We have heard about this restaurant since moving to Utah and wanted to see what it's all about. We had no idea it was more of a "fancier" restaurant. The interior was super cute, clean and smelled great. The hostess was welcoming and sat us within a couple minutes. Our server was so nice and was helpful with recommendations. Now if I'm completely honest, we were pretty disappointed quite a bit after this. The presentation of our plates were beautiful, the portions were decent, the prices were a bit high considering the food itself was just okay. I appreciated the flavors combined but their meats alone were very bland. We ordered our son a steak (medium). The steak we got was mostly (unevenly) done. We have ordered steaks many times and know what a medium steak looks like and with the price we paid...we expect to get just that. I had mentioned that the steak was over cooked when the server asked how everything was and she was so sweet and offered to have another made for our son. A couple minutes later, the manger came to our table and was beyond rude. He spoke to us condescendingly saying the steak was cooked to temp but it clearly was cooked to temp and then some. He was argumentative talking to us like we were stupid and that alone made it to where we never would visit this place again. The server was apologetic even though she was great. That manager just needs a lesson or two on people skills and how to properly cook a steak. read more

This place is amazing and is not your normal Mexican food place. The restaurant and atmosphere is very nice and all of the staff were so nice, especially Max, our waiter who came back multiple times to check on us and make sure we were doing ok. I had the Sol Agave bowl which had the typical rice, beans and veggies, but it was so much more than typical. You could add on a meat, or grilled veggies. Being vegetarian, I chose the veggies and the fact that were grilled elevated the dish. It had salad, really tasty spicy dressing (and it was not over dressed),some Mexican cheese and guacamole on top. I would go back just to have that dish again. My cousin had the chile rellenos and said they were super tasty too. I would like them to offer more vegetarian options. Maybe offer a base dish as vegetarian and then if add protein to it, charge a little bit more for the protein. This is the way the sol agave bowl was offered and it was great to be able to choose the non-meat option. read more

I want to start by saying I really wanted to love this place. I specifically chose it based on the menu for my Mother's Day outing, and I was genuinely excited to try it. I also really hate writing bad reviews. We try to go out of our way to let people know when they're doing a good job far more often than when they're doing a poor one. But unfortunately, I feel like I need to write this review. Left here feeling severely disappointed, especially for Mother's Day weekend. The restaurant didn't appear busy, and we were seated immediately. After we ordered, we were told the ticket time would actually be 50 minutes. Not ideal with three kids, and honestly something that should have been communicated upfront, but we accepted it since we had just ordered. Unfortunately, things only went downhill from there. About 40 minutes later, our first child's meal arrived, and the chicken tenders were cold. Ten minutes later, another kid's meal came out. Then another 10 or so minutes passed before the third child's meal arrived. Meanwhile, the adults still had nothing. Anyone dining with kids knows how frustrating it is trying to manage everyone eating at completely different times. Our server did apologize, and eventually the manager came over because he had apparently "noticed" we were unhappy. What was frustrating was that during all this time, nobody was proactively trying to make the situation better. Plates sat uncleared, nobody asked if we needed drinks, refills, or anything while we waited endlessly for food. Even while we were being apologized to multiple times, nobody cleared the growing pile of dirty plates off our table. We also got a lot of lip service that honestly just made the situation more frustrating. Things like, "This is totally on us" -- yes, we know it is. Or, "I'm going to put a rush on your order." At that point we had already been sitting there forever wondering why that hadn't happened much sooner. At one point, my husband finally told the manager that if the restaurant was that far behind or tables were clearly unhappy, he should probably be helping his servers rather than standing around doing nothing, which we had watched him do repeatedly. A little while later, the manager attempted to clear some plates himself and ended up spilling salsa all over the floor. Accidents happen, no big deal, but honestly it perfectly summed up the experience: reactive instead of proactive, scrambling to respond after problems had already piled up and creating even more issues in the process. My husband ordered two drinks, and each took around 30 minutes to arrive. We had plenty of time to notice the bartender standing around chatting while drinks weren't being made, which honestly explained a lot about the pace of service. When the food finally arrived, it was incredibly underwhelming. Cold food, bland flavors, and very overpriced for the quality. My husband's shrimp dish had tiny chopped pieces of shrimp buried in what tasted like generic tomato cream sauce. It simply was not good. At that point, the wait wasn't even the main issue anymore -- waiting that long for below-average food made it even more disappointing. The manager kept apologizing but never actually offered solutions in the moment. No appetizer comp while waiting, no drinks for the kids, no attempt to improve the experience while we sat there frustrated for over an hour. The only thing ultimately offered was a free dessert after the meal. That completely missed the point. We don't expect perfection, and we don't mind paying premium prices for great food and service. But this experience delivered neither. Honestly, we had far better service and a better overall experience at Culver's earlier this week for a fraction of the price. We won't be returning. Between the slow service, lack of management, mediocre food, and poor value, this was a major letdown. read more

We recently came back here and would still give this restaurant 5 stars! However we tried some new things that I think are note worthy. This time we got the lobster enchiladas, the guacamole sampler, the steak medallions, and the butter cake to finish. We loved the guacamole and would highly recommend. Comes with three types, all with a slightly different taste, infused with different types of meats/seafood. Really incredible. I also loved the enchiladas. The steak has a beautiful presentation and unique flavors, but I'd probably choose something different next time. However, don't leave without the butter cake! Truly amazing! Our waiter was very kind, and attentive to us. However my one complaint was that our food took a LONG time to come out. The restaurant was totally packed (for obvious reasons) but figuring out how to make that much food in a shorter amount of time might be something to look into. Highly recommend this food! read more

Definitely my go-to spot for Mexican brunch! The café de olla is delicious, especially when paired with some galletas Marías. The chilaquiles with green sauce have that authentic flavor, and the huevos rancheros come with perfectly crunchy tortillas and steak cooked just right. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is nice, clean, and welcoming. Prices are reasonable too--around $20 per plate for brunch. Their Buenos Días menu runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and it's totally worth checking out. read more

Huge thank you to Netsai, she was so sweet and her suggestions were very helpful and she checked on us frequently even though they were so busy. She really went above and beyond to make our experience a good one. We came here for brunch after hearing good things, but we were pretty disappointed. I think some restaurants are better for certain meals, and brunch just isn't Sol Agave's strong point. I had the tres leches French toast and the texture just wasn't for me--it was really soggy (which makes sense for tres leches), but taste and texture-wise it didn't work. My husband got the huevos rancheros which were okay, but nothing special. My brother-in-law ordered the sopes Benedict and really didn't enjoy it--he didn't even finish. On the bright side, our waiter was super nice and attentive. I'd maybe recommend them for lunch or dinner, though I personally think there are better Mexican fine dining spots around. The food is really really good. The service was less than what we expected at a high end restaurant. Server brought the 3 drinks out at separate times, 2 sodas and a mocktail. We also waited quite awhile for our meals. And they also came out separately, which was a little awkward. If you want really high quality, very tasty food, it's going to cost you a LOT here. First timers but I've heard so many good things about it. Our waitress was such a sweetheart & gave so many good recommendations for the food. We started with a Mocktail each, Guava Mule & San Clemente. Yummy! Appetizers, guacamole trio & the taco plate of the different meats they serve. Guacamole was served with plantains, a side of their homemade tortilla chips, salsa, & refried beans. Flavorful! Now the taco platter - she was not lying at how tender the meats & flavorful it would be. Now our entree's were definitely worth the wait. Del Mar Sea Bass, Enchiladas De Langosta, & Mar Y Tierra! Presentation & Taste - Magnificent. I had the Mar Y Tierra & I've never had anything like it. The sauce was creamy, enchilada filled with their tender meat, & topped with shrimp. Portions were a pretty good size, so we definitely took the rest home. However, we couldn't leave without having to try what they're really known for. The Butter Cake! It was definitely worth all the hype & I would come back time & time again for this! It was ooey gooey with a little bit of crunch, buttery, cinnamon, & topped with vanilla ice cream. We got just the one to share cause it was again - a good size. The ambiance, it was alive & well with Spanish music flowing throughout the place & dimly lit. It was a bit crowded & hot but worth it. If we could give more stars than 5, we definitely would. We started by making our reservation for 9 at the WRONG location and showed up right on time at the American Fork restaurant. Olivia at the front (and the rest of the host staff) were not only accommodating but also very kind, especially in light of my dumb mistake! Even though it was Friday night and we had 9 people, they quickly accommodated us. We were seated within 5 minutes. Plus they seated us in the outer (quieter) room, in a corner, which was so nice with kids. Then we had the pleasure of a wonderful server, Reese, who kept us all fully stocked with chips and salsa, never letting our bowls get empty. She got our orders right, got the 5 year old fed first, and always made sure we had full waters. She checked on us a couple of times but wasn't intrusive at all. I haven't even talked about the menu but let's just say we all left a little chubbier but with smiles on our faces. They even had complimentary birthday cakes, which we've found most restaurants don't do anymore. Thank you, Sol Agave, for a lovely evening. I'm afraid you may be stuck with us as frequent diners. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. Unfortunately it's just gotten a little too overpriced for the portions. They do give complementary chips, beans and salsa. This was the portion size for Carnitas and they are $25. It does also come with rice and beans but personally, I'd like to actually have more meat. My partner enjoyed the huevos rancheros. I also opted to try the jalapeño strawberry margarita but the pieces of jalapeño were a little too big making it a little hard to drink but after taking them out it went down easier. I've never been to this location, so maybe it's just a little different. read more

The prices seemed really high to me and I typically like Mexican with a bit more flavor. (I'm a flavor and price over fancy presentation kind of guy). We ended up spending $80 for two plates of carnitas, a rice pudding and a soda that they charged us for that wasn't ours but should have been charged to our friends at the same table... Truthfully I've had better Mexican food for less than half that price. Plenty of other people were waiting in line so as I said, I don't think I'm the target market. Every bite felt like a celebration of tradition and culture. What really made the experience special was the care and attention from Chef Carlos and the entire staff. The seasoning was spot-on--clearly made with love and expertise--and the service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The American Fork Sol Agave has skyrocketed since its launch 2020. There's a reason they had to move locations -- this restaurant is busy 7 nights a week. The food is unique and delicious. Some items are fairly priced while others seem to be a bit overpriced. But the quality is consistently on point. On my most recent visit, the food was delicious but it was very slow getting to our table. Each of our menu items came out at separate times. From the first dish to the last, no less than 60 minutes had passed. (Our salmon salad came out very last, which seemed odd since it was arguably the easiest to prepare.) Our server was really nice and apologetic, so that helped a little. The sugar cane filet, pulpo a las brasas, and the shrimp taquitos won the night. They were all exceptionally prepared and flavorful. You really can't go wrong with any menu item at Sol Agave. (Be sure to make a reservation and be prepared to pay a decent price for a decent meal.) read more

This is more of an upscale Mexican restaurant with a limited menu and a lot of seafood options. I typically prefer more down home mom & pop joints. The overall ambiance was clean and contemporary. We didn't wait long at 5:30 on a Saturday to be seated. Our server Marco was great. The Cadillac margaritas are very small for $16. An Agua Fresca is $9!!!! The chips are ok, but the beans and salsa dips were really good. It's quite pricey in my opinion. Our dinner did take quite awhile to come out as it was very busy. My husband had the Tacos de Hongo and said they were amazing. The meat was perfect. I had the Crispy Chicken Tinga Tacos and I only ate one. The chicken was dry in my opinion and not very tasty. For desert we tried the butter cake since it was highly rated in reviews. It wasn't worth $15 that's for sure. I've had better and more affordable. I won't get back as I'm nut really into overpriced specialty Mexican meals. But it was a very popular spot, so if this is your thing, go check it out! read more
