Just went to Ocean Prime for our 10th year wedding anniversary. We were going to another restaurant but decided to come here the last minute. We were so happy we switched. I had the twin lobster tail, my husband had the grouper, and they were both superb. We also had the famous berries and bubbles cocktail, which was so much fun to drink. They put on a special happy anniversary sign for our desserts, which was a great surprise. Besides the food and the atmosphere, the service was impeccable as well. Our server Joanna was outstanding and was probably was one of the best servers we've encountered for a long while. She's friendly, professional, and patiently answered all of our questions. Even the waiters responsible for pouring water and taking away dishes were wonderful. All in all, we had a wonderful time celebrating our anniversary there, and we'll definitely go back! read more

Just got back from a delicious dinner at Ocean Prime in DC. It was Restaurant Week so we ordered from the special menu as well as some extras from the regular menu. Our waiter, Brian, was awesome -- he was very helpful with suggestions and descriptions of the food. While everything I had was good, special mention must be made of their delicious pretzel rolls and the filet mignon, which was one of the tenderest cuts of beef I have ever had. (the steak knife was a joke: a butter knife would've been more appropriate -- it was that good). I'll definitely return here soon. read more

The steaks are absolutely cooked to perfection. I had the 8 oz filet mignon cooked medium rare and it came out perfectly juicy and delicious. I also recommend the french onion soup which was a hefty portion and really tasty! Usually I find French onion soups too salty but not here- it was great! Also make sure to get the berries and bubbles cocktail if you want a unique cocktail that you can brag to your friends about later!!! In addition, the service was great! Our waiter, Dwayne, was very attentive and came to the table at the right time and not too often. The food came out in good time intervals, giving us time to enjoy each course without rushing and to enjoy some chit chat before the next course! The ambiance was great for date night - classy atmosphere but young decor and the music playlist had some oldies but goodies. Also, this place is across the street from the White House which makes for a great post-dinner walk/date! read more

I had my birthday dinner here this last Thursday evening. I hosted 10 guests for dinner in the Chevy Chase Room. The private rooms are amazing. It made the dinner feel very jazzy. The room decor is amazing for photos but the lighting is very dim, so make sure you turn your flashes on. The servers were amazing with handling all the orders. I really enjoyed the pretzel bread. It was the perfect amount of salt and softness... lol I ordered the Berries & Bubbles drinks.... I'm a fan of the dry ice drinks lol.... I ordered the 8oz filet medium... with the shrimp add on.... creamed spinach, Mac & Cheese & Lobster Mash... IT WAS ALL AMAZING! They gifted me the blueberry cheesecake that I took to go.... It was an amazing light night snack. I couldn't eat all my food or cheesecake in one sitting. The sides are family portions as with most of the higher end restaurants. Everything was delicious. My sister wasn't able to attend and wants to treat me to dinner again. Maybe I'll host another party of 10. read more

I have never written a yelp review - but thought I would warn others from wasting their $ at this wanna be "high end" restaurant. Service was fine, ambiance was fine, but the food quality was LESS than fine, especially at the price point. Bread was good and hot too, but was that real butter - I think not. Steak with truffle butter was over $46 - it was so salty and the cut of beef was mediocre at best. A $46 steak should be thick and beautiful...this was not. Tuna tartar was tasty - although the crunchy items inside the layers of tuna and avocado tasted like crushed potato chips and felt reminiscent of BLT ... but the "dollop" of sour cream or crème fraiche (couldn't tell which it was) was more like 2 tablespoons and overwhelmed the presentation. Also, WHY does this restaurant need "security" and a bouncer? He said it was because of their proximity to Park and other nightclubs? WHAT?! Sorry Ocean Prime...NEVER AGAIN.... read more

This is a new restaurant to the DC and I loved it! The atmosphere was full of vibrant people socializing with each other over amazing drinks. I'd recommend the crab cake and the popcorn was sooooo good! We had the best service and our food came out very quick! read more

What a great place for date night! We were right next to the bar and the live music was entertaining, but not overpowering. Our waiter Will gave us a great run down of the menu with an extra special stop to address my selfish allergy concerns. My wife and I went with steak and we were not disappointed! It was cooked to perfection. The French Onion soup has a great wine sauce base. The jalapeño potatoes have a good kick. Patrick, the wine steward, asked all the right questions to get us a bottle of red that complemented our meal but was a little out of my comfort zone. Overall, the team did a great job of making us comfortable and providing the information needed for us to pick a great meal. Thanks for a great evening! read more

Underwhelming. It started when I called to push my reservation back by an hour...the young lady on the phone was not courteous and informed me they couldn't go any further than an hour. Which was irrelevant since I only asked for an hour. But she moved it, so I guess I should be happy? Upon arrival there were 4 people standing behind the desk, but yet the greeting was less than warm and welcoming. It was almost like we showed up at their house unannounced so they forced a hello and welcome. There was a gentleman offering to take some peoples coats, but not everyone's. Not sure what the rationale was but they didn't ask to take our coat. After being seated we noticed our silverware was visibly filthy. Not sure how that was missed when setting the table. Later when resetting the table prior to our entrees coming out, they didn't take away our used butter knives when bringing our steak knives which seemed odd. The waitress took our order without writing anything down, which is fine, except she had to come back because she forgot our side. Maybe she should've written it down? Throughout the meal busboys came to the table 3-4 times to deliver food that we didn't order and that was meant for another table. One time, okay, but several times throughout the course of the night?! The servers reached across our plates without saying excuse me. Items were placed in front of us with no regard for presentation in relation to other items on the table. I shouldn't be shifting things around more than you because you're leaving items on the corner. I also had to ask twice for items to be removed from the table that we were done with instead of the servers picking up on this. I dropped my napkin at one point and a server watched me drop it and strain to pick it up without offering to help me or provide a new one. Food wise, the waitress miscommunicated the base for the lobster bisque which my boyfriend wasn't too happy about since he likes it solely one way. Our bone-in filets were tasty, but different than we've ever seen. They were a lot flatter and skinnier than we were used to which was upsetting. Almost looked like a strip. The asparagus was so salty we couldn't eat it. The butter cake was good. In summary, go elsewhere. At this price range there are so many better options in the city for good steak or seafood. Don't settle for a lackluster and underwhelming experience. I've been here a few times and had good service at the bar. I'll never return for a sit down meal again. read more

Best service I've had in DC, amazing food particularly the oysters which were the best I've ever tasted and the baked Alaska dessert - delicious. We had a large group in from outside the U.S. and they were 100% impressed by the service and attention that we received. read more

Ocean Prime - Seafood Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

The hostess Ashley and our waiter Dymond were phanominal. They went far and above to accommodate our party!

Ambience is fantastic. More effort should be put into steak preparation. Sides were above average. Did like the wine list.

When we walked in we asked to be seated at the bar area. As we approached the table we were then told the table was reserved. The waitress went to check on the availability of the table and then came back and told us that the table was indeed available. When we asked for the lounge menu the server only wanted to provide us with the dining room full menu at full price. They later explained that it was raining and many people had stayed in the restaurant longer than usual and they were unable to turn over their tables, therefore they wanted us to order off the dining room menu because it was a higher price point. After we asked to use the lounge menu no one wanted to wait on us and everyone one seemed pretty overwhelmed and sad to be at work. The service was not great at all. Will not be going back. Please stop hiding the cheaper menu! read more

Dined at this restaurant, in the former Ceiba location near Metro Center station, several times prior to its grand opening (which isn't until Oct 6, 2016), sampling much of the menu and providing feedback to the restaurant itself. I usually don't take the time to write reviews but don't mind doing so when it's a new establishment and it's deserving of attention. In general, the food at Ocean Prime is high quality, carefully prepared and artfully presented, but I think even more compelling for a visit is the ambiance and service. Prior to the grand opening, the company sent service managers from its other locations around the country to work at this new DC location for a couple weeks. That tells you something about how serious the management team is in delivering a top-notch dining experience. Ocean Prime excels at appetizers such as its steak tartare, goat cheese ravioli, and prime roll. Its cocktails, such as the Berries & Bubbles with dry ice and Crimson Rye, are inventive and represent true craftsmanship in mixology. The seafood, such as oysters, chilled lobster, king crab legs, grouper, and blackened snapper (yes, I had all of those there), is as fresh and well-prepared as nearby Old Ebbitt's. And its rare NY or Kansas City strip steaks, prepared Oscar or with blue chese crust, rival aged cuts in nearby Mastro's or Del Frisco's. Accompanied with roasted brussel sprouts, chophouse corn, or black truffle mac and cheese, you won't have room for dessert, though you'll want to make room for the creme brulee, blueberry lemon cheesecake, or 10-layer carrot cake. The restaurant is still working on perfecting its menu, so a few areas for improvement, some of which I've already shared with the restaurant and which I'm sure they'll address: - Sushi appetizers could use more fish and less rice and vegetables. Rolls larger in diameter might also be nice. So while the prime roll is excellent, the tuna roll, lobster roll, and hamachi crudo could all use a makeover. - The crab cake appetizer was solid but not a standout; more seasoning, a thicker cake with larger lumps, and seared crispness would really help. - Oysters might benefit from being accompanied with a mignonette sauce instead of just the horseradish cocktail sauce. - More attention needs to be paid to ensuring steaks are not overcooked beyond their requested temperature. - While the seafood is excellent, it's going to be difficult to compete with similarly fresh seafood at nearby Old Ebbitt's, which is 50% off for their evening and late night happy hours. - The Jalapeno Au Gratin could use more jalapeno, the asparagus side dish could use the larger asparagus instead of the smaller version, and the black truffle mac and cheese could be infused with more truffle flavor, perhaps in using more truffle salt or truffle oil. Overall, go here for a treat to yourself while relaxing with friends or colleagues in a sophisticated ambiance. The attentive service makes it appropriate for a special occasion, whether professional or romantic, and they seem like would get to know regulars on a first name basis. This will certainly be the place to go for high-end, reasonably-priced cocktails ($10) and small plates ($10) during happy hour. Worth a visit. read more

If I want Ocean Prime, I will wait until I go to Miami. I will never eat here again. I rented a private room here. All of my guest weren't able to make it because some of them were stuck in Miami. The managers and event coordinator had no consideration and still charged me the total amount. They literally forced me to spend $2k. They told me I had to purchase $900 worth of alcohol (and I don't even drink) or lose it. WOW....never again. read more

I don't usually post reviews because my taste may be different from others; however, I find I have to make an exception for Ocean Prime. We arrived early for our 5:30 reservation in order to have a cocktail at the bar. Alejandro prepared a Sazerac (barrel aged) that rivaled the Sazerac Bar in New Orleans. The restaurant uses Hudson Bay Baby Bourbon. Dinner was a true dining experience. Chambalee (our server) knew the menu and steered us adroitly. She alerted me to a special sushi that was not on the menu and was a cornucopia of flavor. Of course, they are known for their fish. The Sea Bass and blackened grouper did not disappoint. As an extra treat, Alejandro sent his special margarita to our table for us to enjoy. This restaurant belongs in Tom Sietsma's (food critic for the Washington Post) list of top DC places to enjoy. When we left at 7:30, the restaurant was full-corroboration of the great job they do. Tell Diamond, the manager, that you want Chamblee to be your server and have a drink with Alejandro at the bar. You will leave fully satiated. read more

Our daughter booked a reservation at this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. We could not have been more pleased. The staff welcomed us warmly and our waiter, Emmanuel, was impeccable in his attention to our needs during the dinner. The food was simply incredible. My lovely wife thoroughly enjoyed the lobster tails and especially the bubbly berry. I enjoyed a perfectly prepared and presented Chilean sea bass. This might very well become an annual destination for our anniversary. read more

One of the best dining experiences I've had in DC in all my years living here. I went to Ocean Prime for a birthday dinner. I was referred & it was everything that I was told. The atmosphere was nice & classy. The service was A1 and everyone was so nice. Our waiter was the best; he made sure to explain everything, continued to check on us & made sure my friends birthday was extra special. The food was amazing; We had the crab cakes & the filet Mignon. The only thing I didn't care for was the corn sauce under the crab cakes once & of course my waiter made sure the kitchen took care of that. I was a happy camper at Ocean Prime. This is a must for a nice night out. It can be on the pricy side so be prepared. But it is worth the money; the food, service & atmosphere is class A. read more

place is not worth the hype and is overpriced. ordered the king salmon and was disappointed. it was a piece of salmon in a bowl of tomato soup. a great piece of fish shouldn't need to be completely smothered in sauce and broth. the calamari was more breading than meat. the cream spinach was way too cheesy. the bill was about 1000 dollars for 7 people and we didn't get desert. read more

Ocean Prime seemed a bit overrated! I definitely expected more considering the price of food and ambiance. The highlight of my experience there was sitting at the bar and they served popcorn as bar snack. I love popcorn! My French martini was good. Service was okay at first Reggie being our server. Service seemed rushed. I ordered French martini at the table tasted different then the one I ordered at the bar. Caesar salad was okay I ordered pan sea scallops I wasn't impressed they were okay. The main issue was we had a party of 8 we were told over the phone that it was possible for separate checks and gratuity. After dinner we were told we have to do one bill. We asked to speak to manager Tim who wasn't friendly just plain rude he didn't apologize and in so many words said we knew what we order and how much it cost so pretty much do it ourselves. Our server Reggie offered no help so we had by ourselves to split 8 checks with items we had plus tax and gratuity which was time consuming and also Reggie job. Reggie got $152 of gratuity that he didn't fully deserve. I will never eat at Ocean Prime ever again. Not worth the money!! read more

Honestly something I've never seen and I've worked in the restaurant industry. I also never post but I'm so amazed. We were told 15 minutes and waited about an hour. I asked whether we would be seated and with no apology she said let me check. I pushed and she said oh we can seat you now. We were walked past the table because it was dirty and taken to another table. We sat down hoping we would finally get to order and relax and guess what the menu was missing the food menu page. We decided to leave. Never going back. read more

Very nice decor and layout in this restaurant. The food is very good, but the main entree seafood menu for lunch is limited. Everything was excellent. read more

The service was lacking and the food was not that great. I ordered Chilean sea bass, but received cod or some other type of fish. The servers were very slow and inattentive. The salads were not delicious at the same time ...they were 10-15 mins apart. It took over 15!mins to get our check after requesting it. Although I was very disappointed with the Ocean Prime DC location, the berries and bubbles drink was still good. I do not recommend this restaurant...maybe they are too new or the staff inexperienced or short of staff that night. read more

Love Ocean Prime, but just a little history about the building it is in. Always wondered why this building called Colorado building, built by James Walsh, Irish immigrant came over late 1800's to seek his fortune in CO gold rush. Quite a story, hit 2nd biggest gold mine in CO history, overnight one of richest men in US and celebrity. Moved to DC with daughter Evelyn and builds most expensive home at the time on DuPont Circle. Builds CO building around 1905 and becomes lobbyist. His daughter went from living in rough mining camp situation to one of the biggest socialites in America. She love diamonds, buys from Pierre Cartier himself and purchases the most famous diamond of all, the Hope diamond. The legend of the diamond being cursed was somewhat true for her, she lost both children young and her husband( I believe his name was John of the wealthy McLean family) died in an insane asylum. Very sad, but she did great charity work as well, and after her death, Harry Winston purchased the Hope and donated to Smithsonian a few years later. I used to entertain large groups at the previous restaurant, loved telling that story about how Evelyn Walsh entertained in the building, always wore the Hope diamond. Now it sits not too far away in the Smithsonian. Still the most desired thing to see by tourists when they are asked what they want to see at museum. read more

Went for a work lunch for my 15 year anniversary. Ordered Jumbo Lump crab cake at $19 and house salad. Salad was fine but the crab cake was an embarrassment. Backfin meat, not a lump of crab to be found. Overcooked on the side they put in sauce, to hide the overbrowned part I suppose. As it was a work lunch I did not want to make a fuss but if it had been on my dime I would have sent that crabcake back in a heart beat. You want a true lump crab cake go to Joes Seafood on 15th street. $5 dollars cheaper and with real lumps. To be fair the chocolate peanut butter pie was really good. The service was good too, except not bringing me a pretzel roll after being told twice it was on the way to have with my salad. Won't be back, too many other good places in the area. read more

If I was able to rate this with no stars that would have been a plus!! But where do I start....I made a reservation at this restaurant for New Year's Eve for me and my husband to enjoy dinner and bring in the new year. We had a reservation for 10:45pm. The day of I received a call confirming reservation time and to inform me that they provide a 15min grace period after that they seat the next guest. At 1045pm my husband drops me off at the front door of the restaurant only to be told that the restaurant wasn't accepting any guest doors are closing. That night I went to one of my favorite spots Old Edditt and brought in the new year. On my birthday 1/27 my husband had reservations, arrived on time and was seated on time. My waiter was excellent her service was impeccable. My husband crab cakes were okay Mac and cheese lobster so so, my filet minion was not cooked to my liking and it had no flavor at All!! I remember paying an extra $5-10 bucks for sauce to flavor the meat which was a waste of money. My dessert recommended by my waiter was like the best they had to offer there. I can honestly say IF I return I will try the bar and have drinks and maybe that Reese's kinda dessert I had on my birthday. read more

I have visited this restaurant four times and always sat at the bar. Had lunch there 6/23/2017. I continue to be underwhelmed. The bar service staff move like a glacier. It was my boyfriends birthday and i made special note in the reservation of this. it started off okay. We ordered 3 appetizers, the calamari, the prime roll and lobster roll. all of these were really good, my favorite was the calamari. But now it starts to go down hill...we were about to eat the last of the prime roll but there was a long hair on it. We tracked down our waiter and he took it away. Then 35min later, our main dishes came out. Someone, not our waiter, placed the dishes in front of us and walked away. I went to reposition the plate and the plate WAS SCOLDING HOT! No one had said anything to me!! Typically a patron is warned when the plate is hot! I started crying and had to go to the bathroom to run cold water over my fingers, it was that hot and hurt that bad! I finally returned to tried my crab cakes, and to be honest i was disappointed. First, it was so hot that i could taste anything. When it cooled, i realized i couldn't taste much because there was no flavor. I've had better crab cakes from the Harris Teeter grocery store, so that was pretty pathetic - $39 for bland crab cakes. i said something to our waiter about the plate temp and he said " Oh sorry, i'm glad ur feeling better". So by this time it's already been 1.5 hrs since we first sat down..service was slow! we had to rush to make it to a show i just gave the guy my credit card. I later realized that they did credit us for the sushi that had hair in it. But i realized that nothing was said about the birthday..i would have expected maybe a complimentary glass of champagne or maybe a little dessert, but nothing. So all in all, this was is way too hyped and i was very disappointed. I will not be recommending this to family or friends and i will not be returning in the future. read more
