We waited at the reception a while for anyone to even notice we were there. They weren't too busy.. Only a couple tables. There were a lot of dirty tables and floors. The food was not good, the service was bad. The server didn't know anything about the menu. 10 minutes after we ordered the server returned to tell us they were out of what I ordered. No one bothered trying to clean the dirty tables around us the whole time. The menus were sticky and had crusty food on them. We waited 15 minutes for the server to bring our check after we had to find her to ask for it. Disappointing because it would be nice to be able to support a local small business. read more

The food is decent, which is why I've returned, but the service is SO slow. I hoped it would get better but as of my 3rd visit it hasn't. After waiting an hour (I have a text when I first got there) I asked to talk to the manager. Instead of at least apologizing, she rudely argued saying it was only 40 minutes (as if that was any better for only 3 tables). The server Mckenzie was so kind and I know it wasn't her fault. Someone before mentioned their awesome waitress. I figured it was her friend or something, but she was great. My son was cranky, so she brought him a piece of candy, and later crayons and paper. So nice to be somewhere they don't make you feel like you're imposing for bringing our kid. We eat at Cocolitos a few times a month because they are local and the food is good. Another point that my family loves is we aren't screaming over the music like at some other restaurants, we can have a conversation. We love that it is ran buy a husband and wife team and everyone is so friendly. My only suggestion is don't go if you are in a rush, because they are family run it takes some time to get seated and food! read more

I've been to Cocolito's twice. I really liked the chili-relleno and the salsa. The service was really good both times. The only thing I didn't like was the strong smell of essential oils that hits you when you walk into the place. I like the smell of Mexican food. Why not let it be the dominant smell of your restaurant? I complained about it and was told that the smell came from the soap store next door. After finishing my meal I visited the soap store and it didn't smell as strongly as the restaurant. I think the owner must be a DoTerra distributor or something. You know, your sense of smell effects your taste buds right? If you can get rid of the nasty oils, the food will taste tons better. read more

We love the Carne Asada Platter! Scott knows how to cook the steak perfectly! Love that I can make my own using their yummy flour of corn tortillas. I always choose flour. Best chips (they add lime juice people!). Salsa is good. read more

Not even close to the best Mexican food around! Bland and tasteless!! And I can't emphasize that enough....no flavor, over-cooked, dried out, and just blah!!!! All the good reviews on here are from people who are friends I'm sure. We ordered from the lunch menu and the food was delivered cold and tasteless. I'm so disappointed, I will not be going back. The food lacked any flavor and was over cooked. The service wasn't bad and the environment reasonable but the price was very high for a really bland lunch. I think someone needs to come in and teach some basic cooking classes to the staff. Some spices would go a long way. Plus you don't have to leave something on the stove for a week to make sure it's done. read more

I'd give them a one, however, the waitress was very kind and prompt. The reason I'd rate this a one is based on the food. I ordered a very simple, two taco meal. The rice it came with appears to be on the same level or below boxed rice. The worst part were the tacos; chicken and pork. The tortilla was raw/not soft, the meat was dry, and the toppings did not match. I'd compare this food to Taco Bell or something disgusting. I would personally not recommend eating here. read more

I love traditional Mexican food, so I have visited almost every Mexican restaurant in Utah County. While I like, even really like, a number of them Cocolitos is my favorite. Their cheese enchiladas are the best! The enchilada sauce is just spicy enough and tastes fantastic. Not heavy and tomato paste-ish or runny and not very flavorful. Then they have fresh iceberg lettuce piles on top. Sour cream if you like it--which I don't. Refried beans are black beans and taste great. I've also had their fajitas, burritos, carne asada, and deluxe quesadillas. Excellent. Everything tastes distinct and tastes fresh--so many places use the same basic sauce and everything starts to taste the same. Chips are thin and crispy and the salsa is fresh and homemade. Portions are just the right size; not over the top like some places. read more

My wife and I love this place. Their food always tastes good and comes out nice and fresh. I would recommend the chicken chimichanga, their fajitas, and a margarita. It's also located on old town Pleasant Grove on Main street which has some fun shops. read more

Okay, I live in Lehi, have eaten at most of the Mexican restaurants in the area, and have an idea what good Mexican food is. I heard that Cocolito's in Pleasant Grove was decent, so, it seemed that a Saturday afternoon just before the dinner rush was a good time to give it a try. What a disaster! There were only two customers in the place and a very young girl came to wait on us. She didn't know the menu and had to keep asking someone else to answer any questions about the food. I wanted a side of corn chowder only to be told they were out, yet, there was nothing mentioned on the menu regarding it being a seasonal thing. At this point, I would have been happy if they had popped a can of store bought corn chowder open for me. I also ordered a lemonade with the meal and later asked for a refill. I was told they don't refill the lemonade and I would have to pay for another drink. I can't remember what they charged me, but it was too much. The complimentary chips and salsa tasted stale and the salsa reminded me of a cheap brand you buy in a big plastic jug in the grocery store. The entree was bland, almost tasteless and the beans that replaced the corn chowder were inedible. It reminded me of beans at the bottom of the pan that stayed on the heat too long and then mashed up. Totally disgusting. Our waitress never bothered to refill water glasses and never bothered to ask if we wanted more chips and salsa. I didn't ask either as it was possible she would charge me for a refill. Besides, who wants to eat inferior crap. It will be a cold day in Hades before I step into that place again. It was almost as if they didn't care if I had a decent dining experience and couldn't wait for us to leave. This really ticks me off as I do shower and use adequate deodorant. This being said, I've let my friends and family know that I'll never waste my money in Cocolito's in Pleasant Grove again, and I sincerely mean it. read more

But the last two times i've been there at the pl. grove location, the service was slow slow slow. on both occasions, we were the only ones in the restaurant. i also felt that the food was a bit overpriced too. i got the carne asada platter both times and it was really good, but $13??? We're not going back. The food was fairly expensive for Mexican food - $13 for a burrito? But the main problem we had was extremely slow service. It took them 5 minutes to saunter out and notice we were waiting to be seated, another 20 to come back and take our order, 15 minutes to bring the water, another 15 to bring chips and some watery and bland salsa, etc. We still had no food an hour after we walked through the door. And I wouldn't mind any of that if the wait staff apologized for it or even seemed rushed, but they just ambled about without a care in the world. They were nice, and they did give us all our requests . . . eventually. The food was fine, once it came, but not worth the money. read more

This is our favorite Mexican restaurant in Utah. It reminds me of Ernie Jr's, our favorite place in Eagle Rock, California, which closed last year. The red sauce is home made, not out of a can. I would recommend everything on the menu, with the exception of the corn chowder. The service is friendly and the prices are fair. read more

Reviewing Cocolito's is going to be difficult because I want to be fair but honest.. My family and I love the food--it's some of the best Mexican in the area. I really like their their beans! However, the service is horrible. We have been here a number of times since they opened in Pleasant Grove, as well as at their old Orem location. Since opening in Pleasant Grove there have been some serious problems with service and it seems to be getting worse; tonight we waited for 45 minutes for our food. We finally had to ask the waitress--who was excellent, by the way--what had happened to our order. After about 5 minutes she came back and apologized for a mix-up in the kitchen. On other words, they lost our order! I'd hate to see this restaurant close because of service issues, because I can't say enough about the excellent food. They always have a "help wanted" sign in the window; obviously help is hard to find. I hope they can get their act together. I'd love to give them 5 stars; unfortunately, because of the poor service I can only give 3 stars. read more

This was the first time we have been to Cocolito's. We love Mexican food so we thought we would try it out. We had to wait about 20 mins to be seated, even though there were PLENTY of empty tables, and we were only told we would have to wait 10. We ordered our food and waited a good 40 mins to get it! That is just unacceptable to wait that long for food, we had to ask our waitress where it was and it finally came out one plate at a time. The food was good when we finally got it but to wait that long is just not ok. I wanted to order my little boy his own side of rice and beans but was afraid i'd have to wait another 40 mins so i didn't. We only saw our waitress 2 maybe 3 times the whole visit. We wanted our tickets seperated, we gave our waitress the two different cards and they were run totally wrong, so we had to go up front and fix that...although the food was decent. I'll never go back. Way to slow of food, way to slow of service and far to many mistakes. read more

First of all, let me try to describe to you how terrible it was just upon entering. We walk in, and the one waitress/host came up and clarified that there were two in my party. We said yes, and she said "Okay let me clean a table for you." Granted, there was one other person in the restaurant. Plenty of open tables. No menus were handed to us, and I watched her clean off about 4 tables, then sit us at one of the ones that she didn't clean, so one that was already clean before she "had to clean a table for us." We were finally seated and handed menus, then immediately left to clean more tables that had leftover food and mess from larger parties who left before we got there. After a few minutes she finally came back and asked us for our drink order. We ordered, and already decided on food too. Chips and Salsa came out before our waters, and while they have excellent chips and salsa, it couldn't excuse the horrible service we had received thus far. Food came out and was not great. Not terrible, but not great. Which is ridiculous because it was SO expensive. For instance, it's 14 dollars for a carne asada burrito. The number of places I could go for 14 dollars and get much more better tasting food is almost endless. The waitress took forever to get us our check and was so quiet we couldn't hear most of what she said. Horrible service, below average food, horrible prices, never returning. read more
