    Chicken Tortilla Soup

I found Open Outcry to be a bit of a hidden gem for happy hour. You walk in off the street and head downstairs. Initially, the decor is a bit, meh. It has the geometric sconce backdrops and colors of an old movie theater, lots of maroon. What did feel good to the eyes though, were the prices and variety on the happy hour menu! They offer a few $7 drinks. I was glad that the mule they offered was "the other mule", or whiskey mule. It was surprisingly good for a mule. You know how you think you know what to expect and then you're like, "wait what?" They had a lot of reasonably priced food options. One of our friends ordered the Prosciutto and Avocado Toast - it was enormous! The pork slider looked good as well, and both of them said they were really happy with the choice of Open Outcry. I had the tortilla soup and it was very rich and flavorful. We sat at a booth against the back wall and enjoyed looking up at the little square pieces of glass that offer a little view through the sidewalk. We were left hanging for a good while after we finished our drinks and meals, no one checked in on us and one of us notified the server we were ready while they were on their way back from the restroom. I'd recommend popping down here, but you might have to flag someone down when you're ready to go.

great place to have a date night. the ambience is everything. the duck was great but my favourite part is the mashed carrots. highly recommend this place!

I think this may be my new favourite place for drinks! I made a reservation and came by around 5:30 on a weekday hoping they have happy hour. The crowd was mostly people grabbing a drink after work. It's an interesting place, seats more than it looks like it could and was not busy. A reservation isn't required during the week. Great service, very attentive and amazing selection of drinks. I like the whole theme, atmosphere and little details that preserves bits and pieces of what this area previously used to home (theatre and stock exchange). I got a few bites to share too and I enjoyed the food. I really like the pate, but a friend of mine didn't. The meatballs were a hit and gnocchi was alright. I tried a couple whiskey based drinks and they were strong yet tasty. Their bartender sure knows how to make drinks. Only downside is there's no happy hour and the drinks are in the pricey side.

I've had Omurice many times... the classic method which is just a thin omelette covering ketchup rice... to the now more viral Omelette which is cut open to some runny egg goodness. And this place measures up to a lot of the ones in Japan! Ever since the viral sensation of the new evolved form of Omurice, many locations in Tokyo now also serve this dish. Outside of Japan, it's hard to find ones much better than what they serve here. The rice is cooked very well, the curry is delicious and has more depth than the store bought roux, and the eggs are cooked perfectly. We had a wonderful server who was able to answer all my questions in a friendly manner, and they were also pretty quick to serve. The prices are pretty good too, as they are remarkably cheaper than what I'm used to in Portland. Anyone craving Omurice should give this place a try!

The rice itself was very tasty - however, I was pretty disappointed when the egg was cut, it didn't run like what all the influencers were showing off. - I did notice some other tables get super runny eggs, and then others that were like mine - so the consistency was very very off. The chicken was honestly not good - being the first table seated , and the first table that ordered - this toke way too long to arrive. I was 75% done my rice by the time it arrived. Taste wise, tasted like nothing, no real seasoning to it- however a nice crisp to it. This will be a skip for me - however, you can still test your luck, and hopefully you get a better experience.

We started with a plate of the BBQ Duck, and it was absolute perfection--packed with so much lean, incredibly flavorful meat. Then we ordered the Signature Four Treasures Chef's Plate on Steamed Rice. Talk about a masterpiece! It comes with BBQ Pork, Soy Sauce Chicken, Roasted Pork, and half a Salty Duck Egg. Honestly, every single element was so delicious that I genuinely couldn't pick a favorite. To top off an already amazing meal, their black lychee tea was out of this world. I loved it so much I actually asked if I could buy some to take home! They don't retail it, but the staff was so sweet and told me, "You can drink as much as you like here." Challenge absolutely accepted! The staff kept it perfectly topped up the entire time. Excellent food, wonderful service, and all the cozy, classic vibes. More cha cha cha please! I will definitely be back.

Okeya Kyujiro is a Michelin one-star theatrical omakase restaurant, and when they say theatrical, they mean it! From the moment you're welcomed by smiling ushers in kimono to the closing tea ceremony, every movement feels intentional, precise, and elevated. The ambiance is serene and anticipatory. At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. Courses arrive one by one, never rushed. The service team moves seamlessly in the background, refilling water and attending to drinks (available as an add-on) without disrupting the flow. The finale is a matcha ceremony, whisked in front of you with the same quiet precision that defines the evening. When the final sip is taken, the bell chimes once more, the chefs and staff bow, and the screens close. It was a beautifully choreographed dining experience, perfect for marking a special moment, and one I'd gladly return to for the next celebration.

This is a more theatrical style so expect louder music and a more theatrical experience (eg one of the servers played the flute for the guests celebrating birthdays). I prefer a more intimidate and interactive style of omakase where you can talk with the chefs. This lunch also felt a little fast in terms of progression of the meal. Some of the dishes were very tasty while others didn't wow us. With drinks, we were quite full despite some reviews saying portion is on the smaller size. Our total was around $500 with drinks for 2 people. A really good experience for omakase, especially if you are looking for a unique experience though not my favourite one I've tried.

We arrived around 2 PM for our reservation and were greeted warmly right away, which made for a great first impression. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The bamboo divider running through the middle of the space gave it a cozy, modern Japanese-inspired feel, and the overall atmosphere was probably my favorite part of the experience. As for the food, unfortunately it didn't quite live up to the hype for me. I ordered the seafood sizzler bowl, and while it wasn't bad by any means, it felt underwhelming for the price. The bowl was mostly rice, with a few small prawns, tiny scallops, a little roe, and some crab mixed in. I was expecting something more seafood-forward, so it ended up feeling more like a deconstructed fried rice than the premium dish I had envisioned. Same with the unagi bowl, couple small pieces of unagi cut up... The appetizers were actually the highlight of the meal and ended up being more memorable than my main course. I kept waiting for a dish to really wow me, but nothing stood out enough to make me crave a return visit. Maybe I just ordered the wrong items, because I know this place has plenty of fans. Overall, I'm glad I tried it, but based on this visit, I don't see myself making a special trip back.
