I have been going to Willow Cleaners for 18 years even though I have since moved to the other end of Lincoln Park. Chris and her team and wonderful and have also altered my clothing the entire time. Had a great experience with getting alterations done at Willow Cleaners! The staff was all very kind. They have a fitting room to try on your clothing and then come out to get them pinned where you want it altered by the seamstress. The whole experience was very speedy, and both of my items (jeans and a dress) were completed in one week. The total came out to $50 only for both items!! All the staff were very kind too. What a terrible experience. I brought in a brand new comforter, never used before. It was an expensive brand lable comforter. On the tag it said gentle cycle and all. I notified them about the lable and said can you do this. They said, of course, we know how to do all comforters. When I picked up the comforter there was an over 1 foot rip in the comforter. I tried talking with the old lady that was helping me but she is so hard to understand and was blaming it on the manufacturer, that it was cheap quality. First off, it's not cheap quality. Secondly, she had the audacity to want to charge me for the service. I was blown away by how rude and dismissive she was and overall lack of accountability and desire to right a wrong. I am incredibly disappointed and dissatisfied with this place and could not recommend enough people not go there. Just a shameful experience on their part. read more

I came to Willow Cleaners based on a friend's rave recommendations and the great reviews. However, my experience was not very great. When I first arrived, no one has acknowledged me for about 15 minutes. I gave them the benefit of the doubt given it was a Saturday and busy. Mrs. Kwon came over to mark the garmets as I tried them on. She insisted she would give me a good price on the items. I brought in two dresses and a jumpsuit to be hemmed, in addition to the seam of a pair of pants to be fixed. The first dress was a wedding guest dress, that I had asked to be hemmed a bit longer as I would be wearing heels with it. Mrs. Kwon hemmed it several inches too short and charged me $80 for the hemming, which was more than the cost the cost of the dress. Since I was unable to wear it, I had to run out and get another dress for the wedding. For the second dress, she hemmed it to the correct length but it was an uneven hem. It is very obvious that it is hemmed longer on one side of the leg slot compared to the other. For this dress, she charged $60, which again was higher than the cost of the dress itself. She claimed it was because it was a double lined dress. On the jumpsuit, the hemming on either leg was uneven. She charged me $25 for this hem, even though it was also double lined. For the final pair of pants, she fixed the seam for free. This was nice, but I generally felt like I was overcharged for the service and quality I was given here. Not only was Mrs. Kwon distracted and inattentive, the pricing also seemed completely arbitrary. I will not be returning to Willow Cleaners. read more

Careless, careless, careless is all I can say about this place. Every single time I have taken something to be dry cleaned or altered it has not even been up to normal standards. I usually bring my black sport coat in and that's the only thing they haven't messed up. I brought my winter jacket in to have the zipper replaced as it was broken. They put the zipper on the wrong side so now when I zipper the coat it gets stuck all the time. They also proceeded to lose one of the wrist buckles. As I came back for them to fix the zipper I told them about the buckle. They told me it wasn't there when I dropped it off which of course it was. I left my wool coat to be dry cleaned and just picked it up. They have damaged yet another item. I had a gold loop buckle on the back & they said 'sorry we broke it' & proceeded to charge me. Their prices might be inexpensive but at the cost of your nice clothing! Don't go here! Won't be coming back that's for sure. read more

I brought in a pair of satin white trousers to be fitted in the waist. They were altered so tight I could barely take a deep breath. They offered to let the waist out. When I went back to pick up the pants, they were then somewhat loose in the waist. Which I thought whatever, I can deal with since I needed these pants today to leave for an important vacation tomorrow. I noticed bright yellow tailor's marks on the back. I asked why they didn't clean them off, she said oh you can do it at home no problem. I thought that was strange, but was in a hurry so I left. I washed them twice at home and the marks are still there. I called to ask what to do, they said I should bring them in after my vacation and they'd dry clean for free. I need them today, how would that help me? They said the owner would call me, but they had their sweet older tailor call me to try to make me feel bad. They refused a refund. Mind you it's been over 2 weeks now for what should be a simple waist fitting and they ruined my pants I only needed for this weekend. Terrible customer service and sloppy work. Do not come here with any expensive clothing. read more

If I could give negative rating on this place, I WOULD! Imagine it's your wedding and one of the dresses isn't perfect!!! I don't think any amount of money could compensate it. But I can't believe this place would try to deny the responsibility. They were irresponsible on what they did and they ruined a brand new bridesmaid dress. So with all the great reviews and a friend's recommendation, I came to this place to take in my bridesmaid dress. They pinned the dress, consulted each other on the work, and told me it would be ready in a week. When I got to the store a week later, I saw the dress deconstructed on the counter, and I thought to myself that I should have called to check first before taking the L and hiking in the snow to the place. As soon as the owner, assumably, saw me, she asked me when i bought the dress and how much I bought it for. I thought they were odd questions to ask. After I hesitantly told her the information, she then told me "something happened and the piece of fabric on the front panel was ripped". ( I bet they had looked up the Jcrew website for the dress but couldn't find any information.) She kept showing me how she would patch it and reassuring me that it would still turn out "beautiful" and unnoticeable. And she asked me not to tell anyone and "negotiated" with me on the compensation. At that time I was just shocked and speechless. these were some of the thought run through my mind: 1) I am not too sure how to tell my friend, 2) I really don't care how much you compensate me, all I wish was my dress UN-RUINED. The dress is irreplaceable. 3) since you have my dress and I need you to patch it up, I can't really negotiate much since I don't want you to do a even more lousy job. So I agree on the unreasonable compensation of $50 and I wouldn't have to pay for $20 for the tailoring work...( I was like WTF! Like I would still pay for that?) After I pushed for a week of delivery, I left the place furious and worried! The dress is basically sold out across the entire nation, and how would that patch look on the dress and at the wedding, and of course, how i am going to tell my friend!! I went with my BFF a week later to pick up the dress, I was a bit relieved after seeing the patch work. My BFF said that it is ok, though obvious, coz it looked like it has a dart on one side, but not the other. So I was gonna take my $50 and leave the place. The owner then dared to say, "the tailoring work is $20, and we agreed on $50..." knowing where she was going with this, I stopped her and said, "yes, you are going to give me the $50 we agreed on and I won't have to pay you the $20". She said the following that burst me into flame, "well, we don't know what happened, only God knows...." That just showed how irresponsible this place is!!! I said that God didn't damage the dress, I didn't damage it. It is damaged here at Willow Cleaners. I would love to pay you the $20 to tailor my perfectly brand new dress, but you had ruined it at the first place". She gave in and gave me that $50. I would never go back. read more

I never post bad reviews, but I couldn't ignore this and let this happen to someone else. Although they were generous with the pricing and did a very quick turn around, I would never recommend because of how my body was spoken about during fittings. I brought a jumpsuit in to get let out as I bought it a few years ago and it was too small (went on, was snug, and couldn't figure it would zip or not). I simply asked if it could be let out and she had me try on. She kept asking me why I didn't buy it in two sizes bigger and commenting about how it was so tight. I was humiliated and very upset; as someone who has gained weight due to health issues and physically cannot lose it, this was the worst thing to say to me. She said it couldn't be done, so I thanked her and left. She followed me to my car, deciding that they could add extra fabric in the sides. I was still in shock about how she spoke about my body, so I begrudgingly agreed. When I came back for a fitting the next day, she commented about my body again and then I told her I had health issues. She chuckled and asked me again why I didn't get a bigger size. She told me she'd charge me $40 instead of $80 and was upset I didn't immediately jump for joy with thanks, but I was holding back tears. Upon picking up my jumpsuit, she asked me many times if it was okay and then defended why the job was the way it was. To me, it looks like a maternity jumpsuit and based on how I was treated, I'm not even sure I can get myself yo wear it now without remembering what was said about my body. Never go for wedding dress cleaning or preservation. 1. She removed the belt attached to my dress without asking in order to clean it and then did not fully reattach it. I understand if something needs to be done to preserve beading, but she should have asked and then properly reattached it. I would not have approved it being removed and would have gone elsewhere to a specialist. 2. We discussed making it air tight. Her version of this is storing it in a plastic bag and then putting Scotch tape and Staples on the bag to close it. That is not air tight and plastic retains moisture, which would ruin the dress over time. I paid $120 for the cleaning (which was fine but I had no stains so a simple cleaning). I will have to go elsewhere for preservation. When I complained that it wasn't what I asked for she told me that I "need to learn to be nicer." read more

I had sewed for years but more recently am no longer able to work well with my hands. Used to go here all the time and the tailoring is still ok -- however DO NOT CLEAN YOUR CLOTHES HERE. Over the years both the laundering and cleaning have substantially deteriorated. Now when I bring in white shirts to be laundered, they are returned with light brown stains around the collar that were not originally there when I first brought the shirts. Same thing happened to our son's shirts. I recently brought in a nice brand new light blue shirt with two small chocolate syrup stains, that I probably could have removed on my own. I marked them with red tape and the stains came back the same with no sense that anyone even tried to even attempt to remove or treat in any way. I believe it was laundered rather than dry cleaned as I asked and laundry people probably just removed tape and did not try. Now shirt is ruined since they dried shirt with the stain baked into the garment. Great... Also, if you are lucky enough to have your clothes dry cleaned they are lost or misplaced at least 50% of the time and the other 50% it does not appear that much effort was placed to clean the article. I would rather pay 2x for a real cleaning than deal with this lack of service and confusion. read more

Do NOT take dresses here to be altered. I brought my maid of honor dress in to get hemmed and minor alterations on the straps/chest. I came back to pick it up and the pins were still on the straps/chest-they forgot to do half of the alterations and asked me to come back, which wasn't a problem. I came back and they had done the alterations, but SO sloppy the dress no longer fits. They added two inseams and sewed the cups super bunchy on the inside when I had not even asked for the cups that are built into the dress to be sewn! The dress was also FILTHY!! Spots everywhere. When I pointed it out they tried to tell me I brought it in dirty. I did not. I brought it in the plastic it came in, and they brought it out to me without plastic so it was clearly not clean where they were working on it and storing it. They then proceeded to tell me I was being too picky, I am too difficult, it's too much work, that it's my body not their work, etc. They cleaned the dress and attempted to charge me $25. Unfortunately, I paid for the alterations (in cash upon request) because I didn't want to deal with their rude customer service anymore, but now I need to take it somewhere to be fixed. I live around the corner and have used Willow Cleaners several times. They are great! The alterations I have had done were fast, accurate, and well done. The cleaning has all been perfect and very reasonably priced. I picked up and item today and brought a new item in with me -- a jumpsuit that I put a pretty decent snag in at a recent event. She fixed it like almost new in about 2 minutes and refused to charge me!! In this day and age, service like that deserves recognition. So glad they are our corner cleaners!! read more

I've lost a fair amount of weight over the past month, and one of the unfortunate (or fortunate, depending on your perspective) side effects is that almost none of my clothes fit me anymore. Since I can't afford to replace my entire wardrobe, I decided the next best thing would be to take some of my clothes to Willow and have them alter a few things. I took 3 pairs of jeans, a dress, and 5 pairs of work pants to be taken in. Mrs Kwon had me try the clothes on and then proceeded to pin everything so I would know exactly how they'd fit when they were done. She told me she'd rush altering everything so I would have some clothes to wear. I swear the poor woman must have worked over the holiday to get it all done in just a few days. It all fits as it's supposed to and she charged me next to nothing. Willow Cleaners always goes above and beyond my expectations, and they've earned a customer for life. read more

Don't risk bringing expensive clothes here. I've been coming to Willow Cleaners for nearly 6 years without issue. A few months ago I brought in 2 suits and a pair of pants but when I went to pick up they were nowhere to be found. After 4-6 weeks of being jerked around they agreed to give me half of the money to replace them even though I already purchased the new suits and had the receipt. I'm not sure when the level of service went from great to complete crap but I cannot trust them anymore. Maybe if they didn't jerk me around about refunding me for the suits they lost I might consider going back but after 3 months of going in and calling for my refund, I have given up. read more

I searched Yelp for a tailor or alterations expert to try to fix them and found Willow. Not only did they fix the hem, they did it overnight and for $12 (I think she felt sorry for me). I had another pair hemmed, as well, and both are perfect... These ladies have experience and their work speaks for itself. They are sweet, professional and their prices are amazingly low!!! So there's a dry-cleaner on every corner, and I've been working my way through maybe all of them for awhile now. Along the way I've paid $12 for a clean shirt, lost a suit coat, and somehow even ended up with tapered-leg flood pants. But I'm so happy to say that I've now finally found a cleaners/ alterations place that I love. These ladies are so friendly, and complete all my alterations on-time. For real! I mean really? I was going to write this review later, but I just can't believe it. I should have known something was up when I had to keep stating I don't like my pants dragging on the ground. I am so annoyed. Last week I dropped off two pairs of jeans to be hemmed. On one pair of pants the leg was a little longer than the other; on the other I needed it completely hemmed. I tried talking Spanish to the lady that worked there, which apparently I was still unable to communicate that I want my pants short, not dragging on the ground. They asked me to try them on so we could measure them. The seamstress, I was told only spoke Chinese, kept telling me long. You want long? No, I want short. I even went so far as to pull up the shoes on my phone, since I would not be wearing my winter boots with these. I left a little nervous that they would not be right. On Thursday I picked them up. They asked me to try them on to make sure they were right. I told her I didn't have time. I mean you measured them, and this is your job why wouldn't it be right? They 1. fixed the wrong leg of the jeans. 2. the second pair were LONG! So I was going to take them back that night but they were closed. I don't do business on Sundays so I took them back first thing this morning. The lady was telling me that it was a redo and they wouldn't charge. I tried them on and she said they long. fine. NO I want them short. I felt myself get agitated. Then she did it and said fine fine. As I was leaving I was asked did you tell her it is a redo or else we have to charge you $10. If you did it right the first time this wouldn't have been an issue. Once my pants are fixed I am not going back. Price for my jeans -$ 9 Price to hem one leg -$5 Go at your own risk. read more

Agree with consensus- the sweet ladies at Willow Cleaners are determined to make you happy with their service and prices. They're always smiling and try to remember your name. I'm very particular about my cleaning and after 3 years they have never let me down. I moved away from the area but still continue to take my cleaning there. Tailoring is fantastic for the price- I've had my designer jeans tailored and zippers fixed...only $10 for the whole thing! I pulled a few dresses from the back reaches of my closet and thought "How cute would this be if a) it fit me better, or b) it were shorter?" Willow cleaners to the rescue! After reading the many rave reviews, I took the time to walk the 15 minutes from my place, passing three other cleaners in the process. The changing room is pretty tiny/cluttered with random things (a rolled up carpet last time I was there) but the owner was very attentive and quick with her pinning. $45 dollars later I had a beautifully shortened former bridesmaid ballgown, a shortened black jersey dress, and a completely taken-in white strapless number. They even took extra care to get out a yellowish spot on the white dress before they took the time to alter it. Minor points off for the slightly puckered hem on the jersey dress, but that may just be the nature of the fabric. I'm going back to get a bunch of other stuff tailored soon! read more

Wow -- love this place! I came here for the first time to have a few dresses dry cleaned and one hem re-stitched. I asked for a quote on the hem and they told me to wait and the seamstress could take care of it right away. Five minutes later, I walked out with my re-hemmed dress, free of charge! The hem looked great -- even and was clearly very high-quality work. That's wonderful service, especially for someone who was a new customer. I'm still shocked they didn't charge me. The prices are reasonable and service is always friendly and quick. This is where I will take my business now, even though I have a dry cleaners in my building. Definitely a fan! read more

Overall, the service is ineffective at cleaning--particularly when it comes to stains. Also, the main woman who works behind the counter there is very unprofessional. Most items come back with stains still on them, even if you ask for them to be specifically treated. When I asked for the stains to be marked so they wouldn't be missed in the cleaning, I was told that they don't do special treatments for stains so there's no point. This is different from what other dry cleaners who successfully remove stains have told me. For example if you have deodorant stains in the underarm areas of your clothes, don't expect them to come off when your clothes are returned to you, even if you specifically ask for them to be treated. One shirt came back with new much bigger stains on it, and another shirt came back with visible spots of what I was told was starch. When I asked that they clean those two items again and not charge me (since they were responsible for the new stains), the main woman behind the counter initially said no, put up a fuss, and accused me of making her "feel bad." When I came to pick up the clothes a week later, the same woman told me to not "expect perfect every time" (referring to how clothes there are cleaned). I've also experienced that the clothes are not ready for pickup when they say they will be, even if you come several days after they said they would be ready. I have given Willow Cleaners several chances, but I refuse to vote with my wallet for a service that's bad quality AND unprofessional. I understand that not all stains can be removed, but I don't think it's normal that clothes are sometimes returned with new and much worse stains and that their customers are treated in an unprofessional manner. read more

Seriously, this place is awesome. My boyfriend has gone all over Lincoln Park to get his tailoring done because he likes to "support [his] neighborhood." And to be quite frank, he comes back so upset every time because they either charged him too much or effed up his clothes...or both. But he went to Willow and he came home and I couldn't stop hearing about how amazing this place was. He took a pair of pants in to get altered and he was the happiest man in the world. So, I told him I had to get some pants altered and he was more than happy to tell me where to go. He spent an hour trying on pants to make a pile to take there when I went. I had just bought a pair of 1921's from The Blue Jeans Bar that ran me almost $200 and were way too long. I loved the original hem and I mean, let's be serious, when you pay that much for a pair of jeans you want them to look like you never took a needle to them ever in your life. So when I went I asked for the original hem; she nodded over and over "yes I can do that." I got two other pants altered as well; a quick hem to a pair of Benetton pants, and a seam reconstructed and reinforced on the inner thigh of my Serfontain jeans. That all cost me about 18 bucks. We're not local to Chicago, and the need was urgent, so we arrived near the end of the day hoping that Willow could help us out. They helped us take over detailed and unusual 25 measurements (Indian clothing is particular) and absolutely refused payment. If I lived nearby, this would be my new favorite cleaners. A+ read more

I took an entire-white down jacket for cleaning and it was originally so dirty at the cuff, collar, and the back of the jacket.. The back part was like mould color and I even didn't realize that when I took the jacket out at the store. I guess the reason might be that I put the jacket in a corner of my room for almost four months.... As you know the winter is so long this year. So seriously I didn't expect any like-new cleaning quality because I personally treated my jacket so careless.... When I picked it up after one week, I have to say Willow Cleaner is wonderful. The white jacket is just like a brand new one, except some dirty tiny spot on the back part and cuff. So it definitely deserve a five-star reward. read more
