One of my friends is devoted to this sushi joint and rates it her #1 favorite. It's a solid 4 stars in my book but ONE of the rolls is beyond me--it's SO delicious. One of my favorite rolls of all time and it's such a unique flavor. It's kind of like you hang out in the middle of no where and then you see it...a flippin shooting star. It's that good. Food: - Sunrise on Second Street Roll ($9.35 Happy Hour): AHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhh this is the best roll. I cant believe it. It has Spicy krab salad and avocado which is kind of like a California roll, but the topped tuna, masago, and green onions are what make it so delicious. But the hidden flavors are found in the sauce which reminds me of sesame oil which totally fits perfectly with the roll. This is my shooting star. I will get this roll over and over again! - Double Tuna ($9.35 Happy Hour): I love how much tuna comes in this rolls. Inside is spicy tuna and cucumber which is nice and delectable. It's then topped with tuna, avocado, and chilis which really bring it home. A great choice for tuna lovers! - Rainbow Roll ($9.35 Happy Hour): Colors are majestic but the fish portion isn't as strong with the rainbow. Inside is classic krab salad and cucumber, and the outside has an array of salmon, tuna, shrimp, and avocado. I've had stronger versions of this but it was still fresh and enjoyable. - Crunchy Roll ($9.35 Happy Hour): Krab salad, shrimp tempura, asparagus in the inner is like your standard crunchy roll and the outer has a nice layer of fried crunch. If you're not a fan of anything raw, this is a safe go-to! Pros: - Sunrise roll is so delicious. Get it especially during happy hour! - This place doesn't look like your typical sushi joint. It's like of like a diner-feel...which is quite funny if you think about it. - Prices during Happy Hour are great. - Located in the same lot that shares with a motel. We were all joking it kind of looks shady like one of those pay-by-the-hour ones. Hah, you'll get a good laugh. Who would have thought a sushi joint is stuck with it?! Cons: - Location can be a little funky at night. I loveeeeee me some sushi, and I cant stop thinking about the Sunrise roll. I will need to come back for another round! I love this place! The menu caught me off gaurd with the full blown comic book hidden it its pages, but I found it cute and enjoyable. The food is delicious and very satisfying, if you're in the mood for Japanese cuisine this place will definitely hit the spot and then some!. My boyfriend and I came here during happy hour for a late lunch. Lucky when we got here it wasn't busy. I know this place can get packed. Anyways, we ordered a bunch of food off the happy hour menu and also beer. I liked their special mushroom appetizer that they have. Its was delicious and I like the flavors. Even my boyfriend who doesn't really like mushrooms said that the mushrooms were super good. The baked mussels were also good and I like how the cheese was melted. Thai owned sushi restaurant located in what was once a diner. Attached to an old motel, the interior is clean but rough around the edges. The comic book illustrated menu is comically lengthy, with Americanized specialty rolls galore. I came here with my boyfriend and 4 friends, all of whom ate enormous amounts of sushi and several pitchers of draft beer for under $50 per person. Service was enthusiastic and rapid fire. I was the lone vegetarian in the group. I got the "Crunchy Veggie" roll, which is the only vegetarian option on the menu. The roll contained only soggy, oily sweet potato tempura, coated in panko and drizzled with candy-sweet teriyaki sauce. The only enjoyable aspect was the sweet potato itself, which was Japanese purple potato (my favorite). I also got the spicy seaweed salad, which was inedible. The wakame was slimy and tasted off, and was flavored with overwhelmingly spicy chili oil. I give three stars because my boyfriend and friends all felt the fish was the highest quality they have eaten at a sushi restaurant in Long Beach. I hope OHO considers adding a few more decent vegetarian options to their menu, because then we would surely become regulars. read more

It's a bit far from traditional Japanese with really creative rolls and non-Japanese sushi chefs but that doesn't get in the way of a good meal. I was not a sushi person until this place! It blows every other sushi place out of the water. The yellow submarine roll and the Monkey roll made me a believer! I took 2 other people on two separate occasions to this place knowing they hated sushi and changed their minds about it. This place has every type of sushi for every type of person. It's amazing. Furthermore, they're the only sushi place that has the sake brand and flavor I like (lychee). Don't be put-off (or like me, scared!) that their sign sits adjacent to a motel's on PCH. OHO Sushi is awesome. My two nephews, sister and I stopped off at OHO late Saturday-afternoon. We were starving, as we had spent all morning and most of the afternoon at a used car lot buying a car for one of the nephews; by the time we arrived at OHO, we were all at varying degrees of "hangry." Once we sat down at OHO, we were greeted by a friendly host who supplied the table with plenty of pickled ginger and fresh wasabi. We didn't realize it, but we got there at their Happy Hour (HH) so we lucked out even more. I cannot remember exactly how many rolls we ordered - along with some Udon noodles and seaweed salad - but we ordered at least 3-rolls per person because we went a bit overboard checking off items on their HH menu. At any given time during the meal, we had about 6-7 rolls on the table and more kept coming out. Suffice to say, we ate very well. Everything was fresh and delicious. I ordered a beer, which was nice and cold when it arrived at the table. The food was excellent, but the service at OHO also stood out. The people there are friendly but chill at the same time. The atmosphere is kitschy-zen-hispter-divey that is reminiscent of Venice (Beach, not Italy) that I happen to like. I luv their lunch specials! You get a few options to choose from. Choice of 2 rolls or 3 hand rolls and all lunch specials come with house salad and miso soup for $9.95! They have a ton of sushi roll options, sashimi, teriyaki dishes. They even serve ramen now! Which I haven't tried yet, but will! They have specials throughout the day. Lunch specials are from open to 3pm. Happy hour from 3pm to 7pm. Then late night happy hour from 7pm to close. You'll never miss out regardless of what time it is. read more

Straight-up, I miss going to its neater, sister joint, I Luv Sushi, & my last time going there was early '09 before I was coerced to move out of my Lakewood apartment (ex-roomie moved out for family concerns & I couldn't find a new one in time)... Idk how I Luv Sushi is currently, but in Sushi Studio's situation, the food quality wasn't overall as great as the former, which actually offered the exact same menu items, including Happy Hour $6 Special Roll specials. Moreover, I've had much more professional & friendlier service at the former. This less than mediocre service at SS--such as one of the waitresses who, based on body language, thought I was a hassle b/c I additionally requested more dessert spoons for my friends to share my brain-looking Tempura Green Tea Ice Cream--made me lose a bit of tolerance w/ the staff. Now here are my food opinions. I'll admit, some of the items are very tasty, but like I said, the overall quality is ok. Specifically, I savored every second of my wholesome, crisp $4 Seaweed Salad on my most recent time, as well as the luscious $5 Magic Mushrooms. On the other hand, I disliked how the tempura was pretty stale, both in the $5 Tempura Green Tea Ice Cream, my Las Vegas Roll ($6 on Friday's HH), & my friend's Ninja Set as a Lunch Special. As a result, from all this stated above, & based on many sushi visits, SS gets 3 out of 5. I'll only return for a friend's unyielding choice, say, for a b-day celebration; the Lunch Specials & Happy Hours are wonderful, indeed =). The server recommended a few things but I asked about the most popular item on the menu Extreme Crunchy Roll was a top seller. I ordered the Extreme Crunchy Roll a California roll and Salmon Sashimi with a glass of ice water. The Extreme Crunchy Roll was spicy crunchy and creamy just delicious the sweet sauce and soy sauce made a perfect salty sweet balance that was truly incredible. The California Roll was standard but very creamy and so good the wasabi kicked it up a notch... The Salmon Sashimi was fresh and had a nice buttery clean texture it didn't need any sauce it was perfect and very light. BTW The food is 50%off from 5-7 for specialty Sushi If you want a light meal something that won't leave you feeling too full and regretful this is the place for you the food choices are endless almost overwhelming so many of the hand rolls are pretty very uniquely rolled and cut. After enjoying my meal I was very content with a few leftover I could have enjoyed dessert but I'll save that for my next visit.. With the exception of their crazy parking...I mean, really!! We who have been there know WHY their parking is crazy and hard to beat!! The sushi is awesome and their Happy Hour Menu is entirely 50% off! Who would be crazy to pass up great sushi for half the price?! Hung out with Sean and Buck learning/teaching some Japanese and mingling with the staff was fun! It was crazy-busy in this place but the entire staff was friendly, witty, and made our visit an awesome one! I took the pleasure and indulged in their Veggie and Caribbean Rolls, tasted their Volcano and Sexie Girl Rolls and enjoyed their Green Tea and Sake while learning a few basic Japanese slang words! If you can get there in time for the lunch special which ends at 3pm you can get three hand rolls, salad and miso soup for under $10! I've tried a few different rolls like the spicy tuna, spicy albacore, spicy yellowtail, three amigos and the spicy shrimp and crab. I usually order my hand rolls without rice and on soy paper which costs more, but I still never pay more than $10! It's a great deal, tastes great and the fish is fresh! The menu is comic book themed. Very cool! Check your local mailer for coupons! Check the yelp photos section because they also have daily happy hour specials.
