Our first time in Pigeon Forge and I found this place with rave reviews of its food so e decided to come. At 5:30ish, the place is full and bustling on a Sunday evening. Thankfully the wait was short and we were quickly seated. The wooden mill is bustling with staff and customers. We looked at the menu and was positively overwhelmed by the options. Everything sounded good. Our waiter, Luis, was very friendly and helpful... with our questions and recommended their most popular dishes. We decided on ribs and sauerkraut, fried/broiled catfish, & fried shrimps. Within minutes, the corn fritters, salad & soups arrived at it table and not long after our entrees. This place had its services packed down. Every portion was large m, comes with side & dessert choice. Outstanding. Old Mill Restaurant absolutely lived up to the hype and was one of our favorite meals in the Smokies. In fact, it was the first restaurant we ate at when we arrived in Pigeon Forge and the last one before heading to the airport we loved it that much! The complimentary corn fritters with maple butter, salad, and dessert made it feel like the food just kept coming. The portions are huge, everything tasted fresh and homemade, and everyone in our group had leftovers for lunch the next day. Our first visit around 4 p.m. had no wait at all. We came back a second time around 12:30 p.m. and only waited about 20 minutes. The restaurant is massive 4 levels, but they have a great system, and once seated, the food came out quickly. The service was friendly and attentive, constantly refilling our drinks without us even asking. After dinner, don't skip exploring the Old Mill district. There's a General Store, Pottery House, candy shop, and bakery. The peaceful river with ducks, geese, and the historic mill makes it a great place to relax before heading out. Out of all the restaurants we tried in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area, this was easily one of our favorites. We'd gladly come back again. read more

This place is so busy. They do not take reservations. You put in your name and they will call you once a table is available. There are speakers outside and in the general store. You should be able to hear your name anywhere outside. The chicken or pot pie is what is mostly ordered. We ordered 2 platters of chicken. One platter with 1 breast and 4 drumsticks. The second platter was 6 drumsticks. We also ordered a platter of catfish. You can't go wrong. The chicken was moist and delicious. The catfish was breaded and was good. We had green beans as a side. My DIL and I had dinner here last night. After a 45 minute wait, we were finally seated. This is a very busy, touristy place. We gave our waiter our order for dinner and was surprised how fast the meal was served. The corn chowder was bland in taste, hush puppies were good. My DIL ordered the ham with mashed potatoes and collard greens. She said it was ok. I ordered the meatloaf, green beans and cheddar cheese grits. The green beans definitely have seen better days, mushy at best. Grits were not appealing, very stiff. The meatloaf was ok. Not sure why this restaurant has such a huge draw, except for its history. Walking in everything smelt delicious and they didn't disappoint. The food was delicious and I think it was the best shrimp and grits I've ever had. The fried pickles were also incredible and all the portions were huge! The service was great and fast. Of course we had to try the highly rated Old Mill Restaurant during a recent visit to the city! We were quoted a 45 mins wait but it was over an hour. We visited the store and water while we waited. The atmosphere definitely fits the city country vibe of Pigeon Forge. I had the chicken and dumplings which were so good. They came with green beans, mash potatoes, corn chowder and hush puppies which were also great. Our server was very friendly and made the experience even better. We love the Old Mill Restaurant. Probably our favorite in Pigeon Forge. Down home cooking at its best. It was extremely busy when we arrived but definitely worth the wait. As with any busy restaurant , it was loud, but it didn't bother us. Johnny was on the spot today. Our favorite server, Santiago, was only taking large tables according to the hostess who could have been kinder, but Johnny definitely filled his place well. The corn chowder was amazing as were the corn fritters. Piping hot. Husband ordered the Country Fried Chicken with the gravy on the side. Added Cole slaw. I have mixed feelings about this place and if I could rate it separately on the restaurant experience and the food, I would. I'll start with the positive - the food is better than expected. My catfish dinner was tasty and hot. Each meal comes with a variety of sides, corn fritters, salad, soup and dessert and everything exceeded my expectations as far as quality goes. The value is good and portions plentiful. We ended up taking my husbands entire chicken pot pie to go as we were already full by the time our entrees came out. The only disappointment food-wise was that they were out of banana pudding by time we ordered dessert, but the pecan pie was a great consolation. That said, the overall experience of this place is exactly what you'd expect from a touristy restaurant turning over hoards of people as quickly as possible. From beginning to end, it felt like I was eating at Disney World, from the Big Thunder Mountain-like queue (and hour plus wait) to the nondescript, somewhat dirty dining rooms. Our server was efficient and nice, but was obviously extremely busy, as were the dozens of others scurrying around with huge trays full of food. Overall, I'd average the food 4 stars with the experience 2 stars, for an overall 3 stars. It's not a place I'll itch to return to, but I wasn't sorry we went either. read more

This was our first stop in Pigeon Forge and we had a great experience. There was a wait but it they seated people quickly. Our waiter was very nice and helpful when asking for dish recommendations. I had the turkey dinner meal and the cornbread dressing was amazing! The green beans were soggy and not flavorful but everything else we ordered was great. Waited 1.25 hours to get in and it was so worth it. Hubby got the pot pie which was huge!! He also got the pecan pie for dessert which was delicious!! I got the turkey dinner which was absolutely delicious. Along with the fritters, soup, salad, green beans and mashed potatoes with our meal. My husband who doesn't even like turkey took a bite and said it was really good. Savannah was our server and she was attentive and answered all of our questions since this was the first time dining here. She's a gem. The food and service here is great. For us though, it is a favorite for lunch or dinner. We tried breakfast this year and found we like other places better. While the food was good, the selection was just a little more narrow and specific than elsewhere. For instance instead of simple pancakes or French toast it was cinnamon pecan. The banana nut mini muffins were wonderful. Even the kids (who hate nuts in things) devoured them. Also, the tasty multi-berry jam is available in the store next door, and we bought some to take home. Overall, the food was delicious, and service was top notch as usual. She brought over a complimentary cup of soup that looked like vegetable pudding. Soup should not jiggle like pudding. My wife actually ordered soup and it had absolutely no flavor and no meat basically huge chunk of cabbage and a couple carrots. Now onto my club sandwich. First it looked pretty but my tomato was green so that had to come off, second the turkey had a funky smell to it and I was not brave enough to attempt to eat it. Ate a couple fries that also were not it. Just asked for my bill at this point was so over it and it wasn't expensive so just my losses. We had heard a lot about the Old Mill and trying this out if visiting. Once pulling up and checking in this gave us the same vibes of St. Augustine. Very crowded when we arrived and were told a 30 minute wait but were called much quicker. The decor is amazing and the views depending what floor your on determine if you can view the river. The lower floors have those views. The service was good but definitely stretched so you may not see them often. The food was pretty good, you can tell this was scratch and made with care. Still full however took our name, and within 10 minutes our name along with others called up. We were seated. I had the fried chicken, she had the chicken and dumplings. We had dinner at The Old Mill our first night in town, and it was the perfect way to kick off our trip! The surrounding area and shops made for a lovely place to wander while we waited for our table -- it truly feels like stepping into a little slice of Southern charm. The only downside was the constant loudspeaker announcements calling names for tables. While I understand it's how they've always done things, it became a bit of a mood-breaker after a while. In 2025, it feels like a text-based waitlist system would keep things just as efficient without disturbing the cozy atmosphere. But hey -- they stay true to their old-fashioned roots, right? Once seated, the experience was fantastic. Our server was friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. I ordered the chicken pot pie, which was hearty and delicious -- total comfort food done right. My only other small critique would be the checkout counter staff. I think this might have been a case of me just ordering the wrong thing. I called my order in for carryout and the service was great. The food was done really fast even though they were packed. I was in and out with no issues, and my food was hot. The hush puppies were good. I ate all of them. The collard greens had no seasoning, but the green beans did and they had meat in them for extra flavor. I ordered the hot roast beef sandwich, which came with mashed potatoes and green beans. The beef was cooked medium rare and was tough as a shoe. I couldn't eat it, although the gravy was good. Because the food was so uneven, I really think I just ordered the wrong item. There are so many places on the strip and I'm only here for the weekend, so I probably wouldn't go back. I wouldn't want to risk my food not being good again. read more

We stopped in for a late lunch/early dinner on a Friday in June, based on a recommendation from close relatives who had visited about a year ago. The place appeared busy, and we were told there would be about a 20-minute wait for a party of two. Soon after, our name was called, and we were seated. Shortly after placing our drink orders, we were brought corn fritters and corn chowder. I hadn't had a chance to request the vegetable beef soup instead, but when my wife asked if I could switch out my soup, our server, Natalie, was happy to accommodate. She was kind and provided polite, attentive service throughout the meal. My wife ordered the Meatloaf, and I chose the Pot Roast and Gravy. The food was good, but everything about the experience felt incredibly scripted--like a well-oiled machine focused on volume and turnover. This is not the kind of place we would typically choose. While it's efficient and the décor is charming, the overall atmosphere felt commercialized and impersonal. From the check-in process to paying our bill, we felt more like a number than guests. Natalie did a fine job, but the system itself lacks warmth or authenticity. There was no real engagement or sense of connection to the experience. For that reason, we wouldn't return. I love good Southern cooking and this place was excellent. We had a thirty minute wait which seemed to go by quickly. It is a comfortable wait outside if you are visiting from out of town with pamphlets for things to do and maps on the long ramp up to the restaurant. This place is huge inside, super- busy and runs like a well-oiled machine. We were a party of seven and once we were seated our humorous, good natured, and sarcastic waiter took excellent care of us. All meals came with corn fritters and corn chowder (not vegetarian) which was fantastic. I ordered a Reuben for lunch and it was as delicious as any deli would offer. As busy as this place is, our server was extremely attentive to every need and made us laugh (which was a complete bonus). I would love to come here again for dinner next time. A lot of what people will think of the old mill may come down to how much you like classic southern food. I enjoyed my meal here and had a very pleasant experience which I'll share below but it wasn't a top meal despite the food being pretty good and the ambiance/scene along the river being nice. As others have noted, this place gets busy but I was lucky to walk right in with my small party of two. Service was prompt and when some of the bussers accidentally cleared our table during the entrees, the waitress apologised profusely and brought us new stuff immediately (on top of the quick free refills on our drinks). All meals come as complete sets with a main with the salad, soup, corn fritters, side choice, and dessert. The maple butter is nice but I didn't think the corn fritters had much flavor. Greens lacked texture and were kind of peppery but others might like that. Homemade salad was fine but nothing special and it was nice to hear that they make all of their own salad dressings in house. Corn chowder like some of these other sides I've mentioned was pretty plain and didn't seem worth the space in my belly. Again nothing offensive about any of the sides but given the reputation here I was wondering if my take could be off maybe or expecting too much? Mashed potato's, which came as a bonus side (accidentally) as I wanted to try the chicken dumplings and our waitress let me sub those as a side, were strong. The waitress had also recommended the chicken dumplings main as a popular choice and if I could order again I probably would have chosen that. Waitress also recommended catfish secondly, which is what I got, and this was solid too. The bread they use in the fry is tasty and a good ratio to the fish and well spiced. My son got a typical grilled cheese and fries which were fine but nothing special (dipping his bread in my chicken dumpling mush was delicious and I'd recommend). Given the price ($10 kid meal) it was more than adequate, especially with how it came with a drink and desert. My meal at $25 ish was also a very fair value and I went home with a fair amount of leftovers which was nice. Despite some less than stellar commentary here on some of the sides I will be happy still to eat them as leftovers. Deserts were slightly disappointing and given the velocity at which they are pushing food out, I get the limited menu of items for this (we also came later in the evening so one or two of the five ish items were out). I also noticed at the kitchen window the desserts (probably like the sides I'm guessing too) were seemingly being pre-made, which gives a little bit of a school cafeteria feel and makes you wonder about the quality ceiling. All of this quality commentary could be disregarded potentially because A) you just love this type of food regardless and/or B) given the price points and type of restaurant prioritizing service and not thinking too hard other than making sure food is fresh is probably sufficient. In summary, I would come back here and value and experience wise I think it's worth it. I might try different sides next time or just change my expectations. Staff were also pleasant and generous so overall this was a positive experience. read more

We enjoyed our meals here at Old Mill Restaurant. My only "gripe" - we went later thinking it wouldn't be busy... ha! Were we ever wrong. We waiting an hour and 15 mins for a table for 2. But the wait was worth it. They have a streamlined operation for sure. You put your name in and they will call you over a speaker system (that even goes into their store next door! Once seated, our server was there immediately. We had drinks within a minute and ordered. Salads and cornbread nuggets came out in the next 5 mins (or less!). Meals followed in maybe about 10 mins. Piping hot and very good. I didn't realize it was "family style" with the sides. We got a bowl of mashed potatoes and green beans with our dinners: Chicken and Dumplings for me, country fried chicken for my husband. Big servings so we have left overs for dinner tonight. Following the recommendation of my Yelp elites and tons of others we visited this restaurant. This is one of oldest restaurants in America and everything about this place is unique. The country vibe, decor and the ducks outside made it so beautiful. The southern hospitality as its best and EVERY dish prepared had a finest and amazing flavor. We ordered the country BBQ ribs with an order of the country fried chicken. Our dish came with soup, house salad, mashed potatoes and a dessert. As for drink we had the sweet tea. All am going to say about the entire experience is it was AMAZING. We enjoyed every bite. The ribs were tender, the chicken savory and very tasty. The hospitality of the staff was top notch and we had refills on our drinks without even asking and We didn't even had to wait much time for a table.
