Good times mocktail
Patricia E.

I love establishments that have outlasted hardships. I love exploring places of history. It's an honor to dine here and eat amazing food with my two favorite people-- my fiancée and little brother. Forgive me for my corniness. This place isn't just a historical landmark, it also has delicious food. Everything they served us at 10 pm was marvelous. It was also buzzing and BUSY. I wish we could stay in DC longer! Here's what we got: Mac and cheese appetizer Hummus appetizer Dozen oysters (2 of each!) Trout with fingerling potatoes, sliced almonds, capers (SOOOO SOFTTTTT) "good times" mocktail - sooooo goood I can't believe how great everything tasted. Thank you so much, Old Ebbit!!

Another amazing meal at Ebbitt! We celebrated our anniversary here today and had such a fabulous time. The bourbon cocktails were great, and the Oysters Rockefeller were amazing. I had the pork chop, which is actually the third time I've ordered it here. I just can't seem to order anything else because it's THAT good! Definitely a must-try. My guy had the halibut and loved it--it was outstanding! Our waiter was great and really made the evening special. Even though we were completely full, he surprised us with a complimentary key lime pie for our anniversary. Such a nice touch! Great food, great service, and a wonderful place to celebrate. We'll definitely be back!

The place is huge and busy but luckily they have four bars where you can find a seat last minute. We ordered shrimp cocktail, a half dozen oysters, and a steak with fries. Everything was sooo good! The steak was perfectly cooked and the butter and chimichurri just made it that much better. Everything else was fresh and the service was great.

Make a reservation!!! Very busy, and popular especially on the weekends. History of being one of the oldest saloons in DC, and of course a great location downtown. Can be pretty loud. Bar seating is first come first serve but I recommend booking the atrium because there's the most sunlight. Oysters! Very famous for the high quality at which they screen their oysters. Also, they have happy hour deals daily! The steak frites was excellent as well as the shrimp and grits. Purchased by the Clyde's franchise. Good service overall.

Our server was attentive and professional. The drinks were served instantaneously, and the food is amazing. The ambience is also quite fantastic.!

This was our third visit to Old Ebbitt Grill, and it still feels special every time. Our last visit was about 10 years ago, and we had been craving the crab claws we remembered from that trip, so this was the first place we wanted to eat. The menu has changed a bit, but we were definitely not disappointed. We ordered The Walrus, with 12 oysters of our choice, six jumbo shrimp, and six clams that we had steamed. As always, the presentation was beautiful and incredibly polished. The crab and artichoke dip was creamy, fresh, and absolutely delicious. Then I overheard a gentleman next to me tell the bartender that he comes in a couple times a year and always orders the same thing. Of course I had to ask what it was. The crab cake. So naturally, we ordered one -- and it was one of the best I've ever had. Mostly crab, very little filler, fresh, flavorful, and exactly what a great crabcake should be. Old Ebbitt definitely has a more refined, high-end feel, and the service consistently matches the setting. Whether it's the bartender or the person delivering your meal, the staff is attentive, professional, and polished. We also love sitting at the bar because the bartenders share stories about the history of Old Ebbitt Grill and you definitely feel like you're sitting inside a piece of Washington, D.C. history. Take a look downstairs as well -- there are some incredible historical pieces and old articles to see. Beautiful food, excellent service, timeless atmosphere, and so much history. Still one of my absolute favorite places in D.C.

Dropped in around 8:30 PM on a Wednesday night, and the place had a great, lively energy. Our server, Steven, was fantastic--super friendly and gave spot-on menu recommendations. My wife started with the clam chowder and ordered the shrimp pasta for her main (she dug in so fast I couldn't even snap a photo!). I started with the chili beans with all the fixings minus the sour cream, which was delicious and thankfully didn't fill me up too much before dinner. For my entree, I went with Steven's recommendation on the meatloaf, and he wasn't wrong! The meatloaf, house glaze, and mashed potatoes were outstanding. Whenever we're back in town from SoCal, this spot is definitely on our list.

Everything was truly amazing. I'm so happy I got to try this DC staple! Highlights we're definitely the oysters and the steak!

Yelp had a huuuuuge qty of reviews so I thought this joint might be good, and it didn't disappoint. There were people spilling onto the street waiting for a table, but being a "party of 1" I was able to find an open seat at the bar...score! Great selection of local brews. So I had a few! Opted for the filet and added a crab cake, because I'm in DC! Steak great! Crab cake..great! Just not a good deal for $25 add on... Cane with whipped potato which was very tasty and way more than one person should eat... I wrapped it all up with a seasonal peach cobbler, which also was massive, but I had little trouble finishing it! Ambiance is upscale saloon, service was friendly and attentive, and prices...well, this is steps from the White House, so... If I'm back in town I'll bring my bride... this joint makes the list!

Our downtown DC favorite for dinner or just cocktails. Updated classic dining. We usually try to secure seats at the main bar near the entrance. On our last visit there were no spots so we opted for the corner bar which was still lively. With four separate bars we were bound to find seats at one. The restaurant is expansive with a stately upscale saloon feel. The entrance is dramatic and the wooden soldiers flanking the doors during the holidays is always special. On this trip we shared the zucchini chips. They were thicker than expected and were lightly breaded and delicious. I usually get crabcakes but on this visit opted for the whole trout. I made a good choice. It was tender and flavorful and was dressed with green beans and toasted almonds for a nice combination of textures. The brown butter was yummy. My companion had the spicy sausage garganelli which the diners next to us had and highly recommended. The pasta was done perfectly al dente. It was savory and delicious and definitely something we'd order again. The staff there are true professionals. Our service was good overall although the food took a little long to arrive. My review is long overdue as we've been coming here for decades. We were there when the Clinton motorcade went by during his inauguration. The rich history and food make the Old Ebbitt Grill a favorite.

This restaurant is tradition anytime I'm back home in D.C. I've been coming here since I was a teenager with my parents and it was always a place we'd bring visiting family. I called ahead to make reservations for me and my daughter and we enjoyed dinner and dessert. Service was excellent! No complaints

Oldest spot in DC! Wonderful place for any meal. Service is great and ambiance is old school luxury. I had a paper plane and the nicoise salad. Both were wonderful. I don't have anything bad to say about this spot. Do yourself a favor and go. Pro tip - make a res.

Whiskey Sour
Ethan S.

Great spot. Great atmosphere. Great drinks. I was really impressed with Old Ebbitt Grill. My buddy and I were able to snag some seats at one of the bars, and we immediately ordered drinks. I got their take on a Whiskey Sour. 10/10 drink. I noticed on the menu that they added some maple and lime zest in there, which isn't common for a Whiskey Sour. However, I found that this really elevated the drink from above average to excellent. I then ordered a Negroni after this, and it was also phenomenal. We didn't get much food-wise, just split a Bacon Cheeseburger and Fries. Nothing to complain about there. The Cheeseburger was juicy and full of flavor. I also cannot rave enough about the atmosphere inside. This place has four different bars, we only got to explore two of them. It's fancy and very well-kept inside. The service is top-notch, and it really is just a fun spot to dress up and stop by for a drink with friends. I'll be trying some more of their food the next time I'm in DC; because I'll definitely be returning! Thank you Old Ebbitt for the great experience.

About an hour to an hour and a half. Went last Saturday night and it was about that long.

What time does the kitchen close?

Def way past midnight

How much is corkage fee?

Corkage is $15.

Is the happy hour only at the bar? Should I make a reservation for the late night happy hour?

As far as I know happy hour pertains to the bar (at least when I've gone), but they have at least four bars- one in each room upstairs. I can't remember if there's a bar downstairs.…

Do you need a reservation for a Tuesday evening?

Always make reservations there. That place is usually packed

I started here for my birthday with some escargots, fantastic. Pro-Tip: Don't forget you can dip that terrific breadbasket they give you with some of the leftover garlic sauce from your escargots. We both decided to split the Beef Bourguignon. The most tender beef you can imagine, you do not need a knife to eat, and it was accompanied with buttery goodness in the creamy potatoes and some carrots for good measure. For dessert we ordered the vanilla bean crème brûlée. French dessert at a French restaurant was a no brainer. The top of the dessert packed a crispy, sugary, slightly burnt tasting palate cleanser that definitely will keep you a pick me up, who needs an ECT shock to get the heart going when you can take a scoop of pure sugary bliss! Honestly we were so pleasantly surprised by how good the burgers are! I had the Capital Burger which had such incredible flavor and the burger itself is thick and juicy. Despite having just had a big dinner somewhere else, as I write this, my mouth is watering. My daughter had the wild mushrooms burger and she loved it -- the aioli had the perfect tang to go with the mushroom and Swiss, both burgers were cooked perfectly medium as requested. The old fashioned was just your typical old fashioned with a slice of candied bacon attached to the outside of the glass. We were hoping for something smokier and a little different but it was still a very good Old Fashioned. We shared the chocolate mousse and it was perfection. Yum! I had the blue cheese and black truffle cheeseburger, with bacon, and it was good. . Very good. I could not identify or really pinpoint where the black truffles came in, but the beef was well seasoned. The additions were a dollar too expensive across the board so I skipped those. The fries were sort of stereotypical, nothing really fancy about those. I debated about having the truffle fries, but didn't really wanna pay the extra three dollars. Bless my server, he didn't know what black truffles were, either. The Reesie's peanut butter cup Skrewball milkshake was quite good. Good use of Skrewball. Could've done with a little more alcohol, but what a great combination. Good taste. Vanilla ice cream and peanut butter all the way through. My only .. concern.. were the pickles. There's this NoVA chain restaurant that serves POPCORN before the meal, which I think has to be the most depressing, unappetizing, lazy and cheap way to start a meal. Capital Burger servers sliced sweet pickles in a jar. That.. is a step up from popcorn, but not by much... If I was in the mood for a burger and boozy milkshake, this would be on the list, but not my first choice.
