Our experience was absolutely amazing! My Mom and I had hiked in Estes and wanted to try out the food scene in Boulder. The hostess was unable to give us a seat at first and we waited at the standing bar. Within 5 minutes we were seated. The manager or co-owner poured our water glasses due to our waiter attending another table. All the staff were professional, knowledgeable about the menu and attentive. Our order was placed correctly, our wine came out quickly. The food exceeded expectations!!! The Kale and Apple Salad was the best I have ever had in a resturant (I am a foodie to the core and a salad/greens connoisseur). We ordered the Roasted Rotisserie Baked Chicken - seasoned & cooked to perfection with a side of garlic mashed potatoes and parsnips. Our main course took a little longer than expected, so the chef/manager let us know it would be 10 more minutes and refilled our wine glasses. The meal was unhurried with a leisurely pace. All the staff seemed passionate about the quality of service and food which was impressive. Definitely a restaurant to keep on your radar whether a local or visiting for the weekend! A shout out to our waiter Tucker who made our meal special! read more

I have visited Oak at 14th several times and I've never been disappointed with the food or the service. Service is friendly and food perfect. I like the fact that they have a wide selection of small and shared plates for dinner. It's always a nice way to try a variety of food. For lunch, I especially like their salads, and the shrimp and grits. I love Oak's late night menu, which is always nice when you want a bite later in the evening! read more

Uggghh!!! I'm troubled here...during the quarantine we ordered a few time for pickup and loved it. The food cooked in the Oak oven was flavorful and balanced. Last night, my wife and I went for in person dining and had a rather lack luster experience however. We were informed that they were not operating the amazing oak oven which added so much flavor. I had the Piri Piri chicken and my wife had the scallops, both were fine but nothing exceptional by any means. The wine list included high end wines but some of them that would be able to be purchased at the liquor store for $25 were up charged to $76! When you add the the mandatory 24% community value fee to the whole check, this made it all a bit much. We ordered half a chicken which was served with the salad, the scallops which was six average size scallops served with tempura fried mushrooms in a miso broth, and two beers. Our total bill was $94. Hmmm :/ don't think we'll be back read more

Not impressed....expensive lunch for two sandwich-$40 without tip....kitchen and the chefs are handling many dishes without gloves and not washing their hands. Acoustics sucked!!! Better choices in Boulder read more

This review is for Jay at the bar. He's amazing. He made us margaritas that were so delicious. Go visit him. He's wonderful!

Stopped by and got a drink called the Mexican Stag! It's great, super creamy but spicy. read more

Loved it here so much. Charles, the manager, was so friendly and welcoming and really made us feel like he was pleased to have us as guests. We ordered a TON of small plates and shared a main entree. SO MUCH food. Here's all we had: *Scallop Sashimi- UNBELIEVABLE. My favorite dish. The scallops had the perfect texture and the butter ponzu was amazing- buttery with citrus. *Hamachi Crudo- so light and fresh *Truffle pasta- another AMAZING dish. Rich, truffle sauce over perfectly looked pasta. Loved the egg yoke in it. *Bone Marrow- My husband enjoyed it, however I do not care for this cuisine. *Foie Gras- another dish I did not care for. But still didn't ruin the the experience. *Meatballs and grits- best meatball I've ever had. Texture was smooth and sauce and grits mixed so well. I couldn't get over it. *Pork Belly- again, didn't love it, but I really don't care for pork belly so I can't judge. Yes, I know....that was a ton. But we didn't stop there. We shared the Scallops with gnocchi as our main dish. Scallops were seared to perfect and gnochhi were just perfect. Truly tasted homemade. Had several drinks that were all good...the bartender made a some type of lavender drink (Aviation?) and it was unique. Price wasn't bad either...for 4 drinks, bottle of sparkling water, all that food plus a slice of cake...it came to just over $200. Really not bad at all for allllllll that food. read more

Oak has amazing fried pickles and their cous cous salad had an Asian twist which I love because I'm Asian, obvi. The restaurant was in the middle of Pearl St. in Boulder. Great place for out of town folks like myself! read more

This is a really lovely and 5-star place. What makes this a 5-star place is mostly the people who work there. The chef looks like the main singer from Maroon 5 and the wait staff are all so accommodating and jump to the rescue when things like a storm happens and people have to move inside. The food is really good and quite fancy/intricate creations. It is not really my personal style (I prefer vegetarian restaurants or more ethnic ones) but I think most people would really enjoy it. We shared 3 tapas - the octopus/sausage/potatoes tapa, the kale/apple/candied nut salad, and the chicken liver pate. read more

The best! Great service, excellent food and amazing cocktails! The tomato braised meatballs and grits are incredible - a can't miss item, and the Across the Atlantic is my favorite drink. The roasted chicken with basil mashed potatoes are excellent. Looking forward to the next dinner experience. read more

The food here was wonderful. The salads are amazing. We were all big fans of the kale salad in particular. We lost track of how many people were on staff here as there seemed to be different people for each task. I was glad that the hostess doubled as a sommelier because she was really quite helpful in choosing the wine. The biggest downside is that it is so noisy our small table of four could barely hear one another. read more

Finally! Oak hits my radar then burns and then gets fixed again while I'm out of the country. I've heard about their food and their bar program. Since I had a class to teach later, it was all about the food, especially the shared plates. While I was waiting for my food to arrive, they started with two different bread slices, one a tartine bread and the other a multigrain (or sprouted bread) using Avery product. It was served with butter and salt. It definitely eased by brief wait. The food service was amazing prompt. Special note: great waitress, answered my questions promptly and if she didn't know she found someone that did. I started with both the braised meatballs & burrata with Anson Mills grits and crispy fried pickles & Green Goddess aioli. The grits tasted smooth with a hint of corn. They were great with the San Marzano tomatoes - such a fresh taste. The meatballs were a great texture complemented by the silky white burrata. I kill for burrata (not really, but still, I might). Such a small dish in its mini cast iron skillet, but it fills you up. The fried pickles were emphasized as a diners and staff favorite. I can see why. They had a slightly sweet bite with mild tartness. And the batter was lightly there adding crunch. The aoili was palate cleansing with its freshness. I look forward to dining here again. I might have to come at a later hour, so I can watch more cooking action in front of me. It was quite quiet at 5:30-6pm. read more

The service was a tad slow when we first arrived (given we were starving from the morning hike)- however - the food, cocktails and atmosphere were worth the wait. Quinoa salad (amazing)- market salad (a bit smaller- beer lovers rejoice), and my favorite - the gnocchi. Yum. read more

Oak at Fourteenth - Patio lunch on Pearl and 14th... Delicious! - New American Near Me - Boulder, Colorado

This is on Boulder's Ten Best Places to Eat List and we agreed with a great lunch. Six of us stopped in while in town for a conference and loved everything about it. First, the simple, but elegant atmosphere was attractive. The wood-fired oven made the entire place smell amazing. We also could see the daily donuts and knew that would complete our lunch. Service throughout was all about the details and we noticed. Utensils were swapped out after appetizers, our waiter was quick with answers, and made it easy to split our check. We noticed touches that went beyond for the entire restaurant. We ordered fried pickles as an appetizer. We were told they were five in an order but when the order arrived we had six so we had enough for all. From the salads to sandwiches everyone thought the entrees were delicious. Portions were perfect for lunch. We ended by sharing the donut of the day. A freshly made donut with a vanilla bean glaze. Perfect to split with a friend, it was amazing. read more

I've been to Oak for Happy Hour and for lunch. Both times exceeded my expectations. The cocktail bar is what initially attracted me. Based on the bottles I saw from the outside, I figured that the cocktail program was advanced. I was not disappointed. Cocktails are seasonally-inspired and excellent. One memorable libation, in particular, comes to mind. It was a spiced apple cocktail that was boozy yet exceptionally balanced, not cloying. The food? Awesome. Notable was a fried fish sandwich and tots. Both were elevated to an unexpected level. Simply excellent comfort food. When I'm in Boulder, Oak is definitely on my mind. read more

We enjoyed the seasonal roasted carrot/greens salad, meatballs, and sausage as starters and the roasted half chicken and risotto as our mains (all split three ways; portions were just right!). The meatballs were a favorite of mine--so tender, and amazing balance of texture and flavors combined with the grits and fresh tomato sauce. The roasted chicken was super moist and the risotto was cooked perfectly. We had the bananas foster for dessert--I don't even care for bananas that much, but this was amazing! The waffle and banana ice cream were delicious. read more

What I was drinking and eating. 14th street soda: small $12 drink. Incredibly sweet but very good. The flavored are cherry and vanilla mixed with a death's door whiskey. Full marks. Wagyu beef tartare. was a very interesting plate and came with plenty of tartare, greens and a fried egg. There were a few chips on the plate but not enough, so we used some of the bread at the table. It wasnt the best I have ever had but it sure was good. Full marks. Spring pea and Avalanche chèvre tortellini. Okay this dish sounds AH-MAY-ZING. I was super stoked to get it. But what I got were 8 tortellini lots of greens and some snow peas. The tortellini were really good too bad they were small and there weren't many of them. The sauce also was a bit over powering in respect to all the veggies on the plate. I tried my friends soft shell crab risotto. holy garlic. That is all. Will I be back? You bet! When? TBD read more

Clearly one of the best places to eat in Boulder. We just had an amazing meal. Meatball app is fantastic as was the grilled sausage. Ate the short ribs and the agnolotti with king crab. Just ridiculously delicious. Wrapped it up with port and a Tokai and we shared the bananas foster. This was crazy good. read more

Yum, yum, yum. We sat at the bar and had meatballs and grits, fried pickles and scallops and pork belly. I lived in NC for 10 years, and was with a born and raised southerner. So we're consider ourselves grit aficionados. I'd say these grits were decent. Not fabulous, but for Colorado, probably pretty good. On the other hand, I could have eaten the scallops and pork belly all night. It was just a great blend. There were several items that we saw come out of the kitchen that also looked delicious. The service at the bar was attentive, and the restaurant was comfortable and overall, inviting. The place was a little pricey, but we had a few drinks and shared a few appetizers, so it we felt like we were able to make the most of it. If I'm back in Boulder, I will definitely come back. read more

Walk-in dinner for 3, Sat night of the great flood of 2013. Had an hour plus wait, and dinner service was a bit slow (esp after the hour wait) - but the staff was very very helpful and attentive and aware. Sat outside and a nice bar table and had Oak martinis - very refreshing. Three different staff stopped by to ensure we were still ok. Place has an amazing bricken over for roasting and grilling - you can feel the heat when you check in. Ordered fresh calamari (lots of calamari flavor), fried pickles with a great aoili sauce (eat these while they are hot), meatballs (3) - very light with an awesome cheese sauce. Had Kale salad (best kale food I ever ate anyplace) Apple salad and pasta with lobster (this needed to be drained and was too lemony). Menu print size is too small (bring your iphone flashlight), and the place is too noisy if you are going for a quiet dinner. Outdoor dining would be awesome on drier and warmer days. Make reservations! Five stars for food and wait staff - three stars for noise level. read more

MMmmmm.... can't wait to go back. I had a "Monks Garden" drink, it was vodka based with tarragon and other herbs infused. Delicious. For my entree, I had the ramen - it was great. Great for lunch! Garden fresh food for salads. Always a great meal! Try the heirloom tomatoes.

Stopped by on a whim for lunch - definitely a good call. Fried pickles are wonderful - seem to be a tempura vs. the typical fried pickle. A bit salty but that is the nature of pickles! Perfect size for 2 people to share. BLT on Chedder Jalepeno bread - to die for. Adding avocado even more so. The bread is a perfect complement to the overall dish, and the addition of pepper jam mixes just a bit of sweet into salty. Would definitely get this again. A bit of salt, a hint of spicy with a tiny bit of sweet. The homemade chips are a great side addition to this. Double burger - good, but just a burger really. The best part of the dish was the homemade tater tots. Burger was a bit greasy for my tastes and the bun was really good - not your standard burger bun. Again, tater tots...... Service, as others note, was very good. The only irritation, hence 4 stars v. 5, was the auto refills of my Diet Coke. They neglected to ask me, nor did they tell me each refill was $3.50 each. Quite a shock at the end of the bill - would have gotten a specialty soda if I wanted to spend $11 for soda pop. The main dining room is a bit loud. If you prefer quiet ask for the Acorn room instead. Definitely want to go back for dinner. They had some amazing looking desserts and from what others have said they have a good dinner menu as well. read more

Contemporary Food can be like bad contemporary art; too much is thrown at you at once and you are unable to taste the subtleties . Random parts of the dishes would be phenomenal, but then quickly get ruined by their choses of pairings in the dishes. Nothing felt complete, everything was very choppy. It was so upsetting because my mouth was craving the true beauty they were barely hinting at; such a tease. Beets, Burrata, and prosciutto! How can you go wrong? You can go wrong by adding a random hot sauce to overpower all the beautiful delicacies. The ricotta gnocchi was interesting because it literally dissolved on your tongue; but the rest of the dish ruined anything it had going by throwing in weird textures and oversized accents. In a very small uneducated town, this might be considered wacky and artistic or high class. In Boulder, I think it only might stick around because of its location. Fried pickles were excellent. For Drinks, the Monk's Garden was fresh, lively and deep. But the second drink I ordered (which was recommended to me by my third waitress) was the TOAS. It was very light, like a diet drink. Hints of flavors that didn't seem to pair well. I felt I had to drink the whole thing in one gulp to be able to taste it. The Manager asked me how I liked it. I said it was "Alright." He calmly stopped what he was doing and ask me for specifics. I appreciate that he cared what I had to say. With a lot more care I could see Oak being the definition of New American. read more

I wish I had taken photos at this place! I just loved it! And the food was both beautiful and delicious! We were looking for something new to try and we were between Oak at fourteenth and a few other places. Not sure why, but the website didn't pull us in. But, we decided to check it out one night while we were walking around Pearl Street and the ambiance most definitely did pull us in. Plus, my husband went in to make a reservation and the folks inside were super nice. We ended up sitting at the bar that overlooks the prep area and that was super fun (and a bit warm!). I had a special salad that was similar to the farmer's market salad that was amazing. And I also had the scallops, which were delicious. Cooked perfectly! Also, the butterscotch pudding may be the best dessert we've ever had. Service was outstanding. Wine was wonderful... I'd give them 6 stars if I could! We both loved this place and had a delightful evening! We'll be back next time we're in Boulder! read more

WOW We just had our first experience here and it was fantastic. Ok, let me get the bad out of the way first. We were here for a beer dinner and we were at a table that was too full. We had 12 people at our table, and the same size table right next to us had 8. Make both have 10 in the future and every is happy. That was the limit of the bad I experience for the evening. The dinner we went to was a 5 course beer dinner that was paired with Avery beers. EVERYTHING that we had was spectacular. 10 beers / 5 courses, and a starter beer and snack. I really have no idea what my favorite course was, I do know I asked for bread to wipe up the sauce from the swordfish course, but everything was fantastic. From course 1 to course 5. An added treat was watching these people plate up the food. From our seats we had a great vantage point and the were a well tuned machine. Our first experience here will not be our last and it left us feeling sad that it was just our first experience, we should have come here sooner. ***** An added note, the Avery folks did a great job talking about the beers. read more

This is my last week staying in Boulder so I'm trying to kill as many yelp bookmarks as possible, glad that I included this place! The waiters are very friendly and even good-looking lol, the sashimi starter came with avocado and grapes as sides and was really good, my New York strip was yummy too but a little dry, but I don't blame the chef cuz I ordered it medium well, I love the sweet corn in the dish! Our caramel desserts were of big portion and lovely too read more

I came to Oak on a whim and sat at the bar with my wife. Matt was our bartender who was immediately friendly and helped guide us with great drink suggestions. We had gotten married the day before our visit and both bartenders, Matt and Jay, made sure to make our night above and beyond special. I can't say enough about their energy and service! Aside from their service, the food was top notch!! Both of our meals and the desserts (yes multiple) we tried were executed to perfection! Would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the Boulder area. read more

Service has improved a ton here and the food is great. Now I recommend it to a lot of my out of town friends.

Fantastic concept, perfect execution, especially at the bar. The cocktails go way above and beyond and they bottle their own sodas! Glen was perfect company behind the bar even while he was very busy. Amazing experience top to bottom, thank you Oak and we can't wait to go back. read more

Stopped in for lunch the other day and had a tasty wood fire grilled hamburger, house make tater tots, and a house made root beer. Everything was perfect. Came in again with my family for lunch and most of us got the Ruben (really tasty pastrami! ) except for a scallop dish (cooked perfectly). Our server, Peter, was friendly, professional, and helped us select some delicious wines. If you're in boulder, go here. read more

After dinner last night, I've got to agree with our server's statement that Oak is "the best restaurant in Boulder". That same confidence and pride showed through on the phone in how accommodating the host was to get us a table last minute. It really showed through the food in both flavor and presentation. The gnocchi, risotto, kale salad and hamachi crudo were exquisitely prepared and tasted as good as they looked. An added bonus was that the portion sizes weren't the typical fancy restaurant three bites per course leaving you with barely a taste. Even the small plates were perfect to share. Our cocktails were creative and perfectly balanced. We had wine with dinner and even though it was the cheapest bottle on the menu (LA Syrah from Charles Helfenbein) it was excellent. The ambience from where we sat at the chef's counter added a visual feast to our dinner as we watched wood fire oven chef roast lamb, ribeye, chicken, bread, gnocchi and more. Watching the head chef, right next to him prepare every dish was like watching an artist at work. Oak isn't cheap but if you have one restaurant to visit in Boulder, I'd recommend you give it a try. read more

The salads and sandwiches at this upscale/casual joint were some of the best we've ever had and the highlight of our trip to Boulder! Oak has delicious food, creatively prepared. The service was also extremely fast and friendly. Highlights: Salads I'd take a burger over rabbit food any day, but after reading a previous review raving about the apple and kale salad I decided to try the poached pear and winter greens salad. It had an incredible combination of flavors - subtly sweet and tart champagne dressing over very fresh greens, with an addictive hazelnut butter and paper-thin Manchego cheese crisps. Specials I highly recommend the daily specials. We ordered two- fried pickles and a pastrami sandwich. The pastrami sandwich was incredible. Both the bread and the meat had a delicious smoky flavor from the wood-fired grill. The pickles were fried in a light and fluffy batter and came with a surprisingly tasty green goddess sauce. Ginger Beer If you're a fan of ginger the house-made ginger beer has a very potent fresh ginger flavor which I found paired nicely with the pork belly BLT. Just OK: The pork belly BLT itself was flavorful, but it didn't blow me away like the salad and pastrami sandwich. I also didn't care for the salad that came with it which had some slightly tough greens and a sweet mustardy dressing. read more

Stopped in for lunch. Just like its sister restaurants of Brider and Acorn, they had donuts. We ordered one. It was simply a glazed doughnut. Not as good as the one I've had at Acorn, but still ok. The fried pickles are always good. I had the BLT sandwich which had pork belly on it. To be honest, it didn't need the pork belly. The bacon and bread were delicious. The ramen was also ordered. This was not very good at all. Tasted way too much of seaweed and the broth was way too dark it to be ramen. Our server said this was amazing - it wasn't. Honestly prob the worse ramen I've ever had. Flavors were not there and it just had way too much going on in it. If you like ginger beer, try theirs. read more

I visited Oak this evening to celebrate my soon to be brother in-law's birthday. The food was only outmatched by the quality of service and attention to detail that was offered by the wait staff. Thanks to the staff for making the birthday a huge success, and I will definitely be visiting Oak again. read more

I wandered into this restaurant spontaneously with my family for lunch. It was such a pleasant surprise! The service was friendly and warm. The plain iced tea was even above average (if you like lemon, which I do!). I got the heirloom tomato salad, which was fantastic. If you order it, I'd recommend adding avocado. I also sampled the grilled cheese and it was excellent! The atmosphere here is bright, relaxing, and elegant. read more

This used to be our favorite spot in town to throw down money; however, the last two times we dined here, the bartenders didn't even know how to make a Negroni!!! We've watched them google it on their phone twice in a row (not secretly as we were sitting right in front of them). It's crazy how far the restaurant has allowed themselves to fall. A few to many years ago, I would have given 10/5 stars. Things used to be emaculate, but now that restaurants are struggling to find staff (not to their fault), standards and expectations are out the window and rolling down the street. The menu is so uninspired and limited. I know times are tough staff wise, but I don't enjoy hearing about a tip out system that doesn't benefit bartenders who don't even know how to make a Negroni while I'm trying to enjoy my dinner. read more

Lunch in Boulder , Colorado . This was a cute spot in downtown Boulder on Pearl Street. Luckily I made a lunch reservation because it seemed pretty popular with a mix of business and leisure eaters. There is indoor and outdoor patio seating . Service was awesome - our server was very attentive and the food came out quickly which was great since we had a plane to catch . I ordered a Bloody Mary that was pretty ordinary but good. My daughter and I shared the meatball appetizer - it was pretty tasty . The meatballs were served over a breadcrumb polenta giving it an interesting twist . My daughter ordered the spaghetti which had a unique flavored curry type sauce that was good but didn't quite go with spaghetti . I ordered the lemongrass chicken and quinoa salad . The flavor was good but it had too much cabbage that didn't hold on to the dressing making it pretty dry tasting . I could only basically eat the chicken and avocado -everything else was just too crunchy . It's definitely a hip little spot - wish we were in the mood for their doughnuts which looked fabulous ! read more
