I have been going to Boutique Cleaners for over 5 years now. I first found them as they provide wedding dress preservation services. They did an excellent job with the dress preservation so I have been going to them for dry cleaning and alteration services since. They are the only cleaners I trust with my expensive or vintage clothing. They are expert stain removers and they just don't run things thru a machine like a CD1 cleaners does. They will hand sew and cover delicate areas of clothing that cannot get touched by the heat of a dry cleaning machine and they will hand treat tough stains and trouble shoot until the stain is gone. This is especially great on vintage garments when you don't know what the stain is or how long it's been there. As far as alterations go, Moa is the very best. He went to fashion school and knows the proper and correct way to alter any garment so it's done right and looks amazing. He's also custom made me clothing from patterns and really can do anything you ask of him when it comes to sewing and alterations. Everytime I'm in there I see at least 10 wedding dresses lined up for alterations as well. I wish I had known about them when I had gotten my wedding dress altered. I don't know of another business in Chicago with this level of 360 service. It is expensive but you get what you pay for. If it's an expensive item I would not trust anyone else. I had a bridesmaid dress altered here for a wedding. The dress was done within the promised time (2 weeks). The process of making an appointment was done quickly and easily through Yelp. I had the sides taken in and some extra material taken off the sides of the dress. The cost was $88. Make sure to take your shoes and any undergarments you will be wearing with the dress the day of when you go in for the fitting. The man that helped me was knowledgeable and very friendly. Susan communicated with me prior to my arrival in Chicago and assured me I would have my items on time . I don't know about this place. I brought a dress here and was quoted at $38 to take the straps in. Fine. I returned on the day that they told me it would be done, and one of the straps popped off when I tried it on (a different strap than the ones which they had worked on). I informed the man at the front desk, he apologized and said he would fix it and asked me to return the next day. Today, I returned and found a different strap hanging on by a literal single thread. Again, I informed them and they told me they could fix it for an additional $15. I've had this dress for 2 years, have never worn it besides trying it on (because it's been too long), but that was it's only flaw. Somehow, while sitting in the store for a week, it started falling apart at the seams. Then they charged me extra to fix this. They ended up fixing what I asked for in the first place, but I feel like I got scammed. If you're reading this review trying to find a place for alterations, I would recommend choosing somewhere else. read more

After reading such great reviews, I decided to take my wedding dress here to get cleaned and altered. I wish I hadn't. The dress did not need a huge amount done to it, however I left plenty of time as I wanted to ensure it would be totally finished by an arranged date (this date was not flexible as I was flying out to Australia for my wedding). My experience throughout the fittings was not great.. each time I went in, it appeared as though very little had been done to the dress. And in the end, it was rushed. The day that I picked it up, I noticed that the hemming on one of the arm holes was not complete (which they then hastily did while I was standing there waiting!). I wish I could say this was the only issue that arose. 1 week out from my flight, I had my "final" fitting. Expecting the dress to be pretty much complete, I was shocked that a lot of work still needed to be done. But I trusted they would finish it.. At the end of the fitting, Susan then proceeded to tell me that they had LOST the $250 Michelle Roth bridal sash that my brother had bought for me to attach to the dress. How does that even happen?! It was wrapped up, labelled and inside my garment bag when I dropped off the dress to them. What upsets me the most is that it took so long for them to even realise it was missing, and even longer for them to tell me. Susan did try to find a replacement, to no avail, and it was at this time that I asked to be totally compensated for the price of the belt. When it came time to payment, they offered a $45 discount for them having lost the bridal sash... $45. Not only was I leaving the country for my wedding with an incomplete dress, but I was now also faced with having to find a new bridal sash in Australia, and then pay another seamstress to attach it. The stress and hassle of this whole situation was worth much more than $45. In the end, I managed to negotiate a $100 discount. I walked away very upset and not totally satisfied with having to pay a total of $550 for alterations and service that were substandard. After getting home, I took my dress out of the garment bag (which by the way, was now completely filthy and covered in black marks..?) and discovered some pretty noticeable flaws with the alterations. 1. They had torn quite a big hole in the delicate fabric on one of the armpits, and attempted to patch it up with WHITE fabric.. the dress is IVORY. Additionally, the torn material not sewn/stuck down, resulting in an ugly, unsatisfactory attempt at patchwork. 2. Due to the armholes of the dress being tight, I asked for them to be made bigger. This took several fittings to get right, and it wasn't until I got home that I realised the straps of the dress were now completely different widths. I guess I was so overwhelmed with the whole process of getting my dress fitted, that I did not see this in the store.. something I have been kicking myself for ever since. However, this doesn't change the fact that these people are 'professionals', and they should have ensured that the alterations were symmetrical and of a high standard! 3. Many parts of the lacework were not sewn back down onto the dress (and were sitting loosely on the fabric) and there were loose threads everywhere which had not been cut. 4. The hemming of the armholes was uneven and very rushed. 5. After noticing all of this, I voiced my concerns with Susan via text and provided photos (as seen below). It has now been 2 weeks, and I am yet to hear anything back from them. Overall, my experience with Boutique Cleaners was stressful, upsetting and infuriating. They offered to clean and preserve my dress for free after my wedding, but honestly, I wouldn't even trust them with that. read more

Overall I had a great experience at Boutique Cleaners for my wedding dress tailoring. There were a few hiccups and miscommunications in terms of scheduling and what needed to be done but in the end it all worked out! The staff is extremely friendly and skilled. My dress had to be taken in at least 1-2 sizes because I lost weight which meant taking off all the lace, taking it in, and then putting the lace back on for the sides as well as to shorten the dress. They did an amazing job on the cleaning, repair, and preservation on my dress and veil. My only issue is that the difference between quote and actual price was $300. That is insane. If I had had any idea the actual price would be $550, I would have shopped around a bit. As it was, I was quoted $250. I wish they had been much more transparent. Update: After speaking again with the business, we got a good explanation of the confusion. The POS system has a set price that goes in, while the small print carries the actual estimate.
