Next to the Valero in Blanco. People were leaving as we got there around 10am. Friendly when we walked in, bathroom was clean, server was friendly & attentive for the most part. To me the food was very good. If the server would've come back after we were finished I would've ordered another taco & told him that checking out. But maybe I'm glad he didn't :). Can Glenda go 3 days without Mexican food? Nope! Family owned and tied to a donut shop. Interesting! Mom and dad were cooking and their son was our waiter. A big menu, but I wanted something simple. My taco and tostada were excellent, and the enchilada was very good. Glenda got the Chicken Monterrey which was covered in onion, tomato and bell pepper, then covered in white queso! It was delicious and I stole a few bites! Definitely a good place to come back to. read more

Sorry, but this has to be the worst Tex Mex we ever have eaten. The cheese on the enchiladas and nachos did not melt. It seemed synthetic. The fajita meat was extremely bland. The salsa was ok though. We asked what the spices were in the Carne Guisado and were told "it comes in a package" and she did not know. Service was pleasant. We were visiting the area over Memorial weekend. And we had asked where we could find good mexican food and were recommended this restaurant. Pass it up. Go to The Bistro. It's not mexican but you will NOT be disappointed. read more

Found this place heading home from Austin. Family owned and quite busy but still got seated right away. Chips were fresh and loved the homemade salsa. Food came out hot and fast. I had the Burrito Loco and my wife had the Mexican Plate. My burrito was huge and stuffed with tons of nicely seasoned meat. My wife really enjoyed the plate. The taco had potatoes in it which she really likes. I had a taste of her chicken enchilada in what I think was ranchero sauce. Very tasty. Price very reasonable and had a chance to meet the owners on the way out. Always nice to support hard working local businesses. read more

This is my first and last time ordering breakfast tacos to-go. I ordered over $60 dollars worth of tacos and what a huge disappointment. The tacos were so small and underfiled. The carne guisada tacos had 4 pieces of meat in each of them. Their was maybe a teaspoon of beans in the bean and cheese tacos. I will never recommend this place for breakfast tacos. I basically paid $60 for a few flour tortillas. We've had wonderful experiences while dineing-in. Except the shrimp enchiladas are awful. Come on guys, do better. read more

Crazy its been 11 years since we ate here....and it was for breakfast....Here for lunch this round.....Service was friendly and fast....Chips, Queso and Salsa to start....Everything was good, but the bottled red sauce they brought out with the meal made the queso that much better....We are torn on this review as the wife usually get enchilada, but this time she went with the mini tacos with Pastor...and they were fantastic...easily 5 stars just for flavor...we both enjoyed the rice....I went with the combo plate with beef enchiladas and a crispy taco....food was piping hot but a tad on the bland side....that bottled red sauce helped everything along....my dish was 2 stars for sure....so we landed at 3 stars for El Charro. read more

This place deserves nothing less than 5 stars!! Some of the best taqueria style Mexican food I've had anywhere in Texas. Free refills on great coffee too? What else can you ask for from the local Mexican restaurant in Blanco. We came here visiting from Houston for a friend's wedding, and this was the perfect wake up call the morning after the wedding. 3 huge breakfast tacos for $4.49. Barbacoa, egg, potato, pico, breakfast plates for $9. Amazing breakfast specials, and great local vibes are plenty here. And don't get me started on their homemade tortillas and salsas, simply bliss. I wish we could stay for lunch and dinner next time. This place alone is worth the visit to Blanco, TX! We'll be back again soon I'm sure. read more

Stopped by this location since it was the only one local to the area that was open early. This appears to be a locals spot with quick service and a decent menu of breakfast and lunch items. Great food and service! Came here for dinner as I was leaving Fredericksburg to go to my hotel. Not much was open and this was a life saver for a really nice late night cheap eats! Hope they get their liquor license soon as I will be coming back again. read more

I moved to this small town 6 months ago. This place has about saved my life. I didn't realize how much I would have to drive just to get anywhere that I get so tired to cook. Plus the nearest decent grocery store is 30 min away in 4 different directions. Open every day and later than most other places around with options that's not fried food, burgers, and pizza. On to the food. This place can rival any decent taqueria in Houston (known for their Mexican and Tex Mex). Prices are fair, staff is friendly but also straight to the point which I appreciate, they have a patio, breakfast and lunch specials, and last but not least in the parking lot is a car wash and a gas station. It's not theirs but nice to throw errands all together. read more

The restaurant was rather small, but that was not the issue. The food was mediocre. It was just OK. The service was just OK as well. You won't see any smiling faces working in this restaurant. I probably would never return for sure here, but at least I gave them a try... my husband had her breakfast and he said it was OK and I'm like breakfast is really simple and easy to make and if it's just OK then with me that is not OK lol. I had the cheese enchiladas, carne guisada with rice and beans. The enchiladas are kind of hard and plastic cheese on top not really good. The meat was not too bad, but did not have a flavor that style of food should've had. We were sad to find out that the flour tortillas or store-bought you know that smell they have. read more

This small Mexican place has relatively high prices, more on-par with restaurants just a little bit fancier. The server was slow with the coffee refills. Since most people were eating pancakes and sausage, that's what I ordered. It was decent; hard to go wrong with eggs and pancakes. The sausage was odd. Everyone had sausage patties, but they gave me a flattened link of kielbasa or something. Maybe they had run out of the patties? I don't know. read more

A good 4/5 stars. Better than A-OK but not fantastic. A little rough around the edges but great value for good Tex Mex. This place is walking distance from where we're staying in Blanco. We got takeout the first night and it hit the spot... and I found out it's BYOB, which led to us bringing cervezas the next evening. :) I got street tacos, which they call taquitos (more traditional name, vs American taquitos which are basically flautas). They were very good, but not quite great. I tried barbacoa (yum), grilled chicken (good), shredded chicken (very good). Funny - the to-go order came with onions and cilantro, but the in-house meal did not. Quirky. My wife got basic cheese enchiladas the first night, which she liked. She tried a chimichanga the second night, and I quote - the worst she's ever had. So! Maybe don't order that... Rice and beans were solid both nights. Not amazing, but good Tex Mex style. The chips are clearly fried in house and they were stout - hardy and good. The "chip salsa" is okay, the salsa roja that comes with food was not my style (but was okay, I guess), and the green salsa (also comes with meals) was easily my favorite. It's a jalapeno salsa. Yum. Great spiciness and flavor. The patio is small (as is the interior of the restaurant), on a wooden deck, and nicely shaded by a huge tree. *But* it is also not the best spot as it seemed to be near some trash or dumpster. Lot of flies. Also next to a car wash, so... meh. But we have kids, so patios are usually preferable and we did not regret our choice. Service was very friendly but a tad spotty on the patio. I kinda get it - we were the only ones out there. But there were NOT many people inside, so... so-so service. But she was so sweet. I'd go back. This restaurant is small and next to a bakery. Both sit in the same parking lot as a gas station and car wash. We ordered the Enchilada Combo plate. The taco was light and crunchy, and the enchiladas were covered in a rich homemade sauce and lots of cheese. The food was good. We tasted some flavors were weren't used to but they were a nice surprise. The staff was nice and cheerful. I think I'd stop here again to try other items on the menu. read more

This place is kind of a mess. Staff are friendly and helpful, but pretty much everything else about the restaurant needs improvement. The booth we sat in joined up against a window whose sill was full of leftover crumbs and bits of food from previous patrons. The complimentary salsa tasted a lot like ketchup, and the accompanying chips were cold. My smothered burrito was okay in the middle, but the smothering agent was some kind of synthetic cheese that began to skin over as I was working in the burrito... I scraped it off. The Spanish rice had peas in it, but no flavor to speak of. Refried beans lacked seasoning, side salad was kinda wilted. Wife's fried shrimp had evidently been purchased from a frozen foods truck and fried in worn-out oil at too low a temperature for way too long, leaving them soggy, greasy, and slightly burned. I'm a native New Mexican, so I've been to my share of Mexican restaurants. This one is worth avoiding. read more

We were driving through Blanco looking for a place for breakfast and everything we tried was closed. We decided to go to the donut shop and saw Hacienda right behind them so we're thrilled. I REALLY want to like this place. I REALLY DO. I just can't in good conscience recommend this place. I am writing this review so if anyone comes this way to visit Blanco, TX I want to warn them NOT to stop here. I moved to the area 3 years ago and I have attempted and given this location plenty of opportunities to get better. They do have their off days and actually make a good taco. The menudo I will have to say is pretty edible and not to greasy at all. I marvel in the fact that each time I order any taco with chorizo it is like they forget about it and cook it until it is just about burnt and black in the taco but at least it matches the brown eggs they don't even attempt to mix it in. A taco with beans and chorizo or egg and chorizo is not a layered taco it should all be mixed in. I have had out of towners come and we tried it and I was so embarrassed I ordered multiple tacos and they were so inedible we dumped them and went to a different restaurant in town. Also, any taqueria worth its tacos should not use store bought tortillas. Like I said before, I live in the town and wish I could recommend this place but if anyone is coming up from San Antonio stop along the way at one of the multitude of taco trucks and stands along the way. Maybe I'll give them another shot if I am still here in another three years. read more
