A few years way back an El Agave opened up in Johnson City. I've never dined there citing a motorcycle club near famous buddy telling me to run away. Famous like Dennis Rodman, Moby, Madonna at that club. Needless to say I trust her food judgement; more than most. Even my closest friends betray my expectations somehow. Flash forward and wife and I were headed towards our next free (BS) oil change in Boerne. El Agave #2 is obviously the second off shoot of the original in JC. Converted gas station complete with drive thru window. We walk into the usual almost neon signs and Mexico made dining booths. VAPE SHOP NEXT DOOR! Honestly, I've got to promote the iced tea. Even took one togo. Because, that was what I would recommend out of our dining experience. Chips were akin to stale thinner wheat thins. Worst chips in recent memory. Who cares about all the salsas offered when there isn't a vessel for delivery. She had a Taco Salad and I had the combo plate of SA famous Puffy Taco and Enchilada. BTW, no tomato component on the rice. Carrots and peas. Rice, deplorable. Beans, OK. I asked for a Sour Cream sauce on my enchilada only to get cheese. Filling correct; they opted to just leave the sauce off completely. Didn't even eat half of the food. Never stopping here again. read more

We wanted a sit-down table service early Sunday morning and arrived shortly after 6am. They were definitely open for business with other tables seated. The breakfast tacos were larger than expected with a good chorizo-to-egg ratio. They use real cheese and the flour tortillas are the thick soft kind that I have come to associate with the San Antonio area. The Miga Plate includes refried beans, potatoes, and BACON, 2 stips, and 2 tortillas, corn or flour. The corn tortilla chunks were warm and crunchy on the outer edges and the real cheese provides a fun cheese pull. IYKYK. They use fresh onions, jalapeños, and tomatoes, bringing a mild heat element to the scrambled egg mixture. The server was attentive and efficient. In my opinion, the dine-in experience is better here than the Mexican food place across the street. Overall, we had a great experience. read more

I brought the whole family and guests to try out El Agave. It doesn't look fancy from the outside, but inside it's very nice We all had margaritas which were delicious and then we had the queso, a fan favorite! We tried the carne guisada which was amazing. One of the guys grew up eating Lengua and he ordered that and absolutely loved it. My son ordered the Monterrey Plate which was absolutely the most delicious chicken I have ever had. Others had tacos and enchiladas which were also delicious- perfectly cooked. Lastly we tried the chocolate flan and I can highly recommend! The service was excellent and I highly recommend this restaurant!! read more

The food is great. I had the chili rellieno with an enchilada and my GF had the Mexican plate. There was more than enough food on the plates. In fact she couldn't finish hers there was so much. The service was very good . I would stop here again if we are in the area. read more

The workers -especially the 2 men working the drive thru with their Edgar haircuts, are total thief's. The last two times I've been through the drive thru they have tried to not give me my cash change (and I'm talking $30 of change on a $50.) because they thought I was distracted, and not paying attention. I had to double back for it when I realized what happened. When I first went in, and spoke to the manager the dude tried to lie about it, and then the manager ended up walking to the back, and giving me back my due change! This is while the guy who ripped me off was standing there arguing with me tell me to "f*** off!" Last night they gave me a total of $31.22, and ran my business card for $37.46 which is the total plus 20% tip! When the guy handed me the receipt I called him out on the total being off, and showed him the text where he charged my card $37.46 & like always he just plays stupid. They CONSTANTLY get everyone's order's wrong, and then when you try and get them to rectify it -they pretend like they don't speak English, try and turn it on you etc. This is happening to multiple people in town. I even spoke to someone else who said he watched a waitress make a phone call with his credit card. When he confronted her about it, an argument ensued & he received two text himself from his bank-where they had charged him 2 entirely separate amounts from his actual total. This restaurant CHAIN seems to be a whole issue, and not just in blanco, but in Johnson city, and have heard complaints as far from us as Victoria. If you're in Blanco don't waste your time, or money. Go across the street to El Ranchero. The food is way better, the service is excellent, and they don't rip people off right in front of their faces. This place will never get my business again, and I will be trying to warn everyone of how they continously steal from their customers. read more

Ambiance is old school, staff is friendly and helpful and the food authentic, plentiful, delicious and inexpensive!! Had the Barbacoa plate, the pastor plate was well seasoned and the Birria possibly the best I've eaten- flavorful consumme that wasn't greasy. Would definitely come back when in town. Stopped overnight in Blanco and the desk clerk recommended El Agave for Mexican food. The Mango Margarita was fantastic, made with pureed mango, not mango flavored liquor. The Ground beef nachos were loaded with toppings. The Chile Relleno plate came with rice, beans, salad, and a cheese enchilada. Arturo was a fantastic server! The food was fresh and delicious and we had excellent service. This will be a go to when we visit Blanco again.

Very good authentic food. Server was nice. The decor is really neat and definitely looks like something from Mexico. The menu is huge and I wish I had more time to look over it. However, everything we ate was good. Enchilada were incredible. The tortillas too! Even had room to take our truck and travel trailer which is tough to do sometimes. We will be back if and when we are in Blanco again. read more

Well I will have to say I have mixed feelings but I keep going back to give them chances. On the first part the food is always delicious and flavorful and hot. Now, whether or not You get your correct food in the first try is a bit of a gamble and has started getting real old, especially when your 7 year old warns you not to leave when we go through drive thru because she is sure something will be missing or wrong. When we dine-in the location is clean and I love the ambiance created by the decor. The service as well is great. The servers are friendly and pretty attentive, but much more if you order alcohol. If they are advised something is wrong or missing just make sure it isn't erroneously still on the check. We have had many a time when the order is entered correctly but for some reason the kitchen still made incorrectly, but once you get the correct order it is absolutely delicious. So all I can say it is a gamble if you decide to try it. It is the best restaurant in our little town if I don't want to travel 30 minutes. So the food is delicious but it's 50/50 if you have to ask for the correct order a second time. read more

I've only been here once and got the mini street tacos. I got Al pastor and carne asada. The pastor tacos were pretty good but the asada felt a little dry it was ehh. The churro beans are good though. Service was good - I went through the drive-thru and you could tell the food was freshly made because it was nice and hot. read more

Service was good, not stellar. Had to ask for obvious things like for refills or the chip basket was empty. The beef fajitas for 2 was good but very chewy. Apparently they don't marinate before cooking. The charo beans were horrible. No taste what so ever. This place is probably the best they have in this area but I would not go out of my way to eat here again read more
