Went for my roommates birthday along with his family. Had a great dinner the energy in the restaurant was fun and a little loud but not overwhelming. Food was great I got the chicken and if was of the charts. It was a little bit expensive but I would go again for a special occasion. It's location is great walked on pearl before and after the meal. Service was up to par great experience overall. read more

Oak was fine. Service was good. Food was okay. Definitely not worth the price. My husband did love their drinks (I had green tea). It seems far too hyped up for the flavors their dishes present. It doesn't hold a candle to Mercantile in Denver (Mercantile has to-die-for food and is my gold standard). Go on a weekday...weekends are way too crowded. read more

Was in town for a couple days visiting my old college town. Went to Oak for the mid-day menu. Our server was quite nice, but the kitchen's pacing (or his firing of courses) was slow and noticeably aloof. There were just three four-tops seated at the time (around 3pm on a Saturday) in the entire restaurant, yet the bartender was too busy chipping large balls of ice to pull (not even pour) a can of Coors and glass when his ticket printed. It was seven minutes after ordering before that drink made it to the table. The kitchen was fully staffed and as it is open, we were able to watch a line cook stem and quarter turnips for most of our meal. Preparation is necessary, but perhaps his skills could have expedited the execution of our hamburger and shrimp po' boy. which were not even started until after our appetizer plates were cleared, and then took another fifteen to twenty minutes to hit the table. The atmosphere is pleasant if not a little forced. That said, the disconnected attitudes put out by the bartender and kitchen staff destroyed the ambiance. It was as if they couldn't be bothered by the mid-day clientele. The drink menu is fanciful and involved, but there were no signs that the execution was worthy of the inflated prices. Artisan cocktails are a delight, but they require an attention to detail that wasn't displayed in any aspect of the service or preparation. And skip the homemade sodas. $5 dollars for a 6-7 ounce pour is a joke. An unfunny joke. The fried pickles and accompanying aioli were fantastic, as was the apple and kale salad. The cheeseburger was overdone, and the bamboo spear used to hold it together splintered and broke and a small sliver made it into my mouth. When I told the hostess who cleared the table (not sure where our server was), she didn't seem to care. I told her she might want to inform the kitchen, to which she responded by saying and gesturing exactly nothing in return. A complete lack of customer service skills. Picking bamboo out of your mouth and spitting out chunks of meat in the process is not something anyone should ignore. The shrimp po' boy was seasoned perfectly, and its bun, as well as the hamburger bun were fresh and of the perfect texture for their uses. There is an incredible amount of potential in both the location and BOH staff, but Oak went beyond forgettable and into the realm of aggressively inadequate the day I was in. It's a shame that such neglect was displayed by both the FOH and BOH staff based on what I'm inferring was the time I chose to walk in the door. I think Oak is attempting (unsuccessfully) to present itself as an erudite and classic location for dining without the credentials or tenure to back either claim. read more

Food and drink selection were amazing, and the service was pretty dam good. I just got a really weird vibe from the drink specialist/owner guy with the faux hawk that we weren't "hip, cool, rich, young" enough and got the feeling that we weren't welcome there. (I am 26 with disposable income) One of the reasons I eat out is to have an experience. Wherever it is, whether its a hot dog stand or Eleven Madison Park. Its not just about the food and drink, its about the good feelings I get when im there. I dislike owner/managers like that, especially for a new restaurant in this already over-saturated restaurant town. News flash: You have not been open for a decade. You need a steady flow of new clientele. Be nice to everyone, you never know who they know. Ok, did i get the message across? read more

I was visiting a friend in Boulder and we decided to eat at one of her favorite restaurants. We both ended up ordering the shrimp and grits with an added poached egg on top and a sprinkle of arugula and cilantro. She also ordered a gluten-free French onion soup a-la carte. The shrimp and grits dish was a little rich with lots of butter and cheese but still amazingly delicious. The bite-size/little pieces of the Royal Red Key West shrimp was perfect with the grits, enough to give a nice "crunch" without being overwhelmingly shrimpy. Because the dish was so rich, I would have liked a little more greens to balance out the flavors. The soup was initially served with bread on top but promptly taken back with apologies after realizing the order was requested as gluten-free. And, because they had to remake it, it ended up coming out at the same time as our main dishes. No big deal because it was good- sweet and savory. If I visit Boulder again, I would definitely stop by a second time to try out other things on the menu! read more

Came in with a group of 3 friends on a Sunday for lunch. It was a lovely day outside, but the inside is also very bright and inviting. Everything on the menu sounded good. To start we had oysters on the half shell served with a very fresh tasting tomato shooter. It was almost like a bloody Mary and my friends loved it so much they asked for a regular glass sized version, and the restaurant was happy to oblige. Next up was the chilled English pea soup with Maine lobster. If you don't like peas, pass it up. It was nice and refreshing for a warm day. My only complain was I couldn't find the candied ginger until we got to the bottom. The kale and apple salad was a group favorite. It had a nice sweetness and tang, and I loved the crunch of the almonds. I wish I could learn to make this! It's listed as a large plate, but I think it's best to share rather than have as a meal. Last up were our mains--Although I was a bit apprehensive to get two dishes with grits, the flavors were so different that it didn't matter that they had the same starch. Meatballs with burrata grits. The creamy, melty burrata cheese made the grits so smooth and the tomato sauce was nice. The shrimp and grits were a bit salty, but still quite enjoyable. The shrimp po boy with mango and red cabbage slaw plus homemade tater tots was on the bottom of my list. The po boy was served on a bun, not a baguette ? and the tater tots had a weird seasoning, like too much old bay seasoning? Yuck. Pass. Overall we had a nice experience, they were a bit slow considering that it wasn't busy, but I enjoyed most of my food and loved the atmosphere. I recommend it! read more

The best analogy I can come up with for Oak is this: You know when you have sex, and both partners finish but somehow it just wasn't satisfying? You still feel kind of empty... That's how I felt about Oak. Thank goodness we dined there using a gift certificate! I was really excited to try Oak at Fourteenth, but sadly wasn't impressed. The burrata was served with roasted beets and prosciutto, which yes is a good combination. Sweet, salty, creamy... However, the entire plate was ruined by this horrible bright red sauce reminiscent of Tabasco and these house-made salt and vinegar chips. There was already the saltiness from the delicate prosciutto! And spicy sauce totally doesn't go with any of that. We also ordered the seared yellowfin tuna with honey, mint, cucumber, arugula, and miso crumbs. I was picturing beautiful pieces of fish with a small amount of a cucumber-mint relish, topped with a small amount of the breadcrumbs. I wish that was what was served. Instead it was a big bowl of salad where everything was cut way too big. Huge, thick slices of over-seared fish. Big fishy cucumbers. Large diced chunks of bread with too much miso. It's the first time we didn't finish a dish we served in a restaurant. The ricotta gnocchi with chestnuts, preserved lemon, and wild mushrooms was creamy and decent-tasting, but the chestnuts were way too big and left a chalky texture in your mouth. I just felt that Oak was trying a bit too hard to be like some of the great New American restaurants you find in San Fran, Chicago, or New York (Blackbird in Chicago specifically comes to mind). On a positive note though (!), the fried pickles were fantastic! As was the Monk's Garden (from the cocktail menu). If I go back, it will solely be to order those two. read more

After hearing rave reviews of Oak, I decided to host a brunch for 30 people for a work event. For a control freak like myself- putting my butt on the line at a restaurant I had neither seen nor experienced was a risk, but Melissa and the team at Oak made sure it was perfect. From the food to the service (including some last minute changes!) - everything was top notch. Melissa was excellent with her communication (all via email and phone) and worked with me to create a fantastic seasonal menu. The kale and apple salad is not to be missed. How they get the kale chopped so thin is still a mystery, but it hits the spot. The cinnamon roll is also worth the calories- sinfully delicious, I recommend getting it as a breakfast appetizer. The cherry on the top? A thoughtful note from Melissa and the team post-event. I should be the one expressing gratitude here! read more

Sooooo phenomenal! We had the Housemade Ricotta Cheese & Spring Pea Ravioli w/Grilled Lamb Belly, Mint, Manchego Cheese and the Grilled Peking Duck Breast Forbidden Rice, Duck Cracklings, Pomegranate Molasses, Roasted Turnips. We have both had variations on these meals at various restaurants but Oak On Fourteenth had the most perfectly prepared versions with the most original flavor combinations. This restaurant also has some of my absolute favorite mixology drinks. The perfect summer drink is the Monk's Garden w/Basil & Tarragon Infused Vodka, Green Chartreuse, Cucumber, Lavender, Lime. read more

I declare this the best spot for cocktails in the Mountain West. And I am not kidding. You name the major cocktail bars in NYC (Pegu, Death & Co, PDT, Milk & Honey, Counting Room, etc) and Oak will compete with any of them... it's truly a top notch destination and certainly home to the best cocktails in Denver, Boulder, and beyond. I highly recommend just picking a spirit and letting Bryan do his magic... This is a MUST STOP! Seriously, visit this place and imbibe... it's magic. read more

In my ongoing quest of hitting all of the Top 25's (according to 5280's list), I was able to have a business lunch at Oak at Fourteenth with several coworkers. For appetizers, we ordered and shared the posole, chicken liver pate, and fried pickles. The posole was decent, but nothing special, and the green aioli that came with the fried pickles was pretty tasty. However, the chicken pate was some of the best that I've ever had, complemented well by the sauce that came with it (which was a fruity jam/preserve). For my lunch entree, I had the lamb sandwich. The lamb was sliced thin and then stacked onto the bun, much like the way lamb is in a gyro. The meat works well with red pepper and feta. It was good, but nothing to write home about. For dessert, we split a budino and apple crisp. The apple crisp dessert was plated very well. However, neither dessert was particularly memorable nor unique (besides the presentation). The service was slow, even though the restaurant was pretty empty (we had a late lunch on a Tuesday, so there were only a couple of other tables that were occupied). Another ding on the service was that the waiter dropped my credit card when he was returning with the check, and I had to ask the hostess and several other waiters to look for it. After 10 minutes of searching, they found it under a table (presumably after falling off and ricocheting). The disappointing part of this was that the server never noticed that my card was missing (I was the person paying and so there was only 1 card total) and I was the person who had to initiate the search. I gave Oak at Fourteenth three stars because I don't believe it lives up to the hype; nor should it be ranked as high as it is on the Top 25 list. There are many restaurants not on the Top 25 list that blow it away. All of the food was good to decent, but none of it was outstanding (besides the pate); which is unfortunately not good enough for a restaurant that's rated this highly. I believe that every restaurant on a Top 25 list should leave you wowed when you're walking out the door. read more

Yes we are very very happy about this. Oak at fourteenth just opened. The overall decor is sparse up top, nice wood below, a warm feeling emanating from the oven and open kitchen. Women are comfortable in sleeveless dresses and congregate in large groups at tables by the glass wall facing the street. There is an air of sophistication in the service which is expected, given the pedigree of the owners. It's also perhaps contrasting with the feeling set by energized music and modest prices. From the look of the place, I would have expected everything to be a few dollars more, but that's one aspect where casual attitude is well appreciated. First up, the reason why we were here -- cocktails. No my wife does not want the fruity vodka drinks, but thanks to the waiter for attempting a recommendation. It's irksome in a stereotypical kind of way, but I think she secretly enjoys the compliment. Anyways, she ordered a santa ana sunrise (a tequila sour with St Germain and agave subbed for simple syrup), tasty and refreshing, and I had a Manhattan that can be summed up in a word -- proper. Now the other reason -- Bone marrow. I've had bone marrow more than once; this was by far the best. It was topped with caviar and served with a tart side salad that made the marrow feel less like an outlandish stick of beef butter and more like a good idea. A great idea in fact, perfectly balanced and delicious. We also had the fried pickles with green goddess aioli. I ate them with my fingers. I mean really, despite the slight confusion (is this place casual, is it fancy?), it's fried pickles, come on! They did not last long. Next we had the Tataki. To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of seared tuna, and would have preferred raw tuna, but the menu did say seared, and seared it was. I've never heard of Tataki before, so maybe that's just the way it is. For larger plates we also got the tuna dish, which again, could have been rawer. To be fair, we did ask for it as raw as possible, and it was fine, just not a favorite. Perhaps our fault for ordering seared tuna twice. We also got the shortrib and oxtail "cannelloni". The meat was delicately held into a roll by a thin savory wrapper -- is that cheese? These things were amazing. The inside was luscious and sweet, balanced by a horseradish vinaigrette. I will be hard pressed to order something different next time I go here. For dessert we had the fresh fruit ginger cobbler. This evening it was apple, served in its own cast iron skillet and with a balancing (there's that word again) tart oval of frozen dairy (yogurt?) on top, very reminiscent of Frasca. Putting ginger in the name may have been its only mistake, as that flavor did not come through. Otherwise, I would have been entirely happy with this as dessert. To pair, I just asked for a dessert cocktail, and here is where Bryan truly shined with creativity and skill. I forget exactly what went in it (did I mention there was wine with the food? well there was), but there was rye and more than one other trick to make a perfect drink, and I use that phrase sparingly. Nice hand-chipped piece of ice, too. To end the evening, we passed a blind tequila tasting quiz (informative) and were rewarded with a dash of Amer Picon, yes the real deal folks. Thanks again Bryan. This place pulls off an interesting balancing act in many respects, and probably the most important being the flavors in the food and drink. It was all very well designed, and nearly unanimously delicious. Early reports were that Oak would stay open later. I hope that comes true. Currently they stop service at 10 -- can you imagine how great it would be to come here for a nibble and a cocktail at 12:30? Now there's some balance Boulder desperately needs. read more

Been here several times, typically for lunch. Can't go wrong with their kale salad, pretty awesome and consistent. For lunch; burger is great, especially with their root beer. Also, ramen is delicious. For dinner start with the squash toast and meatballs and then the chicken dinner is probably best chicken I've ever had. Ambience is perfect, def make reservation as it's always busy. read more

Oak at Fourteenth - New American Near Me - Boulder, Colorado

We had a wonderful, leisurely lunch here for our anniversary. My husband had the pate and the lamb sandwich. The sandwich he thought was delicious and tender. He liked his pate but found it low on the liver/ traditional pate taste. This, explained by our waiter, is because the chef doesn't actually like pate and went lighter on the livery pate taste. So, it was not at all bad, but probably better if you were expecting traditional pate. We also had fried pickles to start which were solid if nothing too memorable. The provided sourdough took a bit to come out and I had to ask for it, but it was in house made and so fresh and soft. My entree was the lemongrass chicken with quinoa salad. I don't like cabbage, the basis, so they subbed arugula which was a great option. I would have been interested in the caeser instead of a sub, but that basis had brussel sprouts, and that's another no go for me. So, experience wise, service was a little slow at times and it seemed that our waiter may have had more tables than he needed. Though, he was very nice and knowledgeable and accommodating. The atmosphere was bright and airy, though I was cold and wearing my jacket as were other patrons i noticed for most of the meal without anyone in the place acknowledging that strangely. The food was delicious and interesting. I think we'd go back! read more

I'll start by saying I don't enjoy giving bad reviews. I truly hate to do this but geesh, quite the misunderstanding at the table and Very awkward.. Not to get too into it but there was a situation where the waitress made it seem like she wanted to bring out another drink since a friend hadn't drank hers. She literally said "oh you didn't like it,? Please let me bring out another." Excitedly we reply, "sounds great". Then the bill comes out and it's on there. Another $30 drink because they make you order 2 drinks at a time(2 drinks $60) as if it's somehow cleaner to make 2 drinks rather than 1(COVID).. We attempted to discuss this with her but she said that management wouldn't allow her to remove the drink from the bill. It's too bad because the food was delicious but I guess the mandatory 24% tip has the staff not caring too much about the service.. we really could have enjoyed this restaurant read more

Honestly, didn't enjoy the place at all. Drinks were mediocre and the bartender was rude, aloof, and venting waaaaaaaay too much about her personal life. I don't care that you're essentially dating your replacement dad...I'm not a therapist. Besides, isn't a bartender supposed to be the one listening to depressed patrons bemoaning their poor lives, not explaining her own? Over-priced and unimpressive, but I didn't eat there. Who knows, maybe that would make it bearable. With all the great options in Boulder, I'd rather go elsewhere. The Kitchen and Bramble & Hare have phenomenal drinks, and are close by. With all that said, I should try table seating before I completely write this place off my list. Until then, I don't recommend sitting at the bar unless they've changed staff. read more

This place was more than just OAK-kay. It was great. I don't STICK a five star rating to a restaurant that often, but I had to give it up here. I loved everything I had. I WOOD definitely come back, again and again. In fact, as I sit here right now, I am PINING to go back. When the meal was done, I didn't want to LEAF the table. I knew that as soon as I had proper Internet access, I would LOG on to Yelp to write a review. I had a sweet potato soup that tasted kind of like baby food, but in a good way. There was a silly toasted marshmallow at the bottom of the bowl that was a bit pretentious but tasted good enough that it didn't SPLINTER my opinion. For my main course, I had the kale and apple salad, with added chicken - it was ASH good as a kale salad gets. So, why five stars? Great vibe. I loved the ambiance, the service, and the decor. Modern, but with lots of wood influences. Leaf imagery everywhere. I really loved it. Even the bathrooms were well appointed. Good job, decor guy. NAILED it. It was my first time to Boulder, and this made me love it right away. I had been wanting to come here FIR a long time, so I was glad we made the trek over from Denver. You'd be WALNUTS not to try Oak if you are ever in the area. Probably a little on the pricey side, but it's worth the PAPER. What a TREEt. read more

I went a number of times to the 14th Street Grill so I thought I would give the Oak since it took over the space. What you first notice about the restaurant is that it has a nice intimate ambiance. The staff is very polite and attentive. Our waiter was tremendous. The menus were brought and what I noticed were the high prices. Wine by the glass is around $15. Appetizers are on average $15. The main dishes close to $30. Steak for two is $87. So I decided on a couple of appetizers and my wife the short ribs. What she got was a big plate and a very small portion of meat. She was still hungry. The food was good but not so good to justify the prices. To be sated at this place, you have to order a couple of appetizers and the main dish as well as desert. With wine and tip you are looking at $100 a piece. Kinda makes me want to stay at home and cook. read more

Oak at Fourteenth was a truly great dining experience! The only time we could get a reservation for the Friday we were staying Boulder to celebrate our wedding anniversary was 8:00 PM. Took it! And what was really nice is that our table was ready earlier and the hostess called me to let me know so we were able to sit earlier. The service was impeccable! Jason knew the dishes inside and out and also the whiskey behind the Manhattans/ice. Cool story. We also enjoyed the shredded kale salad and the Ribeye dinner for 2 which was HUGE. Made for fabulous leftovers! Great dining experience and thank for for the complimentary champagne in honor of our anniversary! read more

5 stars for my first visit. Lunch. + Kale & Apple Salad. It was so good, I wanted to order another one. I was craving it for weeks afterward. + Braised Meatballs & Grits. Again, so delicious. Again, craving it for weeks afterward. I even tried to recreate it at home, and it was NOT the same. + Our server was attentive and very kind to my friend's young son who was eating with us. + Fried pickles were delicious 2 stars for my second visit. Lunch. - Kale & Apple salad with the addition of chicken. I think the chicken had gone bad or something. It was so rubbery it didn't seem like it was grilled- it seemed like they cooked it in the microwave, no joke. I took one bite of the chicken and spit it into my napkin. My friend (same one from my first visit) tasted the chicken and said it tasted like "reheated bottom-of-the-freezer chicken". She described it perfectly. The server came over and asked how everything was and my friend mentioned that the burger was good, but the chicken was "not what we were expecting". The server kind of shrugged it off and didn't offer to take it away or replace it. + The burger my friend ordered was flavorful and nicely cooked. +/- Our server was nice enough, but we were still charged full price for the salad and the addition of the disgusting chicken. If servers in Boulder were a little more attentive that would be awesome. When someone leaves their plate completely untouched it shouldn't go unnoticed or unquestioned. Especially since we mentioned it in a roundabout way earlier in the meal. Oak is a nice spot for lunch or a glass of wine, but after my last visit I'm not dying to return anytime soon. read more

Every year the bf and I make a list of restaurants we'd like to try in the Denver/Boulder area and hit up one a month. Oak at Fourteenth was on the list. We came in on a Monday evening, it was hard to get in on a weekend day, the place as fairly full for a weeknight. We started at the bar, we had been told that the bartender was really good, and he didn't disappoint with the bfs old fashioned. My wine was also a great choice. On to the table and the food. We started with the chicken apple sausage dumplings (eh) and the pork bell (omg...amazing!) we both opted for the sparerib which we AMAZING the grits and the meat combo was awesome, melt in your mouth deliciousness. I couldn't even finish mine it was so rich. On to dessert, I thought we were ordering bread pudding, but it turned out to be some sort of deconstructed dish with bread and pudding. Ick. Overall the night was good, I will rave about the spare rib for a long time, but I can't see much else that would bring us back. I felt like the whole experience was missing that little extra spark that would push it over the edge. read more

This is, hands down, my favorite restaurant in Boulder. I had heard about the delicious and creative cocktails at this place from a few friends- and I certainly wasn't let down! Between my husband and I, we tried four different drinks (the Chautauqua Cobbler is a MUST). The food was equally as impressive. I know that a lot of people steer away from ordering chicken when they dine out, but I kind of see it as a "test" of a good restaurant. If they can make chicken seem out of this world, they're doing something right- and Oak at 14th is DEFINITELY doing A LOT of things right. read more

OAK IS WONDERFUL! We stopped here by chance and were so pleasantly surprised. The cocktails were creative and delicious. The food was outstanding and had a lot of unique pairings that you would not see at many other places. The service was really good and the atmosphere is clean, hip and comforting. We had the roasted peppers with ham and a red pepper sauce- they were amazing. They were roasted perfectly and were a bit spicy, but so flavorful. The scallops with pork belly and creamed corn was a perfect combination. I want to bathe in that creamed corn. :) The fried green tomatoes with Tuna tartar and yuzu guacamole was a creative dish that went together very well despite being such disparate flavor profiles. The short ribs were fall off the bone tender and of course, the fried pickles were great. This is definitely one of my new favorites! read more

After ordering an extensive amount of food and drink we were forced to give up our table before we had finished our meals! Small plates, shared plates and large plates comprise the menu at this nouveau fine dining American restaurant located just outside the heart of Pearl Street. We all selected the Hamachi Crudo as our favorite. It's a blend of sweet and spicy, with fresh sashimi grade fish. We ordered two for our table of four. We also loved the meatballs, burrata cheese, and seared tuna small plates. The calamari was skippable, though the jamon iberico on it was delectable (there just wasn't enough of it to save the dish). Decent wine list, but the cocktails and desserts were lackluster. We ordered the chocolate decadence dessert, which was lacking in chocolate flavor (and decadence). The mint chip ice cream on top had a unique pot-like flavor- wonder if that has anything to do with the recent legalization. The atmosphere was perfect for the four of us. It was classy but not stuffy, well lit and not too loud or too quiet. And the service was fantastic. Food - 4 Atmosphere - 4 Service - 5 read more

This place is a Boulder gem. If you're looking for a more casual (and slightly cheaper) experience, try the late-night menu, which runs from 10pm to midnight Thurs-Sat. It's hard for me to pick a favorite but easy for me to say this is one of the top three restaurants in Boulder. I love the fried pickles and fried tomatoes and I always order the ramen bowl and pork bun (though it's tough to compare the latter two to Momofuku's in NYC). This place runs an excellent bar with delicious cocktails that come out right every time. If you're visiting Boulder you definitely need to check this place out. Be sure to try their meats, I'm assuming you'll smell their house smoker as you walk around town. You definitely won't be disappointed by what they're smoking! read more

Ate at Oak last night for dinner with my wife and another couple. I went with high expectations and the Oak did not disappoint. This place has been open less than a month and was firing on all cylinders. We started with shared plates of fried pickles - large dill chips rough fried with a cleansing basil aioli, marrow and caviar - a light smoky flavor, pate' crostini - light yet rich, oven fired brussel sprouts - earthy flavor with a hint of citrus from the bread crumbs, meatball sliders - sweetness from the bread ending with some heat at the end, and crispy rock shrimp - tempura style with an herby sweetness. Our main courses consisted of braised short rib and oxtail cannelloni - tender meat wrapped in pasta with a sweet vinaigrette, ricotta gnuddi - rich and sweet cheese version of gnocchi served with local beets, whole striped bass - simply cooked with lemon and herbs, and rib eye - perfectly cooked medium rare. Although our table could not come to an agreement as to the best dish, We did agree the Oak nailed it! We tried 4 desserts root beer float - Tommy Knocker root beer and ice cream layered with brownie bites, orange cheesecake - nice variation with strong lemon and ricotta presence, oven baked apple and quince cobbler- served in a cast iron skillet, and chocolate custard. Much to our surprise the root beer float was the winner here. While the rest of my group enjoyed a variety of cocktails, I do not drink alcohol. What a refreshing experience to have a restaurant take the time to create and offer non alcoholic cocktails. I tried the house made ginger beer, cucumber - mint soda, and the blood orange basil soda. Each were unique and flavorful, but the blood orange and mint soda stood above the rest. A restaurant cannot stand on food alone and the Oak has service to back the food. I had an incredible experience and can't wait to return. read more

Oak is amazing! My husband and I love it!! Go and sit at the bar and enjoy the amazing menu and delicious cocktails!

Great restaurant all around. Food was very modern and the oak fire they cook in was a great addition. Every course was great!

Pretty pricey but they deliver the goods. Get the korean shared chicken if they have it on the menu still

Went last night for the first time since the fire and I have to say that this is now my favorite restaurant in Boulder. It's truly a no compromise dining experience. I had the bone marrow and corn bread/blue cheese appetizers first and both were superb. The blue cheese on the cornbread, which I admit sounds weird, was a goat cheese and really creamy and delicious. Similarly, the bone marrow was an excellent bone and the caviar on top was the perfect compliment. Having everything cooked in the wood oven really adds an interesting flavor to the breads. My korean BBQ short ribs were equally excellent. They were served on squash with beef jerky on top (again, sounds weird but really works with the dish). A friend had recommended this to me and it lived up the hype. Lastly, the wine list and overall service was excellent. The waitstaff really works as a team and was very personable without sacrificing professionalism. Service can definitely be hit and miss in Boulder but I think Oak has a good system in place. Overall, this place is great food at a good value and is just adventurous enough while still being a great hearty meal. read more

Not their best effort tonight. Made reservations for tonight at 7:15 and also made sure to let them know it was my wife's birthday and that she has a gluten allergy. As we were being seated, the hostess acknowledged that this was for her birthday and the gluten issue, however the waitress didn't know what items had gluten in them. We both ordered the butter lettuce salad, both were underdressed, and had crumbled bland pita chips on top. I also ordered the pork chop, my wife ordered the chicken. Both entrees tasted pretty good, but both were topped with a "spring mix" which was some sort of dry, wilted greens with no dressing at all that definitely detracted from the dish. When we finished, the waitress brought out the dessert menu which we declined. Thought perhaps there would be a small birthday gesture but that didn't happen either. With all the other great restaurants up in Boulder to choose from they need to keep their game up - which they definitely did not tonight. read more

Still lovin' this place and was especially happy to find out that they even serve you if you grab a seat at the little tiny bar near the front entrance. It was busy & hot near the back bar and so we were happy to find a cooler area to sit and even have a window view. The meatballs were crazy good again although I'd steer clear from the Roaring 40's blue cheese stuffed dates. They are large and the dates were too sweet for me - even with the blue cheese. If you are a huge date fan, then these might be for you. read more

After perusing menu's on Pearl St. we were most captivated of all the menus by the offerings at Oak at Fourteenth. Not to mention, the restaurant was incredible eloquent from the open kitchen to the Oak panels and long extended bar. We were tucked away in a corner by the window allowing for a great view of 14th and Pearl to keep us entertained from time to time. Upon entering, we were strongly enticed by the homemade donuts sitting by the host stand, kind of like freshly baked bread strategically placed by the register at the grocery. I settled on the Honeycrisp apple and kale salad while my companion selected the daily special of house made chicken and apple sausage dumplings. Both were outstanding and talk about seasonal cuisine. Incredible flavors and textures in the kale salad attributed by the candied almonds, parmesan, and togarashi and enhanced by the addition of chicken for the added protein. One of the best salads I've ever had and for sure something satisfying that I could enjoy every day with no guilt. The chicken dumplings ordered by my companion brought three giant sized dumplings set in an immensely flavorful wild mushroom and chestnut broth. Delicious as well! Even with so many restaurants in Boulder still to try, I am still steadfast on returning to Oak based solely on this one time all around experience. read more

I've been meaning to try this place since we moved here a few months ago... It was just my fiancé and I otherwise I think getting a table on a Friday would be very difficult. Since I'm six months pregnant finding something to drink on a delicious drink menu is typically disappointing. BUT our waitress suggested the passion fruit & lemongrass house made soda. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water....and I'm just talking about soda..its THAT good. Food:: We started with two small plates, Tomato Braised Meatballs & Burrata Cheese on top Anson Mills Grits and Royal Red Shrimp & Potato Gnocchi, Ancho Chili Butter. Both were pretty good but nothing spectacular. We split the Shaved Honeycrisp Apple & Kale Salad, Parmesan, Togarashi, Candied Almonds. This salad was incredible. it was like eating a Mojito. Which makes no sense because its not listed as such but maybe there were sprinkles of mint in there, either way it was totally one of my favorite dishes. We each got a large plate, Wood Oven Roasted Rocky Junior Chicken, served with asparagus, mushrooms and spring garlic & gruyere panzanella. And I had one of there revolving steak items that is ever changing on the menu. Both were delicious and we ended up with leftovers. We'll go back and try more items on the menu since I still feel like I haven't found that one thing on the menu, OTHER THAN THE SODA, that speaks to me. Or I'll go and just drink soda until I have this baby. Would totally suggest going here to any one...local or visiting. read more
