I've been coming here for 15 years... the sunrise on second roll changed the world for me. It was the catalyst that got me into sushi, which then got me into raw fish! It's always been insanely good and very consistent over a very long time... it's a guilty pleasure. So good. However, we've always tried to find a second roll that we loved on their menu and honestly haven't been too successful. Everything was always fresh and yummy, but nothing spectacular like the sunrise roll. That was until they debuted the TANGERINE ROLL. If you like the refreshing roll from sushi on fire on second street, then you'll LOVE this roll. It's actually better than the refreshing roll. It's another 10/10. Then the last time we were there, we decided to try one of their new specials. The halibut yuzu sashimi... this is a seriously classy and elegant dish that reminded me of the kinds of dishes we'd get at the best sushi / Japanese restaurants anywhere. You don't get a lot of halibut (6 small pieces)... It's more of a small appetizer if anything... but wow, it's insanely good. Flavor bomb. Beautifully plated. Great quality sushi at great prices. Don't be fooled by the fact that it shares a parking lot with a Motel, the sushi here is really tasty. They have happy hour everyday from 3pm until closing and their menu includes some appetizers at $3.99 and selected rolls at $8.99 along with some discounted beer and wine. The menu description of the rolls don't reflect accurately on what actually comes out. So I recommend just picking something with the types of fillings/toppings you'd like and you'll definitely get something worthwhile. Boyfriend and I tried 4 rolls, all of them were so good that we inhaled our food. +Wolverine roll (5/5): This was personally my favorite roll out of the bunch. It was not on the HH menu but it was, I believe, one of the only rolls with raw salmon on top so I ordered it for that reason (I love salmon). The salmon was fresh and the glaze on top was some sort of spicy, sweet, and sour flavor, bomb.com! +Extreme crunchy roll (3/5): Boyfriend and my least favorite roll and it was off the HH menu. The crunchyness was very extreme so you'd get what you're asking for but the spicy tuna on the inside somehow tasted kind of mushy and flavorless. They had a tasty eel sauce coating that enhances the flavor so it wasn't that bad. +Sunrise on 2nd street roll (4/5): This was on the HH menu and it has raw tuna on top. Very yummy! It has a similar glaze to the wolverine but it just doesn't have the spicyness. The flavor is kind of sweet with a slight tang in the sauce. Loved it. +Sexy girl roll (4/5): Boyfriend's favorite roll out of the bunch (he would've given it a 5/5 but this is my review not his lol) and its on the HH menu. It's a combination of sweet, spicy, and crunchy; the jalapenos weren't too hot and were just enough to give a good kick. We came at 8:30pm on a Saturday and there was only one other customer in the entire restaurant. That made me sort of skeptical to try the place I'm so glad we did. The service was great and attentive and the sushi chef also asked us what we thought of the rolls during our meal. We loved everything because each roll had a different and unique flavor but they all ended up being really good. I will definitely come back! read more

They might want to consider welcoming or in some way acknowledging the several patrons who have been standing in the doorway for several minutes before walking out instead of continuing to ignore us without saying a word. They could at least say something like, "we'll be right with you" or anything to at least acknowledge us. We love OHO Sushi Studio- we've been coming here for 20 years. It's changed hands a couple times but it's always great quality and great service! The sushi chefs and servers are amazing and the food is delicious EVERY TIME! Now, we're a family of three large men who eat a LOT and me, the "regular eater" mom and the only bummer is when we arrive and we're all starving, we fill out the paper menu and have tons of orders. Then they bring it alllll to you! That is great because we're so hungry but our table is loaded! Next time, we will put in a few items, eat them, then add more. That's seriously "first world problems" but it might be something to consider if you have a hungry family or large group. You will LOVE your experience! Birthdays are awesome! read more

This is probably the best hole in the wall sushi place in Long Beach! The food is very good and fresh, which makes sense with the restaurant being so close to the water. We have been to this sushi restaurant twice and both times it has been great. I agree with other yelpers about this place being tricky to find. It shares a parking lot with Don's Motel. (rather, Don's otel....the M in MOTEL hasn't worked for a while.) If you can find, OHO Sushi Studio it is well worth a try. Both times we have been able to be seated right away. The employees are welcoming and attentive. The selection of rolls is impressive. It's clear the chef's have fun creating new rolls. My favorite thing about this place is that it has Escolar. The Japanese name is Aburasokomutsu. You will find it in their Nigiri or Sashimi sections of the menu. It is a white fish with a silky texture and buttery flavor. I love it and have trouble finding it elsewhere. If you haven't tried it, I would recommend trying it here. You can't go wrong. Kanpai! read more

Parking is pretty limited but we always park on the street so we dont ever have an issue finding parking on the inside. Resturant is nice and clean we usually sit at the sushi bar area. They habe my boyfriends favriote beer there which is an amber ale so he loves it even more. I usually order a glass of wine and hot sake. There sushi is fresh and made right there and there. Oho located along PCH has a shared parking lot of a Motel. Don't be fooled by the quirkiness of having to park next to the Motel lot (yea we thought it odd too). My sister, kids and I were famished and parched, and ready to dive in some good sushi. Long Beach has quite a bit of competition when it comes to sushi joints, so being that this was their first time, and my second time here when it was called Sushi Studio, they were a bit skeptical since we were all sushi connoisseur with different sets of palates. Needless to say, we enjoyed every dish we ordered. Our favorite was the 911 roll, the sexy lady roll (mango slice topping), shrimp tempura roll and .. actually come to think of it, we ate just about every bit of everything so, I must say, we had zero complaints. They served the most freshest ginger we've all ever had from any sushi restaurant we've been to. Overall, I'd give the food and service 4.5/5 stars. Service slightly slow considering there wasn't much of a crowd, but we'd definitely come back. read more

Sashimi was marginal at best. Ordered the Sashimi deluxe platter, tangerine roll, lobster roll, volcano roll, and teriyaki steak bento box. Uni tasted old; toro was bleh; no fresh wasabi (especially for a Chefs deluxe) so ordered a side of it for $2.50. Got a bowl of over salted scallions with hardly any wasabi, instead. Tasted more like...you know when were a kid and you're crying, and your salty tears mixes in with your runny nose, and you lick your upper lip because you're not wearing a long sleeve to wipe it away. That's about the best I could describe it. Even still, I had to request the green paste wasabi from the servers. I thought it was the norm to have ginger/wasabi served without having to ask, or maybe I'm just spoiled. All the rave about this place having the freshest fish, I felt very underwhelmed and left the place knowing that I'll probably never return, especially with all the other Thai, Korean, and even Japanese owned sushi joints in Long Beach, that serve fresh fish no matter what day of the week. The tangerine roll was O.K. (suggested by our server, Colin) so "Thanks" for that. My lady isn't much into fish, hence the teriyaki steak bento. But even the steak was tough and chewy. Again not looking for perfection but still not something to rave about. If you're looking for sushi, I suppose this place is for you. It's not too hard to convince you that fish is fresh especially when mixed in with rice, seaweed, sriracha mayo, lemon juice, and what else makes sushi, sushi. Parking is shared w a motel. came for and early dinner so parking wasn't an issue. Not sure if it gets crowded during peak hours. Came here for happy hour (3-7pm). For the quality/quantity of the sushi, I wouldn't want to pay non-happy hour prices for them as the happy hour prices seem to be what I would pay elsewhere for something similar. The fish on the HH rolls seem to be smaller in quantity. This place is located on the same lot as the Motel. First time here and let me say not my last! We came in on a Friday night and it was crowded but still enjoyable. The sushi rolls were amazingly delicious. We tried tangerine, spicy girl and I believe it was called tropical. My favorite was Tangerine! Delicious and all the ingredients were fresh. The sushi was very tasty and they offer fresh wasabi which most sushi spots don't carry, if you've never had it, order it - it's worth it...trust me. We came here for dinner on a Thursday evening while driving around and figuring our what to have for dinner. We decided to stop into Oho Sushi Studio because we drove past it and remembered having a nice dinner years ago. The food was delicious but I am giving it a lower rating because of the service. I understand outdoor seating is the only way to go right now, but why were there no heaters to keep the customers warm? When we asked for a heater, we were told that they had "ran out of fuel." It was 6:30pm and dinner was just getting started. How do you not have any heaters? We were so cold that it made it difficult to enjoy our food when we were shaking and trying to keep warm. A restaurant does not have an excuse to not have heaters. If you run out, then you go and purchase more fuel. After a year of the pandemic, I would assume restaurants is prepared with heaters and enough back-up fuel to keep the customers warm. It was difficult to truly enjoy our meals when we just wanted to eat as fast as possible and get to the car. I am extremely disappointed by the lack of preparedness by Sushi Studio. I would think twice about dining here when other sushi restaurants provide outdoor seating, with proper heating. The sushi was delicious and pretty, but it was hard to enjoy with the frosty winds and low temperature. This was truly one of those moments when it hurt to pay the $85 for a dinner we were unable to enjoy. I would definitely think twice and do some extra research. read more

You guys killed every sushi restaurant for my husband I! We love OHO so much we come in at least once a week. Awesome prices, amazing food, awesome people. We love and hate that our new house is so close to the restaurant. We have made OHO a tradition that before we go to Disneyland, we always come in and fill up. If your looking for the best happy hour, look no further. The pitchers are cheap and so is the sake (i always get both) But the sushi on the happy hour menu is great. The Lynn roll, Sexy girl, and Lobster roll (not on happy hour) are my main go too and the magic mushrooms are killer. But the best roll of them all is this octopus roll. I'm addicted to octopus, so when we first tried this place when we bought out house in Feb, i was hooked. Definitely a hidden gem of Long Beach. 10/10 would recommend! read more

OHO Sushi never disappoints. The happy hour is so well worth it between the hours of 3-6 pm. The sushi here is so fresh and the flavors just pop. A must have: sashimi jalapeño yellowtail (not spicy at all but gives it a good flavor) , sashimi mango yellowtail ( a little sweet due to the mango but great pairing with the yellowtail), if you liked baked rolls try the volcano ( cooked just right salmon with sauce, so good) and my favorite sake which I can't find anywhere Midori pineapple sake. read more

I spent two years eating mediocre sushi and one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Long Beach went downhill to point of no return. Today Oho Sushi Studio really brought back memories of good times, pre-pandemic. FRESH tasting fish and excellent customer service. Two qualities that have been hard to find these days. The toro and yellow tail sashimi were the best. Absolutely and entirely fresh. Great quality fish. The tempura veggies were also a favorite. The menu had so many options in different categories.
