So many better options around than this place, STAY AWAY!! The owner Nuri is incredibly rude, seems to run the business more as a hobby than an actual professional service. Time management is an absolute joke, I.e. expect to come back several times as she has no idea when something may be ready or an alteration actually completed. If you do get lucky enough to finally get your item back after weeks of waiting, rest assured the joy is short lived, once to see how terrible the workmanship is and how high the price. Title: She Doesn't Want New Business I stopped by this business because I've had some customer tailoring needs for years and wanted to get a start on finding one, while I waited for my oil change to be finishing at the Auto Haus next door. The door states that this location opens at 8am on Saturday's. I walked in at 10am and politely asked the elder woman working "Do you have some time to answer a few general questions about an alteration?" The way she responded with "For what?" Was beyond rude and I immediately had to leave. I cannot stand disrespect from what are supposed to be professional establishments. Just picked up my comforter for the second time from this shop, first time we get it back it's all snagged in the fabric all over and the lady says she will take it back and steam it and get all this out and I can pick it up next week, so I go to pick it up today and I look through the plastic and see all the snags still in the fabric. I point this out, the lady says she never inspected the comforter when i brought it in and therefore it looked that way when I brought it in! What logic is this??? I said there is no way I would claim you did something, if you or whoever cleaned it didn't ruined it! She said what did you pay $28, come on just be done with it and I clean it and steamed it twice, I said and also ruined it!! She said come on it's crap fabric! Nuri's saved me a this past Saturday! I was leaving on vacation and needed a new zipper put on my winter jacket. Tim fixed my zipper within a few hours. He did a very professional job. In fact, the new zipper works much better than the original one! Also, Tim's mom Nuri fixed my shirt that required very intricate sewing. Well it couldn't have gotten much worse here unless she had somehow hurt me during my time at the store. Based on Yelp reviews I picked this place for a repair to a tear in my pocket. Dropped my pants off on a Saturday. She said cause it was just a small repair she wouldn't bother with writing up a work ticket, Was told they would be ready by Friday. Came back on Saturday and first she couldn't remember the pants. Then she started looking where the completed work would be. While she was doing that I saw my pants still sitting on a table where I had left them a week prior. She realized they were mine and just said "come back later today." Listen lady, i gave you more than a week to do what a normal tailor can do in 5 minutes. I took my pants and left. Won't be returning... read more

After my usual cleaner on Lincoln went out of business I decided to give this place a try. I should have consulted them on the pricing before dropping my clothes off because the cost of dry cleaning certain garments was much higher than I was used to and was not posed anywhere or on the hand written receipt I was given. To top off my outrage at the price I was charged, without notice, one of my shirts was missing and another that wasn't mine was in its place. After an argument where the lady said there was nothing she could do for me, I paid my big bill and left. Needless to say I will not be going back. I now go to Frank's Cleaners and have had a much better experience there. read more

I'm not a frequent Yelper, but every so often I come across a place that I feel deserves the review, for better or for worse. This one is definitely in the better category I had three suits tailored for me in Bangladesh (superbly economic), and when they arrived the sleeves all were a little short, and the vest on the 3-piece needed some adjustment. Not bad! I brought them to Nuri, and he and his wife quickly and efficiently marked them up and had me out the door in 15 minutes. I came back a few days after they said they would be ready (so a week and a half after I dropped them off), they were ready to go and looked good. Add dry cleaning costs, and the bill was a reasonable $110. The best part: I walked in assuming that I could pay with my card, but they only do cash (and check! Who takes checks anymore? Anyway.)! Fortunately, I had just returned from a vacation, and had a bunch of cash in the wallet. I was short $5, and they just smiled and said "no problem." Definitely going back for all my suit needs. And that's a lot for someone living in the South Loop. read more

These folks have gone out of their way a few times for me. I've had pretty much every suit I've bought since moving to the neighborhood tailored by them and they always do outstanding work. One time I had brand new luggage where the zipper snapped off and they totally went above and beyond to fix it...totally something they don't handle on a regular basis but didn't bat an eye. This is one of the few businesses I've patronized based solely on Yelp reviews, and I'm going to add one more to the streak they have going. I had them take in a few suits not long after I'd decided to stop drinking my weight in beer every weekend, and they did a fine job. The first time I wore my newly-tailored black suit, someone at the soiree I was attending thought it was a tuxedo. The fit was that good. Customer service is NOT their strong suit here but they do exceptional work. They were able to save a bridesmaid dress which needed some extreme alterations and had to be done in three weeks. I lied and told them that I needed the dress in 2 weeks. However, when I called after 2 weeks, they did not touch the dress but promised they would--soon. I was quickly panicked. Yet, they called me 4 days later and told me to come in that day to see if it fit. Luckily for both parties I was able to go to the store that day. The dress fit!!! Nuri's cleaned the dress up a bit and I was able to get the next day. My alterations were $65 but that's around what I expected. Not sure how their other prices compare. read more

Their customer service is matter of fact, and a take-it-or-leave-it kind of mentality. I needed a dress tailored and it was like they had never seen a big chest before. They told me it was impossible to tailor the fabric around them. I mean really. This place might be reasonably priced for dry cleaning or for tailoring mens suits (around $50), but stay far away from this place if you have a big chest and need a dress fixed. And beware, they won't call you when they are done tailoring something even thought they say they will, so you won't know when it's done. read more

Came here after reading my fellow Yelpers' love for this place. I brought in a nice men's suit that needed some substantial alterations...shoulders, vents, pant seat, pant legs, cuffs. The husband does the tailoring work and this gentleman knows his craft. After 2 fittings, the suit fit like a glove. I'm talking a perfect fit in the jacket and pants. The price is a bit on the high side but you get some meticulous work here that is done to your specifictions. There is an inherent value to this in my view that is well worth the price. Since my initial review, I have taken 3 dresses in to Nuri's to have alterations done (all three were worn to weddings and one was a bridesmaid dress, so these were important alterations!), and I couldn't be happier with the results. The dresses fit like they were made for me, and the prices were the best I've found. I also had a large Hudson Bay blanket cleaned, and they only charged me $14. These two are awesome, and can be counted on for GREAT alterations. read more

This place is more of a butcher shop than a tailor. At first she said no problem, do one shirt to make sure I like it. I didn't like the job she did and she complained about having to do it again. Then she said it would take longer to do a the shirts because of the amount they had to cut. She asked for payment on the shirt before to fix it, then said she couldn't do the other shirts because the quoted price was too low. Upon receipt of the original shirt after the second go around it looked like a blind man had altered it. I have the pictures to prove it. If you look at the sleeve, notice how the stitch line isn't apparent at the underarm, apparent, then disappears at the wrist. It's because the seam isn't stiched straight. To compound it, look at how shotty the seam is stiched, almost like stitches in someone's head or something...nothing is done straight. Lincoln Ave is getting decimated from a commercial perspective. Bad work and bad attitude will keep that momentum going. read more

Well I got old and fat apparently, because I no longer fit into my four button suit's trousers bought in 2001. Fortunately there was plenty of extra material inside the seat for an alteration. Pretty routine stuff. They let out the trousers, and now they fit. I guess it lost some of the contour to the seat, but I didn't really put detailed demands on them about that (my first suit to be let out), so I can hardly blame anybody but myself. It looks fine but not quite that fitted italian suit looking fine. Ah well, guess I need to become a fat ass. Job was done in 2 weeks, but again I was in no hurry so I didn't press it. This place gets 5 stars all the way. I walked in desperate, and I mean DESPERATE! I needed my wedding gown altered in a week. Apparently, people usually do a fitting a few months before and get the final fitting around their wedding. Well, not me. Considering I planned my wedding in 3 weeks. Yeah. So I brought in the dress, and the woman (owner's wife, sweetie pie) was all for fixing the dress until she found out it was my gown. She got a liiiiitle nervous but I told her how desperate I was and she said nooo problemo. So, did they do my gown right? OHHHHHH YEES!!!! My dress was not an easy fix... either. It had 3 layers of chiffon, I don't know how they managed to alter the XL beaded gown to a M but they did. Don't even second guess them... just take your trusted items to Nuri's! read more

Nuri's was recommended to me and I took a suit there to get it tailored. They didn't have as fast of a turn around as I would have liked but they were accommodating to get me my suit by last possible moment that I needed it. The problem was one of the sleeves of the jacket was noticeably longer than the other sleeve. Of course because they had me wait until the last possible day to pick it up, I wasn't able to wear the suit to my interview that I had out of town. They did fix the sleeve free of charge and in his defense, he told me that one of my arms is longer than the other. Since then I have found out that he is correct, my left arm is shorter (odd right?) but tailors should double check this. To this day, I continue to use Nuri. He's a little out of my way but he's pretty good. read more

In my endless search to find just the right places to satisfy my demand for typical neighborhood services, this is the one I continue to go out of my way to use. Nuri's husband and wife team are absolutely excellent. I've gotten two new suits completely tailored here and its cost me only 40-50 bucks each time. The quality of the alterations and tailoring is excellent. I am also impressed by how helpful the husband is in deciding little details about the suits like whether to get cuffs or not on the pants or whether to bring the seat in or the shoulders out. A friend of mine had gone to a tailor in the Water Tower and, for a few small alterations, racked up a $300 bill! I came to Nuri's after reading several positive reviews touting their reasonable prices and efficiency. Nuri's exceeded my expectations in every way. Nuri and his wife were totally adorable and very sweet to me. They pinned me in my dress and made sure I was comfortable with what was going to be done. Used to be a great place for tailoring at a good price, though I'd always have to wait a few weeks to pick my clothes up since they were so busy. This last time, I brought my clothes in on April 19th and went to pick them up on May 24th - OVER a month later and they hadn't been touched! I dropped off MORE tailoring, and was assured that all five pieces would be ready on May 31st. WRONG!! I finally was able to pick up my clothes on June 14th, and - after almost TWO MONTHS - they'd only completed work on three out of five items! Never again.....The weirdest part? I got home later and there was a message on my answering machine asking me to pick up my clothes because 'they've been here a long time'!! The unmitigated gall, eh? read more

I went to Nuri's Custom Tailor and Cleaning: Expert Alterations to see if they do dry cleaning or if they're trying to set a world record for longest business name. Well, they do dry cleaning and they do it pretty darn well. The prices are good right now - $3.50 for pants and sweaters and $7.00 for dresses (not mine I swear). Nuri's also meets my one criteria for a dry cleaner: The front desk workers speak English. Don't think this is some insensitive, anti-any-other-culture statement. I say this because I have very specific/ridiculous starch instructions for my shirts and they probably can't be translated into any other language (even English sometimes). The lady I spoke with was very friendly too and humored my requests, moving on to give me medium starch like everyone else... but for a few minutes... I felt understood in this world. read more

The few times that I've been into this shop, I just have not been impressed. I took one of my suit jackets to them to have it taken in. When I came back to retrieve it, they said they didn't know anything about my jacket. After searching the rack for 20 minutes, they finally found it with the pins still in it. It hadn't been touched. I said I would come back in a few days. When I did, no discount or apology for my inconvenience. Plus they charged me $25 for the tailoring! Needless to say, I will not be returning. read more

nuri's is so great. they are SO nice, friendly, and experienced. they remember you and make you feel like you've known them for ages. i'm a shorty, so i come here to get my jeans, pants and skirts tailored. i always ask for jeans to be tailored with the original hem, and it always turns out great. they are fairly priced. my husband got his wedding suit tailored here and he was really happy. when it comes to tailoring, they are not pushovers. they will tell you if what you're requesting to make tighter or shorter will look ridiculous. they don't want to let you leave there looking like an idiot. read more

I'll have to update this once my alteration is complete. I walk by this place all the time and figured a mom and pop type place is always nicer to go to than a chain dry cleaner. I took a cotton dress there to be hemmed, relatively simple. The entire place smells of smoke, so I'm praying my dress will somehow come back to me smelling fresh and clean. It was a long discussion with the male seamstress as to how much it would be. They're charging me $22 for a hem that would have cost me $15 at Nordstrom. Hoping it was worth it. They also asked when I wanted to pick it up and offered it to be done in 2 weeks! It's summer dress.....summer might not even last that long. Ugh. read more
