My partner and I decided to try Tani Thai 02.20.2026 and stopped by around 6:30PM for dinner. First off, the interior seemed clean and well-kept. The ambiance was dark and intimate, which I appreciated -- it gave the space a cozy, relaxed vibe that felt nice for a dinner date. The music was low and soft, which worked well since most of the tables were talking pretty loudly. It didn't feel chaotic or overstimulating, and we were still able to have a comfortable conversation. Service was decent -- we were seated quickly and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Here's what we ordered: Tiger's Tears ($15) - 3/5 This was the dish I was most excited about. It's described as grilled beef with chili-lime seasoning, onions, scallions, and sweet peppers. Unfortunately, it fell short of expectations. The beef was noticeably tough, chewy, and a bit sinewy rather than tender and juicy. The chili-lime sauce was very sharp and aggressively acidic -- overwhelmingly sour to the point where it masked the savory, char-grilled flavor of the meat. It was supposed to be spicy, but as an Asian who regularly eats and enjoys spicy food, there was barely any heat at all. The dish looked vibrant and colorful, but flavor-wise it felt unbalanced and slightly one-dimensional. Basil Fried Rice with Chicken ($18) - 2.5/5 The menu labeled this as spicy as well, but again, there was zero kick. Not even a subtle warmth. It tasted like very standard, plain fried rice -- mildly seasoned, slightly oily, and lacking depth. The fresh Thai basil aroma wasn't very pronounced, and the overall flavor felt muted and underwhelming. The chicken was okay texture-wise, but the dish as a whole didn't stand out or justify the price point. It needed more heat, more fragrance, and more boldness to feel like true Thai basil fried rice. Coconut Mushroom Soup with Chicken ($5.50) - 2/5 This one was disappointing. When it first arrived, it was comforting and creamy with a light coconut aroma. Initially, it tasted balanced and mildly savory. However, as it sat and I alternated between dishes, the flavor became increasingly sour and slightly off-putting. The chicken was extremely dry, stringy, and overcooked, which made it difficult to enjoy. The broth lacked the rich, silky depth I was hoping for and ended up tasting thin, overly acidic, and somewhat flat. Thai Teas ($5.50 each) - 3.5/5 Honestly, these saved the night. Sweet, creamy, and refreshing -- exactly what you expect from a good Thai tea. Smooth, well-balanced, and flavorful. Water - 0/5 I took one sip and didn't touch it again. It tasted like straight tap water with a faint cleaning solution scent. Thankfully, we had the Thai Teas to rely on. Overall, the experience was okay but not memorable. The atmosphere and ambiance were pleasant, but the food didn't quite deliver -- especially considering how Thai cuisine is typically bold, aromatic, spicy, and layered. For us, the dishes leaned either too sour or too bland, without much balance in between. Given the prices, we were expecting more depth and stronger flavors. My friend and I decided to find a place to eat in downtown Buford last night. She said let's walk up and down and find a restaurant. So I randomly chose Tani Thai. I asked first if they cooked in peanut oil since I'm allergic to peanuts. The hostess told me she would check and came back and told me they cooked in vegetable oil... so we got seated pretty quickly. The service was pretty good. We ordered our food which took some time but the wait wasn't too bad. We ordered the fresh basil rolls as an appetizer, I ordered the shrimp & garlic wine and my friend ordered the tiger tears salad. We also ordered 2 cocktails a old fashioned and a lychee martini. As well as the mango with sticky rice for dessert. Let me tell you all the food was tasty and excellent. The ambiance was very cool. PS they do not split checks at this establishment. So if you go in a large party discuss this before going Food: here's why I brought the rating down. The food in my opinion is mid. First time here. Place is spacious and has great charm and decor. We started with the veggie spring rolls. Glad we did, crispy and done to perfection. Tasted great too. Hubby ordered the star of the dish. Must try the Royal Duck. Outstanding, tender duck with great sauce. We both upgraded to fried rice instead of steamed white rice. This dish was so good!! I thoroughly enjoyed it! It was the perfect blend of honey and garlic! Paired with the white rice, I was in honey chicken heaven! Our waitress was a delight! When we walked in, we noticed the antique safe as the hostess station and all the effort put in to making this old building beautiful. I appreciate things like this. Server was an Asian gentleman. Very friendly and attentive. We ordered spring rolls for appetizer. They were very good. I ordered royal duck and wife ordered honey garlic chicken. Both dishes were excellent, but the royal duck stole the show. Duck done well, a great mix of vegetables and the sauce was delicious. In fact, we started dipping my wife's chicken in the sauce for the duck. All in all, it was a good find. Portions good, and priced fairly. Hate here for the first time and enjoyed it, so I went back a couple of days later. Both times were good. I had the tom yum mushroom with tofu soup. While tasty with a citrusy flavor, there's not much substance or bulk to it. The spring rolls are very good, second time I tried the cheese rolls. Basically soring rolls stuffed with cream cheese. Kind of a crab rangoon without crab in the mix. Whike also tasty I think Inorefer the steaight up siring rolls. But you do get a little more with the cheese rolls. For dinner both times I had the eggplant and tofu meal. Really good both times. The restaurant itself is quaint and nice. Not overly large but still a decent size. I just wish they were maybe more of a fusion situation as to allow a larger menu with more options. Both with soup and meals. Of course bring in the Buford square, parking can be an issue. read more

If I'm being truthful, the food was really horrible, however, the steamed vegetables were okay that came with my Honey Chicken. The Honey Chicken was tough as nails, extremely thin strips of chicken battered and fried coated in a Honey based sauce. Sauce was ok, but if I did not know it was chicken based on ordering, I would not be able to tell. Now this is not the first time eating here. My wife and I have dined in before and the food was okay, not great, but okay. As for eating food from this place again, I highly doubt I will do that. read more

Great service and a very tasty dinner. We arrived at 6:00 PM on a Saturday and the place was under 50% seated. The hostess was friendly. Our waitress name not known who did a wonderful job throughout our meal. Very attentive, friendly and always there when we needed her. We dine here often with friends and also pick up on occasion. The food is outstanding and the service is excellent. There's so many dishes that we haven't tried because we love the masaman curry and drunken noodles so much and usually stick with those. The spring rolls and dumplings are very good. You can choose your spice level from 1 to 5 on your food order. My choice is #1 because it's very tasty without so much heat. My husband goes for #5. The ambiance is very nice with large booths and exposed brick walls. We've never felt rushed. This is a winner for great Thai food. They have a good selection of beer and cocktails too. There aren't a ton of Thai food options in this area but even that being said my husband and I would really like Tani Thai anyway. It's a slightly more upscale Thai restaurant tucked away in downtown Buford with tons of street parking. Anyway- their lychee martinis are delicious- always a favorite! Their summer rolls (or whatever it is they call them) are really yummy, they're real fresh tasting and the peanut dipping sauce is so tasty I could drink it! The portions are not overly large and while the prices coincide with the elevated dining experience they're going for I think it's worth it for a nice lunch or dinner date. We had attended an event near Buford which let out around 1:30 p.m. We were hungry and opted to try this place, as it had opened in Buford after we moved away from this area. We found street parking on Main a few doors down from the restaurant. There are also some public lots just off Main. There were a few parties dining, but the place was not too crowded. It was probably after whatever level of lunch rush they have on Saturdays. We were seated promptly. The server took our drink order and gave us a little time with the menu. We both found something to try. My wife opted for a chicken and broccoli dish while I ordered the panang tofu. She liked hers. Mine was also good, with a spice-level that was appropriate to the order (4 of 5). They do not appear to offer any 'lunch specials' on Saturday - prices for our entrees was around $15 each with no spring roll or soup added. I cannot speak to what the standard is for weekdays. I thought it was interesting that they have retained a mural that I recall from a prior incarnation of restaurants in this space - a sort of piano bar. It appears to be one of the final scenes from Casablanca. It doesn't really scream 'Thai restaurant' but it was nostalgic. read more

Tani Thai is sort of a hidden treasure when it comes to Thai food in the Buford area. It's located on old downtown Buford strip which is currently redeveloping with lots of new businesses soon to open. Look forward to this area being quite the attraction in the future. The restaurant sits in a large space that can more than accommodate a large amount of customers. The interior has dark wood tones with the tables covered in white to add contrast. Nice ambiance for sure. Great for social gatherings or date nights. There is also a bar as well. Very classy look that at the same time very homely and inviting. The menu is pretty typical of what you would find at most Thai restaurants. Check it out if you're curious. All the food can be made spicy but there is a little pepper to indicate if it's spicy by default. Spice levels range from 1 to 5. If you're daring ask them for "Thai Hot" which to any Thai person basically translates to make it as hot as you possibly can. These are the items I ordered: -Thai Iced Tea (more milk than I'm used to, but still tasty) -Panang Duck (curry was flavorful, duck was a little chewy) -Shrimp Drunken Noodle (Spicy but good flavor) -Shrimp Cones (crispy and delicious) -Tiger Tears (nice flavoring, meat could've been more tender) Overall, I thought the food tasted great. Service was good as well, they do check on you, but not constantly which is what I prefer. The Tiger's Cry Salad tasted like old / rotten beef the sauce also had a strange taste, my husband and I were afraid to eat too much because we didn't want a stomach ache. Got a craving for Thai. My friend and I decided on this gem downtown Buford. We started with spring rolls that were fabulous. I had the basil duck and it was very good. My friend had basil scallops. The scallops were large and perfect. The location in Old downtown Buford is the best way I could put it romantic. The staff was on spot. I don't know of a better tire restaurant in the Atlanta vicinity. I would consider the cost for the meal and the coconut cake which is excellent to be very reasonable.
