We have ordered food to delivery many times. It has been great each in the past. Unfortunately the last time we ordered it was very disappointing. My husband ended up with a bad stomach ache from his dish and my Pad Thai clearly had MSG in it which makes me sick. The best $6.50 Chinese lunch IMO. Its a very clean cozy environment with friendly staff. The portion size is generous and you get a soup, friend rice, spring roll, AND a cheese rangoon! Where do you find the space to pull all this in your stomach? Besides the portions, the taste is classic. I had the orange chicken and the quality chicken they use is better than most places. You can actually see lean cut white meat in the chicken. Batter isn't heavy either. Overall my experience is very positive. Love the crunchy wontons they give as an appetizer. It tasted fresh! My wife ordered NumTuk, as described in the menu, however, the dish was not prepared as ordered. It was not sliced beef, but chopped and tasted like Mongolian flavor (sweet). Oriental J is conveniently located next to I-85 (Hamiliton Rd exit). It is a neatly decorated Chinese, Thai and sushi restaurant. The dishes are closer to fusion American Asian than authentic Asian food; though those we ordered are all very delicious. Service is OK. We waited around for the waitress to stop by for orders and for the checks. It probably because we arrived towards the end of the night. Waitresses are trying to clean up and get ready for another day. Price points, as compared to regular Asian restaurants, are on the high end. If you crave for Asian dishes, Duluth has plenty of quality Asian restaurants for at least 10% cheaper. I was oddly craving egg drop soup and didn't have all the ingredients to make my own. I remembered seeing a coupon (50% off a second entree with purchase of two drinks) for Oriental J, so this is where we decided to go for a late dinner. They advertise as being authentic Asian cuisine, but their menu states otherwise as "Authentic American-Chinese". I'll agree with the latter description. We ordered egg drop soup, honey glazed walnut shrimp, and the salt and pepper deluxe (and two drinks, of course, to be able to use our coupon). The soup was basic, no pizzaz, but it hit the spot. The walnut shrimp was good - crispy from being fried and not overly sweet. The salt and pepper seafood was oddly not as crispy as the walnut shrimp. I found a hair in the walnut shrimp and informed our waitress. As soon as I found it, I lost my appetite, stopped eating and waited for someone to check on our table. The waitress asked why we did not inform her earlier, but honestly, she didn't come back to our table until she presented with us with the check. She initially said they'll discount the entree 50%, to which we declined since we were going to use our coupon anyway, but she ended up taking it off the bill entirely. They handled this particular situation with grace and professionalism. However, overall service could have been better with so many employees and only a few other customers at the restaurant at that time. read more

i love this place. seriously. this is my hometown and i'm a food snob at this point- i've turned my boyfriend into one too and we BOTH love this place (which is high praise). Wanted to order take out for my family and so i ordered kung pao chicken, house lo mein, Mongolian beef, dragon roll, spicy dynamite roll and shrimp tempura roll. All for total of 70 bucks. Pretty pricey in which i wouldnt mind if the food proportion was bigger. The food is delicious i give you that and didnt take long for the food to come out. The lady in front was very kind as well... but i dont think i wana go there to order unless im desperate for a delivery then maybe. This was a rather adorable place. It was packed when I ventured here to meet a new date last Friday evening. The vibe here was good, but I wasn't really digging the food. Service was good as the servers were attentive and super sweet. One employee even brought me a to-go box since she saw that my food wasn't fully finished. There was a reason my food was still left and why I didn't ask for a box. Still, the gesture was sweet, and it shows that they were aware of what's happening with their guests. I guess since this place is a fusion place, you'd have to pick the right food items to really know what they specialize in or it would be just something average or mediocre. The pad Thai was definitely something I'd rather recommend you'd stay away from. It was sort of colorless and tasted really bland. I don't know. My date said it tasted just find, but I'm really unsure if it was my taste buds that were off that night or if my date is a rather easy person to please food wise... The sushi roll he had (totally unsure what he ordered) was pretty decent though as I snuck in a bite. Overall, this place is rather okay. Perhaps I'd give it another go, but I'm really unsure.
