It's a bit far from traditional Japanese with really creative rolls and non-Japanese sushi chefs but that doesn't get in the way of a good meal. Thai owned sushi restaurant located in what was once a diner. Attached to an old motel, the interior is clean but rough around the edges. The comic book illustrated menu is comically lengthy, with Americanized specialty rolls galore. I came here with my boyfriend and 4 friends, all of whom ate enormous amounts of sushi and several pitchers of draft beer for under $50 per person. Service was enthusiastic and rapid fire. I was the lone vegetarian in the group. I got the "Crunchy Veggie" roll, which is the only vegetarian option on the menu. The roll contained only soggy, oily sweet potato tempura, coated in panko and drizzled with candy-sweet teriyaki sauce. The only enjoyable aspect was the sweet potato itself, which was Japanese purple potato (my favorite). I also got the spicy seaweed salad, which was inedible. The wakame was slimy and tasted off, and was flavored with overwhelmingly spicy chili oil. I give three stars because my boyfriend and friends all felt the fish was the highest quality they have eaten at a sushi restaurant in Long Beach. I hope OHO considers adding a few more decent vegetarian options to their menu, because then we would surely become regulars. read more

I was not a sushi person until this place! It blows every other sushi place out of the water. The yellow submarine roll and the Monkey roll made me a believer! I took 2 other people on two separate occasions to this place knowing they hated sushi and changed their minds about it. This place has every type of sushi for every type of person. It's amazing. Don't be put-off (or like me, scared!) that their sign sits adjacent to a motel's on PCH. OHO Sushi is awesome. My two nephews, sister and I stopped off at OHO late Saturday-afternoon. We were starving, as we had spent all morning and most of the afternoon at a used car lot buying a car for one of the nephews; by the time we arrived at OHO, we were all at varying degrees of "hangry." Once we sat down at OHO, we were greeted by a friendly host who supplied the table with plenty of pickled ginger and fresh wasabi. We didn't realize it, but we got there at their Happy Hour (HH) so we lucked out even more. I cannot remember exactly how many rolls we ordered - along with some Udon noodles and seaweed salad - but we ordered at least 3-rolls per person because we went a bit overboard checking off items on their HH menu. At any given time during the meal, we had about 6-7 rolls on the table and more kept coming out. Suffice to say, we ate very well. Everything was fresh and delicious. I ordered a beer, which was nice and cold when it arrived at the table. The food was excellent, but the service at OHO also stood out. The people there are friendly but chill at the same time. The atmosphere is kitschy-zen-hispter-divey that is reminiscent of Venice (Beach, not Italy) that I happen to like. I went here to get some sushi and one of my favorite hand rolls. I got the aforementioned hand roll, escolar nigiri, scallop nigiri, albacore nigiri, Sunrise on Second sushi roll, and double tuna sushi roll. Sushi Studio is a casual sushi joint in a fishy motel parking lot (sorry), despite that, the sushi here is really fresh. Firstly, is the hand roll which is a custom one. It's soy paper with spicy salmon, jalapeño, and fresh real wasabi. It's a flavor bomb that allows the natural sweetness of the salmon to shine through with a bright pop from the real wasabi and slight heat from the jalapeño. It's very good. Next are the nigiri, which were all fresh and delicate and went well with soy and wasabi paste. Lastly, were the rolls of which the Sunrise on Second is my favorite. It has spicy crab salad and avocado in the center, and topped with tuna, masago, and green onion with a side of sweet soy glaze and chili oil. The chili oil really levels up this roll adding a spicy depth to an already flavorful roll. read more

I've been here a few times, actually, but this recent visit finalized my thought about this LB restaurant. Straight-up, I miss going to its neater, sister joint, I Luv Sushi, & my last time going there was early '09 before I was coerced to move out of my Lakewood apartment (ex-roomie moved out for family concerns & I couldn't find a new one in time)... Idk how I Luv Sushi is currently, but in Sushi Studio's situation, the food quality wasn't overall as great as the former, which actually offered the exact same menu items, including Happy Hour $6 Special Roll specials. Moreover, I've had much more professional & friendlier service at the former. This less than mediocre service at SS--such as one of the waitresses who, based on body language, thought I was a hassle b/c I additionally requested more dessert spoons for my friends to share my brain-looking Tempura Green Tea Ice Cream--made me lose a bit of tolerance w/ the staff. Now here are my food opinions. I'll admit, some of the items are very tasty, but like I said, the overall quality is ok. Specifically, I savored every second of my wholesome, crisp $4 Seaweed Salad on my most recent time, as well as the luscious $5 Magic Mushrooms. On the other hand, I disliked how the tempura was pretty stale, both in the $5 Tempura Green Tea Ice Cream, my Las Vegas Roll ($6 on Friday's HH), & my friend's Ninja Set as a Lunch Special. As a result, from all this stated above, & based on many sushi visits, SS gets 3 out of 5. I came here with my family of 3 on Valentine's Day around 6:30 PM. We were directed to a table immediately upon arrival and quickly noticed they were understaffed. Waiters walked by us for about 10-15 minutes before we were offered menus and had our waters ordered. After we ordered our food, all the dishes came to the table very quickly. The wait staff seemed frazzled the whole time and were constantly checking to see if items on our receipt had been delivered. Aside from being given our food, no one had checked on our table and it took the whole meal to flag someone down to let them know that one of our dishes was missing. The hostess/waitress was very apologetic and removed it from our meal. Food was decent but nothing too special. The Extreme Crunchy Roll was spicy crunchy and creamy just delicious the sweet sauce and soy sauce made a perfect salty sweet balance that was truly incredible. The California Roll was standard but very creamy and so good the wasabi kicked it up a notch... The Salmon Sashimi was fresh and had a nice buttery clean texture it didn't need any sauce it was perfect and very light. BTW The food is 50%off from 5-7 for specialty Sushi If you want a light meal something that won't leave you feeling too full and regretful this is the place for you the food choices are endless almost overwhelming so many of the hand rolls are pretty very uniquely rolled and cut. After enjoying my meal I was very content with a few leftover I could have enjoyed dessert but I'll save that for my next visit.. A bit hard to locate as it seems to share the lot with a hotel. When first entering the place, the smell is not very pleasing. I had a phone order, so no change of mind at this point; otherwise I would have gladly walked away. The green mussels are okay, spicy shrimp gyoza is drenched in some sort of soy sauce and not spicy at all. The sushi filling for the shrimp tempura is so small, almost like they were prepping the smallest roll. Presentation is cute, but don't judge a book by its cover.
