This was my first visit to the area and I was excited to try the local cuisine being right on the ocean. The restaurant has a rustic feel with a lot of seating. Views are gorgeous of the coastline. Also parking is free for a couple hours. Service was a bit slow. We opted for the lobster rolls and a cup of the seafood chowder plus two IPA beers. The quality of the lobster was good but not much flavor. Very bland and bread average. Also served with bag of potato chips. The seafood chowder was better. This place could use a remodel but at the very least a boost in flavoring the lobster roll and better quality bread for serving. It was underwhelming and disappointing for such a beautiful area. Relying on the free parking and walk on the Ogunquit Trail for their tourist customer base. Large restaurant three different areas to sit we choose to sit in a shaded area with a good view of the water. It was just a quick stop and I was happy all the food came out quickly to get us back up and moving around. The clams were so fresh, I had never seen a clam neck until here **FUN FACT!!! You can eat them** I asked the waiter if I was supposed to eat it, he told me no that most people didn't? Seemed odd so i decided to go further and research it. The food at Oar was pretty solid. However, being seafood lovers, we weren't as impressed with the seafood collection. First off very good service! I'd like to thank our server, who was on top of her game. This is a cozy and comfortable place. Yet there was some delay getting a table. Also the bathroom being shut down, am thinking it might make sense to have more than a couple stalls. The lines were rather extensive, as we moved for the kind young men and women bringing food out. Definitely dine on the outside area. The food was alright. I've had better haddock sandwiches, although it was flavorful. Size wise though with potato chips instead of fries, would prefer other options. I will say the clam chowder was above average. This is fun for family and friends, but I hope they'll consider some upgrades. That would help bring them up a bit. read more

The location and views are unbeatable. It was awesome being next to the windows and right where everyone was walking to walk the marginal walkway. We were extremely hungry and worried we wouldn't get to eat in time before our cruise. So we went somewhere right across the street to get food asap. We had a little wait just to put our name in but overall only took ten minutes to get seated. My son's got the chicken tender and cheeseburger which they both loved. My oldest is a frie lover so a little disappointed they didn't have fries but was happy with the chips. My mom got the chowder and thought it was very good. Biggest draw here is the view; you're sitting right on the water in Perkins Cove with an absolutely stellar backdrop to enjoy while you eat. Time your meal here over sunset and you're in for a treat. According to our server, the owner was too cheap to keep buying the crab. The Oarweed is our GoTo every year for over 30 years. The view is amazing and the food delicious. We love the Seafood Trio and Baked Stuffed Potato. If you like "indian Pudding" their Oarweed Pudding is amazing! they have their own home made salad dressings and their side salads are huge. Every year we look forward to seeing Sandy, our favorite waitress in her signature neon Hoka sneakers. She always remembers us and we laugh alot- Sandy has been there forever and we love her efficiency and no nonsense attitude. All the staff works very hard as they do in all the seasonal places...and they put up with Alot. Three seating options, inside (now with AC when its hot!), the patio/porch area and outside tables, so something for everyone looking out over Oarweed Cove. If there are no oceanside tables open, don't throw a hissy fit. We've seen those and it's embarassing! read more

When we walked in, the owner yelled at the host for seating someone who shouldn't be there. The owner kept telling everyone to calm down and he was the only one upset. Oh well. Our waitress, Sandy, was THE MOST rude person ever. The food was ok but pretty expensive considering it was served on a paper food tray with a bag of chips but the staff really took the cake on this one. Not a good experience. I was a bit apprehensive about the menu as we usually like a bit more eclectic options but we had the tuna melt, seafood chowder and stuffed shrimp plate and everyone loved their meal. My sister & I had lunch here on July 18th. The Oarweed never disappoints!! We were seated immediately under the awning outside. Trevor was our waiter, he was friendly & had such wonderful positivity. We both had lobster rolls. I had wine (2 glasses, no shame here) - cold, lovely & served in a clean glass - made me so happy!! We shared a slice of the lemon blueberry cake which was delicious! All of that, the view included & the bill was under $100. We've been coming to Ogunquit for 30 years, we never miss eating at The Oarweed!! Every winter I dream about Oarweed and every summer my husband and I eat there at least three times (sometimes up to five) during our two-week vacation in Ogunquit. Great lobster, great service (special kudos to Sandy), great welcome (thank you, Jeff), and the most fantastic views. Most of all, eating there is fun, and even the limited wine list offers some delicious wines that have become favorites. I had the baked scallops- came out raw. Took them back and the scallops were still disgusting. The scallops were in a water sauce. The twice baked potatoes - tasted like a potato with no taste... just awful. The appetizer, potato skins, came out with raw bacon and uncooked potato. The chicken was breaded and was baked. Veterans......Do not dine here, especially if you have a service dog. After a couple of days of being under the weather, I was feeling well enough to go for a nice ride. So I took my girlfriend and my service dog Finn and headed towards the Maine coast. As I neared the the coast I really wanted to dine at the Oarweed, as I have enjoyed a nice meal there before. Upon arriving the hostess and the waitress were very gracious and sat the three of us at an outdoor table. At the outset, our waitress Amanda was kind and fairly attentive. After placing our order and then receiving our food after a lengthy wait, our meals arrived. I ordered a lobster roll for myself, the hold the shell lobster for my girlfriend and a chicken breast for my service dog. At that point, we became invisible. We never saw our waitress again to check on our meals or offer a refill on a beverage. As we were finishing up, the OWNER was seating a table near us and suddenly started to berate us both about having a dog at the establishment. I have Finn's licensure handy on my phone and offered to show him the credentials. He then proceeded to tell me that it didn't matter and dogs were not allowed. Mind you we had been there over an hour and left sitting just waiting for the check. Now had I know this before seating, I would have left and done business elsewhere. However we had been served a marginal meal and then sat there just waiting to leave. Mind you, after his outburst I was ready to leave on the spot, yet we had to wait another 30 minutes to receive the check so we could pay to leave a place that DID NOT want our business. The best part was the cowardice of the owner to not address our table about either the poor service or attempted shaming in front of other guests. I would like to thank the lovely Canadian couple who witnessed the entire situation and extend a word of empathy to us. So I am not sure if they are Veteran discriminate, discriminate of people or color or just generally miserable in general but I would NEVER recommend this establishment. So, food-wise, Oarweed is ok, but not amazing. But you're not eating here for the food. You're eating here because the view is outstanding and you're most likely hot from walking the Marginal Way. However, the food was better than I expected. I got a basic salad with tuna (which did not have too much Mayo, something I appreciate), and the salad was bigger and better than I thought (their lemon zinger dressing was yummy!). My husband got a chicken sandwich, which he said was very flavorful. It's odd that they only give a bag of chips with lunch - no fries? Two sodas was $7, which seems a bit steep. Everything else was just so so from the service, slow- even though it was not crowded and the server was not very attentive. The food was a C. We ordered the chicken sandwich and although the chicken was flavorful it was not pounded rather just a big hunk of chicken on a roll . Someone else had the crabcake which was really disappointing as it was bland and dry and the chicken salad which was basically chicken and mayonnaise. After I realized that I wouldn't make it to the bakery in Portland where I had planned to get blueberry pie, I scrambled to find an alternative. I happened to be at Perkins Cove to get lunch and stroll through the shops and along the shore and I found out that Oarweed serves blueberry pie too. Before I left the area, I picked up a slice of pie to go and brought it all the way to my b&b in New Hampshire. The pie was worth the wait. It was wonderfully sweet and tasted like a slice of Maine. read more

The Oarweed staff turned my family away because we had a stroller. I went to the restaurant around 4pm with my wife, 5 y/o daughter, and 3 month old son. My son was sleeping in the stroller, which was not unusually large. The staff stated that they have a no stroller policy for both indoor and outdoor dining areas. The restaurant was not busy, and they should have accommodated the stroller. Instead, they chose to deny us service. The employees did not offer any explanation of why this was the policy. Not family friendly, will not be dining at the Oarweed in the future - with or without the stroller. read more

Shithouse. Stopped in this afternoon for a quick drink and a snack. Ordered crab cakes and a shrimp roll, with a cocktail and a beer. We'd finished our drinks by the time the food arrived (it was about 20% full or less). The crab cakes were the most anemic, flaccid looking sorry excuses for a crabcake I've ever seen. The store bought dry breadcrumbs on the exterior had no color on them at all - presumably oven baked. The taste was gross and the mouthfeel was mealy. My wife's shrimp roll with frozen shrimp was likewise, unseasoned, mealy and inedible. We ate one bite each and decided to cut our losses. We told the waiter we wanted to pay for our drinks and leave. He said he'd need to get the manager. He came over a few minutes later and asked what was wrong with the food (clearly not wanting to allow us to not pay for it) and we explained. He said that there was salt and pepper on the table to address the unseasoned shrimp roll (not sure what he thought about the rest of our feedback). I told him I wasn't going to stand there and argue about it - the food was disgusting, we didn't eat it and wouldn't be paying for it. He produced a check and I paid, leaving $2 tip for the 2 drinks. As we left the "restaurant" (and I used that word is the most generous possible way here) the manager waved at us through the kitchen window and shouted "hope y'all have a terrible day!". It would have been, had we stayed and ate this crap. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

We ate here because the outdoor seating had a great view and sits right on the cove. That was the best part of our experience. It appears that they have lots of local college kids working here over the summer. I get it but I have mixed feelings. Our server was a really nice kid and was trying his best. He did get our order right and did a great job making small talk. He was tipped well, but the experience does lack in that it's blatantly obvious this job is not their number one priority. You can decide how you feel about it if you choose to eat there. We ordered the crab cakes which to me were the worst I have had in Maine. Way to much breading and mushy. I didn't care for them at all. Then we ordered the seafood mix which was essentially a few shrimp a few scallops and some fish put into a scampi dish and put under the broiler. It was ok. The seafood was not overcooked and it was done correctly but it just didn't have that wow factor. It felt very rehearsed and dated. I liked the twice baked potato the most. I was disappointed that there was no bread with the meal. One thing that was very strange was that my wife asked for hot water for tea and our server put it in one of those plastic cocoa cola cups. She obviously didn't consume it. After my first impression it seems to me that this is a seasonal spot that caters to the masses.
