There are only a handful of tailors in the city whom are qualified to take in a blazer or suit and this was one of two that were highly recommended to me. They did a fantastic job with resizing suit jackets of mine and taking in the sides. Better work than could have been done at previous places I've gone. I have come by the Tailor shop occasionally in the last few years. I've brought a few formal dresses here for hemming as well as some regular course alterations. Eric always does a fantastic job and is friendly and efficient. I recently had a pair of jeans hemmed here and I can't even tell they were hemmed when I picked them up except that they were shorter. He is on the pricier side (jeans hemmed were $25 and formal dresses have been in the $60+ range) but for the quality of the work it is totally worth it. His lead time can be fairly long (~1month for formal / dress alterations during the busy wedding season) as a heads up. I would definitely trust the Tailor Shop to work on my nicer clothes especially in more delicate fabrics. read more

I've gone to the tailor shop 3 times and the tailor Eric is consistently unfriendly, unwelcoming and unaccommodating . This was especially disappointing since most of my clothing needs alterations due to my height and The tailor shop is close to work. I also Iove when I am able to support minority businesses. What cannot support is someone so uninterested in my needs as a customer, his extremely long timelines to complete work and unnecessary charges. I went in to have the sleeve hems taken down on an overcoat. Eric the tailor quoted that it would take 3 weeks. When I told him I needed it sooner than that he seemed annoyed but agreed to Cut the time in half. My last straw was on my 3rd visit when he wanted to charge me $10 just to measure me. Eric is very nice and does good work. I have only had one mis-communication on a pick up date, but ended up be able to come the next day. So that was fine. He is very conveniently located in the loop, so it is easy to drop items off during the day while at work. The only reason I am giving The Tailor Shop four stars and not five, is because the repairs are a little pricey. If you trek to a tailor often, you know it is hard to get good results. It isn't something you can really "shop around." So, I guess that is why I put up with paying a little bit more to give my clothes to someone who won't damage them. Not only is he incredibly experienced, has an amazing eye for detail and attention, and is very nice and friendly, but he started tailoring when the field was filled/saturated with European tailors; starting at this time allowed him to learn from some of the greatest "everyday" tailors and absorb their incredible skill and techniques, all of which he continues to practice today. I've been looking for a tailor in the Loop, and after reading all of these positive reviews I was more than happy to head over to The Tailor Shop. Waste of time. First of all, it took a full 10 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge that I was there. I finally had to go around to the fitting area, and even then I was brushed off. A man finally comes out to me and asks what I want. I was looking for someone to stitch a sleeve I had ripped along the seam and sew elbow patches that I already purchased onto a sweater. The man looked at me like I was insane. He said there was nothing they could do. The patches I brought in were too big, and when I said it was okay to use patches that he thought fit better he said they didn't have anything in my size. I mean, I'm a completely "average" sized woman! I don't know what happened here, but I left very upset. read more

Thanks to Yelp, I was able to find Eric @ The Tailor Shop. This place is top notch and the prices are fairly good. I was in desperate need of getting my new suit tailored for a last minute wedding that I had to attend the same week. Eric was great explaining things over the phone and told me to come into his shop the following day for measuring and I was on my way. Being my first experience with a tailor outside a store I buy my suit from, Eric was VERY thorough and the quality of work was outstanding. I cannot stress enough how pleased I am for having found this store and the services. A break down of prices from the top of my head: dress pants tailored - $15 Suit sides pulled in for a more fitted look - $40 Suit sleeves pulled in (so my cufflinks show) - $30 This was well worth the cost. There was not sign of any stitching and everybody at the wedding services was amazed at the cut of my suit. I will repeat and have already set aside another suit for a upcoming wedding that I want fixed up a bit. Thank you Eric for some quality work and fellow Yelpers for pointing me to this shop. I can't decide between 4 and 5 stars. Oh, so indecisive today! We'll go with 5. I've lost some weight over the last few years and had some skirts I wanted to have taken in instead of donating them. Since the Tailor Shop is close to my office I wandered over there mid-day during the week a few weeks ago. It's a small place, tucked in that strange little alley off south LaSalle, inside an office building (or is a hotel?). Anywho, Eric showed me to a dressing room and I changed into the first skirt. He quickly pinned all three and I was back in my well fitting clothes. He said it would be a couple weeks, and $125. I've gotta say, I was a little surprised by the price. Also, by the math. $40 per skirt, 3 skirts, I don't have to work at a bank to know that's $120. But, I assume the $5 is for tax? Who knows. I paid it, without questioning it, 'cause I'm thrifty like that. Time to pick up said skirts. Again, mid day during the week (do I ever work?) I strolled over to the Tailor Shop, and tried on my skirts. They all looked great. I was a little worried they would appear altered, but you can't tell they have been taken in. They were probably taken in 3 sizes each. One of them has some serious seaming on the, ahem, backside. Eric did a great job ensuring the seaming was all matched up. Also, all three had side zippers, which complicates these kinds of endeavors, and that, I understand, is why the hefty $40 price tag. But, after getting them back I'd say $40 per skirt was worth it. They also do custom shirts at the Tailor Shop, but only for men currently. Apparently they send out all their custom orders, I don't really know what that means. I assume it means Eric does the measuring and someone else does the shirt makin'. If he decides to try a woman's shirt he's gonna call me. I can't wait. I'll most likely be back with some more skirts and pants before then. read more

I was in Chicago for a three day business trip during which I experienced a zipper emergency involving one of the two pairs of pants I packed for the trip. Eric was extremely accommodating, even allowing me to drop off the pants slightly after his scheduled close time after I called to let him know I may be a couple minutes past 6. He replaced the broken zipper in the pants with a much sturdier alternative for $35, whereas replacing the pants altogether would have cost over $100. He had them ready for me by early afternoon the next day, preventing me from having to wear the same pants 3 days in a row during a week in which temperatures did not dip below 90 degrees. Though I no longer live in Chicago, I highly recommend giving Eric your business for any Loop-adjacent tailoring/pants-fixing needs!! read more

Going to keep this nice and trim, but Eric is my new go-to tailor. I brought in my wedding suit three weeks before the ceremony and he had it done with time to spare. It was a little big in the arms, too long in the sleeves and all the alterations were going to effect the lapel. Eric did his thing and it came out perfect. I told him it was an nontraditional wedding, and I was wearing an English sort of skinny suit and it wouldn't have looked as good without Eric's work. Every stitch and cut blends in without any sign of alteration. It was nice to work with him and have him make it come out perfect. I got many compliments on it, especially how well it fit. Eric is a great tailor who runs an honest shop. The best part? This guy has an impressive love of 70's soul and R&B. I've just started getting my suits and jackets fitted last year, and I've been through a handful of tailors along the process. I kept getting posed with the same question - if it's going to be quality work, and if the price of the fitting is relatable to the cost of the article of clothing. There are some suits that I'd take to Cornelio's Master Tailor for $150 fitting; but then there are certain things like a $200 searsucker jacket that I'd rather take to Eric at the Tailor Shop. Eric definitely knew what needed to be done to the back, to form a good fit. He presented two options of either doing it for $40, or an even better fit which would take it in from the sides for $65. I was fine with the second option, and he said it'd take about 3-4 weeks and they'll give me a call. Now in between I kinda forgot, remembered, and forgot again (since this was 2 months ago). But I was going through the area this weekend, called him and he still had it (boy was I glad), I swung by to pick it up and could not be happier with the fit. Eric is amazing! So happy I stumbled upon The Taylor Shop being new to the area. No task is too big for him - it was so refreshing to see someone finally tell me they could fix my winter parka. Long story short, the zipper tore apart from the wash and the coat was unusable without a new zipper. I took my coat into Eric and he accepted the task of replacing the whole zipper, communicated with me on my expectations for repair, AND had my coat ready on the first (of two) date he quoted due to the holidays which I greatly appreciated as it is winter in Chicago and my winter coat was down for the coint. Let's be honest, a good tailor is hard to find. So, when you come across someone who knows their stuff and does a great job, hold on to 'em. Hands down, Eric and the Tailor Shop fits that description. Out of convenience more than anything, I had been using a tailor in my neighborhood for years. I was never completely satisfied with his work. So, this time, when I needed some alterations done, I did a little research. I discovered Eric and the Tailor Shop through Yelp and saw all these rave reviews. I figured it was worth my while to see if all the hype was true. Spoiler alert. It is. To echo all the other reviews, Eric is friendly and professional. He offers reasonable prices (comparable to my old neighborhood tailor) and, most importantly, he does quality work. I had a handful of designer jeans that needed some alterations - including a couple of my favorite pairs that I thought may have seen their better days. I like the place so much I had to write my first review! Eric is absolutely a joy to deal with. His instinct is slightly more conservative than progressive, but he works with whatever I want. He's also extremely knowledgeable, professionally trained, and has been doing this for a long while. He's also extremely polite and respectful. I've gotten several suits (more than I need) and several blazers taken in by Eric after I lost a bit of weight. He needs a bit of time since he's so swamped with work, but he's worth the wait. Eric was money! I recently brought him the suit I was going to wear for my beach wedding in Mexico and he tailored it to make it look like it was custom made for me. I had the side vents brought in, and the sleeves taken up on the jacket. The pants were shortened a touch and I had the waist and seat taken in as well. I also brought him a linen shirt that I was planning on wearing during the vacation to reduce the size collar as it was obnoxiously large. He delivered all the alterations on time and with expert quality. His prices are very similar to what I received when I took a suit to Nordstrom last year but the work far surpassed that of the Nordstrom tailor. read more

Master tailor Eric Boasmond is a wonderful tailor! His shop is located inside a building just across the street from where I work, so very convenient to me and others that work in the Loop. I would def recommend him for any alterations...he has hemmed and taken in at least a dozen pants/jeans/skirts for me and always does a phenomenal job and is very quick. I just took a new pair of jeans today to get hemmed and before I could even ask if it was possible to get them back by Thursday (2 days from now), he said I could pick them up tomorrow! He also remembers me since I give him all my business, as well as have referred him to several friends and co-workers who now use his services as well. Eric is an exceptional tailor if you can live with the following: You're not in a rush You have high quality clothes that need more than "take out the cuffs off my pants" You're not looking for the least expensive solution to a basic tailoring need (which can probably be done competently by your dry cleaner btw...) You're not in a rush (really) That said, I've given him some tough work including: Major re tailoring of Brioni and Kiton suits and blazers, RLPL dual sided cashmere overcoats, replacing unusual "hardware" on clothing items, and some organ transplant surgery. In fact, I've had suits custom made by Balani that don't fit as well as the "off the rack" ones that Eric had to alter for me. I also have an "odd" body type where I need to buy size 46 suits for my upper body. The problem (for me) is that these tend to come with pants that are about 6-8 sizes too big for me (34/35 waist). That means a major re-cut to fit properly for both the "body" of the suit (taking arms off, relocating seams and pockets, etc.) as well as fixing the pant waist and seat. He probably hates me in secret. Nevertheless, I'm happy to pay for high quality work and he hasn't kicked me out of his store yet. Most of this is true. Anyway, I've worked with around 7 seven different tailors in the Chicagoland area. If you need a great tailor for an important clothing item, he's the guy for you. read more
