We came for a late dinner on a Friday night so it was busy. We did have to wait a bit but that's on us for not making a reservation. The food was worth the wait though. The service was fast and attentive, the food came out quick, and then portions were large. I typically get combination plates when I go to Mexican food places so I can try a couple different things and I LOVED the beef tamale that was in my combination. The restaurant is smaller so it did get quite loud, but that's to be expected. The chips and salsa were yummy and we left with quite a bit of leftovers. From the moment we walked in, the staff seemed irritated that we were there and were unfriendly throughout our visit. The restaurant itself also did not appear clean, which immediately made us uncomfortable. We ordered several different menu items, and every dish tasted off with a strange metallic flavor. We waited about 30 minutes before we even got our drinks. The food was overcooked and for being a Mexican restaurant they did not know how to properly cook a quesadilla. I have mixed feelings about Maria Bonita. We usually go with my in-laws when all the family gets together, and it isn't always the best. Their service is lacking with big groups, and often, we are left waiting for long periods before the food arrives, on top of the long wait times to get into the restaurant. That being said the food is very good. Although, it does bother me that more than one round of chips costs extra. Highly recommend the following: Enchiladas with rice and beans Tostada Burritos and Flautas are bigger than my forearm- so if you're extra hungry you'll want to feast on one of those. I have had Maria Bonita a few different times with shotty experiences in the past, but I always try and give restaurants another chance in case they had a bad day. I went around 1 o'clock, there was no wait and while the restaurant was a little busy, nothing that was not manageable. I and one other person were seated and promptly forgotten about. It took around 20 minutes for someone to come take our order, although the food came very quickly which was a plus. After we had finished it took another 30 minutes to get the check. This place is always crowded, like really hard to just find parking type of crowded on most evenings and there is a good reason. Great atmosphere, great Mexican food, and great service. Wanted to come back and try this place after 5 or so years. It was ok, very popular with a little wait but not too bad. Support staff was very friendly and kind. I felt a little cramped in there but was able to fit everyone. The food was fine. I had been hoping the Mole would have been what I remembered from places I ate on the border but it was just ok and then the fact that the price might be a little high for what you are getting.
