Back in Chicago, gastronimer activated, led us to Turquoise, a quaint Turkish restaurant in Roscoe Village. Indoor and outdoor seating, pet friendly, servers friendlier, cordial and very happy to guide the diner who is unfamiliar with Turkish cuisine. We started with lentil soup and artichoke salad. Mary had the Calamari appetizer, that was huge. Braised Lamb shank over a mushroom risotto for me. To put it into perspective, my wife Mary makes a superb lamb shank and outrageous mushroom risotto and takes it personally when anyone rates someone else's as better. She has actually consented and acknowledged these to be superior, enough said. Finished with a decent baklava but unbelievable Turkish coffee. Juan Valdez, step aside, this is coffee. A spacious turkish restaurant tucked away in North Center. We came here for 6pm dinner on a Sunday evening with a reservation but did not end up needing it since the restaurant was not busy. We ordered Flaming Saganaki Cheese (not pictured) Hankar Begendi & Manti. The cheese came out Flaming just like the name says & that was a cool start to the meal. The cheese was squeaky, light, & I enjoyed the bread, lemon, fig jam & coleslaw like salad to enjoy it with. Everything was flavorful but the quantity lacked. I've been to a few turkish restaurants now & as a meat lover, I felt like the dishes lacked that. The portion are one the smaller end. A family favorite nicerish spot. It's casual enough for anything but a good meal when you want one. The dip that comes with the bread is one of my favorites, the risotto presidente is also super good, and the flaming cheese is chef's kiss. Good selection of wines to pair and extremely kind staff. My boyfriend and I came here back in February for Valentine's Day dinner. We enjoyed it here! There were heart-shaped balloons all over the ceiling and candlelight on the table - very nice Valentine's Day atmosphere. I got Hunkar Begendi (Sultan's Delight) and my boyfriend got Seafood Tagliatelle Pasta. Both were good! The Hunkar Begendi was essentially mashed eggplants topped with lamb. It was very flavorful. Though it was a small portion for the price and I wish it had some greens at least. They served us their complimentary homemade bread and sauce which made up for it. Better for a smaller affair. A friend had a party of almost 30. Surprisingly this place had the space for it, which doesn't initially seem possible from looking in, but there is a second wing of the restaurant. However, they did not properly staff for our party. We had a single server for nearly 30 people. There were several assistants running food, but there was only one server who could answer questions or take orders. She did her best and she was awesome but it just felt they were under prepared for a group of our size, which would have been forgivable had their marketing not been pushing the "great for events and groups" message. The prices here are a bit daunting and there is really only one option for food specific to group dining, the meat platter that serves 4. But they should really develop more plated seating options for large groups if they're going to market themselves as a group dining venue. Instead, everything here is a la carte. For me, the more expensive something is, the more it has to wow me. Although I enjoyed the food, it wasn't proportionate to the cost. I originally budgeted to spent about $85, however all the dishes I was excited about had scallops, which they were out of, as it is very popular. I do appreciate the fact that their food is fresh and probably purchased in small batches to maintain quality. But it's always a sad day when missing out on scallops. So instead I went the more economical route and had the turquoise salad with beef kabob. It was bright, vibrant and flavorful. Very fresh tasting. Arugula, candied walnuts, spiced pears. Delightful. I asked for medium rare and was concerned at first that it was closer to rare, but it was tender and well seasoned so I didn't mind. Another guest at the table asked for well done and had to send it back to cook more. (But thats their fault for ruining gold meat by wanting it well done!) While I felt a bit lacking that I didn't have rice, I think the arugula was a good choice. I originally ordered the saganaki but they brought it out very fast and not aflame, with a burnt spot on top...which is not typical of saganaki. I asked if they were going to light it and they took it away as if they made a mistake. Then brought another one already on fire instead of lighting it tableside...but it looked like the same one they brought the first time. Nothing was sizzling, despite the flame and it was dry and crumbly and not melty at all. I hate sending food back but I couldn't eat it. It came with a sort of spiced peach side (though the menu said pepper jelly?) that was nice, but I didn't understand the relation to pepper jelly. I had mentioned a couple times that I wanted dessert and Turkish coffee when I placed my order because others at the table were trying to figure out how we would be paying. A nightmare, and God bless the waitress for putting up with us, honestly. But I had my order and my math all ready to go. But despite telling me she'd take my dessert order when the time came, it never happened, they brought checks without revisiting dessert. So despite budgeting for $85 I ended up spending $45. So I honestly can't really complain (though I know I just did, I must be honest). I might come back for a fancy date, or perhaps on someone else's dime, but I likely would not book a party here again. If I ever have a taste for a tender steak, though, I probably would come back for the beef kabob because it really was the highlight of the meal. read more

Best Falafel Ever! Seriously. The y have changed the menu and it is so good. Get the Mezza Platter and dive into each taste and enjoy. Great cocktails, Right on Roscoe so fun stuff all around for after dinner. Wine on the tables are 1/2 price so ask for it. The front of the restaurant can be cold when it is Chicago-y outside. I've been to many Turkish spots around Chicagoland but none of them had mantı. Turquoise however did, and it was delicious! Also tried their mercimek çorba (lentil soup). Finished off with some Turkish tea. The service was good. Was there around a quiet time maybe 4pm. What I didn't care for was the country/Christian music that was playing. I made reservations for my friends and I on a Sunday morning. We did their brunch menu. I believe brunch is only on Sunday from 10am-2pm. For $28/person you get soooo much! The pic is what you get and there still were 2 more dishes coming out as I took the pic! Everything was delicious! I like how tea or coffee is included as well. The staff were nice and our waitress Ada was great! She answered all my questions and even told me some interesting fun facts about Turkey ;). There's free street parking. I co-hosted a bridal shower for ~30 people at Turquoise and it turned out great. The owner, Ezgi, was so easy to work with. The buffet lunch was plentiful and delicious. We had so many different foods to choose from including: cheeses, eggplant salad, hummus, delicious bread, homemade jams, crepes, cheese spring rolls & potato pastries, menemen, chicken kabobs and more. The space worked well for our party and they let us bring in a cake from outside (they did charge a fee to plate and serve it for us). Love this place! It's got all the charm and taste you want in a local restaurant. Eaten on the patio, inside and ordered dinner to go... doesn't matter who's helping you, their always super friendly. went for lunch with an old friend there on Friday right at opening and had a lovely meal. the service was very nice from our server, Miné, and the all the items of food were very tasty. the only downside was the rice, which felt a bit overcooked/dry, but the rest of the food made up for it! i had Turkish tea throughout the meal, and we ordered the falafels as a starter. the food came with carrot spread and bread which was tasty and the falafels were flavourful and the cabbage salad that came with it was great. i had the adana kebab plate which was excellent! just slightly spicy (i could have used more!) and my friend had the chicken kebabs which also looked tasty. the space was cute and cozy and would definitely be back for a dinner vibe after dark. we were also offered some baklava on the house at the end of the meal which were truly delicious. but i will be back because i saw a kazandibi on the menu and those are one of my favs! read more

First time eating at a Turkish restaurant and overall had a pretty decent meal. The menu seemed to be mostly mediterranean with some Turkish specialties listed in the main course section. Basically, came to this restaurant solely because they have Lahmacun (Turkish Pizza - crispy thin flat dough, ground lamb, arugula, tomato, and lemon), which is similar to Lahmajoon (Armenian Pizza). The Doctor is 100% Armenian and introduced this is me, so I love it. Turns out Turquoise has a lot more to offer than just the pizza. The restaurant itself presents two faces. The side you go into to check in with the hostess looks more like a basic take out restaurant, with simple four top tables and not much in the way of atmosphere. We were taken into another room (fortunately) that was lovely. Great lighting and seating, the overall feel is 180 degrees different from the room next door. We were presented as a starter with a complimentary fresh baked bread and carrot dip. Like some of the other reviewers, we had to stop from eating the whole basket to not fill up before we had even ordered our meal. We started with the Grilled Calamari, which came with double-baked potatoes, cherry tomatoes, capers, bell peppers, radishes, salsa verde and basil oil. Very different preparation for me but loved it. Was surprised that the flavors blended so well as I would not have thought about salsa verde in a Turkish dish. We also got the Lahmacun (Turkish Pizza) and that was very good too. A different preparation from the Armenian style, but none the less very good. There was also a charcuterie board that was pretty good. For dinner I got the Ossobuco alla Milanese (slow roasted and braised beef shank over creamy polenta and parmesan gremolata). Totally wonderful dish and fell in love with this. I would love to try some of their other dishes, but not sure I can get pass not ordering this one. The meat was very tender, just falling off of the bone and wonderfully favorable. The Queen got the Colorado Lamb Shank (slow roasted and braised lamb shank over vegetable risotto). The lamb was very good, but I would have preferred the polenta instead of the risotto, but that is not a knock against the preparation of the dish. I myself am not a big lover of risotto. The Doctor got the traditional chicken kebob and cleaned his plate. Because I checked into Yelp, we got a free dessert of Backlava. I didn't have any as that is a dessert that is too sweet for me, but The Doc and Queen ate it just fine. There is a cute outdoor area if you want to eat outside and there is plenty of street parking. We had a wonderful time here and would definitely return. They do take reservations but make sure you check to see what events that are going on as they are on Roscoe, so any events that require street closures means you have to walk through the crowds to get there and parking is a nightmare, but that meal made up for it. Also we had the most amazing server, believe his name was Mohammed. He was so personable and fun to talk to, he made the visit fun and he was on top of things. read more

This place was my first time trying Turkish food, and it was a very pleasant experience! The wait staff was very patient and explained a lot of the menu and describing which dishes were the most authentic and recommended favorites accordingly. I felt well accommodated and learned a lot especially being a rookie with Turkish food. I do think prices lean a bit on the pricier side however--you can probably get cheaper and similar food with other restaurants that specialize in the cuisine in this region. Food: French onion soup: really really good, was a nice, warm, cheesy soup perfect for the cold Lentil soup: personally I'm not a big fan of lentils but this was delicious Turquoise salad: nice and light, had a nice assortment of vegetables Sultan's Delight: this was their most authentic dish, it was heavy and the flavors were distinct and unique, personally my palette wasn't antiquated with this dish but I'm sure if you're from the region this tastes great! read more

We happened upon this place early in the evening, looking to try something new, and everyone enjoyed the food. What an unexpected treat! Turkish food is delicious. We tried several different sorts of dishes, from salad to chicken, seafood, pasta, and a Turkish specialty called something like Fainting Priest, which involved stuffed eggplant. Each dish was presented beautifully and tasted good. It is an upscale (aka not cheap) place, but we had no wait and managed to find free street parking right in the same block, so that was great. Our midweek lunch was an unexpected, yet pleasant "private" event since this restaurant is far enough from Chicago's major business districts to get few dine-in patrons at that time of day. Lunch call-ins for pickup and delivery were brisk throughout our time there. The one person handling both dine-in and call-in customers was gracious and very good at her job. The food was outstanding. There was complimentary bread with a creamy carrot spread. For appetizers, we had hot zucchini fritters with tzatziki sauce and flaming cheese that came with a fruit honey. Our entrees were beef tenderloin kebab and salmon kebab, both plated with rice, seasoned and grilled onions, potato wedges, cabbage salad, and more freshly made tzatziki sauce. Both the beef and the salmon were perfectly cooked to our specification. The Turkish coffee and Turkish tea were delicious. Refills were offered for both. We will return. read more

The ambiance is cozy and comfortable. The service was great, server overhead we were not happy with the bread because it was dry and almost burnt and brought us a fresh one! I'm not sure if I had very high expectations but food was missing some flavor but also please note this is my first Turkish restaurant! It was my first experience with Turkish food. My only regret is that instead of the Lahmacun, I took the Beet Quinoa Salad. As an appetizer, I started with hummus and a slice of bread, which were delicious. After that, I moved on to the main dish, the salad. It was good (especially the goat cheese - so creamy and soft), but I was a little upset that the beet was bland. It usually has a sweet taste. Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture of their Kazandibi, but this dessert will absolutely be remembered for a long time because its taste reminded me something I ate as a child. Made reservations just in case but luckily we were there early enough that it wasn't really necessary. During this visit noticed that the staff was very helpful very courteous and patient with us as we were navigating through the menu. My dinner company had been here once before. All the food was very delicious well seasoned fair portions also and quite enjoyable. We were not rushed and the place did end up filling up. Highly suggest checking out this delicious find! This night I was catching up with a friend, and we ordered several items to share. Each dish was delicious, and I plan on returning to explore more of the menu. Upon entry I was thinking it was going to be a quiet and moody environment; but turn the corner and it was a brightly lit dining space. Not to mention that they had live music. I'd rate service 4.5 out of 5 because there were sometimes when we needed the waiter. Overall I'd highly suggest checking out Turquoise.
