had more. Turkish delight might not be my thing, the sample tasted pretty good I think but I'm not sure that I would want to eat more than a few small bites. Instead I opted for a pistachio cocoa dream ball, which was basically a creamy pistachio mixture encased in chocolate and was really delicious. It had an EXTREMELY strong pistachio flavor so I would definitely advise you only get it if you are a big fan of pistachio. Very unique selection! Really cute cafe around Lincoln square that sells breads, cookies, Turkish delight, coffee, matcha and more. It's definitely on the pricier side but the drinks and food are all high quality. I got a piece of spicy potato bread and a golden mylk latte that was $12 total. The golden milk drink had a toasty, nutty flavor that is perfect as a fall drink when it's chilly out. All the components of the drink go super well together. I wish I was a coffee drinker but the Turkish coffee options look amazing and unique. Service is very friendly and prompt. Oromo cafe has so many unique drinks on their menu, including a whole bunch of different matcha creations! My friend and I tried the raspberry matcha and the strawberry matcha. Both were delicious and you could tell the matcha was high quality. We also tried the green power bagel sandwiches which had pesto, balsamic, and a bunch of greens. I love that they had this option for vegans, but I will say the amount of greens was a bit heavy. They do have a selection of tables available for dining in, but they do fill up fast on the weekends. They also have a section of their menu dedicated to Turkish coffees and I would love to go back to try those. read more

I'm not sure what heating device they use on the other side of the counter, but that was the hottest beverage I've had. It took quite a while for the tea to cool to a drinking temperature. Turkish coffee shop in Lincoln Square. I've been meaning to try this cafe sooner but finding parking around here is so difficult. Even on a Monday morning, there was construction happening on Lincoln, and parking was very challenging. They have plenty of coffee options and pastries. I figured since I'm in a Turkish coffee shop, I should order that. I had a double coffee with oat milk and sugar free vanilla. They make their own milk alternatives! I thought that was neat. I have never had Turkish coffee like this before so I don't know if it's supposed to be served the way I received it. It was thick and almost grainy. Oromo Cafe is one of my favorite coffee shops in the city because it serves Turkish Coffee! I was admittedly bit intimidated on not knowing how to drink it. It's served with a delish Turkish Delight making this is a unique experience for Coffeephiles. Second time doing this and this time I didn't drink the grounds ! About a 1-1.5: Oromo Cafe has another location in Bucktown, but considering how pleasant that experience was, I was surprised with the Lincoln Square one. We were in the area, and we decided to stop by to get a caffeine fix with some of their pastries offering. Unfortunately, the place was just so chaotic and inefficient. It's definitely smaller in space than Bucktown's, and the staff here are not that friendly. Oromo Café is such a charming spot with a wide variety of menu options, from breakfast sandwiches to coffee, matcha, and delicious bakery treats. I decided to try the vanilla latte and the goat cheese and honey bagel sandwich (which comes with goat cheese, organic arugula, wildflower honey, and walnuts). The sandwich was amazing--so much so that two people asked me what I ordered because it looked so delicious! The staff was incredibly friendly and easily accommodated my request to leave out the walnuts. Great cafe in Lincoln Square. I don't know how long it's been here but somehow I've missed it. I drive through Lincoln Square today and there was a parking space basically right outside so I decided it was kismet. I ordered an apple pecan chai latte and it was good. The kind of chai most places have is pretty standard and really the only thing that tends to change is the type or concentration of spices that's in it. This was an entirely different flavor profile; definitely not something that comes from a concentrate. I was afraid it would be heavy on the nutty flavor but it wasn't at all. The apple gave it a hint of sweetness and it is a great fall drink. They make authentic Turkish coffee. I don't drink coffee and have only ever tasted it once or twice in my life, once being in Istanbul--it's definitely a departure from standard American coffee. It was interesting watching the employee make it whilst I waited. In addition to the drinks, I ordered spicy potato pogocha and a feta and dill pogocha. The potato was excellent, but the feta/dill was disappointing. I'd get the potato again in a heartbeat and definitely get them warmed up or warm them at home. The place was bustling when I stopped in around noon on a Tuesday. It's not especially large but they do have several tables and counter-height seating near the window. Because it's Lincoln Square, parking is a joke (especially since they've chosen to destroy the parking lot for shops), but you might get lucky like I did if you happen to drive here; otherwise, but Brown Line's Western stop is less than a block away. read more

Finally tried Oromo Cafe. I don't think I received the correct drink and believe I was given the pistachio rose latte instead. It was good, but not what I ordered and not what I was in the mood for, and I didn't finish it. I also had the green power bagel, and it was amazing: messy, but very good! Such a cute coffee shop gem right on Lincoln Ave! Found this shop looking for a quick spot before a cooking class on the same street, and was happy to see how many options Oromo has from smoothies to coffee to matcha, even offering pastries and small bites like the avocado toast (pictured). I went with the pistachio strawberry smoothie (they were unfortunately out of pistachio, so subbed for oat milk) and it was refreshing, light, and fruity. I also ordered the avocado toast with a sunny side egg ($2 upcharge) on gluten free toast. Super yummy and if you like your sunny side up runny, you would love it here. Find tons of places in Lincoln Square for coffee. If looking for some bagels to go along with it, get both here. Oromo has a couple locations: one in Bucktown, and this one. Mostly quiet place that's usually not too crowded, and can get work finished. The prices are pretty good for locally made and high quality. A coffee is probably what you want from here. It has some kick ass stuff as far as coffee and hot drinks, and the last time here I got a good one. They had the Pumpkin Pecan Latte, which really hit the spot. It was about $5 for a regular cup. They make it with espresso, house made pecan milk, and house made pumpkin sauce. As for the food, you also have to eat. It's about $10 for a bagel sandwich. Has a few vegetarian choices. Last time I got the Green Power. As you can imagine, there's green vegetables in it. This comes with avocado, balsamic glaze, pesto, and spinach. Also they have cookies, some non dairy. It's about $3 each. These included the Teff And Almond Butter Cookies that had a savory sweetness. Good cookies. Made with coconut, maple syrup, and vanilla. Lots more as far as cookies. There's plenty for non dairy eaters as far as sweets. Has a lot to choose from. It's best known for coffee, and there's quite a lot of it. There's also good bagel sandwiches friendly for vegans and vegetarians. read more

I was so excited to try Oromo Café since my brother's been raving about it for months. I usually place my order online and when I show up to grab, it's usually not ready, and I have to wait for it. Another con is the staff does not acknowledge you standing in front of the pick up area (that to me it's poor customer service). I don't really like overly sweet lattes so I enjoyed it. I did like that they were able to make it decaf for me. For caffeine lovers, they serve Turkish coffee here too...I can't vouch for it since I didn't have it, but I wish I could have tried it (no caffeine for me anymore sadly). Really cute spot off Western. It's very lowkey and chill. Right underneath a Blue line stop. Their matcha is delicious. They have so many flavor combinations. We got the strawberry matcha and it was great. No strawberry jelly so they must have used flavoring, but still good. They had other options such a la pistachio matcha, which I would love to try. We also got the breakfast naan and the breakfast burrito. The breakfast naan looked better than it was, but it was still quite good. The eggs were well cooked and the sauces and oil were the perfect quantity. The olives added a great kick. The naan was quite stubborn and difficult to cut, but still tasted good inevitably. The breakfast burrito was very light, but still satisfying. A decent amount of egg and cheese. The salsa and sour cream go well with it. There were many dessert options I wish I had gotten. The Turkish delight is true Turkish delight and not the powdered wannabe ones. The staff can be quite dry and monotone, but they're quite helpful and accommodating to all our questions. I haven't been to Lincoln Square in some time and did a quick search for a cafe and ended up at Oromo. Great find! I settled in for a while to do some work, and it was a really warm and pleasant atmosphere. The design is lovely, the staff is friendly and welcoming. The cafe and pastries are excellent. I happened to leave my favorite water bottle there and realized it later. I called back and yep, they'd found it, took down my info, and said they'd hold onto it for me. Like a dummy I forgot about it for several weeks. I stopped in, fully expecting it to no longer be there, but when I sheepishly asked about the water bottle I left over a month ago, the barista noted with a smile, "Yep, the green water bottle. We still have it!" I love the story of the owner starting his own business after deciding pre-pharmacy school wasn't what he wanted to devote his life to. Instead, he followed his passion for coffee and community and started his own business, a unique and flavorful take on the traditional Chicago coffee shop.
