Adjaruli khachapuri- SO GOOD
Katrina M.

I made sure to make this the last dinner I had before moving out of Chicago because I had to get the Georgian cheese bread one more time. The khachapuri is so delicious here, the main reason I came back. The staff has been great to me both times I've come and the food was delicious again. I enjoyed their hummus and atom for appetizers. The shrimp à la marina was so good I almost didn't want to share! Glad I got to introduce my parents to this place

Pita and hummus - excellent
Ashley L.

Came for dinner. Our family shared pita and hummus to start, which was the best I've ever had. The pita was fresh and soft, and the hummus was creamy. So much of the menu appealed to me, and I don't go out for Mediterranean often, so it was super difficult to choose a meal (family style would have been ideal but with Mediterranean we couldn't have more diverse preferences). So I ended up opting for two small/lighter dishes to have my own tasting: the mini eggplant roulades and soup (I tried to order the chicken meatball on the menu, but they only had butternut squash). The mini eggplant roulades were just DEVINE. So unique and so fresh. The soup was really good - since it wasn't on the menu I had no description when ordering - it ended up having some curry spice which isn't my favorite (specifically cumin) but still enjoyed it. Our server was really friendly, originally from Turkey and was receptive to my parents' excitement over our upcoming trip to Istanbul. We weren't rushed on a weekend evening. The restaurant was really nice and pleasant atmosphere. A little more upscale than I was expecting. I would absolutely love to go back here and try more of the menu. Although I know the struggle would be real to not repeat the eggplant roulades.

Interior of Oda!

I was pleasantly surprised by Oda! Everything from the cocktails to dessert was impeccable. I had the babaganoush (some of the best I've ever had), short ribs and baklava. Can't recommend this cozy place enough!

Burrata salad

Cute place and amazing food. Friendly welcoming staff with great food recommendations. Had fresh burrata salad to start, with a lovely glass of Doremi Saperavi red wine. Moved towards their Spanish Octopus main course. Had to try their Oda Adjaruli Khachapuri but was too full to finish. Had to also try a dessert and had their Kazandibi pudding, which reminded me of my grandmother's tembleque. Definitely have to come visit again. Worth the visit.

I was excited to try this restaurant but it left me wanting more. We split the meat platter which was mostly good except the steak was overcooked. The dessert we order had too much cheese that it taste more cheesy than savory. Looks pretty though

Baklava

This was my first time trying this place out. I've been craving baklava so I gave them a try and I will say it's pretty fire. So good! I'm glad I placed two orders b/c they do run kinda small. Overall great customer service & will be coming back.

I had such an incredibly lovely meal here. Alec couldn't have been kinder and more solicitous; the interior is hip but neighborhood-friendly, the food is familiar but adventurous-adjacent. Ok, the food. Absolutely delicious and fresh and healthy and novel and made with care etc etc. This is a gem: they want you to love it, everything is superlative from service to food to atmosphere.

Spinach pkhali
Jen S.

We only got takeout here, but since I spent about 5-10 minutes waiting to pick it up while the host dealt with a reservation issue, I had a chance to look around a bit and soak up the ambience. Inside, the restaurant is a warm and inviting space with wooden decor and comfy-looking seats. As for the food, it was surprisingly good. Not that I had low expectations, but my order -- falafel and shepherd's salad -- was not especially adventurous. Still, Oda delivered a tasty combination of flavors, serving the crisp falafel in a thin layer of smooth hummus and chopped parsley, and tossing the vegetables in a light coating of olive oil and pomegranate reduction. I also tried the spinach pkhali, which others had recommended. I was not as impressed with this dish -- it's served cold, and the spinach part was a bit overpowering for my tastes -- but everyone else finished theirs, so I guess I was in the minority. As far as northside restaurants go, this probably ranks in my top 10. Worth a return visit for sure.

But I think the star of the show was the Kebabs, easily the largest and juiciest kabobs I've ever had. The spice mix on it was subtle but by no means lacked taste. And the Khinkali were grade A. I want to get them every time. It is a really nice looking place and the only bummer is they are only open a few days a week, so when I visit I don't always get to go. I would say the food is expensive but not overpriced. We had 3-4 orders of kebabs that fed 6 people and had leftovers. The salad was a nice pickled-type slaw and paired well with the meat. The long grained seasoned rice was fluffy but dense. We ordered three different types of the dumplings. The meat ones tasted the same but the mushroom had a nice unique flavor-- definitely savory! We ordered the fruit tea. I realized too late I should've waited for a bit and allowed it to seep longer because the first cup tasted very diluted. The second cup was much better, more flavorful, in addition, I also added a packet of sugar. The traditional bread was also a favorite. It was fried but soft, airy in the center. Dipping in the cheese/butter like dip was fantastic. So addicting! The restaurant is very narrow. Not a lot of space and seating. Staff was very accommodating to make space for our table of 5. Tucked unassumingly in a shopping mall in Mundelein, Ararat is a tiny hidden gem. With only about an 8 table dining room, it is a cozy, intimate venue, with a huge and amazing menu, featuring Armenian cuisine. A party of 4, we ordered drinks, 3 appetizers, and an entree for each of us. The portions were generous, delicious, and we probably over-ordered by at least one appetizer, but we wanted to sample and share as many dishes as possible. We began with glasses of tasty Armenian apricot wine. Our appetizers came out in sequence rather than all at once, starting with Italian Lady's Fingers. A mixed salad of cooked bell peppers, nuts, onion and prunes. Very good. Next we were served Khorovats, Armenian style grilled eggplant . Also an excellent dish. Last was beef and lamb dumplings, Khinkili. One of these large, juicy dumplings could have been almost half a meal by itself. I've tried khinkili in a number of restaurants, and these were the best I've eaten. Our entrees were Steak Kebab, Lamb Kebab, Lamb Rice Pilaf, and Frikasse, a chicken, mushroom, vegetable in sour cream sauce dish. All were very good, and were were saddened that we were all too full to try any of their baked goods desserts. The meal was excellent, the small dining room comfy and the service very good. One word of caution: If you plan to dine here you must be patient. Dishes were served as they were prepared, and apparantly little if anything is prepared in advance. The advantage is hot, fresh, and tasty dishes. The disadvantage is that there was a 10 minute delay between service of the 1st and 4th entree. We were in no hurry, so we did not mind. Also we were sharing our selection. For a casual, relaxed, delicious dining adventure I highly recommend Ararat.

I got the afternoon tea service ($69), and it was an absolutely lovely experience. The afternoon tea service was served on a three-tier tower. On top were 2 scones - a plain one and a peach one. They came with cream and jam. Both scones were great with the cream and jam. The middle tier came with a couple of savory things, and this tier was definitely my favorite. There was an egg salad sandwich, a cucumber & tomato sandwich, a grilled chicken sandwich on a beet roll, a smoked salmon sandwich on a multigrain roll, and a chicken salad croissant sandwich. I thought all of the sandwiches were delicious, especially the cucumber sandwich and grilled chicken on a beet roll. And on the bottom were a bunch of little desserts - a cup of strawberry mousse, a slice of lime & mango cake, a tiramisu cupcake, an edible chocolate cup filled with cake & whipped cream, and an apple Danish pastry. Everything was scrumptious, and I ate it all up. The afternoon tea service comes with your choice of tea, and I opted for the house tea, which was served in a pretty glass cup and came with endless refills. The house tea was a nice fruit tea with a slight sweetness, and I sure took advantage of the endless refills, lol. The tea came with a cup filled with both brown & white sugar cubes. What really stood out to me was the fantastic service. All of the staff were incredibly kind and friendly. They checked up on me often, and both my glass of water and glass of tea were rarely empty. The afternoon tea service is certainly not cheap, but in my opinion, it's worth every penny. It was enough food for two and WAY more than enough for a solo diner. I left the restaurant absolutely stuffed. Note - the restaurant adds a 3% service charge to all checks. You can have it removed upon request.

We came for lunch, the decor is cute Soviet and it has a very formal feel throughout. They had several menus including the lunch/dinner menu and a tea time menu. The first thing that jumped out at us is how expensive everything is. We ended up ordering the meat sampler platter for 2, which was a lot of food! First they bring out the appetizers which includes 5 different spreads/salads, 2 dumplings with meat (pelmeni), and 2 dumplings with potatoes (vareniki). I really enjoyed the beet salad and the Korean carrots. The vareniki were flavorful and the dough was a perfect texture. Additionally, they brought out 3 entrees: a stuffed cabbage roll (galubets), a beef/mushroom stroganoff dish, and a chicken kebab plate with rice and buckwheat. The stroganoff was my favorite; rich, creamy, and well seasoned. The kebab and accompaniments were also well seasoned and tasty. For me, the galubets was not good; the sauce was too thin and the meat inside was grainy and too sweet. Very fun Soviet experience with great service, but not sure I would go back considering the prices. They also add a service fee (which is not considered the tip).
