So overhyped.
I've been wanting to come here forever because I'd heard good things, and their garden looked so cute and perfect for a summer evening. We got there early so they offered for us to go to their garden for a cocktail. We sat down..and waited...and waited...for someone to come take our order, and then waited...and waited...again to get our cocktail (I think we got there at 7:30 for an 8:00 reservation (with the knowledge that we wouldn't be seated until our reservation time, so that part was totally fine) but we didn't get our drinks until probably 8:15, at which point we were escorted to our table only a couple minutes later. Also, I was carrying my bag and jacket, and my cocktail was in a coupe glass that was almost spilling as I was walking to the table, and the server didn't offer to carry it for me, which was a little weird but again, no big deal).
We ordered the watermelon sushi, kale crab rangoon, and carrot crepe to start. We were going to order 2 mains, but didn't really find any of the options that enticing, so we just settled on the serrano wrapped fish. The sushi was very refreshing, and the rangoon was good, but neither wow'ed me in the slightest. The carrot crepe was my favorite but such a teeny tiny portion, I basically forgot what it tasted like immediately after, because it was gone in a couple bites. The fish entree was unremarkable.
For dessert, we had the chocolate mousse (fine, not great) and the lavender yogurt. The yogurt was a perfect summer dessert, super light and tart - like an elevated version of pinkberry. I liked it a lot, but not enough to come back here for it given how underwhelming the rest of the meal was.
On top of it all, service was horrible. I can kind of excuse bad service in the garden, because a) we were early and b) it's out of the way, so it's not like there's a waiter there the whole time. But once we were seated at our table, our waitress seems so uninterested in serving us, it was bizarre. It was impossible to get any water - we must have had 6 different people come to our table before anyone refilled our cups/pitcher - and at one point, our waitress started taking our order and then just trailed off and got distracted for a good minute before turning her attention back to us, without any acknowledgment that she'd just cut us off and ignored us. The people who cleared our tables and brought us our food seemed friendly enough, so maybe it was just her, but she was so unprofessional that it really detracted from our dining experience. I understand that restaurants are kind of hectic and waiters can be busy juggling a lot of tables...but she was just standing around talking to the host the whole time, not doing anything. It was certainly off-putting, and not the level of service I expect from that caliber of restaurant. I'm bummed because I really wanted to love this place, but I just didn't. Oh well. read more
