It was a really hot day and it was really stuffy inside the restaurant. The fan really didn't cut it. They need to turn on the air conditioner or open the door. I was dripping in sweat by the time I was done with my beef noodle soup. The beef noodle soup was pretty disappointing. The soup had no flavor but meat tasted pretty good, which is odd since the meat is cooked in the soup. The noodles were also well cooked but the addition of the pieces of carrots and cabbage were not necessary and weird. I asked for extra extra sour mustard and made the soup edible. The last resort would've been to add soy sauce. The others ordered vegetarian dishes, which I tasted and thought we're OK. The stinky tofu was definitely not stinky enough. However, the staff was extremely friendly, even though they were extremely busy with all the takeout orders. They even brought separate, dipping sauces, one vegetarian, the other not for the stinky tofu. The whole thing was weird, since this is a sister store to OK Canaan, when I had the beef noodle soup over there, the soup had great flavor, but the beef was crappy, and the noodles were overcooked. And the stinky tofu over there was pretty stinky. It's almost like everything is opposite. Would I go there again? Maybe. I brought my sister a pork chop over rice to go and she said it was delicious. So if I'm ever craving that, I might try it. I love good old Taiwanese breakfast on the weekends. It's totally worth getting up early for. It ends early at 11am, so don't oversleep. My favorites are the vegetarian panda fantuan, salty soybean milk, sweet soybean milk and radish pastry. It's so good. My mom said they have the best fantuan in Flushing. They also have shao bing (toasted sesame flat bread) and Dan bing (egg pancake) options for breakfast but I get the panda fantuan which is very filling. It's half purple and white rice with a fried cruller, stewed egg, and pickled radishes. I also like their oyster pancake and stinky tofu. I would like to try more dishes but usually go for the Taiwanese favorites since that's what I crave. read more

Our friends highly recommended us to try their braised fried tofu so we decided to give them another chance. We made a dinner pick up on a Saturday at 5:30 pm and they had our order of total 5 dishes prepared on time. Their lunch & dinner menu was decent and much better than their breakfast. This was my first time trying stinky tofu and an oyster omelette. I was told that the stinky tofu here is mild. It seemed stinky enough but not overpowering. I really liked the crunchy outer texture. The oyster omelette was challenging to cut but I enjoyed the mix of flavors and textures. I also got a coconut milk-based drink with tapioca, custard and bluish jelly. Came by on a Saturday morning to get my Taiwanese breakfast fix! There's such a shortage of Taiwanese spots in NYC, and OK Ryan serves up some truly authentic, no frills, Taiwanese fare. Ordered the dan bing (egg crepe roll), black rice fan tuan (rice roll with fried dough stick, pickled vegetables, and pork floss), radish pastries, and hot soy milk. Everything was super fresh, and I especially liked the fan tuan-- served warm and the dough stick was still hot and crispy. The place is run by a Taiwanese bunch that remind me of my aunties and uncles in Taipei! Will definitely be making the "trek" from Manhattan more often. Authentic Taiwanese food. I ordered the Taiwanese stinky tofu, soy milk, the braised pork over rice and the pickled cabbage duck blood soup. My favorite was the braised pork over rice. It was super yummy and the tea egg is just how my mom makes it. The stinky tofu was stinky haha but it was really good with the sauce. The pickled cabbage soup was also pretty good but it wasn't my favorite. Probably because I don't particularly enjoy duck blood. Finally, of course the soy milk is solid. The price came out to be about $40 total. The soup portion was huge. It was probably meant to be shared between 3 people. I have been going to Taiwan every year since I was 2 years old. Due to the current situation, I definitely won't be traveling anytime soon. Taiwanese breakfast culture is a big deal. They take breakfast seriously there. If you haven't had a Taiwanese breakfast experience, you are definitely missing out on some yummy goodness. Not sure why Taiwanese breakfast isn't a thing here in NY, but even finding a Taiwanese owned & operated restaurant is very rare these days. I definitely was having withdrawals on all foods Taiwanese so when I heard from a colleague that Ok Ryan served Taiwanese breakfast, I knew I had to make a trip out there. They only serve their breakfast menu on weekends, and from 9am - 11am. If you go any other day or time, you are outta luck! If I'm going on a food adventure I like to be prepared and do some research ahead of time. Lol b/c gas is expensive and I'm not driving somewhere only to be disappointed. I actually made my mother call the day before to 1) verify that the breakfast menu is available on Saturdays 2) see if they really are Taiwanese 3) if they could make modifications to the rice rolls/fan tuan (vegetarian friendly). It was "YES" all across the board. The woman (who was very warm and friendly) advised us to call in our order early, before 9am. She said we could pick it up anytime, even past 11am. She said they get swamped from 9am and on so they might not even be able to answer the phone to take orders. We asked about the parking situation (which is horrendous in Flushing) and was told they have 3 parking spaces out front, but if those are occupied, we can park on the side of the street and call them for curbside pickup. I went to pickup my order at around 11:30am on a Saturday, the parking spaces were all empty. They are located on College Point Blvd, close to Sky View, in a strip mall, next to Dunkin. The interior was definitely a no frills type of place. The staff was very polite and hospitable, they were definitely Taiwanese. I did make a mistake and not check my bag to make sure everything was inside tho. They forgot one of the things I was definitely craving for, shaobing you tiao/ flakey sesame bread with fried cruller sandwich. My order came out to a little over $60. I think if you want the ideal experience, definitely try to eat in the restaurant so it's fresh and hot. My favorite was definitely the rice rolls. I suggest getting the Panda Rice roll, it's pretty unique and aesthetic looking with 1/2 white and 1/2 purple rice. I never seen that in Taiwan be4. They typically come with pork floss but I opted for a vegetarian version. The dan bing with cheese / egg crepe with cheese was good too. The egg crepe with the fried cruller was soggy, def didn't travel well. I feel like the pricing was a bit high, I wasn't expecting Taiwan prices but $6.50 for a rice roll or $6.75 for 2 puff pastries is a bit expensive. In regards to the missing item, when we called, the woman who answered was very apologetic and asked if we would like to come back to pick it up. When we said we live out on Long Island, she said to keep our receipt and took down our name & phone number for a store credit. I was leaning towards 3 stars but due to how nice they were, I didn't have the heart LOL so make sure you check your order before you leave!!! Hole in the wall Taiwanese place! My bf and I came here in search of a sit down Taiwanese breakfast which is quite hard to find in NYC. OK Ryan really satisfied the craving and then some!! We dined in, and while there were a few other tables, their takeout side was insane - so many orders! We had the fan Tuan, egg with scallion pancake, clay oven bread with beef and pickles, and their radish cake. The fan tuan is small but the price reflects that - inside is filled with you tiao, pickles, and pork floss that was so good! I wish there was an option to add an egg. Their radish cake and scallion pancake were also both delicious! The beef clay oven bread sandwich was just okay for us - probably would skip this next time to try something else. Don't forget their hot soymilk - perfect to round everything off!! Overall, this place is a few min walk from downtown flushing, and is a delicious place for a weekend Taiwanese breakfast. I have finally found my favorite TW place to eat in NY. I even would say it's as good as Irvine, CA places. We went for lunch and got a few items from their lunch menu which come with a soup and a bowl of rice and a few other dishes from their regular menu. Service was intermittently slow which was irritating only Bc we got some dishes but the woman promised she would bring the rice 2x and was just too busy (and I wanted / NEEDED to have my rice with my food). The soup was so good!! I would say everything was delicious and portions were proportional to the prices. The quality of the food was amazing and nothing was overly salted (they don't use MSG here thank god) and there was just the right amount of oil on EACH dish. I can't get over how legit each of these dishes tasted to TW food back in the motherland!! Their hot chili oil (is made in house) but you have to ask for it. I have been coming here regularly a few times a month for over a year and I am never disappointed. They also take credit cards which is a plus. There are 2 parking spots (4 & 5) which I think you need to get a card / paper to place on your windshield since I heard her asking every customer who came in. IMPORTANT: DO NOT park in the Home Depot parking lot and leave the premises to come here or anywhere. There are people who watch the lot like hawks and will tow you. We came back from a quick lunch and lost our whole afternoon waiting for the truck to come back to us ($125+tax and its cash only). I haven't tried their dinner food yet, but they serve Taiwanese breakfast, which is even better imo! The Taiwanese breakfast is only available Sat and Sun from 8am-11am. They support contactless payment and you just pick up from the door, since they barred the entrance into the restaurant.. My favorite things to get: * Pork floss dan bing (肉鬆蛋餅) - The dan bing part is thick, but still comforting and very filling. This is my go-to breakfast item to get here. They have other flavors like corn, ham + egg, cheese, and youtiao. If you get the corn one, they'll add extra egg in it to hold the corn. * Shao bing w/ ham and egg (燒餅夾火腿蛋) - This is so much better than a breakfast sandwich. The shaobing is really crispy. * Shao bing w/ youtiao (燒餅夾油條) - For the carb on carb lovers. * Purple rice fan tuan (紫米飯糰) * Black same layer bread (芝麻千層餅) - This was flaky outside, QQ on the inside, and not too sweet. Surprisingly good. Breakfast isn't complete without soy milk! I usually get the hot soy milk with no sugar, which comes in a soup container. If you get the iced one, it'll come up in a cup with a straw. They also recently started making homemade mochi! I love beef stew with tendon and it's also my father's favorite dish so I had to try it here. It's pretty good. Not too salty but good flavor. The beef is tender. The tendon is so soft, you barely have to chew. The daikon is cut really small so it wasn't too flavorful but overall I really liked the food. I put a lil more spices when I make it at home but either way it's delicious. Really hearty on a cold night. Doesn't come with rice. For a Taiwanese restaurant they still have a lot of Cantonese dishes which is great so I'll try some of their other dishes next time. read more

This was my first visit to OK Ryan. It was a Sunday at 11:30am. I ordered the Taiwanese style lo mein. Staff was amazingly pleasant. I enjoyed my meal while listening to slow pop music and watching traffic outside the window. My meal was amazing as I worked on my rarely used chopstick skills although I was offered a fork. We ordered 5 dishes off of their Chinese New Year menu and 4 out of the 5 dishes failed miserably in both taste and portion given the exorbitant pricing (approx $240, Inc tax and tip for delivery). Also, all dishes arrived cold. The lobster fried noodle was $72 (before tax and tip) and had only one lobster and the noodles were bland. Each guest was left very disappointed. This place is a true hidden gem especially for Taiwanese food! A couple blocks away from Main Street and not too far away from Skyview Mall, this place is tucked away in a cluster of random shops. There are a limited number of parking spots in front, but those go quickly! Dishes Ordered: (Golden Double Egg Fried Rice) Great fried rice, wonderful combination of flavors! (Salty Crispy Shrimp) Cooked nicely! Not overly fried nor oily! Very crispy texture! (Salt & Pepper Pork Chop) That was my favorite dish we ordered that day! The Stinky Tofu is all the fermented pungency that your grandma used to fill up the house with on Saturday afternoons (or maybe just my grandma). The String Bean with Bean Curd, Salt & Pepper Shrimp and Ma-Po Spicy Tofu were all on point in their various concoctions. There is an understaffed issue. I live nearby and been to this restaurant for about 20+ times and things just got a little worse. Every visit the waiting time is longer and longer and it will take 30-40 minutes to get your food. Another thing is they will tell you price of the dishes will be higher than what's shown on their menu, without telling you the actual price so don't be surprised if you see your price included some hidden fees. read more

My mum recommended this place as she's been to the other branch (different name same owner) and we are near the mall. The interior is clean and comfortable and brings you OG authentic Taiwanese food! We ordered a couple of dishes and oh wowwwwww- it's amazing! We got the three cup chicken, fly's head (Chinese chives with pork), and steam fish filet with tofu dish. They even have house made plum drink that is so made fresh daily and so delicious to go with food! The price is also very decent and I will highly recommend this place. I've had this place bookmarked for quite some time. We ended up selecting this place by chance, while looking for places to eat. I shared the salt and pepper chicken and ordered a white rice. At first I was worried that this would be like popcorn chicken and that it would be too dry to eat on its own with just white rice. Surprisingly any additional sauce wasn't necessary. It was pretty good just on its own. Full disclosure - We asked the waiter if the dish was supposed to come with sauce and was told that people normally eat it without sauce in Taiwan.
