Have driven through Blanco and didn't realize this place existed until it was recommended to me by a distant Texas cousin. I've eaten Texas brisket and many great places including restaurants in Austin, San Antonio, Luling, Lockhart, Junction, and New Braunfels. For taste, price and serving size, Old 300 is a great bet. It lives up to all the hype. We had the El Hefe, slice brisket sandwich and cream corn. Also tried the peach cobbler. It was ok, but the star is the brisket. All were excellent. The portion sizes are very large. The service is friendly. You have to try this place. Oh, we came on a Thursday evening and it was not crowded, but we were told the weekends can by very busy. I can't say I'm very trusting of eateries with "bbq" plastered in their names, so it usually takes some serious strong-arming to get me to try even one of them out. As luck would have it, strong-arming was part of the agenda when I took my parents on a day trip from San Antonio and a strong case of the hungries hit my mom right outside of Blanco, TX. We sat in the parking lot of a bank, Yelp app opened, to look for a place to calm our growing hanger angst. Old 300 popped up and I was outvoted 2 to 1. The strong-arming ensued, and I, as luck would have it, succumbed to the "peer" pressure. Old 300 has small-town charm coming out of every nook and cranny. All the details are thought of and accounted for, right up to the rusty International L-120 pickup sitting in the parking lot with "Old 300 BBQ: Come & Eat It" proudly displayed across the driver-side door. Once inside, the charm keeps coming, as to be expected. But all the charm in the world amounts to a big, fat nothing if the food can't keep up. Old 300 has NO problem in this department, though. We all ordered brisket sandwiches and once we got them, they were piled high and served fresh and hot. Most bbq joints serve sandwiches on plain white bread, which is fine by me, but Old 300 goes the extra mile with a hoagie, nice and toasted. The generous portion of tender brisket slices are welcome, and the sauce station gives you plenty of choices to pour over your barbecue--but spicy is always the right choice for me! (I must admit that I drowned that sandwich in sauce because it was THAT good. This is not a usual move for me, so I highly recommend exploring your delicious options.) I know it's not customary to order fries as your bbq accompaniment, but I'm a trash foodie and when I have fries as an option, I'm going to take it. I'm glad I did. Everyone knows the cardinal rule of fried potatoes is: eat them all because cold/reheated fries are garbage. It doesn't matter how wonderful they are fresh out of the fryer--they have a shorter life than a fruit fly. I know it and you know it. Old 300's fry portion is more than enough for 3 people, especially because the sandwiches are large enough to put you in a coma. So I made peace with the fact that there was no way I was going to finish those suckers. I reluctantly and mournfully packed them away, knowing full well they would get tossed the second I got home. But I'll let you in on a little secret. Sometimes--and don't tell my boyfriend this--I'm wrong. Old 300's well-seasoned, batter-dipped fries beautifully lived past the French fry's normal life expectancy, and I had a delightful midnight snack. If you find yourself aimlessly and happily driving toward Blanco, TX, do yourself a favor and stop by Old 300. They treat you right and serve up some hearty bbq! read more

Well worth the trip north from San Antonio, considering the traffic from North San Antonio puts you about the same half hour distance into downtown. The selection was spot on, all bbq was cooked to perfection without any overbearing smokiness. The sides and desserts were all spot on with the portions sizing and pricing. This is a review for their Gold Belly offerings. We usually order from Snows, but have Old 300 BBQ a try based on price and to try something new. With guests coming for SuoerBowll I ordered a half brisket/half smoked Turkey everyone was hungry when they got here and I reheated it based on instructions that came in the box. The entire brisket was a slab of fat. We had 4lbs of fat, and maybe a pound of edible meat. The only meat was on the sides (burnt ends). Suffice to say SB food was pretty much a flop. The turkey was 5/5. I paid almost $150 and it was the worst $150 I've spent. Please do better read more

Once upon a time, there lived a naive young woman who thought Rudy's barbecue was delicious. While she certainly wouldn't rank barbecue among her favorite foods, it was perfectly adequate and nice to have occasionally. Then, one day, this woman moved to Blanco and ate at Old 300... and other barbecue was eternally ruined. From that day forward, every barbecue place was compared to Old 300... and they always lost. Now, this woman is a regular at Old 300, eating there at least once a week. The woman lived happily ever after, voraciously enjoying her turkey, fried okra and sweet, delicious sauce. The end. I've tried every entree served here and can say that I've never had better of whatever I ate. When I'm trying to watch my weight, I enjoy the turkey, but when I'm having a cheat meal, you can't go wrong with jalapeno sausage, the Akaushi brisket or, when I want some variety, their extraordinarily special barbecue quesadillas. I like their healthier options of green beans and pinto beans, but I lovvve their cream corn or potato salad. I don't even worry about getting there when lots of things are sold out... I'm confident anything they have left will be delicious anyway. Service is wonderful and I'm now a first name basis with many of the employees. Everyone is kind and professional and the environment is quite welcoming. As a former Austinite moving to a Conservative small town, their environmentally conscious choices to reduce packaging and recycle deserve a special shout out. Best BBQ in a while. 2 lunch specials w Brisket sandwiches, a healthy side of Cole slaw and amazing cream corn w 2 large sweet teas for about $15. Perfect pickles, crunchy and thin. Pickled onions, wow. Flavorful sweet BBQ sauce and not to hot, hot BBQ sauce. Best random find this trip. Next time we will plan to spend morning in Blanco river/state park and head here after. Drive from Austin to Blanco for a organization meeting hosted at Old 300 BBQ. The space was very accommodating, the staff payed wonderful attention to us working in the background as we had discussion. The meeting ended with a catering style lunch. The brisket was moist as was the smoked turkey, nothing spicy or over powered with a rub or spice but just good old fashioned smoked flavor (which is what you're typically looking for). Macaroni and cheese was exceptional alongside ending with a cup of homemade banana pudding. Absolutely delicious! The line was out the door when we got here but it goes pretty quickly. We decided the 4 of us would get the family pack. We had brisket and ribs, potato salad coleslaw fries and Mac and cheese with a gallon of sweet tea. The line moves fast. They moved some tables together for our group (there was 12 total or more and we all sat in the garage. People in our group all had different desserts and we all loved what we had. Very good bbq. We saw it in Daytripper and decided to take a spin out there. Lots of options with the food. Brisket is quite juicy. Serving is plentiful. Ol 'wow on that baked potato. My mother and father in law recommend we give this place a try and I'm glad we did. My boyfriend and I were actually driving around for about an hour or so trying to find something to eat and we noticed we were already driving towards Blanco so we decided "hey why not give it a try" plus BBQ sounded so good! The restaurant is in a nice little town surround by lots of history. It is a clean restaurant as well with a very Texas feel. The service was good and the wait was a little long but that was not a problem. I definitely didn't want them to rush. We ordered angus brisket, ribs, sausage, coleslaw, and French fries. Try it with the original sauce--it's not too sweet and it's seemingly made for their delectable bird. OMG. This is a great bbq place. We had pork ribs, brisket and jalapeño sausage. It was so good. Tasty great bbq. The spicy barbecue sauce is so amazing made everything so scrumptious. We also had the creamed corn, yummy creamy warm deliciousness. The beans were good not sweet but just cooked right. We tried the corn muffin nice and big. The best of small town Texas. Local BBQ joint on the town square serving up great BBQ, cold beer and good times! Stopped in for lunch with friends and had a great time. Stopped in for lunch after seeing their Yelp reviews and were NOT disappointed! There's BBQ on every corner in Hill Country but this was some of the best around. This place is a good place to eat but it's not a destination. The people are friendly and most of the items are very good. I have been there two times, left satisfied, but was not blown away. The Akuashi brisket is moist, flavorful, and smokey. It's probably the star of the menu. The bark is a little on the salty side, which I happen to like, but I wish it had more pepper, garlic and/or paprika in it. The turkey is moist and tender (In fact, the texture, is among the best I have had) but the flavor is pretty plain. I wish they would have rubbed under the skin more and found a way to get more smoke into it. The Jalepeno Sausage is above average and the pork line is good. So, for sides, I had Mac & Cheese and Beans. Both excellent. The Mac and Cheese is good enough on its own to make a meal out of it. The blackberry cobbler was excellent too. On my second visit, I got the Hot Willie. It wasn't really what I was expecting. The individual components were good but altogether it could have been, and should have been, something more. They just put Brisket, Pork Loin, and Jalepeno Sausage on bread -- all of this is good, but it wasn't really a sandwich; it was a bunch of stuff on bread. It wasn't chopped, mixed with any BBQ, and didn't have any other ingredients, not even cheese. There is so much potential here to be a signature/destination sandwich... When I am in Blanco I would go there again but I wouldn't go out of my way to get there if I wasn't already in the area. read more

I tried this barbecue on two separate occasions and the barbecue was terrible. When I cut into my sausage it's spewed out like cream of corn. Totally disgusting I've never had sausage that's just almost liquid. The brisket was over smoked and tasted terrible, very dry, maybe they put a liquid smoke on it and overcooked it. It was extremely dry and lacked flavor. The meat was like warm and I wouldn't be surprised if it was left over from days prior. The ribs a little better. Still they lacked flavor and were dry. My friend got brisket and sausage and was underwhelmed by the sausage as well. The side dishes were amazing! Between the two of us we got the Mac and cheese, green beans and French fries! There's something wrong whenever your side dishes outshine your main attraction! The staff was extremely friendly and we liked the atmosphere. I also feel that this place was a little pricey. Instead of offering plates, they charge for meat and sides separately. I honestly wouldn't mind paying the money if the meat was killer. read more
