Cannot recommend this place enough. They are so incredibly accommodating and friendly. Having celiac disease, it is hard at times to find restaurants that are willing to make substitutions but Ocotillo went above and beyond to do so. Including cleaning the grill to avoid cross contamination as well as giving us a safe substitution of chips for our appetizers. The food itself was incredibly flavorful and authentic. Carne asada was so tender and juicy and the ceviche was surprisingly tasty. The restaurant itself was well decorated and an open kitchen concept as well which is so fun. Quiet enough for an intimate setting but casual enough for a birthday dinner. Highly recommend and will be back asap read more

The service was stellar and the food was delicious. We all enjoyed the tortilla chips with the creamy bean dip, and my husband declared the guacamole was "the best." Our oldest grandson said the carnitas tacos were too good--he ate six of them. My arrachera steak had a great flavor, and the side of onions and portobella mushrooms was generous and perfectly cooked. I also enjoyed the tasty glazed carrots. My husband's bone-in short rib birria was melt-in-your-mouth tender and enough to feed two people. Unfortunately, I had to deduct a star because of a safety issue. The arrachera was served on a hot stone placed on a wooden board. When it arrived at our table, the stone was still so hot it was spitting droplets of fat. Being short in stature, I was right in the line of fire. Also, metal absorbs heat, so the steak knife leaning against the stone was too hot to touch. Another problem with this serving method is that a medium rare steak can quickly become well done. Anyway, I had to transfer the food to a plate before I could eat it. I strongly urge the chefs or waiters to plate the arrachera in the kitchen, even if the presentation isn't as dramatic. read more

Ocotillo Prime are masters of ambiance and presentation. This location is beautiful from the tables, light fixtures, artwork, and more. And the presentation of their drinks and food cannot be beat. Each item is beautifully offered. I mean, this was the most beautiful guacamole I have ever seen and it tasted great with the sweet, tangy, and spicy sauce served alongside. The service was quite good as the staff worked together to make sure to take care of us. We loved our meals (and even the leftovers were great). My burger was flavorful and juicy enough that a napkin was required. If is was to ask for one thing, it would have been stronger flavor profiles for their speciality drinks. I love this restaurant. I came a few months ago for the first time and have been dreaming about coming back ever since. Because it is pricier, I wanted to make a special occasion of dining there again. However, when we visited last night the service was not great, the food took forever to come out, and when it did, was cold, and our server forgot to bring us one of the sides we ordered. We ordered 2 appetizers before hand also and those came out cold as well. I was pretty let down from our first experience eating there. Came here with the family when a friend was visiting from out of town. She loved it. It was also our first time. The place itself is attractive. Seems nice for a dinner date out but not too fancy/intimate. The atmosphere was lively without being too loud. The staff was helpful and friendly. Great service. I ordered a mezcal cocktail with passionfruit to drink. I would have liked it less sweet/syrupy but it was still tasty. The carne asada plate was cooked to perfection. I loved everything on it. The salsas were delicious. And I like how they also served a bean dip with the complimentary chips. Overall I'd definitely come here again. I think the carne asada plate was well worth it but I might skip the cocktail next time. Same for plates like quesadilla or birria grilled cheese. Our server Michael was so nice and fun and gave us recommendations on what to have. Birria Grilled Cheese - 10/10 - if you want an upgraded version of Disneyland's famous grilled cheese Birria, come here! It was amazing! The beef is juicy, tender, and freaking awesome. Consommé was fabulous. And I didn't think I'd like the potatoes wedges, but they were just amazing. Arrachera Sandwich- 10/10 - phenomenal steak inside a tender steak sandwich. A Hidden Gem for Lunch! I popped in for lunch on a Tuesday, and it was wonderfully uncrowded. Part of me wants to keep this spot all to myself, but it's just too good not to share! The table service here was fantastic. Our waitress was incredibly attentive and offered some excellent suggestions when we asked for them. Appetizer: Pig Wings Al Pastor Style - 9/10 Our group of four started with the pig wings al pastor style, which are essentially delicious mini bone-in ribs. They were absolutely phenomenal! I regret not getting a photo, but I found one online that's gives you an idea of what they are. The only minor critique is that the blue cheese dip could have had a more pronounced "blue" flavor. Main Entrée: Baja Shrimp Tacos - 6.5/10 For my main, I opted for the Baja shrimp tacos. The flavor was definitely there, but I found the breading on the shrimp a bit too heavy, which overshadowed the delicate shrimp itself. On the flip side, the red and green salsas served alongside were incredibly flavorful and packed a perfect amount of heat. Dessert: Key Lime Cheesecake - 8/10 We finished by sharing a key lime cheesecake among the 4 of us - we were already quite full! The cheesecake was a substantial size, and the flavor was spot-on, though it could have used just a touch more key lime zing for my personal preference. The crust was a little unconventional, but it actually added a nice textural element that worked well. A Personal Touch: To top it off, one of the owners stopped by our table to check in, which was a nice touch. Best restaurant in Utah County! The food was fabulous, the service was excellent, we'll definitely be back. We had the Guacamole Ribeye and the Beetroot Salad to start. Both were so good and the ribeye came with the most delicious sweet, smoky, slightly spicy sauce with the creamy guacamole - the best thing you've ever tasted. I ordered the Carne Asada Plate (yum!) with homemade corn tortillas. My husband had the Leña y Mar as recommended by our server, Sebastian. He especially enjoyed the Lobster Enchilada that came in the meal. We finished it off with the Dubai Churros. Our server, Sebastian, was so helpful, gave great recommendations, and took his time answering questions and guiding us through the menu. This one is a tough one we expect so much more from Sol Agave owned restaurant. The atmosphere was great you walk in and are greeted by a big wall with art. There is Art on the walls through out. The Service was fine at best. Appetizers were pushed hard on us after we declined, but they were very attentive. The food, we ordered 2 items that both included steak. The carne asada was bland not much flavors. The rib eye tacos were tough. It's hard to justify each plate priced at over $20 when I can get better quality and flavor from a taco truck. The Agua frescas as described were fizzy water with flavoring at best. No where near an agua fresca I take pride in Mexican food as I feel it is the best cuisine and has a lot to offer and I am struggling to justify visiting here again. read more

This is the third restaurant in this space and the owners are all tied together. All the places have been better than expected Mexican restaurants. This one has the nicest food options. To start, the cocktails were solid. Its not all about slushy margaritas. The restaurant includes what we tend to think of as Mexican, although done in an actual Mexican way. No orange cheese here. I got back from Mexico City a few weeks ago and nearly all these dishes would be at home there. So far I haven't had a dish I didn't like. Although, surprisingly, the Chicken enchilada mole was weaker than many. They used breast instead of dark meat and it was a bit dry. My wife's Short Rib Spaghetti was excellent. Personally, the vinaigrette it came with was a bit too sour for me. Typically, that wouldn't be so much of an issue, but the dressing didn't have any other flavor component to it except sourness. Also, the salad was supposed to come with fresh pineapple, as described on the menu, but instead, it had no pineapple and just super sour mango. I did like the pig wings. We've always enjoyed the food at this restaurant--the flavors and presentation have consistently been wonderful. Unfortunately, our visit yesterday fell short because of the service. Even though we had reservations, we waited about five minutes for the hostess to finish a phone order before acknowledging us--no eye contact or greeting in the meantime. We brought four friends who loved the food, but all of us were disappointed by the service. Our server took nearly ten minutes to appear after we were seated and remained largely inattentive throughout the meal. Between courses, only half the table was cleared, leaving dirty dishes and no space for the main courses. When entrées finally arrived, only half were served at first--the rest followed 12-15 minutes later. It felt like something was off--perhaps it was a new staff or a lack of training. Even getting the check required flagging down our server twice. The second time he ask if we wanted dessert?! Hello! I'm sharing this because I genuinely want this place to succeed. We have been eating at ocotillo prime for about a year and a half now (before it was Del Mar) and we typically bring our golden retriever and sit on the patio, have a great meal and enjoyable service. Tonight, we had planned to have a birthday dinner for our boy who turned 5, and unfortunately we thought it was going to rain so we quickly had to change our reservation from outside to inside (which we called and were able to easily make the change). Upon arriving to our reservation, Diana, one of the managers greeted us with a bag of goodies for our dog and told us they hoped he had a wonderful birthday. We were so sad we couldn't bring him for dinner (we were planning to get him a steak to celebrate the milestone birthday) but the staff made it such a memorable moment for us. The meal was everything per usual and the service was fantastic as well. It always is. Every dish we've tried, is so flavorful and well done, and consistently tasty. We have never had a less than favorable meal here. But this time was special and for that we will bring everyone we know to eat at this wonderful establishment with wonderful people every chance we get. read more

Great atmosphere and decor, gives moody vibes that's perfect for date nights. Food had great flavor, good presentation, and was surprisingly filling. I ordered the Leña y Mar plate with my steak medium rare but it came out more on the rare side, not a big deal since it was actually still pretty good but something to keep in mind. The lobster and shrimp enchiladas were interesting but actually quite tasty. Wife ordered the carne asada plate, also quite tasty. Meat was pretty tender, but other than that it's a fairly straightforward dish. Kind of wish the presentation on the tortillas was better since it was just wrapped in foil (compared to the rest of the plating just felt lack luster) and got cold quite fast. Highly recommend both plates. Also got the desert bloom (with Mezcal) and the Sol de Flor (with Tequila) drinks. Desert bloom was a bit too sweet and "syrupy" for my taste but was better once it got watered down. Not sure what mezcal was used but could only taste a hint of it in the drink, probably due to how sweet the rest of the drink was. The Sol de flor drink was quite good and refreshing. There's some dried flower garnish on the glass that makes a bit of a mess but not a big deal. Honestly, most of the visit was great except for the service. Our server didn't give enough time from when we sat down to look at the menu to order food so we asked for a minute to look at the drink menu. Guess the server took this as "I'll come back in 10 minutes". Once he came back his attitude was more stand offish. He tended to disappear for a really long period of time, checked in once throughout the whole meal before completely disappearing and then was nowhere to be found at the end of the meal. Considering how empty the restaurant was (maybe 5 other people there at the time), there really wasn't an excuse for how poor the service was. I'd understand if he was having an off night but it felt more intentional given how he interacted with other tables. A different server ended up cleaning our table, giving us boxes, offering dessert, and checking us out. She was great and I wished we had her serving us instead. A bit of a bummer that the service was so poor considering how good the rest of the experience was, just puts a damper on the visit. As long as you don't get the same server, I'd say it's worth a visit. read more

We went on Mother's Day, so I was surprised we were able to get a table for 7 with only 2 days' notice. The service was great, the ambiance was cozy with a great mural and nice lighting. It is more than you expect in a shopping area with fast-casual eateries. The portion sizes are big and great to take home. I had the fish tacos and they were excellent. It's absolutely beautiful, with a big mural and cool lighting, and a cozy vibe. When it comes to presentation, the plates have a serious wow factor. I got the pork wings, ribeye tacos, and flan. The wings easily came off the bone and the al pastor and pineapple glaze was delicious with the blue cheese dip. It might just be personal preference, but I found the ribeye tacos to be a little too heavy. Maybe I'm just not used to bone marrow, but that mixed with cheese, caramelized onions, and steak was kind of overwhelming. Could only eat one. The food overall though was tasty. In the end, it was a pricey meal (over $100 with drinks and another meal), so I don't know that it'd be my first choice of places to eat--but I plan to come back again and try something else on the menu. read more

The staff squeezed me in despite not having a reservation for dinner on Saturday night. It was pretty busy so there were long wait times for food and service at times. But due to the circumstances, it was totally understandable. Staff were polite and apologized for the wait time multiple times. Beans + salsa were typical, chips were fine, nothing out of the ordinary. The short rib spaghetti was the best dish of the night. The spaghetti was solid but the ratio of noodles:meat was very skewed. The meat was too chewy for my tastes and it was slightly bland. The Hamburger had cool presentation. The server cut the burger in front of us, revealing the cheese and patty. The patty was a bit dry and the cheese had an artificial taste. The birriadilla was solid. The broth and birria itself left something to be desired. But the sides and salsas were solid. The drink was delicious! Best part of the whole meal. The restaurant was very cute and cozy. 3.5 We went on a Saturday around 1:30. I think there were four other occupied tables. Chips, salsa, and bean dip were brought promptly. Those were good-I think the same salsa as when it was Del Mar. We ended up ordering things we'd had before the name change: shrimp tacos and the surf & turf burrito. Both were as good and maybe a little better than before, however I'd forgotten how much batter is on the shrimp and it makes the tacos impossible to pick up. I ended up removing the batter and eating the tacos with utensils. The slaw was tasty, and the beans and rice were OK. My husband loved his burrito. While the items we got were essentially the same as from Del Mar, they were pricier than before, Our server was attentive, but the food took a long time to come out. I noticed the table of 3 next to us didn't get their food delivered at the same time; there were 5-10 minutes between delivery of each dish. The interior is lovely and had a more upscale vibe than previously. I'd like to try some other things, but will wait a while since I thought it was a little overpriced. Sol Agave has some delicious and more moderately priced options, so I'd probably go there instead. read more

I absolutely love this place! It is a very strong contender with Sol Agave, which is also excellent! I love the amount of quality pictures they have on their menu too, as this makes picking a restaurant and deciding ahead of time much simpler. I wish more restaurants would do this, because a picture can sell your food. I love that. They have a similar flare as sol agave, but have made their menu their own, and do not have copycats. The guacamole ribeye appetizer had an amazing char flavor that blended well with their well seasoned guac and pomegranate seeds. The short rib bone-in Birria is quite honestly the best I've had! The Lena y Mar with all of its sides is an amazing blend of Mexican flavor that keeps me coming back to order it again almost every time! Their key-lime cheesecake is an excellent fruity and citrus dessert option that blends well with their high-quality Mexican dishes! If you're feeling like a more rich and fruity alternative to Sol Agave's butter cake, I would highly recommend the key lime cheesecake! Overall, this place is an excellent high-end Mexican restaurant that I don't have to go to Salt Lake area to enjoy!
