One of my best meals in memory! We went to the pre-opening where they are still technically in training mode, but you'd hardly have known it except perhaps for the preponderance of managers everywhere. If they had service kinks to work out, I didn't see them! We started at the bar, where our bartender was friendly and efficient. She made a great Old Fashioned and Cosmo. The drinks were not cheap, but they were well made, right down to the chilled martini glass for my Cosmo. The live music for the pre-opening was a nice touch in the bar area. On to dinner at a nice table in a side section of the restaurant, that allowed for a bit quieter atmosphere. Knowing we planned to dine on some big steaks, we thought we would just start with a Caesar salad, but our waiter steered toward some more interesting starters. We're really glad he did. I had the Sonoma Goat Cheese Ravioli and was in heaven! A delicate, delicious sauce. My husband had the Tuna tartar and loved it as well. I'm not big on seafood, but I did taste his Ahi tuna over Avacado and sesame ginger. It was excellent. We split a Caesar salad as well. It was a little different than your average Caesar, and I really liked the twist. I thought it was delicious. Maybe it was the garlic in the dressing? Hard to put my finger on it. Then came the filets. Mine with bearnaise, his was blue cheese crusted. Both were amazing! The bearnaise was thick and freshly made, with a delicious flavor. The steaks hardly needed any help, but the accompaniment was welcome. For sides we tried the creamed spinach and Jalopeno au gratin potatoes. As with everything we tried, the sides had their own twist on some very traditional things, and tasted all the better for it. Somehow, the spinach in the creamed spinach still had a bit of crunch to it, making it all the more satisfying and delicious. The Jalapeno flavor of the potatoes was not at all overwhelming. Just a bit of a kick to make them interesting and all the more tasty! Sure, we were full by this time, but with so many good things passing before us, we had to sample dessert! We went for the chocolate cake and were not disappointed! Just delicious! Creamy, not overly sweet, and obviously fresh. I can't think of anything to fault them on. The wait staff were all amazing, the food was divine. I liked the decor of the dining rooms, especially the coral in the window between the rooms. This is one of the best meals I have ever enjoyed. I hope they can keep up the food and service quality levels. But given that this group has successful restaurants all over the country, I think that is an easy bet. read more

The food was delicious and fresh. Dell was a awesome waiter so much so that we ordered his suggestions. The shellfish Cobb salad had so many ingredients that were well paired and it was so big that I didn't eat my entree. The teriyaki salmon was cooked perfectly at medium rare and the creamed spinach was hot cheesy goodness. The dynamite sushi roll appetizer is large enough for a meal and totally worth the money! We went to celebrate our anniversary and I'm so glad we did it here. read more

Don't do it! Went here for a birthday dinner and it was horrendous. Ordered the black orchid drink, the server told us after she flopped it onto the table that they were out of the orchids, when we asked to send back the server rolled her eyes as if we had made the mistake. The drink she brought was also half full, seems like the server may have spilled it out on our way to the table. She claimed that she was out of the orchid ice balls and said, "oh so you have had it before" as if she was trying to get one over us. We ordered appetizers and main entrees and literally two minutes after our cold pasta appetizers (it is supposed to be a warm dish) were brought out, they sent our main entrees. We asked that they wait a few minutes to bring them out so that we could attempt to finish the cold goat cheese ravioli... After the main course was brought out the server attempted to clear our plates while we were still eating (mid bite). It was the most ridiculous service. They also forgot pieces of the order and incorrectly prepared two of the dishes. They ruined the birthday dinner, they didn't even wish the birthday girl happy birthday and pretty much ruined everybody's dishes. This is the second time We have been to this location and had appalling service. The server never apologized and constantly made errors. Don't waste your time and money here, you will be disappointed. read more

We went here for our Valentines Dinner a day early and I was excited because I heard great things about the place. I was able to make a reservation at the last minute and was seated promptly upon arrival. I was impressed with the ambiance if the place. The decor was great and perfect for a date night. We started with drinks. I offered a Moscow Mule which was okay and a Rum Punch that I really enjoyed. We then ordered dinner, crsb cakes and the lamb with sides of corn and the jalepeno au gratin. The crab cakes were really good and so was the corn; however the lamb was sub par for the price and the potatoes were somewhat salty. The food and drinks alone would have been 4 stars; however the service brings this place down. Upon delivery of the food I ordered another drink. Our waiter never came back to check on us or offer an update and my drink was not delivered until after I was done eating. There was mo apology or explanation such isn't suprising since o u r server was not very engaging. I definitely expected more. read more

The food was excellent. Server was very nice and professional. The kitchen did seem pretty slow bringing our food out, but the flavor was spot on. To be fair it was also Mother's Day, so it may have been busy. We also were not offered the prix-fixe menu they had, but we made due. I had the swordfish which was very flavorful and didn't make it long enough to be photographed. read more

AMAZING. Seriously cannot say enough good things about this place. Even during covid they were on top of the service and the food was delicious. I don't even know what to recommend because everything was better than the last. But those sushi rolls.. YUM! Will definitely be back. Found our new "nice" date night spot. read more

Excellent all around. Everything we had was cooked to perfection and we had amazing helpful service. To start my meal off I ordered the French onion soup and my family split a roll of the sushi. The French onion soup was rich and delicious and the cheese was to die for. The sushi melted in your mouth, hands down the best sushi I ever eaten. (I would go back just for the sushi anytime) I had the filet mignon cooked medium rare and it was perfect, well seasoned, and incredibly tender. My family also order the scallops and the lobster tails and once again they were cooked to perfection. For dessert we had the New York cherry cheesecake and the crème brûlée. The cheesecake was to die for so soft and creamy, and the crème brûlée was the perfect balance of sweet. The meal was quite pricy but easily worth every penny. read more

One of the best meals I've had in years. Everything from the pretzel rolls and sour dough - served fresh, warm, and with butter - to the killer dessert (five-layer carrot cake) was FANTASTIC. Friends and I recently stopped into Ocean Prime during DC Restaurant Week. Needless to say, we WILL be going back. The food was exceptional - full of flavor, generous portions - and the service (we were waited on by Brian) was noteworthy. He was professional yet personable. The steak - filet mignon - was flavor-filled, fork tender, and juicy. The lobster bisque was among the best I've ever had - it may have even eclipsed the gold standard at Capital Grille. It was savory, silky-smooth, and filled with lobster. We can't wait to go back for more! read more

Great food and ambience. WORST bread pudding I've ever had. Clearly, desserts are not a focus.

The food is always great but what makes it so special is the manager Scott, servers like Kyle, bartenders like Dimoni and the hostesses that all remember you and make you feel like DC is a small town happy to have you... in an upscale badass way, of course :) read more

I love the berries and bubbles drink, it boils for about 15 minutes so it's super cute and tastes delicious. The sushi is great, as is the steak. Very good service and friendly staff. read more

New Year's Eve celebration Great food great service only one complain before we were leaving I asked the hostesses if one of them could take a picture of us but the lady with the very short hair gave me the meanest look and looked away, so I felt really awkward for asking until one of the other hostesses with grey or silver dress jumped up to take the picture. I just wish didn't have that attitude. read more

Maybe it was my mistake for ordering a steak at a seafood restaurant, but the steak wasn't seasoned very well. Don't get me wrong with my three stars; the ambiance is amazing, the calamari we had was amazing. However, if you're looking for a great steak; try another location. If the steak had been flavored better this would've easily been a five star review. Great appetizers, great sides. Awesome service and drinks. Just a poorly seasoned steak. read more

We had A reservation and got a very bad table near the entrance where it was cold and windy from all the people coming in. We were very astonished about the different server we had the whole evening. There were several people bringing the bread, appetizer, food and collecting the dishes afterwards. Some of them were bending over the table and food which is not very professional. The steak of my husband arrived well done instead of medium and till we got a replacement I had almost finished my steak. We didnt hear a sorry about this nor a compensation. The atmosphere was quite loud including music from above which was unpleasant. Sorry but I would never go back to this place again, nor for the food or service read more

I've been patronizing Ocean Prime for over 6 years, I normally sit at the Bar, with Rebecca who is amazing and knows the menu. since Covid I have developed severe anxiety , I refuse to take prescribed medication so I partake in medical marijuana and meditation , which is completely legal. the security guard yelled at us in the front lobby stating that we smelled like weed and that is agaist the restaurant policy. we quickly exited the establishment. while walking to my car i called and spoke with manager Tim, I explained nicely that I apologize and never wanted to disrespect the establishment however the security was loud and had embarrassed us and he could have asked us to step away first, Tim replied that the doorman was soft spoken and he can't see him yelling or raising his voice at all. I'm not upset at the rule which is why I left but the way they treated us was crazy for a very legal substance. if I'd smoke a ciigar or cigarette would they put me out then. Basically removing me because of my handicap! Shame on Ocean Prime and Tim! I will never ever go back ! read more

I normally love this place, but on a recent visit during restaurant week I was not impressed. Maybe it's because it was a discounted meal, but the teriyaki salmon & rice was not of Ocean Prime quality. The rice was regular white rice poorly prepared & I'm not sure if the salmon was different, but I know that mushy rice did not compliment it well. If you cannot offer Ocean Prime quality dishes at the discounted rates, do not participate in Restaurant Week. Your reputation is much more valuable that the savings from cheap rice!! Looking forward to my next visit & bring Wowed like my very first time!! read more

Came during restaurant week (summer '18) had the Caesar, 8 oz filet and 5 layer carrot cake. Decor is beautiful and the service was really great from the hostess to our waiter which we would expect for a restaurant at the steakhouse price point. The food was all just ok. My salad was severely overdressed and the dessert was very dense. The steak was cooked perfectly but not an impactful flavor so seasoning could be improved. Overall good experience but likely wouldn't come back, especially at normal pricing. read more

This restaurant reminds me of some of the Michelin rated restaurants in London. The food, service, and ambiance was superb. Not only was the seafood excellent but so was the desert. Come hungry because the servings are generous. read more

We reserved a table at Ocean Prime when we wanted to go out for dinner after a Thursday evening event at the Willard (and our usual favorite - Old Ebbitt Grill - was booked solid). Food was outstanding (I had ahi tuna and my husband ordered grouper). Wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable but not intrusive. And the restaurant seemed interested in earning our repeat business. They definitely succeeded! read more

We celebrated our 3 year wedding anniversary here and had the best time! The food was amazing and unlike any other steakhouse. The service was impeccable and couldn't have asked for a better celebration with my husband. I got the lamb chops, medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. My favorite sides were the black truffle mac n cheese and fried calamari. The server's recommendations were on point and as a result we were able to order the best items on the menu on our first visit. read more

Omg!!!!! Decided to come here for my birthday and this was by far the best birthday dinner yet. The interior decorating is perfect! This restaurant blew Ruth Chris far out of the way. The lighting is so secluded and intimate. The food is delicious and better than those chain restaurants like Ruth Chris and Morton's. The waiter was patient and didn't rush us at all, even when it was close to closing. The drinks were amazing and you could taste the freshness of the seafood. Everything was flavored and seasoned well. I will be going again!!! read more

Amazing!!! Great service!!! Waiter was sensational (future voice). Will definitely be back

I will forgive the long serving time and chalk it up to being mothers day. The food was hit and miss. The truffle popcorn was a pleasant surprise starter. The scallops and tuna main dishes were just okay. The recommended doneness for these dishes was more than I'm used to. And it may have been silly to order steak at a seafood restaurant but our party ordered a filet medium rare. It came out well done. Sent back and although returned quickly, was still well done (seriously, not the slightest hint of pink). By then it was too late for anything else so she filled up on the side dishes. They very nicely removed the steak from the bill and comp'd the desserts (coconut cake and 10 layer carrot cake - both really good). But still a bit of a bummer for a holiday meal. And I was wondering why our mothers didn't get the white roses they were handing out to other parties. read more

Likes Service Dislikes Food - ordered the jumbo crab cakes they were small, the sauce added was horrible with a bad after taste. Everything was great! It did take a while for the waitress to come back and take our order after she asked if we had any questions. They were very busy for a Wednesday! I ordered the 6oz Filet and it was perfectly cooked. I also ordered a side of the whipped mashed potatoes, they were super creamy and amazing. My boyfriend ordered the sea scallops with risotto. It only came with 4 scallops yet they were perfectly seared. To top off our dinner we ordered the 10 layer carrot cake. It was great. Definitely recommend if you're looking to have a special dinner! Very disappointing experience. I first visited this place in Orlando on my birthday... everything about that experience was divine. So naturally we had to come by to the DC location, given its proximith to home My experience this time, however, was ridiculously disappointing. First the hostess couldn't find our reservation which was strange given that they called us last night to confirm our dinner time and occasion. Our server seemed like she was bored out of her mind and did not want to serve us at all. She was terrible with suggestions, could not answer any questions... She knew it was my birthday and she did not care to make it special. Meanwhile we had servers all around us making it special for their guests. Complementary desserts, servers singing... I got none of that... The server did wish me happy birthday 3 times though. Finally, we asked to take home one of our sides. She took it in and never brought it back out and did not even apologize for it. Terrible experience given that we spent a large sum On a birthday dinner for 2 people. We will NOT be back and we will make sure we tell our friends to go elsewhere. There are many other steakhouses in DC that actually care for their guests - Joe's being one of them read more

For the price we paid, I loved this place for their food and wait person, also the atmosphere. We ordered calamari for appetizer and creme bruree for desert to share and main dish for each without sides. They were big enough portions that we were full and we needed a to go package for the calamari. Waiter was attentive and knowledgeable and fun to talk to. The reason I am giving one less star is the person who picked up the phone when I was making reservation did not sound pleasant enough to be the first person to greet over the phone. It made me wonder if I ever should go until I had the wait person to lighten up my doubt. read more

Ocean Prime - Seafood Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

My family has visited Ocean Prime in Dallas, Texas and in DC several times. We had the unfortunate experience to visit this restaurant on Friday during restaurant week. Where shall I begin, firstly we had to wait over 20 minutes for our reserved seating time. We were only seated after I spoke to them a total of 3 times letting them know that my Mother, who has a cane, was standing the entire time (they gave us seating in the bar area, where there are high seats). Secondly, the service, which normally is excellent was far below the standard that we've received in the past. The server was inattentive. One guest ordered lamb, we were told, oh we are out of lamb. I said well that's the first thing that you should start with, letting us know what is not available and any specials, mind you it was only 7:50pm (out of lamb already????). He took our drink order, came back with the drinks, and then we placed our entire order. I had to ASK if bread was coming, the bread arrived AFTER our side dish (at this point we've been in the restaurant at total of about 40 minutes). OH, I forgot, instead of having my Mom sit in the booth, we were asked if we wanted a chair placed at the table, we said yes. The chair was placed, WITHOUT ANY SERVING UTENTILS ON THE TABLE. I moved the entire serving utentils, plates, etc. all the while our SERVER noticed and didn't come over nor did he attempt to assist. After receiving our food, the server never came back to ask if we wanted additional drinks. I had to make eye contact with him to get him to come over, we sat after finishing dinner, again I HAD to make eye contact and then I ASKED for the dessert menus. Just terrible service all around. I will NEVER return during restaurant week and am contemplating never returning period, unless we are in Dallas. I talked to the manager Alex, because I noticed this is most likely the reason why the restaurant was not turning table around quickly. We had a 730pm reservation, didn't get seated until 7:50pm and didn't leave the restaurant until almost 10pm!!!! Ridiculous! read more

The food here is great, however the service was horrendous. When ordering our food I asked for a split bill to separate alcohol and the food for business reimbursement reasons. I was told that it was against company policy to split bills. After some discussion the server reluctantly agreed to make an exception. She told us that if we visit again to make sure we understand that they don't split bills. Trust me, there is no worry about me repeating the mistake of eating here again. We had a great entrée, but when the server came back with the desert menus I asked where the restrooms were. She huffed and said I could go ask the hostess and she'd direct me to the restrooms. Simply unbelievable. We had server 167 Jax. There are plenty of places in the area with great food, and great service. If you want both, avoid this place. read more
