Perilla Oil Soba

This is where you can go now for marinated Korean seafood platter in Manhattan! Their other dishes are also very beautifully plated and yummy

Overall: 4 stars Comforting ambience with elegantly presented food from Korean hotpot to more newly favorite offerings. I found the quality of food to be generally high and the seasoning to be consistently light. Marinated Raw Platter - Comprehensive sampler that has a little bit of everything, with the marinade on the lighter of the palette. Of course, don't wear white if you're planning on eating this. Shabu Shabu Set - High quality set with beautifully marbled meat that is tenderfully tasty; The vegetables and sides are a great palette booster with a comprehensive flavor palette for everything except saline. Perilla Oil Noodles - fresh, vibrant, refreshing and does a good job absorbing the residual flavors from the other dishes in particular; however, I think this dish could benefit with a noticable amount more of saline forwardness. Earl Grey Cocktail - Very bright but alcohol forward cocktail to give it that refreshing sip without making it taste like fruit juice. We went for restaurant week and split 2 of the 3 course meals. Kimchi pancake and beef fritters were decent to start. The shabu shabu was amazing. The raw seafood plate was okay to me - I personally wouldn't get again. Dessert was a miss. But for the restaurant week price, we thought it was a great deal. Service was good and ambiance wasn't anything special.

I tried their $60 NYC Restaurant Week menu and I honestly thought that's actually worth booking! Oncheon brought korean hot spring inspired cuisine to the heart of busy ktown, and I'm beyond excited that we finally have a spot in NYC serving korean soy marinated seafood. The marinated seafood platter would've been $79 for two if we ordered à la carte, so the RW menu felt like a steal. This is the perfect way to try both the seafood and shabu-shabu without committing to a full order of either. We left SO full. *Seafood Kimchi Pancake *Crispy Beef Fritters It was hard to pick a favorite between these two. The kimchi pancake had some nice charred, crispy edges that I loved, while the beef brisket one was coated in this super crunchy batter that almost felt like chips. *Signature Shabu-Shabu We went with the recommended doenjang broth and wagyu ribeye, and WOW... I could've kept sipping that broth all night. The set comes with your choice of wagyu, veggies, four sides, and four dipping sauces. My favorite was the ponzu, as it added a citrusy kick without overpowering the beef. *Marinated Seafood Platter (+$9) The salmon slices were so thick and fatty they could barely stay on my chopsticks! And the soy marinated blue crab had way more meat than any I've tried in NYC. I'd come back just for this. I also loved making handrolls with the fresh shrimp and rice. *Fruity Bear Ice Cream *Green Tea Tiramisu I hate to say it, but the desserts were meh...The ice cream tasted artificial. The tiramisu was dry and barely tasted like green tea, and the mascarpone cheese wasn't fluffy and had a funky taste. I'd save dessert for somewhere else, but the prix-fixe is still worth it even if you skip dessert.

We ordered the shabu-shabu with two soup bases: mushroom and their signature miso broth. Both were comforting and flavorful, but I personally loved the miso one more -- rich, warm, and perfect with the beef, tofu, mushrooms, pumpkin, and vegetables. The ingredients all looked very fresh and high quality, especially the beautifully marbled beef and the variety of mushrooms. The side dishes and sauces made the whole meal feel thoughtful and complete. We also ordered the pancake, which was crispy, savory, and great to share. The interior is another highlight -- very cozy, calming, and beautifully decorated with Korean-style details. It felt like a little escape from the city.

the moment we stepped in you could smell the sukiyaki which smelled so good. that's what I ended up ordering and I was a little disappointed. I had two other friends order the sukiyaki but we all had to share one pot. I felt like we should've been given at least two pot so we could cook everything quicker. we quickly ran out of the base/soup as well. service was quick and we were seated on time with the reservation we made. definitely on the pricer side and you don't get much with it. I would come here for a special occasion if anything.

Oncheon definitely has a beautiful, upscale aesthetic, but the overall setup doesn't feel entirely practical for a shabu shabu meal. A major drawback is that you can't adjust the heat yourself at the table. While the concept of the 3-4 layer bento boxes is visually very cute, it's definitely not ideal for larger groups. I also wished our waiter had taken the time to explain the menu and the concept to us when we arrived to make things clearer. As for the food, the ingredients tasted fresh, but the portions are on the smaller side, so you will definitely need to order à la carte add-ons to feel full. The best thing was their signature soup base, it was incredibly delicious and reminded me of traditional Japanese shabu shabu. For the beef fritters I also didn't get to taste the beef as much so that felt like a miss for me too

Oncheon is a stunning Korean restaurant in Manhattan's ktown with a soothing and calm ambience. The space is beautifully decorated and I love all the decor. There's so much attention to detail even to how the menus were displayed that I really liked. My friend and I shared the lunch shabu shabu for two with the waygu and brisket, udon noodles and ma la soup base. Overall it was filling between the two of us with the set. This is a great spot in ktown for an elevated dining experience!

Marinated Seafood Platter

Came for the marinated seafood platter, stayed for the makgeolli! The milk tea honeycomb makgeolli might be one of my favorite new drinks in the city. Came for a weeknight dinner w/ a resy. Good amount of space but would still recommend making a reservation since they aren't hard to get. Interior is fine, not really the zen hot spring vibe I was expecting. But the food was very tasty! Marinated seafood platter (seasonal for the summer) was refreshing and perfect in the hot weather. I also really liked the beef fritters- super crispy.

Overall, the meal was delicious! The atmosphere is very peaceful and aesthetic. It really fits the idea of a Korean spa/hot spring. The service was fantastic. Everyone was kind and offered help wherever they could! The meal was tasty with a lot of different sauces, meats, bonchon, and veggies. The only issue I had was with the price. It was much higher than I'd expect for Shabu Shabu. We ended up spending around $50 per person before tip

Oncheon nails the hot spring concept, the decor and overall ambiance really do make the space feel transportive and intentional rather than gimmicky. It's warm, moody, and immersive. The Seoul Glow cocktail (Asian pear-based) was good - definitely on the sweeter side, but surprisingly strong. Super easy to drink. The su yuk was delicious and one of our favorite dishes of the night. The spicy sauce served alongside it balanced everything really well and added a lot of depth without overpowering the meat. Our only real disappointment was the seafood kimchi pancake. There wasn't much seafood distributed throughout, and the kimchi leaned more sour. There was also a huge amount of shredded leafy garnish on top (possibly perilla?) that kind of overwhelmed the dish texturally. The dipping sauce was nice, though. The seafood platter - which was really the reason we came - was very good for a little under $80 and had a solid variety. The shrimp and salmon were especially well-marinated, and honestly I preferred their marinades to a lot of others I've had in the city. My one note is that I wish the crab had sat in the marinade longer. The claw meat in particular didn't feel like it fully absorbed the flavor the way the other seafood did.

Amazing dining experience at Oncheon NYC! The Korean hot spring-themed atmosphere is gorgeous and relaxing. We tried the NYC Restaurant Week $60 three-course dinner, featuring delicious beef fritters, a super fresh and refreshing marinated seafood platter, and an adorable bear ice cream. The signature wagyu shabu set is also top-tier, clean, and satisfying. Highly recommend making a reservation on Resy before you go!

Beef steak rice chanhap

what i ordered: beef steak chanhap what i paid: $34.00 after tax and tip would i get again: yes, highly recommend the lunch specials :) i just recently heard about oncheon and after seeing their lunch menu, i knew I had to go! The inside is very cute and I was able to walk in on a Friday a little after noon and get a seat right away. The food was well seasoned and I enjoyed everything! In the side dishes, there is a frozen lychee jelly that was the perfect dessert to go along with the meal. I made friends with the girl next to me who got the marinated seafood platter and she really enjoyed her food as well.

One thing I really appreciated was how good their ventilation system is. Unlike most Korean BBQ restaurants, you don't leave smelling like grilled meat, which is a huge plus! The best part? They cook the meat for you! Our server was amazing and made the entire experience feel so effortless. We could just sit back, relax, and enjoy our meal without worrying about cooking anything ourselves. A few things worth mentioning: The restaurant is on the third floor of the 315 office building, which was a little tricky to find at first. The elevator is also extremely cramped. It might fit a wheelchair, but I honestly wouldn't count on it without checking first. On the bright side, we had no issues walking in without a reservation! Overall, such a great experience! Great service, nice atmosphere, and no smelling like BBQ afterward. Would absolutely recommend and visit again!

This place just doesn't hold a candle compared to Howoo (or even Cote) in terms of "upscale kbbq"…read more Service was reallyyyy lacking- felt rushed, and at times even rude. Meat quality was good for the beef, but fair to bad for the pork (particularly belly was tough). I think it could be a decent place to get a casual meal with friends, but the prices are ridiculous for the quality and experience. One of my favorite things here was the marinated onions so that should tell you something about the meat. You'll leave smelling like smoke too which is always a letdown...

Sat at a high top by the bar and had a fairly light dinner. The Beef Tartare comes out with a cracked quail egg for you to pour into the meat yourself and the beef sat on top of sone sliced pear. It's a small appetizer but it tasted fresh and clean, the crispness of the pear matches well with the heaviness of the beef. The cured shrimp was delicious, I'm sad there was only 3 because I wanted 5 servings of it. The uni, roe, and soy shrimp practically melted in your mouth. The Uni Bimbimbap has rave reviews and I can see why. It was filling without being overly heavy and each bite had uni in it after mixing it up. If you're unsure about uni, this is definitely a great way to introduce yourself to it's flavor palette.

The tables were on the smaller side, so things felt a bit cramped, especially when our entrées arrived before we were even halfway through our appetizers. I really dislike when that happens. It makes the meal feel rushed, and there simply wasn't enough room on the table for everything. We started with the beef tartare, which unfortunately was a disappointment. It was rather bland and lacked that richness and depth of flavor I was hoping for. Yes, there was a sauce underneath, but there wasn't nearly enough to make a difference. What it really needed was a beautiful raw egg yolk to bring everything together. That would have taken it to another level. I will say, though, that the crispy taro chips were very well executed, and that's coming from someone who isn't particularly fond of taro. Interestingly, the photo on their website showed lotus root chips instead. The perilla oil noodles were another letdown. They were beautifully prepared and cooked perfectly al dente, but once again, the flavor just wasn't there. Technically well executed, but not particularly exciting to eat. Now, on to the good stuff! The Truffle Potato Pancake was absolutely dee-licious! It far exceeded my expectations, and funny enough, it's something I never would have ordered myself. Definitely one of the highlights of the meal. The Hojok Galbi was also excellent, beautifully flavored and really enjoyable. My only gripe was the portion size, which was considerably smaller than what was pictured, especially since half the plate was taken up by salad. And don't get me wrong, I love me a good salad, but the dressing could definitely use some work. We finished with the frozen Makgeolli, which was such an interesting and delicious way to end the meal. That first bite had a pretty strong alcohol taste, but by the second and third bites, the flavors really came together, and it became absolutely delicious. A great refreshing finish. As for the service, our server had actually been very attentive throughout the entire meal, which made what happened at the end even more disappointing. Without asking whether we wanted anything else, she simply handed us the check. I understand the restaurant had gotten busy and they probably needed to turn the table, but how about a simple, "Can I get you anything else?" before presenting the bill? Anything would have been better than making us feel like it was time to leave. Overall, there were definitely some standout dishes, particularly the Truffle Potato Pancake and Hojok Galbi, but there were also some misses. Between the underwhelming flavors of certain dishes, the cramped table, the rushed pacing, and the abrupt ending to an otherwise attentive service experience, the evening felt a little uneven. There's some really good cooking happening here, but a few adjustments would have made the experience so much better.
