Went to get a white dress cleaned that had red wine stains on it . Not only was Mrs. G (never got her first name) amazingly sweet - she was able to get my dress looking brand new. I didn't realize that it was a 20$ minimum (I had no cash) she let me leave with my dress and trusted me enough to come back to pay. We came into this place to dry clean 1 supreme hoodie 1 bears hoodies And 2 comforters on June 1st and was told to pick it back up on the Tuesday next week. We picked them up and half way home we checked on the sweaters the supreme hoodie had multiple holes in it with stains and the bears hoodies had rips of fabric. We were not told anything upon picking up the clothes so we had to go back for a refund. At first telling them about the holes first started saying when we first brought it in it was already stains in it, then saying they didn't know it was in it and continue with saying they didn't know who did it. Was NOT being truthful. The cost of the supreme sweater was 150 and was only returned 37$ for both sweaters. This place is a few doors down from my house so I started taking my clothing here as a matter of convenience. Its almost a year later and I can't believe how good the service is here. The alterations are always spot on and the stitch is typically stronger and better than the original. 'Mr. G' doesn't ever seem to be around but the lady that is always behind the counter is suuuuuuper nice and friendly. We laugh and joke with each other during every visit. I travel a lot for work and she always remembers to ask how my trip was and even remembers where I went, which I find fairly impressive. It certainly speaks to her attention to detail and she incorporates this into her stitch work as well. Recently they've started doing shoe and belt repair as well. Locally owned family business, very, very friendly and helpful service. The woman who runs it (and her very nice son when she is out) is the sort that remembers her clients and gives you a wave when you walk by the store. She chats with you when you drop off your cleaning and remembers the details - she always asks me how my work/travel/cats/boyfriend, etc. are doing! Very endearing. What really sets them apart is that they do the greatest job on alterations and at very reasonable prices. I'm a *bit* on the short side, so everything I buy needs to be altered. She can handle very delicate fabrics and handle any repair, I trust her with everything. A bit pricey for dry cleaning, but they do a great job. I've never had them lose and/or ruin anything. Honestly, I don't mind paying a bit more to come here as they have such great service and are so friendly. read more

I took a cocktail dress here for an alteration to take in the shoulders and shorten the hem. The older couple inside who helped me was very friendly. They have a small changing area with a thin curtain in the middle of the store. It's not the biggest privacy shield, but got the job done. My alterations were ready in one week and cost $40. I'm not sure how that cost compares to other places - the woman who did the alteration showed me that because of the style (multiple intersecting seams), the job was more complicated and would cost more than usual, but I was happy with the result. The dress definitely fits better now, and you can't tell that alterations were done. I would return here for more alterations if I needed something done quickly. Logistically, the store is a bit hard to get to by car, being on a busy street (Western) near the Fullerton intersection, which is really trafficky at the moment because of construction. I found a place to park a couple of blocks away on side streets. They are cash-only and closed on Sundays. read more

Last things first -- This is definitely worth the cost compared to the discount cleaner chains. All of my work clothes are dry-cleaned so I'm pretty picky when it comes to finding a place. Due to the high cost, I was regularly going to CD One Price Cleaners but I kept getting items back with new stains on them. Koolaid-looking stains on some shirts, some collars with new spots, a pair of slacks with small spots. And what was annoying was none of those was there when I took the items in. They occurred during cleaning. Then there's the occasional shirt you get back that's missing a cuff button...yadda yadda... I wrote it off for a while b/c they're so cheap but finally I gave up and thought I'd try Mr G Cleaners down the street. It's more along the lines of a normal cleaners price, but nothing outrageous or unexpected. Not only did the woman working call me to verify when I would be in to pick up my garments, but a pair of slacks that CD One Price had stained came back CLEAN. They put a small grease-looking stain near the crotch on a pair of seersucker slacks and after 6 trips there pointing it out, they still couldn't do it. I dropped the slacks with others at at Mr Gs and didn't bother saying anything, figuring the stain was permanent. Everything came back clean and looking good as new. I'm 100% sold. Judging by the service I had and the tailoring equipment I saw, I'd be pretty surprised if she let a shirt get out the door missing a button, too. Highly recommend. read more

I've been using Mr. G's for about two months now, so I feel pretty comfortable leaving a review. The woman who works here (presumably the owner) is super friendly, and often goes above and beyond to make her customers happy. I bought my winter jacket in to get the buttons sewed on more tightly, and she didn't charge me anything. Once, when I left, she called to let me know we had not counted the amount of shirts I left correctly, and what the adjusted price of the total would be. Nothing has been lost yet, no mysterious stains have appeared, and she works with me if I need a "rush" on something. I LOVE this place, and while there are dry cleaners that are closer to my apartment, I will continue to come here, because it's truly that good. **Just a tip that Mr. G's does not accept credit cards, so be ready with cash. read more

I have been meaning to try this place out for a while and finally got the opportunity. I read the positive reviews in hopes of a new cleaners near my place. It's a bit tricky getting parking and dropping stuff off and picking things up, but I do agree that they are friendly. She remembered me even before I pulled out my ticket and got my things when I came up to the counter. She did a fantastic job on my bridesmaid's dress. Unfortunately, my white wool coat didn't get the same treatment. At my old place at Clothespin they always made it look brand new. She wasn't able to get some stains out and said she ran it through 3 times, but it just doesn't seem good enough for me or to my satisfaction. I feel like I have to take it to another cleaners. To my knowledge, there is only one lady at the shop and she is absolutely wonderful - personable, professional and has a great eye for detail. Having lived in the area for three years, i have used mr g countless times for my husbands button-downs; one day I needed to get an expensive bag cleaned since my daughter had spilled orange juice in it; took it to mr g and lady said she could do it and it would be done in three days. I come in three days later in the afternoon and the shirts are done but the bag will be ready Monday. Ok no problem. So I come in Monday, and she says again Wednesday the bag will be ready. Ok I say. We'd comes around and still no bag. So I stop in 8 days later to get bag; it is there without a tag to identify it as my property and since I lost the ticket, the man who helps run the shop will not give to me after I had described the bag to him. It is the responsibility of the business to id items they take in and clean- I almost did not get this bag back but I know for sure I will not ever use this cleaner again! How many shirts Do they not label? You may have to fight for your property! Then they charged me 35 for cleaning it after all this!!! Not using them Again! read more

I brought some pants in to be hemmed at Mr. G's...then a few more pants...then a suit...then some shirts... And then I didn't have any more clothes that needed to be altered. I moved out of the neighborhood. Time passed. Fast forward a year later, and I bought new pants and needed them hemmed, so I went back to Mr. G's. The dirt on the train had clearly been there for years and I resigned to the fact that I would not have a 100% clean gown. Boy was I wrong!! The lovely lady there had this dress looking brand new. I've only been in 3 times, but the nice lady behind the counter always remembers me and remembers our last conversation. I am extremely disappointed with my experience getting an alteration. I came in to get a dress hemmed about an inch on HALF the dress. I was not told how much the alteration would be and I was charge $55 to hem the lining of the dress. I had girlfriends to go another place to do a lot more alterations to their dress and they each spent $15-$20. I was extremely upset and was told that all dress alterations start at $55-$65. This is just a fantastic little place. The manager is incredibly nice, remembers your name, and is always helpful. It opens at 7 am and closes at 7 pm. The same person is there the entire time. I live a few blocks away and decided to bring in a bridesmaid dress that needed altering after reading other reviews on here. The owner/seamstress is very friendly and knows what she is doing. Her English is not perfect but pretty damn good. She altered it the way that I wanted and even shortened the top of the halter that is made out of chiffon which was probably difficult to do. She said that she had never done that before but it looked exactly as it had before the alterations so she is obviously a pro. I brought the dress in with plenty of time before the wedding but I am sure that she would have been able to alter it in a short time frame if needed. My only complaints is that she didn't call me when the dress was done (I had to call her to find out.) She also is cash only which she probably should have told me when I called to find out if the dress was ready for pick up. I ended up spending the same amount that I would have if I had altered it at a place like David's but I much prefer to give my business to a small, local business like Mr G. read more

Had a zipper replaced and pants hemmed. The hemming work was stellar but she replaced the zipper with the same crappy zipper that broke...and it broke 3 days later. Never been back. Would have been nice too so close to the house. read more

Rude behavior!Their min charge is $20 for card. Didn't mention anywhere in the store. In my experience $10 min is everywhere. My bill was $16 and she wants me to go to ATM and pay her. Had to fix my zipper. Its not cheap compared to other cleaners. Pant clean also more than $5. Not coming back again read more

I'm sorry to say that despite how absolutely nice the lady is, she royally messed up the alteration to my bridesmaid dress. I needed the top taken in (because I have no boobs) and she took in everything, so it wouldn't even zip up. She let it out within a couple hours and I went back, but it was skin tight. She then let it out again and now the very top is too big again. She refused to fix it any more. I've taken it to a new guy and he can't fix the shotty seam-work of the skirt (it bubbles on the side a bit - not flattering - plus with all the seam-work she did the fabric is pretty messed up) but he'll at least take in the top. Overall, all the alterations cost more than the dress! If you absolutely need something (she's fast) just be overly clear on what you need done. read more

I'm not sure what to make of this place. This was my first experience, and I don't think I'll be back. I brought in an item that needed a zipper replaced. They gave me a price to replace the zipper. When I went back to pick up my item, they told me they were cash only. There is not a single sign in the place that states this, and it would have been nice to know this when I dropped my item off so that I had cash when I went back. It was frustrating to have to leave and come back again. I'm fine with cash only, just post a sign so that customers know (or tell them when they drop off). When I went back the second time to pick up my item, the zipper had been repaired, not replaced. They still charged me the same rate, which was frustrating b/c the rate they quoted was to put in a completely new zipper. read more

This place is near the logan square area, so it was fairly convenient to try it out. I Had to get 3 Dress shirts dry cleaned, and a zara suit and jeans altered. She asked me if i wanted the shirts dry cleaned or laundry. I told her dry cleaned, and she told me that if i choose laundry, it will come out the same. I think it was 1.80 per shirt. Who does that!!! i mean how sweet is that. She told me to do something cheaper. I thought that was super nice. Also one of the dress shirts needed some stitching with the buttons. I didn't even notice it until she pointed it out. As far as the 2 pants go, i didn't have the measurements so i tired both pants on for her, and she just put the pins at the correct length. I go in today to pick it up. The shirts look brand new, and the one that needed stitching , you cant even tell it was stitched!!! Also i tried both pants on. I must say the quality was Extremely Well done. I'm very picky when its comes to my pants, but she did a terrific job. I will definetly go back to this place. CASH ONLY though. read more

I had been using Mister G's since I moved to Bucktown 10 months ago but will not be returning after they ruined a sweater & refused to take responsibility for it. I took a fairly new sweater (maybe worn & dry cleaned twice before) in & it came back with a few small holes in the front. I took it back & they insisted it was moth damage from storing in my closet (impossible since I had just dropped it off without holes) & offered to sew the holes. It's obviously unwearable - you can't just stitch holes shut in the middle of a sweater - but they still insisted the damage wasn't from the cleaners so now I'm just out the $100 sweater. Hope Mister G's reads this & realizes in a world of reviews you have to treat customers better if you want to stay in business. read more

At times, going above and beyond what you ask for, for example: sourcing a missing specialty button for a sweater that you only brought in for cleaning. Excellent alterations. I have stopped going here because they have raised their prices for cleaning my shirts from $1.50 to $2 per shirt. I normally get about 25-30 shirts done at a time so that adds up. They told me that everyone was raising prices in area....I know better than that. I know go to Ecolife Cleaners @ 3139 N Clybourn Ave. For shirts, it is $1 and they do a great job with a couple days to complete the job. Sorry but I can't pay twice as much as your competitor down the street with equivalent quality! read more

Phenomenal customer service here. They are extremely nice and accommodating. I needed a suit dry cleaned within 2 days and the nice woman insisted they would have it done. I feel bad I caused a little argument between her and her husband over it but they got it done for me. She even found where the hem was coming out of the pants and fixe it for me so I didn't look like too much of a fool. Great people, great service. Give em a try! read more

ZERO STARS!!!! I typically wont do ratings even when I have a horrible experience. But this by far was THE WORST service I have ever had. I came in to drop off two (of my 6) curtain panels. The dog got a little pee on the bottom of one. After being cleaned, the bottom of one was somewhat bleached. She told me it was because you cant always clean out urine. I decided it wasn't that big of a deal. (even though it is.) But when I brought them home to hang up, I noticed the two panels that were cleaned were now 2-3inches SHORTER than all the others! Angry, I came in and she told me it wasn't her fault and that she couldn't believe it. I asked her to replace them and she acted like that was crazy. After some arguing and the man coming out and yelling back at me I asked simply for the money I spent on them cleaning it back ($40). They refused. While i know none of us should have raised my voice, the man did not need to come out from behind the counter and get in my face. If a restaurant screws up your food, you don't pay, how is this any different?? AWFUL customer service. DO NOT GO unless you want your things ruined!! read more
