Great portions, friendly service, and the food was well balanced. I usually find popcorn chicken a little too salty at other places but thought this was tender and well seasoned.
Our server took the time to explain menu items and gave some suggestions. Started with a warm sweetened soy milk. Perfect for the chilly weather or if youre sensitive to cold drinks. The server mentioned that the beef pancake roll was a popular item so of course we ordered it. Saw some good reviews on Oyster omellette but it was not for me. The flavor was fine but the texture was very gelatinous.
I really enjoy their Taiwanese flavors. Decided to come here with my mom since dear child of mine met up with her friends in flushing and my mom lives close by. First time coming for dinner instead of lunch. I think they do a lot of business from lunch vs dinner but also could be because it's the day before Christmas Eve so we were the only patrons. Ordered popcorn chicken, crispy fried intestines and a tofu with string beans.
Stopped by Ryan Taiwanese Cuisine since it's close to where I work and I wanted to try some Taiwanese comfort dishes. I ordered the stinky tofu, smoked duck, fried chicken over rice, and garlic chicken over rice. The stinky tofu had a strong aroma as expected and a crispy exterior. The smoked duck had good flavor and was probably the highlight of the meal. The fried chicken and garlic chicken over rice were decent portions and filling, but nothing particularly memorable. The atmosphere inside feels a bit old and dark, which gives it a casual, no-frills vibe. Service was friendly and the staff were welcoming. Overall, the food was okay but on the pricier side for what you get. It's convenient if you're nearby and craving Taiwanese food, but it didn't really stand out compared to other spots.
Unfortunately this place has suffered significantly from Shrinkflation. I haven't been here in over 5 years and was shocked to discover it was not the place I remembered Such tiny bowls of soy milk and small portions of food. Really felt I was being nickled and dimed and they were getting away with serving the very bare minimum Sadly I was extremely disappointed but I suppose this is what the economy has become I will not be back
This cozy no frills spot serves pretty good Taiwanese food and you'll be in and out pretty quick! I was craving Taiwanese Beef Noodle soup and was walking by here so I knew I had to try it out. I think their noodles were yummy and the broth was quite rich. I also had the popcorn chicken and oyster omelet which at the time, I had just been excited to try more Taiwanese food in the city, since there aren't that many. The gumminess of the oyster omelet did throw me off a bit as I wasn't expecting that. I had expected more of a silky texture. The popcorn chicken was great and nicely fried and seasoned. Overall, it's a solid spot and would recommend their soup!
Nice and comfortable Taiwanese restaurant in Flushing. The staff is friendly and responsive. Space is kept clean and the staff is diligent in keeping it tidy. Food is fresh and piping hot and delicious!
The beef chow fun noodles were somewhat dried out during transit, but was flavorful. The spare ribs were decent, somewhat small but tasty. Shanghai noodles were prepared well.
OK Ryan serves authentic Taiwanese fare, notably crispy stinky (emphasis on stinky) tofu. When I ordered this dish for takeout, the stench was pervasive through the bag. Despite the smell which could fill an entire elevator lobby, the taste of the tofu was not overly sour or fermented, and the sweet soy based dipping sauce balanced each bite of tofu well. The pickled cabbage on the side was a nice, crisp palate cleanser! I also got the railroad lunch with soy braised chicken. While the rice box had a lot of food inside, the chicken was unfortunately overcooked and dehydrated. It was still enjoyable to eat all together, just a bit dry. Online ordering for the restaurant is pretty streamline. They made the food in less than the advertised 30 minutes. The menu is very jam packed and a little overwhelming - but they have all you could ask for from a Taiwanese food place.
Stopped here Sunday morning to get the best Taiwanese breakfast in town. They have the best soy milk and beef pancake you can get. No frill kinda place so don't expect the best service but the delectable food will make up for it! With inflation these days, it's hard to find places that don't charge $20 for a small appetizer. There's a small parking lot so if the option is there, I would take public transportation.
OK Ryan, nestled in Flushing, is a great choice if you're craving homey and delicious Taiwanese food. Our group of five went family style, which is a must since the menu has so many tempting options. My two favorites of the meal were the fly's head (a simple yet effective mix of ground pork, black bean, budding chives, and chilies) and cabbage in XO sauce (can this be my side dish for every meal?). FYI, they're both listed as spicy but there's barely a kick. As comfort dishes go, the pork with bamboo shoot was top-notch. I also liked the beef with water spinach in BBQ sauce (love myself some sacha sauce), which was a bit wetter than I expected, but tasty nonetheless. For other classic options, you can't go wrong with the Taiwanese style stinky tofu (personally the pickled veggies have always been my favorite part), Taiwanese three cup chicken, and braised pork rice with egg (my favorite of this group). While I liked the flavors of the oyster omelette, it was a little too goopy for me and wayyy too goopy for my friends. There were barely any oysters, but that didn't surprise me. I also tried ba-wan for the first time, and it was glutinous with a tasty sauce, but I preferred the other dishes. The sesame oil pork kidney was also a little too soft for my taste, but take that with a grain of salt, as I'm usually not big on kidneys unless they're grilled and smoky. My kidney-loving friend really enjoyed it. I was also glad to snag the last grass jelly drink of the night. It was excellent and so refreshing! The wait staff was really friendly and helpful, and I really appreciated that. Flushing's always such a trek from Brooklyn, but I hope to return and try other dishes, especially from their breakfast menu.
Came here for breakfast when we were in NYC a few weeks ago - I haven't had Taiwanese breakfast since 2017, and I have missed it desperately. We ordered the 燒餅油條 (Clay Oven Roll with Twisted Cruller), 肉鬆蛋餅 (Egg Baked Cake w Dry Pork), 熊貓飯糰 (Panda's Rice Roll), and 蘿蔔糕 (Radish Cake). The servers were efficient, the food was served quickly, and it was casual and comfortable, which made it all the more heartwarming. The 燒餅油條 was unwieldy and not as aromatic as I hoped, but still tasty. The 肉鬆蛋餅 was a little heavy on the 肉鬆 and a bit salty, but the 蛋餅 itself was perfect. The 蘿蔔糕 (not pictured) was tender, albeit a bit bland. The best dish was the 熊貓飯糰 (not pictured) was simply delightful, full of stuff with a combo of purple and white rice for a fun look. All in all, a really lovely experience that reminded me of home. Wish I could've tried the whole menu!
Pretty solid Taiwanese staples. Liked the Lou rou fan the most! Portion was pretty decent so you can share things.

The smoked chicken is the best I've ever had! Extremely good values too. A box full of chicken for $15. The meat is so well smoked with strong woody smells and the taste lingers in your mouth for a long time. Other dishes are quite standard. read more

It was a really hot day and it was really stuffy inside the restaurant. The fan really didn't cut it. They need to turn on the air conditioner or open the door. I was dripping in sweat by the time I was done with my beef noodle soup. The beef noodle soup was pretty disappointing. The soup had no flavor but meat tasted pretty good, which is odd since the meat is cooked in the soup. The noodles were also well cooked but the addition of the pieces of carrots and cabbage were not necessary and weird. I asked for extra extra sour mustard and made the soup edible. The last resort would've been to add soy sauce. The others ordered vegetarian dishes, which I tasted and thought we're OK. The stinky tofu was definitely not stinky enough. However, the staff was extremely friendly, even though they were extremely busy with all the takeout orders. They even brought separate, dipping sauces, one vegetarian, the other not for the stinky tofu. The whole thing was weird, since this is a sister store to OK Canaan, when I had the beef noodle soup over there, the soup had great flavor, but the beef was crappy, and the noodles were overcooked. And the stinky tofu over there was pretty stinky. It's almost like everything is opposite. Would I go there again? Maybe. I brought my sister a pork chop over rice to go and she said it was delicious. So if I'm ever craving that, I might try it. However, I ordered a Kung pao chicken lunch for my husband, and the portion was so small and there were so much fillers such as red and green bell peppers and it wasn't spicy at all. read more
OK Ryan is a simple restaurant with no bells and whistles but the food is phenomenal. The three cup chicken hit the spot after so many months in quarantine. The beef noodle soup is super good as well, I would highly recommend. The stinky tofu is definitely stinky but one of my favorites at this place. When we arrived, it looked boarded up but they were actually open for indoor dining. I highly recommend the black sesame pancake and order in advance because they make it fresh so you may have to wait 15 minutes. (It's worth the wait) read more

Great food - lots of positive emotions! It was my first time trying Ok Ryan and the place definitely exceeded my expectations. Me and my friends ordered spicy beef, spicy pork belly with green peppers, double cooked pork and a few side dishes. First - double cooked pork is something that everyone must try! (The meet is so soft and flavorful!) beef and pork belly were labeled spicy but the spice is not overpowering and just complementing the natural taste of meat. I will totally one back later read more

Hidden gem; 10/10 would recommend! They close from 3:30-4:30 so everyone can get a lunch break so make sure you don't go then. Food is very flavorful and service is A1 Prices on menu are not updated so it is $1-$2 difference. Our friends highly recommended us to try their braised fried tofu so we decided to give them another chance. We made a dinner pick up on a Saturday at 5:30 pm and they had our order of total 5 dishes prepared on time. Their lunch & dinner menu was decent and much better than their breakfast. My favorite was one of their signature dishes, smoked duck. The meat was flavorful and tender with great portion. We felt really satisfied this time and might visit again. read more

This was my first time trying stinky tofu and an oyster omelette. I was told that the stinky tofu here is mild. It seemed stinky enough but not overpowering. I really liked the crunchy outer texture. The oyster omelette was challenging to cut but I enjoyed the mix of flavors and textures. I also got a coconut milk-based drink with tapioca, custard and bluish jelly. I don't normally drink sweet drinks but I really liked this a lot. It was basically a dessert. read more

Came by on a Saturday morning to get my Taiwanese breakfast fix! There's such a shortage of Taiwanese spots in NYC, and OK Ryan serves up some truly authentic, no frills, Taiwanese fare. Ordered the dan bing (egg crepe roll), black rice fan tuan (rice roll with fried dough stick, pickled vegetables, and pork floss), radish pastries, and hot soy milk. Everything was super fresh, and I especially liked the fan tuan-- served warm and the dough stick was still hot and crispy. The place is run by a Taiwanese bunch that remind me of my aunties and uncles in Taipei! Will definitely be making the "trek" from Manhattan more often. PS- they only serve breakfast on the weekends from 8-11am; run don't walk! read more

Authentic Taiwanese food. I ordered the Taiwanese stinky tofu, soy milk, the braised pork over rice and the pickled cabbage duck blood soup. My favorite was the braised pork over rice. It was super yummy and the tea egg is just how my mom makes it. The stinky tofu was stinky haha but it was really good with the sauce. The pickled cabbage soup was also pretty good but it wasn't my favorite. Probably because I don't particularly enjoy duck blood. Finally, of course the soy milk is solid. The price came out to be about $40 total. The soup portion was huge. It was probably meant to be shared between 3 people. The stinky tofu was also shareable but the pork over rice seemed like an individual dish. Service was pretty good, especially when people started pouring in around 6:30. Would come here again if I'm ever in the area read more

I have been going to Taiwan every year since I was 2 years old. Due to the current situation, I definitely won't be traveling anytime soon. Taiwanese breakfast culture is a big deal. They take breakfast seriously there. If you haven't had a Taiwanese breakfast experience, you are definitely missing out on some yummy goodness. Not sure why Taiwanese breakfast isn't a thing here in NY, but even finding a Taiwanese owned & operated restaurant is very rare these days. I definitely was having withdrawals on all foods Taiwanese so when I heard from a colleague that Ok Ryan served Taiwanese breakfast, I knew I had to make a trip out there. They only serve their breakfast menu on weekends, and from 9am - 11am. If you go any other day or time, you are outta luck! If I'm going on a food adventure I like to be prepared and do some research ahead of time. Lol b/c gas is expensive and I'm not driving somewhere only to be disappointed. I actually made my mother call the day before to 1) verify that the breakfast menu is available on Saturdays 2) see if they really are Taiwanese 3) if they could make modifications to the rice rolls/fan tuan (vegetarian friendly). It was "YES" all across the board. The woman (who was very warm and friendly) advised us to call in our order early, before 9am. She said we could pick it up anytime, even past 11am. She said they get swamped from 9am and on so they might not even be able to answer the phone to take orders. We asked about the parking situation (which is horrendous in Flushing) and was told they have 3 parking spaces out front, but if those are occupied, we can park on the side of the street and call them for curbside pickup. I went to pickup my order at around 11:30am on a Saturday, the parking spaces were all empty. They are located on College Point Blvd, close to Sky View, in a strip mall, next to Dunkin. The interior was definitely a no frills type of place. The staff was very polite and hospitable, they were definitely Taiwanese. I did make a mistake and not check my bag to make sure everything was inside tho. They forgot one of the things I was definitely craving for, shaobing you tiao/ flakey sesame bread with fried cruller sandwich. My order came out to a little over $60. I think if you want the ideal experience, definitely try to eat in the restaurant so it's fresh and hot. My favorite was definitely the rice rolls. I suggest getting the Panda Rice roll, it's pretty unique and aesthetic looking with 1/2 white and 1/2 purple rice. I never seen that in Taiwan be4. They typically come with pork floss but I opted for a vegetarian version. The dan bing with cheese / egg crepe with cheese was good too. The egg crepe with the fried cruller was soggy, def didn't travel well. I feel like the pricing was a bit high, I wasn't expecting Taiwan prices but $6.50 for a rice roll or $6.75 for 2 puff pastries is a bit expensive. In regards to the missing item, when we called, the woman who answered was very apologetic and asked if we would like to come back to pick it up. When we said we live out on Long Island, she said to keep our receipt and took down our name & phone number for a store credit. I was leaning towards 3 stars but due to how nice they were, I didn't have the heart LOL so make sure you check your order before you leave!!! I definitely would come again (not only to redeem my credit) and I do want to try their regular menu as well. read more

I have finally found my favorite TW place to eat in NY. I even would say it's as good as Irvine, CA places. We went for lunch and got a few items from their lunch menu which come with a soup and a bowl of rice and a few other dishes from their regular menu. Service was intermittently slow which was irritating only Bc we got some dishes but the woman promised she would bring the rice 2x and was just too busy (and I wanted / NEEDED to have my rice with my food). The soup was so good!! I would say everything was delicious and portions were proportional to the prices. The quality of the food was amazing and nothing was overly salted (they don't use MSG here thank god) and there was just the right amount of oil on EACH dish. I can't get over how legit each of these dishes tasted to TW food back in the motherland!! Their hot chili oil (is made in house) but you have to ask for it. I have been coming here regularly a few times a month for over a year and I am never disappointed. They also take credit cards which is a plus. There are 2 parking spots (4 & 5) which I think you need to get a card / paper to place on your windshield since I heard her asking every customer who came in. IMPORTANT: DO NOT park in the Home Depot parking lot and leave the premises to come here or anywhere. There are people who watch the lot like hawks and will tow you. We came back from a quick lunch and lost our whole afternoon waiting for the truck to come back to us ($125+tax and its cash only). Lots of other people also were towed lol so that made me feel better. Be careful and park on College Point instead. read more

I haven't had Taiwanese food in awhile. Definitely a treat, after a day at the US Open. Service was quick and the food was fantastic! The cabbage stew and Fly's Head were spot on. Definitely coming back. read more

I haven't tried their dinner food yet, but they serve Taiwanese breakfast, which is even better imo! The Taiwanese breakfast is only available Sat and Sun from 8am-11am. They support contactless payment and you just pick up from the door, since they barred the entrance into the restaurant.. My favorite things to get: * Pork floss dan bing (肉鬆蛋餅) - The dan bing part is thick, but still comforting and very filling. This is my go-to breakfast item to get here. They have other flavors like corn, ham + egg, cheese, and youtiao. If you get the corn one, they'll add extra egg in it to hold the corn. * Shao bing w/ ham and egg (燒餅夾火腿蛋) - This is so much better than a breakfast sandwich. The shaobing is really crispy. * Shao bing w/ youtiao (燒餅夾油條) - For the carb on carb lovers. * Purple rice fan tuan (紫米飯糰) * Black same layer bread (芝麻千層餅) - This was flaky outside, QQ on the inside, and not too sweet. Surprisingly good. Breakfast isn't complete without soy milk! I usually get the hot soy milk with no sugar, which comes in a soup container. If you get the iced one, it'll come up in a cup with a straw. They also recently started making homemade mochi! The black sesame filling for the mochi isn't too sweet and the mochi itself is very soft and QQ. read more

The food here are AMAZING. It's soo authentic Taiwanese food. I love the chicken leg and rice it was so good. The service here are also excellent. The lady are super nice and recommend the best dish and speaks so soft. The atmosphere here is a small family restaurant it so cozy. Highly recommended read more
Should I? Dare I say it? Oh man...Fine I'll give it a go. Ok Ryan is the best Taiwanese joint in the NY area. Ok whew, I did it. lol. All kidding aside, OK Ryan's dishes and flavors are as good as any Taiwanese place out there if not better. There are deep rich flavors and a nolstagic Taiwanese cooking sense here not present at all others. Why I haven't written a review on one of my favorite places, I don't know. Maybe I just wanted to keep the secret to myself. #greedy lol. but I've had OK Ryan too many times to count. They have so many amazing dishes it's really what you're in the mood for and what you prefer. Some of the ones that stand out that I love include stinky tofu, green onion pancake, oyster omelette, tofu and seafood clay casserole, 3Cup chicken, Sauteed string bean with dry tofu, pig intestine vermicelli soup and my personal favorite the house special pork chop. It's sticky, sweet and savory and the taste has this rich molasses goodness I love! If you are in the mood for Taiwanese food, look no further. I dont think you'll be disappointed. Currently they are only doing delivery or pickup during the pandemic times. read more
Step over mama lee. I'm kind of tired of you opening when you want and raising prices to absurd levels. Enter Ok Ryan. Basically the same Taiwanese concept. I got the three cup chicken, the house special spare ribs and the fish filet with mixed vegetables. Also three were awesome and i'd reorder in a heartbeat. They have a family special which comes out to like 33 dollars but it's so worth it. They're not too far into flushing where it's crazy either so I'm definitely going to be a repeat customer here. read more

We ordered 5 dishes off of their Chinese New Year menu and 4 out of the 5 dishes failed miserably in both taste and portion given the exorbitant pricing (approx $240, Inc tax and tip for delivery). Also, all dishes arrived cold. The lobster fried noodle was $72 (before tax and tip) and had only one lobster and the noodles were bland. Each guest was left very disappointed. Given that the turnip cake with XO sauce was roughly $30, we expected a much larger portion, the taste was decent. read more

We randomly found this place on a weekend. It's owned by Taiwanese. The food was quite good: Pork chop noodle: they placed too many random vegetables in the noodle. They had everything from carrot, to white mushroom. I would have just prefer it to come with chinese green vegetables. They did a good job on the pork chop. Braised pork rice: very good. It's pretty close to the ones in Taiwan. read more

They offered daily special which they usually display four to five veg or meats in chafing dishes. I picked four items for my bento box today. I picked spicy chicken, fried fish, beans sprouts and double cooked pork belly. Nice flavor overall, but I did get real thirsty after the meal. I ate in the restaurant once, however the quantity was a bit small and pricey compared to restaurants in the area. I'd preferred take-out instead. A quick lunch spot /take-out for you to enjoy Taiwanese style cooking. read more

You wouldn't have notice this restaurant because it's not located on the busy streets of Main Street flushing. My mum recommended this place as she's been to the other branch (different name same owner) and we are near the mall. The interior is clean and comfortable and brings you OG authentic Taiwanese food! We ordered a couple of dishes and oh wowwwwww- it's amazing! We got the three cup chicken, fly's head (Chinese chives with pork), and steam fish filet with tofu dish. They even have house made plum drink that is so made fresh daily and so delicious to go with food! The price is also very decent and I will highly recommend this place. You can also choose to pick up (we notice many people did). The service is nice and friendly. With the current situation, Just want to ask folks to be considerate to the staff! Although they look empty, but they are busy with phone orders and such so the kitchen is busy even if the place doesn't look busy! We still got our food relatively fast ! read more
Great Taiwanese restaurant off the beaten path in Flushing, near the Skyview center. Delicious food and a cozy atmosphere. Good for family style meals as well. We really enjoyed the beef noodle soup and the salt and pepper pork chop. The meat was so tender! The staff were also really nice. We'll definitely come back to try more of their dishes. read more
I've had this place bookmarked for quite some time. We ended up selecting this place by chance, while looking for places to eat. I shared the salt and pepper chicken and ordered a white rice. At first I was worried that this would be like popcorn chicken and that it would be too dry to eat on its own with just white rice. Surprisingly any additional sauce wasn't necessary. It was pretty good just on its own. Full disclosure - We asked the waiter if the dish was supposed to come with sauce and was told that people normally eat it without sauce in Taiwan. The chicken was juicy and flavorful and spiced nicely. One dish is definitely enough for two people to share. The texture is different. Its not like fried chicken or popcorn chicken, it was more like battered chicken with salt and pepper spices. read more
