I have strong mixed opinions about Cellar Door Provisions, especially because I really wanted to love this place. I found Cellar Door via the Bib Gourmand, and it certainly is a great value. Most of the items were phenomenal, the craftsmanship is excellent. The service is more professional than usual restaurants at this price, though à la carte it feels more like a tasting. The wine list is unique and we enjoyed our choices. The space is small and intimate, perfect for a date night. Unfortunately this was the worst burger I've had in Chicago, it really tasted like the patty was boiled. The flavor was a bit bland, I honestly wonder if the burger I received was a mistake.

Quite surprised how small the portions are. The hanger steak was two thin strips of beef. I bet it was maybe 5 ounces. That's partially driving the three stars. Also, they were out of bread at 8:30pm. What the hell? How? So many sauces a nothing to so them up with. They even had a main course dish that used the bread which they said we could order but why would you if the bread is one of the main ingredients. Our server was seems grumpy an barely came to the table. My glass of wine was child sized also. For $14 give me a decent pour please. Th dessert was amazing. We got a flourless chocolate cake. The other couple we were with decided to order one to go so the husband could eat it off the wife when they got home. TMI? Maybe. But also that damn good. I really did enjoy the flavors and I'd like to go back, but if they are out of bread next time I'm getting up and leaving.

Second fancy Friday in Logan! We came here just get drinks and desserts. This bib gourmand has been on my list for a very long time and I was excited to check it out. Interesting vibes? Definitely very Logan Square in the sense that it's pretty bare bones inside and feels kind of pretentious, but is trying not to be? We split all three desserts and something to know about this place. Is they rotate the menu sometimes daily but mainly weekly. The desserts change monthly. We got the ice cream special, the chocolate cake, and the Panna cotta. The ice cream was definitely our favorite because the flavor was incredibly unique and almost buttery. Genuinely when you ate this ice cream it just felt so good in your mouth. I've never been a huge Panna cotta person and this kind of confirmed it. Again, good and very creamy, but it had a lot of olive oil on it, which made it more of a savory dessert. Chocolate cake was solid, but nothing crazy- I could make this. Also got the Saka batch martini yeah, I understand that this is a yeah, I understand that this is an organic wine bar, but I simply feel like they could offer more cocktails? Service was good, quick and kind. Yeah, am I going to come back for dinner? Honestly, no. It's just not my type of place but I'm glad that I tried it and checked it off the list.

This is one of those restaurants that feels like going out in Chicago, a quintessential colder month place. You walk in roughed up from the weather, all disheveled, suddenly you're in this intimate haven with low lights, fogged windows, glasses of wine, people are happy, huddled around close and laughing. The menu is adventurous and rotating, celebrating whatever's seasonal. On my trip about this time last year, we ordered the delicata squash, a beautiful plate of oysters, and tortelloni; all made with care. They also have a burger, which seems to be a bit of a safety net when experimenting isn't your jam, or budget (Pro tip: don't ask for cheese on it -- they may have a burger, but this just isn't that kind of place! ) Michelin Bib Gourmand is always exciting to hear.

I really wanted to love this place, it was good but my partner and I won't be hurrying back. Highlights: service was excellent! The second our plates were empty they were bussed, and when we poured the last drop of water it was immediately refilled. Our server was attentive and very knowledgeable. Food was good, but there wasn't a stand out dish for us and a few of the dishes were on the salty side. The bread was phenomenal and the beets had a lovely combination of sweet, sour and savory flavors. The gnocchi texture was delightful, but the dish was overly salty for our taste. The pig ear salad was very unique, but not something my partner or I enjoyed. The almond cake was delicious, but the presentation was a bit of a turnoff for us. Drink menu is limited, but we knew that going in. The restaurant is small and they will try to get you out within 2 hours so they can turn tables. Overall, we're glad we tried it but were a little underwhelmed given our expectations and the restaurant ratings. Fun dining experience with trying with excellent service. We appreciate they add 3% to support their staff! The menu changes regularly so perhaps we just caught this place on an off week.

Decided to give this place another try for my birthday yesterday after a miscommunication on their end a few years led to us arriving for my birthday dinner only to find they were closed for a private event. Food and wine were good, but once we ordered our food our server essentially forgot about us. We regularly had to flag someone down for wine and water refills. After we had been sitting for a while with empty plates and glasses, it was clear another reservation for our table had arrived but we hadn't been offered dessert or drinks yet. Once we flagged someone down so we could order dessert, we suddenly existed to the staff as we were regularly checked in on to the point of us feeling rushed. I would've felt bad if their dinner was delayed because we had overstayed our welcome, but had our server remembered our table and offered us dessert or drink refills in a timely manner, we would've completed our experience in time for the next group. Despite the menu being framed as family style, the portions are quite small and not presented in a way that makes the food easily shareable along a group of three. They also have pretty minimal non-alcoholic options- no soda or coffee which is odd for a trendy restaurant in 2025. If you are looking to celebrate a birthday here, they do not offer anything fun in the way of candles on your dessert or even a "happy birthday!" when it's mentioned to your server. Pre-pandemic, we loved this place but as the years have gone by we've become increasingly disappointed with the service, communication, and attention to detail. A bummer as it's a place with great potential.

Mixed feelings on this one. Food quality alone was a five. The flavors were out of this world ..one of the best beef tartare I've ever had in my life, amazing muscles and a beautifully innovative pork chop with Mediterranean olive compote. But there were a few downsides: we arrived early and they told us to go next-door for a wine tasting, but the shop was closed; we were at the last seating we had an 845 reservation and they didn't see us until 9 PM and by the time we placed our order, a third of the menu was out, they were out of the sake martini they were out of the burger they were out of the pork chop... but I will say they did give us a small cut of the pork chop just to try it, which was very kind.

We enjoyed dinner at Cellar Door Provisions. Their preparation style highlights the texture and flavors of each main ingredient. Our favorites were the olives brined in house, and the burger. Service was outstanding. I never enjoy when you sit at a chef's counter and the kitchen team pretends they can't see you. That's awkward. This was very different. The chefs asked us questions about ourselves, and chatted with us. They made us feel incredibly welcome. Dinner was very reasonably priced.

I really wanted to like Cellar Door. I've been looking forward to trying it since I moved to Chicago. So I was elated to grab a reservation on my birthday. Unfortunately, it just didn't live up to the hype. The good: The burger is a must order and was legitimately one of the best burgers I've ever had in my life. (After taking off the large piece of raw Fresno chili pepper that was inedibly spicy.) It's the only reason I gave this place two stars at all. The bad: The service was a little off for the price point. I asked to hear more about some menu items that didn't have descriptions, and our server didn't seem comfortable talking us through them. She basically just read the menu to us. She also didn't seem to know the wine list very well. I like natural wine, but the recommendation she gave didn't really fit the tasting I was told. (I was nervous and said it was fine, but we finished only about 3/4 of the bottle.) Also, two of us got butter knives in our silverware roll, and one person got a steak knife. So when our lamb arrived, we all had to share a steak knife. It was awkward. The ugly: Some of the dishes were almost inedible. The whole roasted onion sounded really exciting but was actually kind of raw. So I ended up with an upset stomach from crunching raw onion slices. (It also wasn't a whole onion's worth, but that's whatever.) We really tried to eat it but left most of it on the plate. The "grilled" mackerel was probably the biggest disappointment. You can see in the picture how big the $28 piece was, compared to the lemon slice. It was also very thin. Only the skin was grilled. The rest was smoked or preserved and so fishy it tasted unpleasant/off. And I love mackerel. We took a tiny taste and left the entire dish there. It seemed like there was only one server for the whole dining room. (Which was quiet but had a nice ambiance.) Some wine refills took several courses to arrive. We wanted to ask about taking the mackerel off our bill since we barely touched it, but it took so long to get our server's attention that we were running late and just needed to go. Our server moved the untouched dish out of the way to set down our bill, but didn't bother to ask why we were leaving with multiple plates of food and glasses of wine still left. Overall, it was a very disappointing $270 birthday meal. They didn't even mention my birthday, which isn't required but would be nice at that price point.

Tried a few new foods while here, lamb tongue and quail, both of which were very delicious. Food overall was fresh and well prepared. Very friendly staff. Place was busy, but felt tended to nonetheless. Appreciated the wine suggestions as well. Will come back again for special occasions! Place was simple yet cozy and inviting.

Our main hobby is dining out. We've been to every Michelin-starred restaurant in Chicago, many of…read morethem multiple times, and we regularly travel specifically to eat at great restaurants around the world. We're not casual diners, and we understand that even excellent restaurants can have an off night. Unfortunately, Atelier was a major miss for us. For more context, we dined at the original Atelier in March 2024 and absolutely loved it, so we came in genuinely excited. First, the positives. The service team was wonderful. Truly lovely people. Delightful, attentive, cheerful, professional, and clearly trying very hard to deliver a great experience. No complaints whatsoever there. The reserve wine pairing was also excellent. Some genuinely unique finds. One rosé in particular made us skeptical when first presented, but it ended up being fascinating and paired beautifully with the dish. In fact, each wine pairing was thoughtfully selected and worked extremely well. Now, the food... and unfortunately, this is where the experience fell apart. The opening four amuse-bouches were flat, boring, and uninspired. The oyster was completely overpowered by fried onion. The "jambalaya" was essentially a bowl of mildly spiced rice. Then a salty muffaletta bite and some pickled vegetables. None of these felt Michelin-worthy, nor did they generate any excitement. The next course, beets, was another miss. They were oddly hard, and again, there was nothing particularly special or memorable about the dish. The kanpachi was very good. But let's be honest, raw fish is hard to screw up. The sauce was nicely done and elevated the dish, but it still didn't feel like a standout moment. The tortellini was fine. Perfectly competent. A salty broth, decent execution... but again, no wow factor. Nothing that made you pause. The walleye itself was excellent. Beautifully cooked. But everything accompanying it felt like it was actively sabotaging the fish. The beans were bizarre. . . some soft, some hard, some crunchy, but none particularly enjoyable. We were told there was cornbread and fermented elements in the dish, but those flavors were completely lost. The smoked duck was very good. No notes. Then came a duck wonton-style preparation, which was also tasty, but structurally this made no sense in the progression of the meal. That should be an appetizer or an earlier supporting course, not the crescendo of the protein sequence. In this style of tasting menu, you expect the protein finale to be something bold and memorable. . . A5 wagyu, quail, lamb, something deeply savory that leaves an impression. Ending that arc with what amounts to a fried wonton felt like going out with a whimper instead of a roar. Desserts didn't recover things. The first was a dry cake. The second, a version of king cake, was slightly better but still entirely forgettable. Then the ambiance. We tend to gravitate toward food-first restaurants with real energy... places like EL Ideas, Schwa, and even the original Atelier. Open kitchens, a sense of movement, a little grit, authenticity, personality. Places where you feel like you're somewhere interesting. This space just felt . . .blah. Wood paneling that gave off a tired 1970s feel, overly understated to the point of feeling generic. Now, sometimes that works if the food absolutely delivers and becomes the focal point. But when the food is average, the room starts feeling average too, and the whole experience just falls flatter. The theme of this menu was: The Crescent City/New Orleans. Maybe other menus here are significantly stronger, and maybe we simply came at the wrong time during an off concept. But based on this experience, this was a big disappointment for us, especially given how much we loved the original Atelier.

Dining at a Michelin-starred restaurant naturally comes with elevated expectations, especially when…read moreit comes to flavor development and culinary complexity. Atelier delivered a solid experience, but one that ultimately felt a bit restrained. The service was attentive and knowledgeable, guiding us through the menu with confidence, while the wine pairing stood out as a strong addition, enhancing several of the courses nicely. When it came to the food, each dish was good and thoughtfully prepared, but many courses felt too simple in execution. The flavors were clean and pleasant, yet they often lacked the depth, layering, and progression you hope to experience throughout a tasting menu. With each new course, I kept anticipating a buildup--something bolder, more intricate, or more surprising--but that moment never quite arrived. The menu did offer an enjoyable journey through different regions, which added variety and interest. Still, while the dishes were well-balanced and enjoyable, they didn't reach the level of complexity or memorability expected at this level.

I finally was seated, and I ordered a Diet Coke which came promptly, then waited at least 15-20 minutes for someone to take my order. My waitress (short, dark hair in a bun) just stood around chatting with other employees, wandering around, etc. I think I was the only customer in the dining room, but they just completely ignored me. I finally walked up to the bar and asked to pay for my diet Coke, as I had no intention of waiting around forever to order food. I probably could have just walked out without paying without them even noticing, given how inattentive the employees were, but I'm too honest to do that. I really hope this was just a one-off and that the service overall hasn't gone downhill consistently over the last 6 months or so.
