I'm disappointed and surprised that it's not the same or available at other BBD locations. Good diner, I recommend it. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. Today I returned to the Black Bear Diner in American Fork. After my last visit that was quite unpleasant, I spoke to the manager Fred. I promised to return and give them another try. I want to acknowledge Fred, the manager and my waitress Robyn for a pleasant, delicious breakfast and overall EXCELLENT service and eating experience. I am grateful to Fred for his professionalism and dedication to making my dining experience exactly what it should be. Thank you for the opportunity to return and enjoy a great meal. The service was fine, but half the food was undercooked. Eggs Benedict were bland and the English muffin was soggy, the potatoes were undercooked, the onion rings had powder in them, and the pancakes were undercooked and the batter was gummy. The burger and eggs were good. The waitress was nice and got the manager who checked in and went to the back to let the cooks know about the problem, but by the time the waitress had come back around awe were finished with our meals and ready to leave. Food was all right, I had the biscuits and gravy and it wasn't super flavorful but honestly, I was just really craving it and I'm glad that I could have it! Me and my husband went together and it was an overall bad experience. Our server, Hannah, made the experience the worst I've ever had dining out. To preface I'm in a wheelchair, she addressed us once when we sat down, we ordered water and our food very quickly, the food came out within five minutes. It was very quick and I appreciated that! We took about 10 to 15 minutes to eat, and at 20 minutes into our time at the restaurant, we're ready to close out and take our leftover home, she did not address us once the entire time after taking our orders, and handing us our food. We waited 20 minutes, and had to grab another server to be able to pay our bill. I have never felt discriminated against any time I've ever gone out in the three years I've been a wheelchair user, and I have never felt more discriminated against in this moment. Even if it wasn't discrimination (she was talking to all of the other customers normally and just ignoring us) she was an overall bad server. my husband even tried waving her down multiple times before grabbing another server. To summarize besides the most basic pleasantries while being seated and ordering our food she ignored us and didn't once refill our waters, didn't check in or ask how the food was or if we needed anything else. We had to grab one of her coworkers to get her to pay attention to us. My husband also stated that he saw her at the hostesses stand multiple times on her cell phone while we were waiting to pay our check and trying to flag her down. It was mine and my husband's first time eating at this location, and we will not be back. I would rather drive an extra 30 minutes to another location to never have to deal with the service that I had to deal with here read more

Restaurant has a very forest diner vibe which fits right into their brand which was nice. There was way too much writing that was super distracting - the place mats are full of information to read and their menu is inside a newspaper. Service was nothing special. Food was also nothing special. Everything needed salt desperately. The kitchen forgot to put any sauce on my burger. I ordered it lettuce wrapped and it came with way too much romaine, so I basically cut it up like a salad since it was impossible to hold. Burger patty was very small. Only 1/3 patty. Definitely get another patty. My husband's big pancake wasn't cooked through all the way. The bacon was yummy after we salted it. So overall, if you like unsalted diner food, you would enjoy this place. But it didn't impress me at all, so I don't think I'll be back. read more

We are in town for a wedding and came here to have a get together breakfast with families! There is plenty of sitting area! When we walked in we got a big welcome from the hostess! We went there this weekend and it took a hour and fifteen minutes to get a seat and we sat for another hour before we got our food and several others got their food before us and gave us a small amount off our bill. My food was cold. I would not recommend this dinner. read more

Went on a Friday for the fish fry. The fish was overcooked and dry. I asked our server to discuss the fact that we thought is was overcooked and if the cook could cook the second batch less. Nothing is worse than having to leave a bad review. Came here for lunch today and wished we hadn't. I ordered a cheeseburger and it came with a fresh cold piece of cheese on it which I wasn't really expecting. I asked the waitress if they could reheat it and melt the cheese a little and so they did and she was super nice about it and ended up comping my burger. Our waitress was SO nice and so helpful but the staff in the kitchen seemed to be kind of a wreck. We spent about 2 hours at the restaurant and there was just two of us. We also ordered french toast and it was good but it did take quite a long time for them to get those out to us. Overall disappointed in my experience here but I am impressed with how Hannah, our waitress handled the whole situation. Probably won't be back though. read more

We came here on New Years morning and it was quite the experience, it was almost like I was living a very strange movie. When we arrived there was no one up front to seat us and eventually someone came to seat us while they were talking on their cellphone, we could barley understand the person but I knew they signaling us to follow them so we did, after being seated by the person on their phone one of the waitresses came to us and said she was going to seat us in another area so we went with her to another. We eventually got settled in and ordered our food. When the food arrived my daughter's bear pancake was stale and honestly tasted like it was made the day before and reheated in the microwave. My Bears Choice meal was good and the pancakes were the size of my head! Definitely more food than any human being should consume in a single sitting. The whole experience here just seemed off and not like my previous experience at other black bear diners. I can't say I will be returning to this location. read more

We wanted to try this spot mostly because it was walking distance, and early morning walks was our thing. Come to realize this place has some really good options on their menu. We usually only come here for breakfast, but their dinner options are also really good and not even that pricey!! Its always really calm and chill every time we come here (granted we haven't came in during rush hour) so the ambience has always been great. However, we sometimes feel like the staff are on chill mode most of the time and food always takes so long to come and service is a little slow. I hate writing bad reviews but this is the second weird experience I have had at this location so I thought I would mention it. We typically go to black bear on holiday because they are consistently open when other restaurants are closed. Well when we were sat down in a section that was well in view I thought someone would come up to us immediately. Minutes and minutes passed and we even where looking around for someone to help us and no one stopped to see if we needed help. We even asked for help and someone said "be right with you" and then more time passed and nothing. It was so long that we just got up and left without even getting to talk to an employee. read more

It was about a seventeen-minute wait, and they had the option to text me when our table was ready, so we were able to wait in our car until we were ready to be seated. The reception area was neat and tidy, and the hostess was friendly and seated us right away. Every other table or booth was closed for social distancing. We got seated all the way at the back, at the "L" table. Our waitress got slammed with four tables before us, and she took the orders one table at a time and finally got to her fifth table, which was us. Luca was friendly and in good spirits though even though I noticed they slammed her with tables for lunch. She was courteous and knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered Bear's Choice, the Grizz, a burger with fries, and two kids' meals. I specifically ordered french fries for appetizers, hoping it would come way before our meals, but somehow it got missed by the cooks. I asked Luca about it and she was apologetic. The manager, Anthony came by and brought over the fries right away and also enthusiastically brought over condiments with our food. The management knew we needed to get taken care of so the fries were on the house. It was really a pleasant experience and would definitely come back to this location. We have always loved their pancakes here, as their pancakes taste like maple bar donuts! TRUTH and being serious here! Their bacon is always thick and spot on! So far I am. It disappointed in anyway with BLACK BEAR DINERS. Everyone has unique decor inside and outside. It is so extraordinary. I really enjoy it and they are always so friendly, the service is always top notch. For reals they make conversation and ask you about your day and how you are. That goes along ways in my book. As far as the food goes it was so yummy! Both me and my wife ordered the griz, and holly cow talk about a lot of food. There was so much and it came nice and hot. We could not eat it all. They give lots of food for the money. This place was just clean all the way to the bathrooms. It is a top notch restaurant for sure. Will be back again. This would have been a glowing, 5-star review, but a couple of workers tainted the experience during our family's visit. The good: Food was excellent, large portions that were quite good. The speed of service was fast and our waiter was very friendly. Not a lot of healthy options on the menu (just a heads-up for the health-conscious eaters out there), but I would recommend the cinnamon roll French toast. The bad: Though our server was great, another employee loudly complained (with some expletives) about how much she hates the holidays and working for people on a holiday that "I shouldn't even have to pretend exists." As our family was paying up front, another employee walked up front and angerly exclaimed behind the desk that a customer had walked out and that it was so-and-so's second table of the day to do that. Now, I get that stress around the holidays can be high and that the second employee had every reason to be frustrated, but managers need to teach employees that these comments can't be made in front of customers, they need to be made "backstage" where only other employees and managers will hear them so they don't disrupt the customer experience. read more
