What a lovely place to go for dinner!!! I wasn't totally sure if I'd like it because I'm not the biggest fan of French food, but this place is French/Mediterranean fusion so they have a mix of different great dishes. Amazing happy hour deals too, we were able to order the limoncello, mussels, and french onion soup for half the price. All the dishes were delish. I think the smashed potatoes were my fave. Our waitress was SO sweet and attentive. The atmosphere was lovely too/not too loud, we sat outside. Overall 10/10 experience! I'd totally come back again. read more

It pains me to say this because I have genuinely had a love affair with Le Sud for years, but my relationship with this restaurant is officially over, at least under the current management. Over the last several months, I have had multiple uncomfortable interactions with the current manager, and each time I have left feeling like my business was more of an inconvenience than something the restaurant actually wanted. I made a reservation for one specifically because I wanted to avoid some of the awkwardness that has occurred during my previous visits. I arrived for my reservation and was about to be seated on the patio when the manager approached the server who was seating me and questioned him about what he was doing. He then told the server that I should not be seated at a four-top because I was dining alone. To be clear, I did not select the table. The restaurant selected the table and was in the process of seating me there. I wasn't asking for a particular table, I wasn't late, and I wasn't trying to take a table away from a large party. The restaurant was also nowhere near full. There were plenty of open tables both inside and outside. The server then asked if I would be willing to sit inside instead. I explained that I had specifically planned to sit on the patio. At that point, because the manager was standing there and the entire situation had already created an uncomfortable experience, I decided it simply wasn't worth it and left. As I was outside, the server came after me, apologized, and said that if I wanted to come back in, they could seat me. I sat down but after 10 minutes, I decided to leave. After leaving, I actually came back about 10 minutes later because I decided I owed it to myself to address the issue directly with the manager rather than simply leave frustrated. I explained to the manager that I felt it was unprofessional to allow a customer to arrive for a reservation, begin being seated, and then intervene in front of them to tell the server that the customer shouldn't be seated at that table. If there are specific seating preferences or restrictions regarding tables, that should be figured out before the customer is being walked to the table. It should not become the customer's problem after the fact. I also explained that this wasn't about today's interaction alone. It was the accumulation of multiple experiences over the past several months. I went from being someone who visited almost every week to someone who barely wants to come anymore because I don't want to deal with the feeling that I'm somehow inconveniencing the restaurant by being there. The manager apologized, but then qualified the apology by saying "if" he made me feel that way. He then made a point of saying that his behavior was not discriminatory because, as he is a minority, as he pointed to his skin color. I found that response equally unprofessional. Whether or not someone intends to make a customer feel unwelcome does not change the experience the customer is having. And pointing to one's own identity as evidence that their behavior could not possibly be discriminatory does nothing to address the actual concern being raised. I also didn't make mention of race, I just said in all the years that I've come here, I've never seen it happen to anyone else and it's happened me me 4 times this summer. I wasn't asking him to agree with my interpretation of his behavior. I was explaining a repeated pattern and how it has affected my experience as a longtime customer. I also previously wrote to the restaurant about my concerns a couple of months ago and never received a response. So unfortunately, I don't have much confidence that this review will result in anything either. That's the most disappointing part of all of this. I really liked Le Sud. I wanted to continue coming here. I have years of positive experiences with this restaurant. I don't expect special treatment. I expect the same basic courtesy any paying customer should receive: to make a reservation, be seated appropriately, enjoy my meal, and leave. Unfortunately, I didn't get to have my meal today. read more

We were so excited to try Le Sud! Unfortunately, both the food and experience with staff were very disappointing. The air conditioning was out when we walked in, and there was an oppressive heat inside. We had a reservation for the patio and one of the hostess' walked us to open tables outside, said she was confused, and walked us back to the front. She then asked the main hostess where to seat us, and she said anywhere. She proceeded to say hang on, and walked back and assessed where we could sit, looking confused and taking her time thinking. Finally, she brought us back to the exact table we stopped at the first time. Our waiter was kind and lovely. We ordered drinks and food at the same time, and the drinks came promptly. We were shocked at how quickly the food came out, just a couple of minutes after our drinks. We ordered steak frites and the vegetable linguine, both of which were very bland and had no seasoning. The steak was some of the worst I've had, given the lack of flavor. It was my birthday, and my husband tried calling the restaurant to update the reservation and let them know. Then he let both the hostess and a staff member know, and we watched other folks receive birthday desserts. We did not get one and were offered a dessert menu instead. Overall, we thought the restaurant was very cute inside and were so excited for a fun celebration together eating out, but it was an extremely underwhelming meal and we had strange and off putting experiences with staff. read more

Came for happy hour which is definitely one of the best in the city! 4-6pm and drinks are $7, and a wide variety of their food menu is on the hh menu too! Some of the entrees are hh but smaller portions than the full menu so those aren't quite as good of a deal as they seem (i.e the steak frites) but our server was so kind and helped us order and be informed on how it all works! It was our friends bday too and they printed menus with her name. So cute! Favorite dish was the croquettes but I loved the steak frites, burrata, garlic fries, all of it. Really good spritz too. Definitely want to come back in the winter and try the French onion soup! They have a lot of seating indoor and outdoor so it was a good cozy neighborhood vibe. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while and finally....yesterday we went for happy hour! I think this could be the best happy hour in Chicago! I had the French 75 and sparkling wine which were very good! We ordered the ham & cheese croquettes, garlic frites and Garganelli! The ham & cheese croquettes were so yummy and they just melt in your mouth! The food and service were outstanding! I also loved the vibe in the restaurant, so cute! The regular menu is a little pricer for us to add in our regular rotation but we could definitely do a regular HH here for dinner! HH is 4-6 daily!! read more

WOW, what an incredible meal! Everything was absolutely delicious, and such a great deal. We went for an early birthday dinner and took advantage of the Tuesday Dinner Deal ($45 for an appetizer, entrée, and dessert), plus happy hour until 6 PM. Seriously, don't sleep on these deals! The service was outstanding, and every dish was cooked to perfection. I was already telling my husband we need to come back again. Love that we live so close. The escargot and steak frites are an absolute must and the duck breast was incredibly flavorful and perfectly cooked. Can't wait to return! read more

The happy hour selection was varied, delicious and fairly priced as was the wine selection. Mark, our server was informative, pleasant and knowledgeable. All the wait staff was positive. A couple things, this place is FRENCH not Mediterranean. I want to make that clear. The food is very good! We went on a Tuesday night and they had a $45 price fix meal that was one of the best deals in the city. Full size apps, entree (including steak), and dessert. We started with burrata and mussels which were both light and lovely. They could have provided a bit more bread but we also didn't ask so it's a bit on us. Very fast apps and the mussels were cooked beautifully and fully open. I had steak au poivre which was cooked truly medium rare. They came with these smashed golden potatoes which I literally just dreamed about last night. They were SO GOOD. My friend has white fish which looked lovely and shrimp which were quite large. For dessert we got the mango sorbet and the tiramisu. I downed my tiramisu which was good... not incredible, but completely fine. The mango sorbet was almost too mango-ey. So if that's your vibe highly recommend. read more

Cute patio. Friendly staff. Killer happy hour. I came to Le Sud to catchup with some family and was pleasantly surprised. The patio is everything you want on a summer afternoon and their happy hour specials were amazing (like almost half off the regular prices, albeit different portions). The food was good (I had the steak frites) and the cocktails were good but a little sweet on the happy hour menu. I will definitely be back and would argue that Le Sud is worth an afternoon trip to Roscoe Village. read more

What a delightful evening! The restaurant's decor is charming and currently offering a fun Halloween vibe without being overbearing. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated. Our server, Neal, was exceptional! So knowledgeable and helpful but again, not overly so- just enough to make our ordering experience great. I started with the autumn burrata - out of this world! My husband had the escargot and they were delicious (and he's a snail snob!). I had the barramundi and he the steak/frites and again, both dishes were perfectly prepared. We ended sharing a tiramisu and a lava cake and both were decadently delicious. We will be back! read more

Love this neighborhood staple. Just keep those pesky "influencers" that aren't aware of other guests while filming themselves enjoying free food away. It dilutes the experience. read more

Everything was great. Food tasted like I was in France (and I've been there 13 times!). Service was excellent and loved the vibe. I had escargots as an appetizer with chicken as a main course, and my wife ordered the fish. Loved the food, and great cocktails. We'll be back. read more

Blown away by this cutesy restaurant in Roscoe Village. My husband surprised me with a Friday evening reservation day before Valentine's Day. We did the 3 course meal, escargot, mussels, roasted chicken, seared barramundi, creme brûlée, bread pudding, few glasses of sangria. Service , food and vibe were all perfect and we needed this alone time. Keep up the excellent standards and we will back for sure!! read more

This was one of the establishments that had all "big 3" (food, service and ambiance). We went during happy hour on a hot weekday and it was just right amount of people. They also have kids menu with a little different options than usual which I love. read more

The ambiance was really cute. Our battery died for our candle/light on our table, but we didn't mind. The service was great and we were checked on frequently. The food was really good. Even something as simple as a French onion soup was really delicious! I got the lamb since it's notoriously difficult to cook lamb well and it was incredibly juicy and well cooked! The crème brûlée was also incredible! read more

I've hosted several Chicago Literary Salon events at restaurants around the city, and Le Sud provided the best service we've experienced. From the planning process to the night of the event, the staff was warm, attentive, and incredibly organized, making everything feel effortless. Our guests couldn't stop talking about how delicious the food was, and the beautiful atmosphere made for the perfect setting for an intimate author event. I can't recommend Le Sud highly enough and look forward to hosting another event here! read more

French inspired restaurants possess a certain level of flirty vibes. We went to Le Sud for Restaurant Week. Luckily, the staff left Valentine's Day decorations during the event. This added to the quaintness of Le Sud. Joseph ordered the lamb cut. He said it tasted fine. I ordered the salmon with vegetables. This fine cuisine tasted divine. The salmon came with sliced tomatoes, olives and cucumbers. We needed our meal with a New York cheesecake. Delicious. When in town, come to Le Sud. Highly recommend to bring dates, family and friends. read more

We sat outside on Wednesday and enjoyed the prix fixe menu. The service was very competent and attentive. The food was delicious. It was not only a good value, but a very pleasant experience. Our first visit to Le Sud was wonderful. Low-key vibe, lovely environment. Food options were exceptional. The special watermelon & feta salad was fresh and delicious. My husband scored a happy hour price ($17) for steak/frites, which was cooked to order and very flavorful. The pan-seared barramundi w/fondant potatoes and herbed butter sauce was fabulous. We took a slice of the dark chocolate layer cake special home. Our server Mark was knowledgeable and professional. We look forward to returning soon. read more

Put down your Satre and pick up your fork. This charming bistro is swinging much higher than its weight class. This is probably the nicest restaurant in Roscoe Village. The venue is super cool and unique--really big space with 2 floors and interesting decor. Came here for brunch & was satisfied, especially with the crispy potatoes. Get the crispy potatoes! You won't regret it!! The egg shawarma was a tasty and healthy dish. My boyfriend and I both liked it, however, my boyfriend's shakshuka was not great. Not bad but definitely had much better shakshuka--we both agreed. The tomatoes should've been cooked longer to give the dish a deeper flavor. My mocktail, the green tea gimlet, was super tasty! It always fascinates me how places can get their mocktails to taste like there's booze in it. However, I want to come here for dinner to try their main menu to be able to give it a fair rating. read more

We made a reservation for a Sunday at 12pm for 6 people and were seated right away. The atmosphere is lively and cute. The main floor had Valentine's Day decor and felt very festive/would've been a cute date spot to celebrate. Food wise, I liked my burger but it was a little small. Get the brunch side of bacon - it was 3 large pieces of thick cut bacon that was very worth the price!! The shakshouka was small, and had a lot of raw tomatoes (we expected them to be cooked more into a sauce) - honestly I'd pass on it. Overall I liked Le Sud - it's not too far from where we live and the service + vibe was nice. The food was a little hit or miss depending on what you ordered. Overall I'd come back! read more

I always pass by Le Sud since it's on the bike route I frequent. It was great. We chose the restaurant week menu for Valentine's Day. Tye interior is warm and inviting and so is the interior and decor. They got a little festive for Valentine's Day. I had the French onion soup and lamb shank. Everything was honestly cooked perfect and balanced. The lamb shank meat fell off the bone it was so tender and also saturated with the right amount of spices to accentuate the flavors of the meat. Everything was great. Service was attentive, receptive, and friendly. Definitely recommend. read more

I went here with friends for a late Saturday brunch on a beautiful day and it did not disappoint. The patio is perfect for sitting outside in the summer and the decor inside feels very Mediterranean and French elegance. Got the quiche and it was perfectly cooked, extremely fluffy and paired with a fresh salad. All of my friends loved the option they got from the frittata to the French toast and crispy potatoes. I will be coming back again! We came here for Restaurant Week 2025 and got their dinner course for $45. We tried the lamp lollipops, croquettes, and lamb meatballs for appetizers. All of them were wonderful but my favorite was the croquette. For entrees, we got the goat, crab spag, and steak & frites. I enjoyed the steak & frites because the fries were super light and crispy, and the steak was cooked perfectly and served with a herb butter. My friends loved their goat and crab spag so I would recommend those! For dessert, we tried both the cheesecake and chocolate lava cake. The staff was very friendly and helpful when explaining what we were eating. I love the interior as well. Since we came in February, the restaurant was decorated for Valentine's Day. My boyfriend and I were in town visiting friends for a long weekend. I've been to Chicago too many times to count but we always stay in Lakeview East - which is my favorite neighborhoods in Chicago. My friends just moved to Roscoe Village and they love it out there - they talk about Le Sud very highly, so we know we had to go. I would make sure when you go on a Friday night that you book a resy - we had a table of six. We started with the Tirokafteri which was this spicy feta dip and it was amazing. We wanted to find the dupe recipe as soon as we left the restaurant. The service was great, I wish I remembered the name of the server. I ordered the steak & frites, the steak was cooked to medium rare perfection. The frites were ok, nothing special but nothing bad. I would come here again just for the Tirokafteri. The food was outstanding, they have a unique mix of menu items and every single dish we tried was delicious. I didn't get as much of the typical Mediterranean sense (based on the name of this place), it had a blend of food and decor styles that built a nice dining atmosphere. We ate inside as it was super hot out, but they have a nice patio and a cool upper roof patio as well. Service was on top of it, we had a team of servers pitching in for our table that really made the experience great. read more

Went to Le Sud with 3 of my friends for their restaurant week menu! With this you each get a small plate, large plate, and desert. I got the octopus, filet mignon, and bread pudding. The steak was cooked perfectly and the aioli with the octopus married perfectly together. Enzo had the Iberian pork which was truly out of this world. I think this was my favorite dish of the night.
