A friend and I came here for Christmas dinner. It was packed. They said the wait would be 25-30 minutes; it turned out to be more like 50. We wouldn't have waited if we had known it would be that long. Once we were seated, the food arrived quickly. The hot and sour soup was too vinegary. Today I went to have lunch with a friend here. It had been a while since they had allowed sit in dinning. We were greeted very nicely by the young lady at the register. We go to our seats. They remodeled and it looks so nice and clean. I went to wash my hands and there was no soap in the dispenser. I told the waitress there was no hand soap in the bathroom to wash hands. She acknowledged my comment. She was friendly at first but when I asked for lemon with my egg drop soup she gave me one dried up slice. The soup had a different taste then I was use too. It was okay. I ordered the lunch special that came with the soup. I ordered bbq pork Lo Main, it was a really good serving size for lunch portion and the price was great. I had water to drink. Over all it was good. THE SERVICE ON THE OTHER HAND!!!! Horrible! our waitress was so rude!!! She fround at us and even rolled her eyes when I asked for chili oil. I know I was not being rude nor was my friend. We didn't know why she was being so rude to us. I let that dictate my hunger and I lost my appetite. This will be the last on my list if I ever go back. Reducing my rating from 5 to 3 because i deemed the beef tendon stew awful today, overly spicy with an unpleasant taste, and the potatoes were undercooked, and most importantly there was no tendon in the tendon soup, just a lot of stringy meat. Threw it away. Also, the duck wasn't bad but not as tasty as it was last time, so I'm now back to recommending my pal Jonathan's duck at his Asian deli inside the Lee Lee market on Orange Grove and La Cholla. We recently went to Old Peking twice with Chinese friends of the owner so we probably got better service and meals than most. We compared the service and dishes with Chef Wang and decided they came out about equal overall. Chef Wang has an edge with the more authentic dishes that most Americans won't touch. Our duck combo #3 (duck soup, duck lettuce wraps, and roasted duck) was incredible. Great flavor and very fresh. An overwhelming amount of food for $40. I used to love going to Old Peking restaurant. I bought several Entertainment books because of their Old Peking coupon so I could bring other people. But they have been "closed for indoor seating" for a year now. All the other restaurants have been open for months - if they had shut down at all. Old Peking DOES do delivery and pick-up, but refuse to take my coupon. It is pathetic. I believe it is just an excuse not to take people's coupons. Their roasted duck is delicious! Old Peking is the only restaurant I go to for duck and I've tried many places, but I love this place I most. The meat is so juicy and the sauce that comes along with it, compliments the duck in every way. I always order for take out, so I can't comment on the service. We visited Old Peking last 4th of July weekend when most of the other Chinese restaurants were closed. The place is pretty dingey and run down. The menu offers primarily familiar Americanized Mandarin and Cantonese fare. The service was adequate although we had to stop our server to get drinks refilled. The food was pretty much exactly what I expected - mediocre West Coast Chinese. Lots of sickly sweet sauces coating deep fried utility chunks of pork and/or chicken. Ive been trying to find a restaurant that can make one of my favorite NYC Chicken shrimp dishes - Szechuan Shrimp (also known as Shrimp with Hot Chile Sauce for Iron Chef Japan fans). When I asked if they could make this dish (I even showed them a recipe from online) they just flat out refused. At a restaurant named Old Peking you would expect more Peking style cuisine but such was not on offer. Prices here are pretty standard for good Good Chinese food, not for the buffet quality fare served. I wouldn't go back. read more

We were looking for a Chinese restaurant near The loft and tried to get into Yu Zi Wei, but it was closed at 6 on a Friday night. A sign in the window says "Open," but it was closed. So we crossed Speedway and dined at Old Peking, which was fine, but nothing special. Our group got shrimp in Lobster sauce, which was 10 shrimp swimming in a pool of clear sauce, sliced duck, which was quite tender and tasty, and Kung Pao Beef, which was beef strips, peanuts, and cubed zucchini. The beef was supposed to be "spicy," but wasn't really. The atmosphere was that of an old restaurant, although there were few people there and we could hear each other fine. We split the bill three ways at it came to $16 each. For OK food in an adequate environment near the Loft, it's an adequate choice. read more

My wife and I tried to order dinner for the family tonight using Eat 24. The order never arrived. My wife called the restaurant 30 minutes after it was suppose to be delivered, which was 45 - 60 minutes, and was dismissed out of hand by the woman that answered the phone. The same person told her they never received the order on their end and that my wife needed to call Eat 24. Eat 24 had my wife on hold for quite some time so she had to hang up so we could make other arrangements and get the kids fed. We called Old Peking again after we ate. The woman that answered the phone asked us for an order number. The order confirmation email we received had no order number. The person on the phone again wanted us to call Eat 24 and get it resolved. I asked that the restaurant handle that issue as it was their 3rd party ordering system that, according to the person on the phone, made the mistake. I was unclear as to why, after being charged for food and delivery and receiving neither, I needed to further invest myself or my time in recovering the money that was taken from us by the company Old Peking hired to facilitate their online ordering. I was told in so many words that she didn't care one way or another and hung up the phone. At this point, approximately $50 had already been debited from our checking account. We had no food and no prospect of food. Eat 24 will take 3 - 5 days to refund the money to our account. Basically we are letting them borrow $50 for the better part of the week and in return we get treated like garbage. Other than avoid this place, I have nothing else to add. read more

I can't believe we've been driving past this place for years but very happy we decided to try it tonight. Wow oh wow oh wow! I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken off the Szechuan menu - it was eh, a little salty. But I ate the chicken anyway. I also ordered the Mapo Tofu (w/pork) off the Szechuan menu - Wow oh wow oh wow! This one is right up there with some of the best I've had on the planet. So happy they have this. Wifey ordered the Sizzling Eggplant with stuffed shrimp (not to be confused with the stir-fry eggplant and cashews) off the regular menu - Wow oh wow oh wow! She has been looking all over the country for this and to think it was right here. She said she will need to order two servings next time. When we arrived the parking lot was full and we had to leave the car in the high school lot (oh my). They greeted us with a smile and sat us down right away. Even brought the Szechuan menu without us having to ask for it. And, tonight, we also had a great and wonderful server. She was very friendly and helped us pick some of the items described above. Her recommendations were spot on. Service was fast as well. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and it all was very very good and hot when we got it. Ambiance: The place seemed just kinda plain inside but not as dumpy as some of the reviews led me to believe. Typical basic Tucson and not much different than some of the family style places we used to go to before moving here some years ago. So, it's not fancy but I didn't think it was quite the dump either. You could wear a collared shirt inside and it would be OK. I tried ordering a take out on the phone and I honestly had the hardest time understanding the lady on the phone. I gave up and just went to Szechaun Omei across the street. I got a chicken lo mein to go and egg drop soup to go. It is pretty good...but both the soup seemed very oily and greasy. I don't think I will come here again...maybe on hangover Sunday! What took us so long to come back? Well, an Entertainment Book coupon did the trick anyways and we were glad to be back. We skipped the appetizers and went for Moo shu pork, Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, plus Szechuan Green beans. The shrimp dish was flawless with a delicious sauce with firm, well cooked shrimp. A word of warning re the Green beans. They are cooked with Jalapeños. That is the peppers are sliced lengthwise and are about the very same color as the beans themselves. So it's easy to unexpectedly bite into a powerfully hot pepper. Wife really got it hard, almost spoiling the whole dinner. But, all in all we had a good dinner. read more

I was visiting Tucson and wanted a somewhat fresh/healthy option besides Mexican or burgers. I looked on Yelp and found Old Peking. It had good reviews, and a lot of raves about the Orange Chicken. I decided to order that for pickup. When I arrived I wasn't greeted or acknowledged, then just handed my food. The restaurant was also completely empty, which is never a good sign. The food was terrible, the chicken was battered in a McDonald's style batter, with very small amounts of chicken inside. Plus, the chicken was clearly a paste and heavily processed like you would find in a cheap chicken nugget. Most Chinese dishes come with fresh vegetables tossed in, this had nothing. It didn't taste good, the only compliment I could give is that the orange sauce was actually pretty good. Want a place that serves frozen, cheap food for a high price? Go to Old Peking. Looking for something fresh, healthy, and affordable? You're better off going to Panda Express. read more
