I used to work here (nearly 20 years ago) and I STILL crave it and come to eat when I can. If that doesn't speak for itself, I don't know what does. I love the shredded beef in any of the dishes but especially the taquitos. The owner is amazing and kind and the restaurant is always clean. The reviews made us so hopeful, but we were let down mostly because the server was so inexperienced. Young kid - just needs training in the basics ... and a personality. Smile. Refill the waters. People aren't ready to order right after they sit down. Know something about the menu. Don't be so awkward. My fish tacos were very dry. Chips were good - thin and fresh. The salsa was pretty good - too much white onion for my tastes and the young man was stingy with it. (Brought more chips when we asked but no more salsa even though our little bowl was empty.) Chicken enchiladas were solid. The chicken tortilla soup was different. Creamed. I didn't dig it but I liked that they are trying something new. We'll try back another time. read more

Unassuming place and I believe the owner was our waitress. I ordered a cocolito and it was the bomb. Non-alcoholic piña colada with strawberries. I paired it with a chimichanga (pork with green sauce aka chile verde). This was how chimis should taste! Lots of meat with a medium spicy tangy chile verde sauce. This isn't authentic Mexican but if you know that going in you should be fine. Their chips and salsa taste fresh, the salsa is mild and tasty with some chunks. My favorite is the Debbie's Chicken Chimichanga - I haven't gotten anything else (maybe a salad once?) The sour cream sauce is a nice change to red or green sauce. The chicken is tender and flavorful (chicken stock and seasonings), the fried tortilla light and flakey. Seems like it's a small mom and pop place, so the service is a tad on the slow side with the food taking a bit to get to the table. Because we know this, we don't show up starving. Solid local Mexican food with a unique twist. Cocolito's has friendly staff and service, a pleasant Southwest-style interior, and food with fresh ingredients and unique flavors. Like any good Mexican food place, the chips and salsa are free and they aren't stingy with refills. The salsa is good if a bit salty and very little spice (typical of most Utah County Mexican food places). What sets them apart from other local Mexican food places are their takes on some of the classics. They have a great chimichanga which has a crunchy fried exterior and meaty interior but also is topped with a cheesy sour cream mixture that really takes the flavor to another level. The fish tacos are another highlight with a light breading and tender cod that doesn't overdo the sauce and a yummy cabbage slaw on top. I also like their beans which are a mixture of black and red refried for a more rich texture and taste. This is one of the better places in downtown PG to stop by on a weeknight for dinner. read more

Ive been coming to cocolitos for years, its been a wonderful place since the orem location and i bring everyone i can to try it!

I want to give this place 5 stars because the food is great, but a restaurant experience is about so much more. The first time I came here, it was with about 5 other people. It wasn't crazy busy, but there were a few other tables occupied. Our drinks took about 10 minutes to get to us, and our food took about an hour. The second time, there were only 2 of us, our drinks took again, about 10 minutes, and our food took about 45 min. We were one of only two occupied tables in the whole restaurant. As we sat, more people began to come in. They waited 30+ minutes for a table, again, the restaurant not being very busy, and at least one of the 3 families waiting left after about 35 minutes of waiting... Once we were finished, a to-go box took about 15 more minutes, and our check took another 15. We spent way more time waiting than we did eating. Definitely the slowest service I've seen in a long time. When our plates were brought out, the plate was so hot that I burned my finger enough for it to slightly scab over. No warning from our waitress that the plates were hot. Again, the food is great, but all of the other things in the review make it difficult for me to continue giving this place a try. read more

Came here a couple of times already so this review is overdue. Decent Mexican food, but the prices are a bit high in my opinion. They don't have any weekday lunch specials, and if they start doing this, they might have more foot traffic in their restaurant during lunch hour. But the chips are warm, salsa is a bit bland though - had to put a bit of salt in there and mix a bit of the spicy salsa to give it the right kick. They do actually have a good sizzling chicken fajita platter (almost $13). This review would've been 4 stars, BUT the amount of guacamole and sour cream that is served with the platter is like a TEASPOONFUL size. When I asked if I can have more, they actually charge for more, so I didn't get more. I can understand some folks might not even consume the sour cream/guacamole that comes with it, so I can see why you would serve it in a small portion. BUT there are others like me, who actually eat it with their meal. If price or waste of food is an issue, maybe they should consider asking people if they actually want their plate served with the sour cream/guacamole. Just a suggestion! However, I do love that their horchata is bottomless! read more

Have gone to this restaurant since it opened as a take out only restaraunt in Lehi! This family works so hard! Always the same chef and head waitress (a husband wife team). I've loved watching all their kids grow up in the business! I love the lemon splash on their chips and that they are always fresh and warm! I love the Debbie's Chimi that combines the yumminess of and a lil kick! The Carnitas are flipping amazing! The flavor is PERFECTION! FRESH corn chowder is available in season and delish! I can't talk enough about the fried ice cream. ...mmmmm! Their signature drinks are so good as well! This is a great restaurant bring a big family for an a social occasion, which we do many times a year! I love that I don't feel rushed when I go to Cocolitos! I had never been here before and was happy we went. The service was fast. The food was hot and flavorful. I had the fajitas and really enjoyed them. I had a bite of my husband's chimichanga and was amazed. The jalapeño sour cream was unlike anything I've ever tasted before and it made me want to go back for another bite. My husband and I have passed by this place several times but it wasn't until recently that we decided to stop by. We went during a slow time and ended up being the only ones there at first, which made us nervous. However, after receiving our food, we were very glad that the lack of customers at the time did not turn us away! The chips we received while we waited were warm, and the salsa had just the right kick. The waitress was very polite and very attentive. We came again today and had a different waitress. It was a bit busier today, but our service was just as good. If you decide to stop by, I recommend ordering the Cocolito's Cooler with your meal! read more

On the surface, this seems like so many other sit-down Mexican restaurants that fill this area. Having eaten here numerous times, I really do like Cocolito's better than many of its competitors around the county. This place has consistently had prompt service with good food at a fair price, and I've enjoyed every visit here. Of particular note is their side offering of beans. They are prepared like refried beans, but with black beans rather than pinto. I'm not usually a black bean fan, but these are yummy! I always recommend them to first-time visitors. Give them a try! This location is very easy to find and offers plenty of street parking. If you're hankering for some Mexican and you're in the area, it is definitely worth a visit. read more

I love supporting local when the restaurant tries hard to please and doesn't try to be something their not. If you want atmosphere, go to Mi Ranchito. Service is not great. It's usually slow, orders have been messed up and, while not mean, its definitely not friendly. The real kicker for me was on multiple occasions I've arrived at 11:30, when they are listed to open and have to wait outside for 20+ minutes to wait for staff to arrive. I brought this up to the manager on duty and was given half an apology and a defensive "i try my best to be here on time." We all have personal lives, but when you have a business, the least you can do is open when you say you are going to open, thats not too much to ask for. My husband and I were in the area and decided to give Cocolito's a try. We walked in and were greeted by a very friendly woman who sat us at a booth. The facility was very clean and simple and we took a look at their menu. It was small which is a nice change from your normal Mexican restaurant which can have way too many options. Taking a peek at the drink menu, they serve Pepsi products and only virgin drinks. I ordered myself a virgin piña colada not expecting much. But it was surprisingly tasty and had real coconut pieces blended in which was delicious. The chips were from a bag and were terrible. The salsa was also in the same rank of Pace Picante. Meh. Not good. My quesadilla was good as was the black refried beans but the rice was awful tasting like Uncle Ben's microwave rice. Taco Bell quality food for a much higher price. I could have ordered roughly 20 tacos from Taco Bell which would have left me satisfied and smiling. Unlike Culo-Litos. Not visiting ever again. read more

Cocolito's had some good things going for it, but on the whole, it was a disappointment. We went in with our two kids on a Thursday night and got seated right away. Our server was pleasant and checked in with us several times to make sure we were doing alright. The chips and salsa were also fairly good. However, the food was only so-so. I got the fish taco platter, and my husband got nachos with everything on it. Both dishes were super hot when they came out, but they did not taste fresh. We were also seated pretty close to the kitchen door and we heard the microwave being used multiple times. Long story short, if you are looking for authentic Mexican food (or even just freshly made Mexican food), you're probably better off going to Cafe Rio. read more

I tried this place because they are in a nearby corner in my neighborhood. Right by firebird pizza and the pg library. This is such a cool neighborhood. It's definitively my favorite spot in all Utah county. You can get there from the 850 bus very easily between the university or SLC, which just adds to the loveliness of this location. Now about this establishment. Tasty nachos! I recommend ordering two of the most deluxe version. Next I wanna go back to try chimichangas. I feel like you get a good amount of food for the price. There's a slight premium because it's a small operation run by family. Happy to pay it to support great people. They treat you excellently always. read more
