What a great experience! The manager, Charles, was welcoming and accommodating. He seated us himself and took his time with us, chatting and getting drinks. Their service is top-notch and the waitstaff attentive and well-versed. The drinks are excellent! I told the bartender to make us whatever she wanted and man, was it good! I definitely recommend telling her to make whatever she would like to! The food.... oh the food! Excellently prepared and presented! We ordered a ton of their small plates and one medium one. That is definitely the way to go here! Please, please, please don't overlook Oak. You will be doing yourself a terrible injustice. read more

We just read an article about Oak's chef's notoriety and some prestigious awards he's in the running for which compelled us to check this place out. Let me just say, we concur with all big shot critics- this cuisine will blow your mind! We put our name in as walk-ins around 6:30 on a Saturday and the sweet hostesses were able to get us in about 30 min. later though the predicted wait was 1.5 hours. Even if we had to wait that long, it'd be fine because you can always walk along the pearl street shops and the restaurant will text you when they're ready. Apart from the beautiful arbor & industrial decor and open kitchen, we loved the drinks and complimentary sourdough while we waited! I had a Mexican cocktail with chili oil on top which was amazing, and my husband had the red house wine. But the BEST part of the experience was the main courses. Though all the small plates looked great, we decided to go with the seasonal pan seared scallops risotto and it was delightful! But the ROTISSERIE CHICKEN IS THE STUFF OF LEGENDS. The chicken is so juicy, and the butternut squash gnocchi, balsamic Brussel sprouts, and hazelnuts that accompany it are absolutely perfect! Could not say more wonderful things! Would always come back when we're going to celebrate something in Boulder! read more

We had a really nice lunch a few weeks back. I had the grilled cheese while my wife had the burger and daughter had the po-boy. They were all very tasty (though the grilled cheese could've used a bit more spice, salt or both). The drinks were fun including the non-alcoholic ones (the secret handshake for me and homemade sodas for them). We weren't going to try to take the delicious donut down but we will be back for that at some point. read more

We stumbled on Oak, while enjoying the pedestrian street of shops. We took seats along the open kitchen, watching the magic happen. There was also a row of doughnuts that were lined along the counter. They looked delicious. Our server Zach was friendly and knowledgable. He helped us with the local draft beer selections. We ordered the French Dip Sandwich and the Lamb Shwarma Sandwich. The lamb was really good - flavorful and moist, but the French Dip was outstanding! The meat was not dry, even without the dip. Also, very flavorful, without it being salty. The bread had the perfect texture of crunch on the outside and chewy, soak up the jus inside. Next time, I'm getting the French Dip, too! We ended up passing on the doughnut, as the flavor special was peppermint, and just personally not my thing. read more

Restaurant was okay. The rolls and shaved kale salad were awesome starters, but the pork chop was a little over cooked and they brought us an incorrect (younger) vintage vs what was advertised on the menu. We pointed it out after we realized it but nothing was offered other than "our menu had a misprint". Overall we enjoyed the meal but expect way more for a dinner from a place like this. read more

On a recent business trip to Denver, I came here for dinner and solo-dined at the bar. I wish I had been with more people so that I could have tried more things, but c'est la vie. I was stuck at the bar between two couples celebrating Valentine's Day, which was a little weird and felt like a fifth wheel, but at least the chef's counter had a view of the open kitchen, so I could distract myself by watching them prepare the food, and the rest of the time, I spent on my phone or reading awkwardly between the 2 couples. The food was really good, and there were a lot of different options to choose from. I opted for 2 small plates, which was enough food for me, since the kale salad was a pretty generous size. I probably could have eaten just the salad by itself for my meal and been fine, but I wanted to try more from the menu. If you like a good, hearty, healthy salad with lots of flavor -- because delicious and healthy all in one is the best -- don't miss out on the kale & apple salad. It has shredded kale, shredded apple, grana padano, candied almonds, all with a lemony dressing in a bowl. It's probably in my top 10 salads I've had, and I would go out of my way to come here to get this salad again. At $12, it's reasonably priced for how much salad you get. For my second small plate, I went with the lamb bolognese with mint tagliatelle, for $15, which to be honest, I could have passed on. Maybe the flavor of the lamb wasn't particularly my taste, or mint pasta is a little on the strange side. It was fine, but I wouldn't order this again for myself if I came back. They have a variety of small plates, and for the large dishes, they had chicken, fish, pork, pasta and probably other things that rotate in seasonally. I love farm-to-table dining, and would definitely come back here again - hopefully with more dining companions, so that I can try more things. Reasonable prices for the dishes, good quality of food, nice ambiance and service. read more

My wife and I recently went to Colorado for a vacation. On our last night in Boulder, we had attempted to eat at another restaurant and gave up after some particularly foul appetizers, then walked down Pearl St. looking for a place. We happened on Oak and got a table outside. My wife spotted someone having their in-house made spaghetti and just upon seeing it, we knew we had to get it. We ended up ordering a couple of appetizers and then splitting an order of the spaghetti. It was amazing. Pasta was cooked just right, the pomodoro sauce light and flavorful, and the sausage with calabrian chiles providing a solid hit of savoriness with some heat. As I ate mine, all the flavors started melding into this great balance of textures and flavors. Honestly, one of the best pasta dishes I've had outside of Italy. Service was also fantastic. Attentive enough that we were never left waiting, but also left alone when we didn't need something. It was good enough that at the end of our vacation, we ended up driving back to Boulder from Denver to have it again. The second trip was on a Thursday rather than a Friday, and I have a feeling we got the B team when it came to service, as it was not as good as our initial Friday night trip, but still very good. Easily the best meal we had in Boulder, and a few weeks later I'm still thinking about that spaghetti. read more

So glad we were able to get a prime spot in front of the kitchen for dinner here while visiting the city. Some of the most creative and beautifully plated dishes full of flavor and unique combinations. An impressive wine and Cocktail list (we skipped the $900 bottles and opted for some glasses of white) as well as flights of spirits. We had some incredible cuts of sashimi as well as the best octopus dish I've ever had. Lamb ravioli was melt in your mouth. Every waiter and cook was professional and polite. read more

We made a meal of appetizers. Or, rather, we ordered a bunch of appetizers and our server organized the mess into a three-course meal. Key points: - Fig spread toast with I don't know on it. Magic spread? It was delicious. - Beet and peach and I don't know cold soup. Should have ordered more. - Beet and greens and burrata lined up in a row on a plate and gone in about 12 seconds salad. Another great combination of flavors. - They also have good coffee. - The bone marrow, sadly, was a disappointment. Rather than being salty goodness, it had some sort of sour, stifling relish on it that overpowered the flavor of the marrow (in the way that a car tire would overpower an ant). But, I won't subtract a star for that given everything else. read more

Oak NEVER disappoints. So solid. Lunch today was better than ever. The Kale salad is a standard, must at Oak. We (a few girlfriends) dined family style today. Ordered the Kale with shrimp and a new lemongrass chicken and quinoa salad that is SO SO good! I loved the mint! Also had the meatballs. Started with those yummy fried pickles and pate. Amazing service. I could visit Oak every day. read more

I love this place! Went here for dinner with a friend. Oak had a very cool, artisan, farm fresh ambience. The decor is all glossy wood (is it made from oak?!!) and warm lighting (perfect for Instagram btw!), and the waitstaff uniform is crisp white tops with stylish dark jeans. The ambience definitely sets the mood for the food, which is unquestionably delicious. I got the hamachi crudo and the grits with mozzarella and meatballs, which were actually two items off the appetizer menu, as well as a strawberry panne cotta for dessert. My friend got a steak entree and the salted caramel dessert, which I also got to try. All of it was divine! The hamachi crudo was a fresh bite, with a springy, tangy yuzu sauce. The grits were very hearty - that plate definitely did a number on my stomach, but in the best possible way. The dessert was the best part, with lavender-infused, crumbly shortbread cookies being the perfect accompaniment to the tangy strawberry compote and the cold, creamy panna cotta. My friend's salted caramel thing was to die for as well! This place is pretty pricey, but it's definitely worth it to go on a special occasion, or if you just want to treat yo'self. read more

How could lunch be so good?! Well try the fried chicken Caesar salad with fennel with it's delicious creamy and perfectly tangy dressing and your dreams have come true!!! Nice restaurant with good food. The dishes were solid. Simply prepared with fresh, local ingredients. Very Good, but nothing on the menu blew me away (in terms of culinary flavors or creativity). Also, service was friendly but slow and a little confused (a lot of young waiters who meant well but maybe could use some more training). Overall, I would recommend if in Boulder (not a destination in and of itself). read more

Oak is in the top tier of restaurants we have experienced in boulder. On par with the likes of Black Cat, their very fresh and farm to table menu has something for everyone. Fried pickles a must for any true pickle or fried item fan. It's almost a tempura style fry, hands down best fried picks of any high or low end restaurant we've been to. Waygu tartare... Phenomenal, almost like a beef ceviche. Even those less experienced with raw meat could fall in love with this one. Shrimp and grits very very good. Rich and filling for before a meal but undeniably good. The steak, my dish, was cooked perfectly and of an appropriate portion. The onions served with it were also perfectly crisp and cooked just right. The halibut with other seafood goodies was also excellent. Clams and calamari were not overdone as one typically expects with such preparations. The fish was lightly browned and tasted fresh. Also a good portion with many clams and calamari to compliment the fish. We sat outside at the bar and enjoyed conversation with fellow diners. The waitstaff was excellent. Jason from Virginia was our server and he took great care of us, sharing some good recommendations and reaffirming all of our choices. For light fare or full blown date night this joint is absolutely on the must list. read more

Expensive as stated but well worth it. Everything from the food to the atmosphere is great. You really do get what you pay for.

The main dining room is a warm and inviting space. My old fashioned cocktail was excellent and balanced. The food was stood up to the reputation of this restaurant. For apps, we ordered the Smoked Hamachi Pork Belly and Meatballs. Highly recommended though I would say to share. Portions are huge. For entrees, the halibut was well seasoned, moist and garnished with fresh vegetables and herbs. Beans were not my favorite accompaniment for the dish. The pork tenderloin was another beautifully assembled dish. Loved the contrasting savory, sweet flavors. Would return again when we come back to a Boulder. read more

Really nice ambiance. Fantastic panoramic windows bring the outside in. I love the feel of this place. The 3 of us selected signature cocktails from their creative cocktail menu. I had the "Backseat Navigator " and loved it. Not as sweet as I expected. Then a couple of appetizers: clams and chorizo and also rock shrimp. The portions were small, but the combinations were amazing for sure. Then we all 3 split the "Striped Bass Hominy Sopapillas" entree that was perfectly cooked and another great combination. Can't wait to go back, however, gotta save up as this was pretty expensive! read more

Not sure what everyone is raving about. Went to celebrate my son's birthday and was very disappointed. Two of us got the pork chop which was tasty but half of it was fatty and inedible. The cavatelli sounded delicious on the menu but was overly salty and too much garlic. The appetizers were better than the entrees, but definitely not exceptional. The service was painfully slow although our waitress was very sweet so no blame to her. We didn't bother w/dessert. It was a painful $300 meal for not good food or service. read more

So it was late and I really wanted some tea. I walked around and saw this place was bustling so I figured it could not be bad. The tea here was top notch. They steep the tea leaves in those little personal kettle. I felt like I was at a nice tea house that served Mac and cheese with bacon. My eyes said yippee, my stomach did somersaults with joy. The Mac and cheese had good thick bacon and was so creamy. It was quality in a small cast iron pan. You have to give them the cuteness award. My friend had the meatball and Moscow mule which looked interesting and tasted even better then they looked. The meatball was presented like spaghetti and meatballs without the noodles. There was great red sauce and different types of cheese. Shoot it's like lasagna without the noodles. It's like something. The service was impeccable. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were attentive and explained all the cocktail while managing a busy bar and restaurant. I will definitely be back again to explore the rest of the menu. read more

This is a very special place in very special city. It was a special trip to Boulder for me and my Father, we were celebrating his birthday. Two standouts in Boulder were our hotel (see my review for St. Julien's) and Oak at Fourteenth. Before I gush about the food, the atmosphere deserves a special mention. The place is buzzing with the see and be seen crowd. We started with the Hamachi Crudo. So delicious and fresh. The fish is accented with green curry, avocado, crispy rice and grapefruit. A real standout. Next up, the Colorado Lamb Bolognese. Honestly, I could just eat this for my meal. Housemade tagliatelle smothered in tomato sauce, grand padano cheese and citrus rosemary bread crumbs. The pasta was cooked perfectly and has a rustic feel. But the star of the meal is the wood grilled bone in ribeye. The platter, so stunning our dining neighbors were drooling (Seriously, we offered four people a taste). The stunning meat comes with blue cheese butter and crispy potatoes. This serves two and very likely could be a main course for four. The ribeye takes a little extra time, so order a couple of starters, a couple of cocktails (I suggest the Oak Martini) and take in the whole experience. You won't be disappointed. read more

My wife and i have been to Oak many many times.. some of the visits were out of this world.. the others.. not so much. I think we've been here at least 4 times for our wedding anniversary and this past visit was for that. first lets start with my stuff i started with the Tomato Braised meatballs. which were OUT OF THIS WORLD omg the stracciatella cheese makes it so creamy and good .. i could have ordered 2 helpings of this i would have been good. then i got the Oak Grilled Hanger Steak which was VERY good but they didn't give you alot so it was good i got the small plate. next is my wifes stuff. she is allergic to dairy. the problem here is 90% of the stuff she wanted on the meny has some sort of dairy in it. which made it very difficult for her to pick stuff. I must give credit to our waiter. he really tried to find something that she could eat. unfortunately all she could eat was a modified version of the Kale salad she also got the Hanger steak now she said everything was VERY GOOD. the problem. we spent about 130.00 (NO ALCOHOL!) and she left still STARVING. I was full but not FULL like i normally am leaving after paying over 100.00 for a meal........now again i want to stress we both thought the flavors and everything we got was delicious.. but when you spend that much money you do not want to leave hungry. we are a tad disappointed as OAK is one of our favorite restaurants but will now be very weary of the menu and everything else. read more

I enjoyed a lovely business lunch with my colleagues here. The restaurant has a rustic, fresh, farm to table vibe. I loved the open glass windows that brought in great lighting and a view of Pearl Street. The Quail was absolutely delicious. Full of quality flavor. It was a light serving, as were all of the entrees that my colleagues ordered. I would caution that these aren't hearty portions if you're looking for a heavier meal. I actually would have ordered a side if the others had! The daily donut display was a cute idea and quiet enticing as they are unavoidable upon entry. The Pineapple upside down cake was excellent! The perfect light post meal dessert. Overall, classy environment, quality (not quantity) type food. I would return again. read more

So...had a really odd experience here. Disclaimer: involves blood. Thoroughly enjoying our appetizer, and all of a sudden my dining partner looks at me with a very confused look and holds up his finger, which is...bleeding. He realizes that he has cut his finger on metallic flakes that are coming off of the legs of the chairs. No, really--that's a thing. We alerted a server, who runs off to find what I'm assuming was a manager. The manager comes over and says, "I heard you got a--" stops when she sees the napkin he's been using, obviously a little surprised by the amount of blood. She runs off and gets him a band-aid and we wipe the blood off the floor. Cool. Part 1 drama ends. I'd like to pause here and say: Totally know that this is not the restaurant's fault. They did not intentionally purchase evil chairs designed to physically harm their customers. Ok, moving on. Entrees come (also thoroughly enjoying--look guys, the food is good). My dining partner chomps down on an olive pit midway through the meal and almost breaks his tooth (at this point I'm just laughing at him...because really?) We alert the server and he quickly scoops the pit off the table, apologizes and says he will let the chef know. After incident #2 I'm thinking...ok, our nice dinner out has now gone south. We finished our meal and paid the bill. Nothing further was said by any of the staff or management. It was hard not to feel a bit disregarded as we left. A restaurant's ability to acknowledge a less than stellar experience makes a big difference on whether I'd want to come back, and in this case I really don't. Nothing showed us that they cared too much about our overall experience. Replace your chairs, watch your pits, and customers...if you're one for bad luck maybe go somewhere else. read more
