We decided to try out Ocean Prime during restaurant week to celebrate a colleagues birthday. We were seated in a private dining room for our party of 6 which was a nice touch. The room had a television and we were able to select our choice of music. Diamond was our server and he was very knowledgeable about the menu and the service from everyone involved was fantastic. I decided to try the Berries and Bubbles cocktail which gives a show due to the dry ice which was neat. I selected the French onion soup, petite filet, and carrot cake from the restaurant week menu. I also added a lobster roll separately. For our table, we added the jalapeño au gratin and roasted Brussels sprouts to share. The Brussels sprouts were divine - I could eat a whole bowl of them and in hindsight should have inquired as to what they put on them. My steak was cooked perfectly at medium rare as requested and was served with whipped potatoes, haricot verts, and a cabernet jus. read more

This place is by far one of the best fine dining establishments I've visited. From appetizers to main course. They even gave me 7 layer carrot cake on the house because of my bday. Will visit again when I'm in the area read more

We were able to get a last minute reservation before seeing a show at the Warner Theater, which was awesome! They were so nice and accommodating when we arrived early and we got a nice table right away. Ocean Prime is decorated BEAUTIFULLY!!! The ambiance is really very stunning... I mean they've really gone all out. If you're looking to enjoy a special occasion or nice date in a gorgeous place, you've found the place. We go to a lot of pretty places pretty often though, so we're typically on the hunt for great food and service to make our dining experiences enjoyable. This is where Ocean Prime falls short. There was nothing outstanding or remarkable about a single dish or cocktail we ordered and service from Joanna was just ok, and at times pretty slow. The breakdown: The calamari appetizer was DRENCHED in a Thai chili glaze with waaaay too much batter and fillers and also pretty chewy/overcooked. It also wasn't very hot. The lobster bisque was served lukewarm and took quite a while to be served. There was little to no lobster in the bisque and it didn't taste freshly made. There was a hush puppy / corn fritter in it that was not hot, nor did it taste freshly made which could also be said about the complimentary bread but hey, that was complimentary. We also had half a dozen oysters. Half were from the east coast and the other half that were from the west coast were literally nickel sized. This should have been advised to us in advance, as they took over 20 minutes to be served and were the smallest oysters we've ever been served. For dinner, I had the sea bass which was cooked perfectly, but the mashed potato accompaniment with it was almost cold and the truffle sauce was pretty blah. He had the lamb chops that were also cooked to a perfect medium, but had nothing remarkable or memorable to them. Both our entrees were good despite taking an excessive amount of time to arrive to our table, but there was no flare to justify their price point, most especially not with cold and bland mashed potatoes. Lastly, Joanna recommended we try their lobster Mac and cheese which should really just be called lobster Mac because there was NO cheese. It was also served lukewarm and the lobster was a little tough. Lobster Mac and cheese is supposed to be smack yo momma good from a place like this and theirs was barely touched by us. The highlight of our meal was the Brussel sprouts which is pretty disappointing in the grand scheme of an over $200 dining experience. They were served hot, thankfully and unlike the rest of our food. Cocktails weren't bad, but also nothing to write home about although the bubbles and berries martini presentation was pretty cool. 2 stars are warranted for Ocean Prime's great decor and ambiance. With extended wait times for lukewarm and mediocre food and service, Ocean Prime does not hold a candle to Mastro's and is definitely lacking any bang for your buck. I'd pass on this for a date night or special occasion, but I may check them out again for happy hour. read more

Back in DC for work. I was back in DC for some work on the Hill and was staying up the street from Ocean Prime. When I was last in DC we had a reception there and the drinks and food were delicious so I decided to try it out again for dinner. I walked in and asked if they could seat me at a table for one. I was warmly and immediately greeted and then seated. My server was professional and very attentive. I asked about a couple of items on the menu and he gave me his recommendation which I went with; teriyaki salmon. I am SO glad I went with this item! It was incredibly delicious, prepared perfectly. I enjoyed every bite. After eating my main course I asked if there was a fresh fruit option. My server told me that they would do that for me and they did. Overall, my meal was excellent and the service matched. I highly recommend visiting if you have the opportunity while in DC. The food was excellent and priced correctly. read more

Dinned at Ocean Prime last night. Great location, atmosphere and service. I ordered the 16 ounce ribeye steak cooked medium rare. Was looking forward to a nice medium rare steak cooked under a 1200 degree with the expectation that it would have some char/seat to it. Unfortunately, while the steak was cooked to the right temperature it lacked flavor and did not appear to be seasoned at all. I would not have known it was cooked at high temperature at all. I appreciate the effort in dinning experience, but given prices expected more from the food. read more

A long time business owner of FMS Mechanical Services had eaten dinner sitting at the bar as he usually does talking to the bartender. After he paid his bill he was followed out of the store by the manager and accosted by him and accused of not paying his bill. He never asked the bartender where Ben was sitting, he just assumed that he had not paid the bill. When Ben explained to him that he had paid the bill and he was a regular the manager looked at him and stated this always happens. Ben asked so all black males run out on their bill? Once verified the manager invited Ben back for a comp meal. Considering our current environment and after being humiliated Just the thought of how badly this could have ended would make anyone refrain from ever returning! read more

Having a long week, so decided to go to Ocean Prime (my favorite)--where the service, food, and ambiance are always great. I normally opt for seating in the dining area, but my guest and I chose the bar. The bartenders were attentive and quick, which is always appreciated. I always get the lamb entree, and tonight wasn't any different. I tried the garlic mashed potatoes for the first time, and I was beyond pleased. This place is also great for happy hour, and it's never too noisy or too crowded. Great for date night as well! read more

We tried their RW menu: the French onion soup was amazing but the Caesar salad was like your average grocery store salad. The steak was really good. The carrot cake was also really good but I didn't like the fact that it looked a bit messy on top (sorry I really care about how my food looks since I photograph it). The service was good but I also didn't like the fact that we had to wait around 25 minutes to be seated despite the fact that we had a reservation. read more

This is an enjoyable place to eat. The service was excellent, but the time between courses was a bit too long, especially the gap between salad and entree. The wedge salad was delicious. The blackened swordfish was very good. Cooked perfectly but the lemon caper sauce was a tad too salty. For dessert, I had the mango sorbet. It was good but not something to rave about. A superb list of wines by the glass--one of the best in the area. The restaurant space is elegant and roomy. Plenty of space between banquettes and tables. However, the men's restroom is tiny. It is really too small for a restaurant this size. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant, we are new to the area and this restaurant came highly recommended . Arrived at the location on time for a 4:15p reservation (a must) on Valentines Day. We were greeted with beautiful smiles and seated right away. I loved the ambiance, every one was dressed nicely and the table silverware and napkin were pristine. I began my lovely evening with a cocktail (Berries & Bubbles$. This was such a treat. The kind waiter poured the Martini on dried ice and my cocktail started to smoke with bubbles. Needless to say, I ordered 2. I had the King Crab Legs, lobster Mac & and cheese, and Brussels sprouts. The food arrived hot with a nice presentation. Let me tell you, it was delicious. Ocean Prime is pricey but worth it all. This restaurant made my Valentine's Day special and a night to remember. Definitely a must dine. read more

Large groups beware! The food is good but the servers will overcharge you for the alcohol in hopes that you get drunk enough that you do not notice the bill while they cash in on the tips. We hosted our corporate board meeting here last week. Planning the event was not as seamless and the customer service received during the planning was not as friendly as I would have liked. Nevertheless, we moved forward. The apps were great- particularly the calamari- very tasty. The crab cakes were meh. For entrees, each person had a choice between the filet mignon, roasted chicken and teriyaki salmon. The filet was succulent, moist and tender- very well prepared. It came with mashed potatoes and green beans. I did not try the salmon but I heard it was just ok. For dessert we had the lemon cheesecake and carrot cake. They were not very tasty at all. They were both very bland almost as if it was from a box. Most of us left our desserts sitting at the table after a few bites. Now for the interesting part. As I ordered the alcohol during the event, I made very specific selections with the server from the wine list. She made her suggestions but I chose what we wanted based on our budget. At the end of the night, I was surprised when I saw we were charged for 5 $350 bottles of wine- the wine she suggested. I was confused as to how she got the order incorrect. As I spoke with her about it she had an attitude and proceeded to get the manager. Fortunately the manager removed the items from our bill. I wish the experience could have been better as this restaurant is located right down the street from our office. It would be nice to have a new spot for all of our events. read more

We had a wonderful time celebrating my husband's birthday at Ocean Prime! We loved the ambiance and the excellent service! We started off with some delicious calamari which had an Asian flavor to it. Everything was perfectly cooked and tasty, I loved the shrimp! Because we were celebrating a birthday we received complimentary champagne and dessert. We got the warm butter cake, you MUST GET IT! Well all I can say is what could have been a decent experience kind of went sour due to order on both appetizer and meal coming out incorrect. So we had to wait. We had to involve manager cause the experience at the beginning was terrible. But the manager hesitantly corrected the orders and finish the experience on positive note. Food once it came did taste pretty good. But it could've been so much better. Just okay ‍ read more

Of course I've heard of Ocean Prime and when I heard it was coming to the Nation's Capital I knew I would visit but definitely was in no rush! Boy am I regretting waiting so long to try this place out. Let me first off state, Oceanaire will always hold a special place in my heart but Ocean Prime is so Winning right now . Atmosphere: Modern, Posh a little bit STK but refined. Service: Our Waiter Campbell and table service was superb!! Everyone worked together like a smooth oiled machine! Drinks: Handcrafted cocktails prepared by experienced bartenders using top notch spirits and fresh ingredients. The Berries & Bubbles cocktail is a showstopper of a drink. Drink consist of Belvedere Citrus Vodka, Marinated assorted Berries, homemade sour mix and topped with Domaine Chandon Brut bubbly. The Rum Punch is also a good drink. Food: Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes - Single appetizer ($19) or Dinner portion of Two(2) crab cakes for $39 . Lump Crab Wedge Salad - This is a must have!!! Loads of fresh lump crab meat and a delicious salad dressing. If you really want to kick it up another level then add Bacon to the salad! So Good! Blackened Red Snapper - I expected a little more spice and flavor on this dish but overall a great piece of snapper so fresh and flaky. The corn spoon bread was just okay and the snapper would of been better paired with mash potatoes and the vegetables were tender. Jalapeño Au Gratin - Delicious!!!! This must be at least of your side dish selections! The jalapeños are very subtle in flavor, not overpowering or spicy at all. read more

I enjoyed the food and the ambiance, but it really rubbed the the wrong way to get my bill and be charged $9 per water without any pre-warning. Let me start by saying I've been waiting to try Ocean Prime for months and finally was able to get around to it to celebrate my cousin's 40th. No one in our party had been so I figured it would be the perfect place. I was familiar with the location as I've been when it was Ceiba. Upon walking in I was impressed with what they have done with the place, especially the bar area. The gracious hostess seated us and we were greeted by our server who was very good and attentive throughout our meal. I started with a Manhattan which was good but not the best. I ordered lobster bisque and it was flavorful but just seemed to be missing SOMETHING. For my main course I had the crab cakes and the table shared sides of lobster mashed potatoes, black truffle Mac and cheese, asparagus, and creamed spinach of which I didn't partake because it has bacon in it and I don't eat pork. The crab cakes were cooked well with not a lot of filling which I wouldn't expect for the price point. They were tasty, not the best I've had but certainly far from the worst. The Mac and cheese was decent and the asparagus were cooked to perfection. The highlight of the meal was the lobster mashed potatoes which had the table fighting for the last spoonful. Overall it was a good dining experience but for the price point I just expected to be wowed a little more. I understand restaurants have off nights and I may very well try it again but as it stands when I consider spending that type of money for dinner I don't think it would be my first choice. read more

My family has dined at this restaurant for years!! Today, I called in advance to surprise my niece and nephew for their wedding anniversary requesting their favorite appetizer, bottle of her favorite Pinot Noir with a special note. Not only did they not receive the items, at the end when receiving their check, the waiter mentioned oh by the way you were suppose to receive these items, we forgot so we can just apply the amount to bill. A very dismissive presentation to what should have been a great surprise on their special day. I called and spoke with the manager Alexander who was not very accommodating. All he kept saying was I can credit your credit card and recharge your family members card for the amount. He didn't understand, it's not the money that's important, it's the moment, the experience that was missed!! It's a shame that top notch customer service is a thing of the pass. The traffic was stupid. I was 4.8 miles from home but over 30 minutes to my destination. And with very little gas. It was 7:45p in DC. I saw a parking space on G St and figured I'd stop and have a glass of Chardonnay and an appetizer. Needed to kill some time and save my gas. (So few gas stations in the city...) This was the closest bar to my parking space. The wine was wonderful. But the fish tacos. Delish. Bright and flavorful. Great fish and delicious coleslaw with the best sauce and a little squeeze of lime made it perfect. I will travel this route on my evening commute on the few days I drive. Such a nice experience - a rush hour break. Latest visit 5/2/2019. Service at the bar is slipping. read more

I came here to celebrate my 30th birthday with my friends (many of whom work in the restaurant industry). When I arrived to the hostess stand to check in, the host assumed that I was the only one there and informed me that the rest of my party needed to be there to be seated. What she failed to realize is that the majority of the party had walked right past her and headed straight for the bar. I informed her that my most of my party had arrived but that we were waiting for 2 more people who were expected to arrive shortly. She told we still could not be seated which I completely understand but her tone wasn't very warm. I joined my friends at the bar, and one of my friends who had arrived about 15 mins earlier than the reservation said she had a similar experience with another hostess. When my friend tried to check in, the host rudely told her that I called and told them I was running late and that there would be a wait for our table. The thing is, I never called and I was right on time for the reservation. I was willing to let the snafus with the hosts go until they let us know that our table was ready. We closed out at the bar and waited by the host stand for a few mins with no word from the host. Meanwhile, the host that told was rude to my friend was literally complaining in front of us to the manager about seating us. It was so strange and blatant. This is supposed to be a face of the restaurant but she was being so unprofessional. She proceeded to sit us at a table in the bar area which was disappointing because I really would have liked to sit in the dining room area especially since it was my birthday. I went to the bathroom shortly after sitting down and noticed that there were plenty of tables open in the dining room so I found it strange that we were seated near the bar. I honestly wanted to leave that point but I stuck it out. I will say our waitress definitely turned this experience around. She was very sweet and attentive. The food was okay. Most of us ordered the surf and turf however, myself the birthday girl, received a very small piece of lobster in comparison to my friends. I didn't make a fuss about it but I definitely should especially with the price of the entree. One of my friend's steaks was very dry and lukewarm, like it had just been sitting under a heating lamp but luckily the kitchen was accommodating and made her another one. Overall, I expected a lot more for the price point. It is very important to feel welcomed inside of a restaurant as soon as you walk in and I just didn't really receive a warm feeling. On top of this, I wasn't really blown away by the food. I don't think I'll be returning. read more

I celebrated my birthday last night and it was an amazing experience. The service was top-notch, I sat in front of the bar by the window in a booth and I cannot forget to recognize my server Serena for making my birthday dinner the best ever. The atmosphere was amazing and the food was so delicious. She recommended a drink called berries and bubbles and it was so so good. I ordered a slice of butter cake and ice cream for my birthday and Serena surprised me with a slice on the house. Serena is a beautiful young lady with a humble spirit who is very confident in herself, and was so accommodating at making my birthday special. Nothing but positive vibes I will be back soon. This is what life is about after a hard day of work and all the stresses in life to be able to go out and be waited on and receive exceptional customer service and again Serena gave me a 5 star dining experience. I would recommend Ocean Prime to everyone who wants to have a delicious dinner, great atmosphere and please request Serena as your server she is an amazing young lady and most of all she will make you and your guest feel special and the customer service that she provides will stand out. My husband and I celebrated Valentines Day early here. We were among the first diners that evening and we're seated in a small romantic booth that was perfect for the occasion. I started with the bubbles and berries cocktail based on reviews even though I'm not a cocktail person. It was worth it for the pictures alone! My entree was the twin lobster tails and I was surprisingly disappointed by the dish. The lobster tasted bland and not the soft pillowy goodness I was hoping for. My husband had the ribeye which was tasty except for some char on the exterior. The jalapeno au gratin potatoes were the highlight if the meal. The heat was perfect for me (not too spicy). We ended the meal with the baked alaska. Overall we had a great time, service was fantastic as was the atmosphere. The other reviewers have some very valid points that the entrees are not quite worth the price. read more

Okay, so I dinned here during restaurant week and overall I was pleased! This is a upscale restaurant so I was a little taken back buy the crowded-ness and non-usage of indoor voices. I know this can't be helped but I naturally talk low sooo I was turned off. This is a upscale restaurant so I just expect more. My reservation time was 9:15pm on 02/04/2017 I arrived a few minutes after that however, I was shocked to see a crowd of patrons waiting to get seated. I felt like this was border line a fire hazard... Their were two hostesses however, only one was actually using OpenTable to seat guest. If it wasn't for the bar having two seats for my heels and me...I would've been very very uncomfortable. While sitting at the bar, I ordered a amaretto sour which was a flat rate of $12...it wasn't on the menu but I appreciated the bartender's willingness to make it. I mean I know it's basic but I was happy. They did in fact use premium liquor and I knew I'd enjoy myself. Our waiter was good. I totally forgot his name. I will say that since it was crowded he didn't seem to interact as much as I'd like him too. The other waitstaff really exceled and made up for his lack of checking up on us. The petite filet was seasoned perfectly however, I asked for my steak to be medium and while eating the sides it was most definitely medium-well by the time I got to it! I'm going to chopped this up as the meat just sitting there on the plate. Good thing I'm not a food snob :) The carrot cake was wonderful. It tasted very rich and creamy and the nuts located at the bottom were not overwhelming. I didn't like the pineapple juice addition used as decoration. It tasted gross! Overall,I enjoyed my food and I was full. I feel like if I were to dine here again, and not during restaurant week I would have had a better experience! So I guess that means I must come here again! read more
