Ok, first of all the margaritas flamas is the best margarita I have had since moving to Utah. It's absolutely amazing! And as it is the same price as the basic margarita it's a great value for a premium drink. As far as the food goes, it's the best Mexican I have had since moving here from AZ. Yes, if you read some of my other reviews I have said that before, but it keeps being true. And one of my very best friends that is actually from Mexico agrees, this is the best she has had too. I can't believe the transformation of this place in the past year! It used to be a kind of a quaint hole-in-the-wall type place. If you're a local, the ambiance was more like Chubby's. But wow! It has undergone a complete remodel and revamp of the menu. The food was always affordably passable, but now? This place could exist in Park City - both as regards the ambience and the menu, but the prices are still super affordable! They have added a BUNCH of new plates that are presented like they're on Top Chef, but you can still get street tacos à la carte for $.99 as well! The older gentleman who sat us was very kind and knew the menu very well, the restaurant was the cleanest one I've seen ever! What a hidden gem! Tucked in the back corner of a small shopping plaza in Pleasant Grove you will find this amazing place! From the chips and salsa to the chili relleno and asada burrito you can not go wrong!! I've been going here for many years---15 plus...so this is not easy to write. Great & classy new interior...the makeover is very nice & attractive. Unfortunately the food has changed A LOT and in my opinion not for the better. The red enchiladas sauce tasted like ketchup ..the beans had no flavor. The chili was bland. The chicken on the quesadilla & enchilada was dry. The server was fantastic & very accommodating..could not have been nicer. They need to bring back the old cooks and have their old food back. The food was really good. And the service was good. But they had live music and it was so loud that you could not even talk to each other across the table. We were having to actually shout to hear each other. It was so unpleasant. When you just want to go out and have a quiet meal and talk. Music in a restaurant should be quiet and in the background. Just an accompaniment to your meal. Not the main attraction. We finally just boxed our food up and left. But the food was really good and so I probably would go back at a time when I knew they were not doing live music. read more

When we first saw Los 2 Compadres we thought we were facing what appeared to be another "hole in the wall" Mexican restaurant. When we walked into this well kept secret dining oasis we were pleasantly surprised. As you can see from the pictures it's a nice place to dine. For a Monday night, their business stayed steady. Mexican fiesta banners hang throughout the dining areas. There are large screens on all the walls with projectors facing each screen for displaying live bands on the weekend. Service was quick! Complimentary chips and salsa were brought out immediately upon our being seated and more chips offered when the basket was empty. They weren't the best chips we've ever had but far from the worst. The salsa was mild with just the right amount of heat. The small salsa bar had enough variety of salsa and other toppings to satisfy any palate. We placed our order within minutes of our arrival and our food was delivered shortly after our ordering. The Shrimp Enchilada dinner was PACKED with chunks of shrimp! The taste was great! I will definitely order that dinner again. Where most Mexican restaurants garnish their plates with a piece of lettuce and tomato, this one actually had salad with a light vinegar and oil topping. The Chili Relleno looked very appealing and was one of the best we've had since leaving Texas. The rice contained mixed veggies; the refried beans were pretty typical. Their horchata was probably 32 ounces and was cold and refreshing without being watered down. We rarely give any restaurant a five-star rating, especially on a first visit, but we're making an exception for Los 2 Compadres. This is our new go to Mexican restaurant for northern Utah county! read more

This restaurant has been completely remodeled since the last time I went a few years ago. What used to be more of a casual, hole-in-the-wall (with awesome food) restaurant is now great date spot in Pleasant Grove! And the occasional live music makes for a fun ambience too. The menu is awesome. We had the fajitas and Baja tacos, and both dishes were excellent quality and good flavor, and you've got to try the churro cake!! So good!! This was such a nice little place with a greatly decorated interior! We went here for lunch and I got some street tacos. They were well priced and well flavored! The toppings choices were excellent and the salsas where delicious. The staff was friendly and he even came back to double check that he had my order right. At our friends recommendation, we went there last night. The service was slow and inattentive. It was terrible. The food was mediocre. The chips were stale and not tasty. The salsa was runny and not too good. The worst part was they had a guy playing guitar who's singing was very mediocre but the worst part was it was so loud we couldn't even talk to him. The 99 cents tacos are sooo good here! The first time I had them (carne asada) the meat was just OK. Second time I had it the carne asada was to DIE FOR! It was cooked well done and had good seasoning. The third time (today) the meat wasn't cooked well done (i prefer it well done) and the meat wasn't hot - was just warm. However, the horchata was pretty good and the kids can get an order of fries for $1.79 - pretty good deal and it's a good amount! So the place needs a bit of consistency in their tacos but the service is good. I'll def come back and get the tacos but will be more specific in how I want the meat cooked. Since not many restaurants in the area have any interest in serving alcohol, we came here in hopes of some margaritas to enjoy the afternoon. Aside from the drinks being disappointing (in case alcohol is not a deciding factor for you), we were equally disappointed in the food as well. To start, they didn't actually serve margaritas, but only the margarita or pina colada mix AND they charge 5 dollars just for that. We opted for some familiar mexican beers. The salsa was quite runny and had little to no flavor. The cheese dip was unlike any I have seen before, coming in a large skillet with an odd texture and it wasn't very hot. I had the enchiladas suizas which was ok, but not great. My husband had the street tacos which he really enjoyed and were pretty inexpensive as well, so I would recommend trying those if you dine here. Overall the service was pretty friendly, the food was just lacking quite a bit. read more

We went to Los 2 Compadres for the first time today. My husband got the Carne Asada, and I got the Mexican Flag Enchiladas. We were both happy with our dishes. I liked mine because it came with four different types of enchiladas: shredded beef, shredded chicken, cheese, and bean. They also came with three different sauces: red, white, and green. The shredded chicken with red sauce was my favorite. I loved how fresh everything tasted. Even the refried beans tasted fresh, unlike nearly every other Mexican restaurant that I've been to. The tacos al pastor are the best! This place is the best Mexican restaurant in Utah county.

You know how Shakira says her hips don't lie? Well, that's basically the jist here except these tacos don't lie. Did that make sense? No. But the sentiment still stands. I got 2 chorizo tacos, 1 pastor taco, and 1 VIP taco (pastor and melted quesadilla cheese). They have a large salsa bar filled with all the fixings you could want, plus some that aren't as usual at your run of the mill salsa bar. They had 3 different green salsas and 2 reds. I got the hottest green sauce (accidentally) and it was extremely hot but very good. They had pickled spicy carrots, jalapenos, and onions. They also had radishes, the best way to calm an over-spiced mouth. The space is very large and capable of holding lots of parties of people. Big screens playing latin pop music videos, soccer, telemundo news, and more. They serve beer for very cheap. These tacos really give me the motivation to keep on going. read more

There's a wide variety of authentic Mexican food available at this little restaurant attached to a grocery store / carneceria. For years now it's been pretty much a local haunt for folks from Mexico who live here, for both the store and restaurant: I always see workers eating large bowls of fish stews with tortilla's and garnishes. But recently they began to advertise with a guy standing out front and a .99 cent taco sign, and non-spanish speaking people began to come. Today when I ate there I saw a typical PG family eating and some business people as well. I think the sign is working in terms of expanding their business into the entire community. The tacos are good -- there's a wide variety of meats, but all I've tried is Al Pastor and Carne Asada. I've also not sampled the fish soups that seem to be so popular with the men I see come in together who eat and laugh and talk in spanish. I need to amend that. Not the best tacos I've had but it beats all the fast-food places hands down. read more

I ate a lunch special here the other day. Big mistake. Took it to go, so no chips and salsa to review. My favorite place in Orem, UT, sends chips and salsa and a drink with their lunch special for less money. Well done Mama Chus. Anyway, I got a steak taco, a chicken enchilada, with rice and beans. The beef was full of hard bits of unknown junk. Probably cartilage. Also chunks of fat, and overcooked meat. As poor quality taco as I have ever seen. The chicken, (that is being generous) was cooked in some sort of sauce I think. It was hard, stringy and more like a jerky than something moist and succulent. Not good. Add lima beans and peas to your rice for an authentic feel that is not wanted and what do you get? A bad lunch, with no chance of a return visit to this awful place. read more

I REALLY like this place. My husband and I have been coming once a week for 3 years. If you are looking for really authentic Mexican food for a great price- this is your restaurant. We walk out of there only spending 12 dollars with 4 tacos each, a Diet Coke and a generous tip. You seriously can't beat it. I do have to warn people though that haven't been here- if you are hoping to be waited on hand and foot... this probably isn't your place. We usually have to flag them down and when we want them to take our order or bring us out something else. This has never bothered us though because it usually isn't hard to get their attention. Also their chips are sometimes stale which makes me mad because their salsa rocks. But like I said- the price makes it all worth it read more

Avoid this place! First time I have ever walked out without l paying! They forgot our 2 kids meals. We all got drinks slowly... no refills on soda till the end of the meal. Waitress never came back to check on us. I got Fajitas under cooked Veggies, rice and beans where cold. Took a extra 5 mins for my Tortillas to come out and then another few minutes for them to warm up my plate in the oven. Girlfriend got enchiladas wrong sauce and cold beans. When you have to go to the bathroom you notice their kitchen which looks disgusting. Sanitary issues is a possibility here. Owner tried making it right but in the end he wasn't very sympathetic or apologetic. The waitress needs to stop being a waitress. There wasn't many people actually eating but still horrible service. It wasn't the worst food but between the service and some quality issues I will never be back. read more

Who knew a little isla de Mexico was here in Pleasant Grove. Our waitress spoke Spanish to us. Luckily my hubby could communicate. I love it. She recommended the VIP street tacos. Walked in and saw lots of tacky décor and mostly Mexican faces inside and immediately started expecting authenticity & a definite treat for food. It is authenticity, but of a different sort and sort of re-affirms the idea that authenticity does not always automatically equal quality. I will now note that some of the best meals of my life have been at authentic places, so I will always gamble for that hope, given the chance. It also bolsters my somewhat long-held belief that kitchens keep an entire different set of dishes or prepare it differently for clientele based on whether or not they speak the language. I'm only being semi-serious here because yes, I know the vast amount of work it would generally take to do this and no, I don't know that this restaurant does this, but times like this make me suspicious and even with all that work, it doesn't mean it's impossible. So, as you are probably gathering by now, I didn't find this too enjoyable. Menu, to start, is enormous, far too gigantic for anyone to do well. Chips and salsa was junk. Drink selection likewise, which left the main course. The place inside is pretty dark, which also sets off my Spidey senses, so I tried to play it safe and went with a Diablo shrimp dish, which is challenging to do well, but also somewhat hard to screw up greatly, at least in my experience. Here, it was also junk, with the sauce having an off-color, extremely odd consistency and a taste reminiscent of tomato sauce by way of ketchup. I thought the rice was fairly solid and the beans ok and the possibility exists I ordered the wrong dish, but I can also say conclusively I will never be back to find out. read more
