I hadn't been to this place in about a year and a half. But my lady and I went there before going to a play at the Long Beach playhouse. We figured we had an hour to eat and should work out perfectly. The service was fantastic. We let our server know that we are going to a play and he accommodated our order in a timely manner. We ordered a six-piece sushi roll with salmon. She had a teriyaki salmon bowl and I had chicken teriyaki. The bowls were good and tasty, however, the sushi was very disappointing. My Family and I wanted Sushi. East coast family is visiting, so we wanted to treat their taste for sushi with some good sushi, or what we thought would be good. We arrived shortly after Happy hour, so it was still sort of crowded. The waitress informed us it would be about 10-15 minutes for a table for 3. If you are familiar with this place, there are no seats for the waiting and very, limited standing room. Did I mentioned I walk (a little unstable at times) with a cane? I left my walker in the car because we were able to park in front on the entrance. My family placed her name on the list and I looked the waitress/hostess in the eye and said we will be at the car. As we exited, another group of 3 walked in and stood at the check in desk. About 8-10 minutes later, that group was seated. When we observed the group that entered after us seated, we went in to check the wait list. The name entered AFTER ours was crossed out. No other names were on list. All the names prior to ours were crossed out. When we asked what happened we were given an "I don't know. We could seat you at the bar?" I shook my head because they offered the bar when we first came in and we requested a table. All we were told was They did not know. No apologies, no nothing. UUUGGHHHH! I really wonder why there are no waiting chairs/seats or why we were not even offered one. Any observant person could see my white beard as I hobbled through the door I remembered eating some of the city's best sushi and sashimi in the past. I don't remember the service being that bad. A friend of mine recommended this place so we all went one night. This is a mixed review of both ups and downs. I suppose I'm also a little bias in this situation because I work at a sushi restaurant. I'll start with the ups: Cute little place with lots of parking because it's next to a motel. The salmon and tuna sushi was absolutely amazing. The texture and taste was perfect. The service was also great, very sweet and energetic energy from the chefs and the servers. Their happy hour prices are a steal, from $10.50 for specialty rolls to $3.95 for a beer. Budget friendly causal place overall. For the downs it was only the quality of the sauces and the menu descriptions: On the menu, none of the rolls state they have any sauces on them and when the rolls we ordered came out covered in sauce, I'm guessing eel and spicy mayo, I was disappointed. Personally I despise eel sauce, too sweet for me, and this eel sauce tasted like syrup. I thought I was being over dramatic, but even my friends thought it tasted like straight sugar. The spicy mayo was also sweet which didn't seem right. The crispy rice was soaked in eel sauce and I just couldn't eat it. Overall not a bad place, but if you don't like sauces be careful. We went for happy hour and got four good size rolls and a calamari salad for only $44! We got the 911, the Atlantic, the shrimp tempura cut roll and salmon avocado cut roll! My friend is a loyal customer and goes every year for her birthday so very glad she put me on to this place. Let me get to the point, the rolls were old. They looked old, tasted old and behaved old. Let's start with the looks- everything had a brown hue to it- like when you leave it in the fridge for a day or two. The fish it self did not look fresh- the taste 100% tasted like refrigerator. The rolls were sticking to the plate- not even the rice was fresh. Lastly- service took 30 minutes after we finished to get us checked out. This is truly a gem that proves that Yelpers should be adventurous and overcome fears that can make a place appear out of place on the outside. I did need a little Yelpy bump from others to see through that and I am glad to have made the stop, and even returned on another visit. On to the food, the Yellowtail appetizer with garlic and Jalapeño is truly the best yellowtail I've ever tried! It's gentle, fatty, bursting with flavor and simply unbelievable. I think that dish alone is worth coming here for. Other Sashimi like salmon and tuna was excellent too, served in a very generous portion. Sushi rolls are American style and are delicious. And pitchers of Sapporo are a true steal, especially for Cali prices! It's easy to tell that folks here put their hearts into the food, and dishes are simple, yet delicious. If it's group seating there's probably room for about 10 groups, total it can probably house 75-100 people. Feels | It's in a pretty busy street of PCH but as for the plaza itself, it's pretty lowkey. The restaurant is pretty simple with the focus more on the food than aesthetics. It's got it's simple cultural decor with some good pop music and a few tvs to keep you entertained. Seems like a favorite spot for locals and a pretty simple hangout spot. FOOD: Oho Special (Recommend) Beautiful presentation and wealthy portion. I enjoyed the mix of flavors and the umami taste it has to it. Salmon Belly Sashimi (Recommend) This usually defines my sushi spot for me aaaand it passes. A reasonable amount of slices that were pretty cold, fresh, and flavorful. ALSO they actually had it. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! Orders came quick and the chefs were friendly. TL;DR OVERALL 4.5 Stars. Good food, reasonable price, and excellent selections. It was around 2pm and we were given a happy hour menu along with the regular menu. We ordered the LB roll and Soft Shell Crab roll both on the happy hour menu for $10 each. From the regular menu, we ordered the Lobster Bake roll and the Dynamite Bake. All flavorful and fresh. Little bummed that some of the rolls fell apart as soon as you picked them up.
