Because I liked the place so much from my birthday dinner here with my best friend just a week or so ago, I decided to introduce the place to my husband for date night last night. It started so promising. Spoke to Cedric on the phone who said they were booked but encouraged us to walk in and he will find us a table. That he did, initially was gonna sit us by the right side/store but in a second he decided to give us a better table at the back, where the wine shelves are. We appreciated that. Amadeus or Amadieu was our server and at first he actually was nice and attentive. From placing our orders to serving our starters (Brie Truffle), it went okay. The bottle of Merlot was also nice. Then service took progressively longer from there. After waiting for 15-20 mins for the appetizer to be cleared, our almost cold Filet Mignon were served. They also didn't cook it right. Medium went to me (what my husband requested) and he had the Medium Rare (what I requested), so to not make a fuss anymore, we decided to just exchange our steaks. It was also not medium rare, it was bordering rare. Anyhow we didn't want it to affect the rest of our night so we just decided to enjoy our bottle of wine. 35-40 mins after, our server has somehow forgotten us while checking on everyone else and chatting with coworkers so after 45 mins we just decided to call his attention for the check, intentionally skipping dessert that's actually included. I regret praising this place and introducing it to my husband as my new favorite restaurant. Despite the lackluster and very disappointing experience, we left a 20% tip. Very sad how I thought this would have been a place to bring more family members and friends. Huge letdown. read more

Nice ambiance. Good staff but the food was awful when we came for lunch. The croque monsieur was cold in the middle. The tarte tatin was mediocre at best. I've lived in France and am married to a French person so I am very familiar with what French food should be like and this wasn't it. Really disappointed. Came here through a Pulsd discount and I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. We got the Brie as the appetizer with steak as the main. The Brie was absolutely amazing. Incredibly tasty and we kept on asking for second and third of the bread just to have more. It was cooked to the point where we still got to enjoy the tasty top. The steak was also cooked to perfection. The potatoes on the side were also incredible. Lastly, they have this type of steak sauce that paired amazingly with the actual meat. I was looking forward to trying this restaurant and visiting the shop next door. We were a bit disappointed. We were there for an early dinner on Saturday. The menu was not the same as was online. We were told the website hasn't been updated in awhile. The only fish option that was on the current menu wasn't available. The escargot was very good but our dinners were underwhelming. We asked for coffee with our dessert and we were told they ran out of coffee. The shop next door was cute and had some nice French items. I will be honest - Ocabanon wasn't our first choice because we planned on being in Chelsea/West Village area where we could have our choice of many excellent places. The day we went here was also the day of the Pride Parade (#LoveWins) so we thought this was the more sensible choice closer to Penn Station and away from the Parade route for a more low key dinner. It was not too busy when we came in early Sunday for dinner - we had a reservation, but not required since we had a choice of table. The waiter was attentive from the moment we sat - offering sparking, still or tap water as we looked over the menu. We decided to order wine by the glass since I wanted white and my wife ordered a red. We placed an order for a half dozen oysters and the St Jacques cerviche. This was some flavorful and delicious seafood - the oysters were juicy and tender served with a mignonette and lemon. The St Jacques cerviche were served on six individual scallop shells with thinly cut scallop and the sweetest, most well balanced cerviche I had a in a while. Both were excellent. For our mains I went with the Salmon since the menu had it listed as "slightly cooked" and put my faith that this fish would be very fresh and cooked perfectly - I was not wrong. A perfect crisp exterior and very rare interior this had some awesome flavor. Served with plenty of vegetables and mashed potatoes - all cooked perfectly and delicious. My wife, went for the burger - which was just simply incredible. Served on a wood board it was a large burger - juicy and perfectly cooked with avocado, bacon, tomato and chipotle sauce. The fries were exemplary along with an herb salad to lighten things up a bit. For dessert we shared a selection of mini sweets which was a sample of 5 different desserts that all were done well. A nice taste of it all. We did a full meal here and it was quite enjoyable, but it is also a place to to sit and relax with a couple of glasses of wine and perhaps a nice light bite from its well rounded menu. So many great choices and the ones we had hit the mark. The service was great and very attentive the entire time, but the whole experience was not cheap. Summary: Fantastic, well-crafted food, great service, and a pleasant atmosphere. Definitely on the pricey side, but pretty worth it IMO. I went here on a Tuesday evening while visiting NY on a business trip. It was at about 7:30pm and I was by myself, but I selected this restaurant after reading the many positive reviews on Yelp. I saw the burger, read about the burger, and decided that the burger was to be mine. I walked into the festively-decorated (spooky) restaurant and was immediately greeted by a friendly hostess. She asked me where I'd like to sit: front, bar, or back. I elected for the back and was brought to a table that could sit for. There were a decent number of diners already there (many of which spoke French), but there were also some tables open. Soon, I was introduced to my server for the evening, Nizar. He asked me if I wanted tap or sparkling water and supplied me with the drink and food menus. To note, the food menu doesn't align exactly with the online version (for ingredients and prices), but they are mostly the same. Nizar gave me a few minutes to look over the menu and then returned. I then ordered. Diet Coke - Yes, I put it here. The reason why is because they serve little 8 oz glass bottles for $4 each. Be aware :-) The Burger - This creation combines so many amazing ingredients together in such an artfully crafted way as to only be described as quite masterful. I ordered mine prepared medium and it was super juicy, fresh, flavorful (especially with the supplement of chipotle sauce), and was pretty filling. The burger also came with a nice side salad and a basket of steak-cut fries with ketchup, both of which were quite enjoyable. That burger, though...that's a solid burger. After eating both of these items, I decided to use my Yelp Check-in offer to get a cappuccino, and then ordered macarons to go. The cappuccino was nice and frothy. Back at the hotel room I discovered that he macarons were amazing. Great flavors and textures. Even flavors that I don't normally enjoy were really REALLY good. Throughout the whole meal, Nizar was friendly and attentive. The total (pre-tax) came to $40, which is certainly not super cheap, but is actually warranted for a meal and experience that was as well executed as this. Risotto was flavorful and I liked that there was more mushroom and other ingredients other than rice. The tapas was great too. Definitely try the yakitori beef skewers if you get tapas plate-- so tender and flavorful. Codfish was uniquely done as a paste with chips to eat it with. The octopus was slightly chewy, but seasoned perfectly. Tarte flambee was so deliciously bacony. Drinks were great too-- try the fizzy island with a cube of peach puree that melts as you drink it. Each dish ranges but averages about $18 each. The portion sizes are surprisingly bigger than I thought they would be. For two people, we over ordered and were full before 2 dishes even came out. We came here on a Tuesday evening. It was very quiet, just two other tables taken. Sat outside and were greeted promptly by the only server. We ordered the foie gras terrine to start: it took a long time before we got it, and it didn't have much taste, it was quite bland and the figs had a bitter taste. My main dish was a special of the day, which also took a while to reach our table. It was the gnocchi with a mushroom creamy sauce with spinach and Parmesan cheese. It was ok. The gnocchi were of the "slightly pan fried" variety rather than the fluffy and tender Italian type. The sauce was fine, creamy, but nothing to write home about. My husband decided to have an appetizer as his main, and had the tuna tartar. It tasted nice and was fresh. The server was very attentive and polite, who made sure we always had bread and water glasses filled, without interrupting us too much. I live close to this restaurant and finally decided to check it out. They have outdoor seating and also seating in the little store next door which happens to be a French grocery store. The inside kind of has a railway layout with a couple of high tables at the back and by the bar. However I was pleased to discover as I was leaving that there's a bigger dining area to the side of the back. Now to the food: I would say this place definitely feels authentic. ( most of the waiters are French and a couple of French people were there for dinner). What drew me were the thick cut fries, however they don't make those anymore because of complaints from the tenants upstairs so that was a bummer. I ended up ordering the smoked salmon salad. The portion of smoked salmon was definitely filling and the salad was very delicious- just some mixed greens, tomatoes and mangoes with a light dressing. I found the proportions to be perfect, I got a hint of onion in the salad but there were no actual onions, which I thought was genius. The food came out about 5 minutes after I ordered. Had a very good meal here. The service was wonderful!! Our server was so sweet and brought over markers and paper for my daughter to color on. She was thrilled. Plus she gave us some extra avocado for my daughter to eat and didn't charge us. That was very nice of her!!!! It's a cute restaurant with a little shop attached. We ordered escargots, salmon burger, and mushroom risotto in truffle oil. The escargots we had as appetizer were very salty. there were 6 tiny pieces of snails just drowned in olive oil. Salmon burger was just mediocre. Risotto was despicable. I could not taste any truffle. Carrots were undercooked and overall made the plate taste too "healthy." Coming here on Halloween weekend was super spontaneous, but it was a nice kind of spontaneity and good surprise! When we arrived to the restaurant, it was decorated with Halloween decors and the workers in costumes! Fun vibes and welcoming feels. To start our dinner, we ordered 6 oysters, which were very fresh, and a cocktail each, which was quite strong but good. For dinner, we shared an order of mussels in white wine, beef stew in red wine, and mushroom risotto. All the food were well made, especially the risotto! The dish was super aromatic, creamy, and moist! Every bite just made me want to take another bite! The beef stew was cooked to it was very tender and rich in flavors, but I wish it wasn't cooked as long because some of the beef was almost disintegrated in the stew. I actually liked the holiday touches with the miniature nut crackers at each table. Service: slow but very nice, & at times funny! Food: Beet salads (coworkers loved it! I'm not a big fan of beets.. ) escargot (must have!) in olive oil, butter & parsley baked to perfection! Entrees: Salmon burger w/ fries, Roast chicken w/ mash & green beans, pasta w/ shrimps, mussels, and scallops. Coworker didn't like the salmon burger, but the pasta dish was good. Saw this restaurant advertised on Pulsd and decided to give it a try. Of course before purchasing, I reviewed the menu on their website, which was updated to show their Winter 2019 menu. I was happy to see that all appetizers and entrees were available with the Pulsd voucher and was eager to try their filet mignon. However when we got to the restaurant, prices on the menu differed from those on their website's (updated) menu. We were told the steak was not included and we were unable to pay an upcharge to choose it - very disappointing! Anyway the rest of the food was fine - we picked the truffled Brie for an appetizer, and the chicken and cassoulet special for our entree. The Brie came bubbling hot and was pretty good. My cassoulet was a huge portion and was crispy on top, and came with pork shank/duck confit/sausage and beans. The creme brûlée was the best part of the meal and we happily devoured it. Wednesday night before Thanksgiving - not too busy. They have Hightables and 'normal' tables in the back of the restaurant, Most of the service staff speak french too. She explained everything that came with the voucher and helped with suggestions. Throughout the meal she checked on us and made sure we had everything we needed. She definitely made it not only a pleasant experience but made us feel kind of like VIPs. Now for the food. We started with French Onion Soup. It was flavorful and delicious. Sometimes the soup itself can be bland with people relying on the cheese for flavor but not here. We both got the chicken dish. I switched out the potato for Gratin Dauphinois which was excellent. I tried the fingerling potatoes which were great too. The chicken was so moist and perfectly cooked and the sauce was heavenly. My wife never finishes a meal, and this was a generous serving, but she ate every last bit! I wished I had taken a before and after photo. We finished with the profiteroles. They were kind enough to split them into 2 dishes (without us asking) so we could properly enjoy them. Needless to say they were a perfect ending to a perfect meal. We will definitely be back here. I love French food and only moved to the area about 2 years ago. I had yet to find my local French place where I can pop in for a nice lunch on weekend afternoons after shopping. This is it! I love that it's not on a busy street, the staff is really nice and the food I had was amazing. I had the burger and holy s%*t! It's stuffed with brie AND some rib meat thing. It was SO good! The Brussels sprouts were also really delicious. Didn't love my wine but they seem to have a decent selection. The place looks like a cave/industrial place with a shop/cafe adjacent to it. Earlier in 2018, I was hired to DJ a corporate party at OCabanon and the venue loved it so much, they wanted me back to DJ their New Year's Eve party. From loading in my equipment to the versatility of their venue, I was blown away by my experience. The management and staff were all friendly, hospitable, and accommodating. The food was out of this world and the drink menu was extensive, with many options for everyone. Their customers seemed to all be treated like family and with more than enough servers to go around, they were prepared for anything. On both nights, both staff and guests ended up dancing and fun times were had by all. I've been wanting to try this spot out as it's in my neighborhood and I love french cuisine, so it was perfect for a low key Friday night dinner with my fiancé. Walking through the front entrance leads to a narrow front bar space that also has 4 top tables running along the opposite side of the bar. The host stand is in the back of the space and leads into a larger dining space with super high ceilings. The space had interesting art and felt country french. We were sat right away which was nice. We attempted to order a bottle of wine, but they were out of two of our choices so we ended up each just having a cocktail. Not having the majority of a wine list available on a Fri. eve is not good... they served complimentary bread which was some type of wheat slice. Nothing memorable until you used it to soak up the butter from our escargot appetizer. The escargot was good, snails were already out of shell when it was served. Making me question how fresh they were. For mains I got the burger which was stuffed with Brie, bacon and brisket. Mike got the steak frites. The fries here are really good. Thick cut, super crispy steak fries that are extra tasty when dunked in the chipotle mayo that came with the burger. The cut of the steak was so so. Definitely not worth the price. It was chewy/ tough (even at medium rare). The burger wasn't bad. I was excited to see how the Brie would be, but there actually wasn't much in the burger. This place was pricey for what we got. Shhhh this place is a hidden gem! Came with a few friends I study abroad many years ago in France with for Saturday lunch and we think we might have found our regular go to get together spot! My husband and I dined here on a Tuesday evening. Food was delicious and good-size portions. Service was attentive and excellent. Escargots appetizer - delicious, love that buttery goodness! Not too garlicky. The bread (for dipping) was really good as well. Special: Softshell crab salad appetizer - omg, this was a huge salad, probably good for two people to share. It was heavenly dressed and the softshell crab was crunchy and amazing. Seafood pasta entree: Lots of mussels, big shrimps (sweet and fresh), and decent sized scallops (like the size of my thumbnail). The white wine butter sauce had the perfect balance of flavors. I just wish this dish came a little bit hotter. Filet Mignon: Great. Cooked perfectly to the requested medium rare, served with a red chimichurri sauce. Tender, well-prepared. Typical portion for a filet mignon, says my husband. Creme Brulee dessert: I liked that this was a good size creme brulee, not one of those mini pots that are 3 bites. And it was delicious too, definitely hit the spot. I would love to come back and try more of their menu. Menu prices might seem a bit pricey, but at least the food is delicious and they don't skimp on the portion sizes. I took two coworkers to lunch at OCabanon and we loved it! It's near the holidays so there were not that many people at lunch. Our server was helpful and knowledgeable about the food and the wine and helped me decide on the beef stew. Good call! It was warm and hearty. One of my work friends had the steak frites, and the other had the steak sandwich. All meals were yummy and, although we were full, the portions are small enough to finish.
